Thank you TripAdvisor, the whole trip was amazing, the SeaLink ferry transfer was great friendly staff, the ferry handled the sea with ease, little choppy at times but all good, the train ride on Rottnest was authentic rattling along the track, scenery was wonderful, travelled all the way up the mountain to Oliver Hill Guns, where we were met by a tour guide, who guided us through the cave, commentary was excellent, then onto the bus, the tour guide was Rennie, she was amazing very friendly, knowledgeable, who transported us around the Island, saw many Quokkas, just roaming around in their habitat, what amazing day.

What an amazing experience to Rottnest island with such an experienced guide. The stops were perfect in timing & gave us the opportunity to literally see everything on the island! Don’t miss out on this great trip!
Excellent tour and very informative. Learnt a lot about the island and history, would recommend for if you only had 1 day at the island.
We were pleased we did the The Grand Island tour. It included train, bus with guide, military tour and lunch. We saw a lot and still had time in the town to look around and see the quakas. Biking is tough there with the hills and the wind. Boat trip from Perth was great but you must find your own way home from the boat jetty. They only do Hotel Transfers to get you there.
We were lucky with the weather, even if was winter. Lovely island with a history and of course Quokkas. And nice trip with a boat. We saw whales.
In general, a good trip. I was unlucky in that it rained all day. :-( wasn’t able to take good pictures, but was able to see the island. Notes: there was no opening time listed for Barrack Street Jetty, so I arrived earlier that needed and none of the local cafes were open (they open an hour before departure). Swan River tour was OK, more about modern things than I wanted (I would leave from Freemantle if I did it again). Boat arrived a little late to Rottnest, so not as much time in the settlement as I hoped). Oliver Hill Railway was interesting as a rail fan, but windows fogging from the rain, so hard to see much. The battery tour was good, I expected more steps than there were, but it wasn’t bad. The bus tour around the island was nice, but gain, fogging windows obstructed views. The bus tour ran a little short because we didn’t take many stops at the various locations, so I did have more time in the settlement after all. Being early season it wasn’t crowded, but it also wasn’t ideal to hang out with the Quokkas. And there was a bit of Quokka poo everywhere! But hey, they’re wild animals, what do you expect! By then I was tired of the rain and took an earlier boat back to Fremantle to wait for my transfer there (instead of with the others tourists on Rottnest). As with the trip out, the boats were behind schedule. I would like to visit again in good weather, but living on the other side of the world makes it hard… One final note, not about the tour, but about TransPerth, there is a bus stop at the jetty - the Blue Cat is a free north/south bus route and both northbound and southbound buses stop at that location. There is no info at the stop to tell you which one goes north or south. I got a free tour of the southern end when I needed to go North! FYI, The Kings Park destination is southbound.
Good tour, rough seas getting there from Perth. Nice light lunch served. Very windy, so glad I had our tour bus instead of using the public transport system. Our guide had great information
Trevor was a great guide. Lots of good information and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Recommend
Great experience. The tour guide for the tunnels was awesome and learned a lot about the Australians in WWIi. Then a tour of Rottnest Island was another great experience and much knowledge gained the island was beautiful and the views awesome. Great tour and would recommend the tour.
Check in at Barrack jetty ticket booth was easy. However, when arrived at Rottnest Island there was no greeter and no instructions where to go. Had to ask information desk and went to train depot station and found no organizer. Walked to another information desk and was directed to bus stop and from there was directed back to train depot. This time, there’s someone with a clip board to check us in. Trip from there went well starting train ride to the Olliver hill and had a guided tour. Then, we boarded a private bus with driver/guide to take us around the island with stops. There were only about 12 of us total. It’s definitely a luxury to have a private bus instead of waiting at bus stops in the sun. Despite the disorganization in the beginning, I still prefer this Grand island tour over self guided bus tour.
This was a complete waste of time. The description advertised a "bus tour of the island with stops at key locations," but that was simply not the case. The bus stopped at just one location for 20 minutes, and that was it. We weren't even given time to visit the lighthouse, as we were told there wasn't enough time. The tour felt more like a two-hour bus ride with history lessons than a sightseeing experience. There was also no restroom or WiFi on board, as they advertised. Instead of simply pointing out the island's numerous bays from the bus, it would have been far more worthwhile to stop at at least one of them. Extremely disappointing and not at all what expected. .
We had to call to make sure that we were collected from our hotel, unfortunately we were not offered a ride home from the port. Not a big deal, but we prepared to get a taxi or Uber back to the hotel. The trip over to Rottnest on the boat was rough, multiple people vomiting, be prepared and take travel sickness meds before travel. Lots of Quokka's in the village when you arrive, great to see these very friendly marsupial's up close. The tour to the tunnels and the big gun was interesting and if you are a history buff you will enjoy it. The bus tour around the island was pleasant, although the bus driver although lovely was hard to hear in the middle of the bus and so that made it a little less enjoyable. The Boat ride back to Perth was a lot calmer than the outward bound trip. All in all, I would recommend taking this tour, just be sure to take the sea sickness tablets 30 mins before ;)
Enjoyable day on the island, the guide was friendly and knowledgeable, the oliver guns and tunnel tour was very interesting
Collected from our hitel and very relaxing cruise down the Swan river. Enjoyed the boat then a train and a bus. Excellent tour of the gun tunnels with a very entertaining guide and then the bus took us all over the island with another very knowledgeable guide. Photographed some very cute quokkas and then had time for a cocktail at the pub and some shopping before catching the ferry back to Perth. Had no idea of all the history associated with Rottnest!
The tour was absolutely amazing. The guide for the Gun and tunnels tours was very informative. Specially our bus guide Leah was absolutely amazing and made the tour very interesting and entertaining.
Guides all very pleasant and enthusiastic about their subject. If you are pressed for time, the grand tour is well worth it.
Complete tour very well done with enough time at each stop, nice light lunch, just a great adventure.
Bring your togs - there may be swim at a beautiful bay. Lots of bicycles on the island. This tour covers a large part of the island
A lovely day out. Highly recommend. Fabulous scenery
0830 depart from Barrack St Jetty. Lovely commentary from Sealink ferry pilot. Very tongue in cheek at times and fun. Arrived in Rottnest after about 90 mins. Smooth until into the open sea but worth it. Rottnest is a gem. Lost of bays etc to explore but we did this tour. Met host Fiona and caught the train to the Big Gun and tunnels. You do get long enough for a guided tour and the guides are excellent and so knowledgeable. Lunch provided (Chicken wrap) and then tour around the island. Passed/stopped many scenic points and bays. Occasional stop for photos or Quokkas although they do not really come out into the open until later. The event of the day was when our driver Fiona had a tyre blowout at Parakeet Bay. As replacement coach was sent for and arrived promptly. Poor Fiona came in for a bit of stick but she was trying to avoid abandoned bikes left by other island visitors. However this gave us a few more minutes at the bay and we were able to see a Stingray swim past. The ferry journey back was a bit choppy but all in all, a fantastic day. A final word for Fiona, thanks for being a great host and giving everyone a great day out.
Referred to menu others Rottnest is certainly a Global Tourist Gem!!! I wasn’t prepared for the very bumpy ferry ride so here’s my advice. If staying in Perth City take a train to Fremantle and take the ferry from there to Rottnest . Firstly the fair on the ferry will be far cheaper and the train journey to Fremantle is only $3.50. Rottnest is just unreal. They advertise bikes a come the island however this is hard work on bikes that are heavy and robust . #The hop-on hop-off bus is fantastic for $30 . Drivers are great guides with Stop 11 the highlight stop for sure . There are good food choices on the island and a full supermarket. If travelling with a group. I lived The Bakery who have a great selection and great coffee. Plenary of sun cream is advised however you cannot beat the scenery . It’s a a photographers dream . I will be back at some stage in my life. Loved it.
Great day out. The whole experience was an inner from the moment we got on the ferry in Perth. The island tour was long, but a lot of fun. we were both glad we did it.
A grand tour in every sense! A full day out. Very entertaining and knowledgeable guides. Lots of free time to spot the quokkas.
Lovely ferry ride from Perth to Rottnest, train ride fun, tour of gunnery good, stairs not a problem, bus tour extensive and we saw many quokas. stunning ocean views
Rottnest Island (or Wadjemup) is well worth seeing. The ferry left Perth at 8.30am and we got back at 6.00pm, so it's a full day. The journey between Perth and the island takes about 90 minutes. This tour includes a guided coach trip round the island - our guide was great and Rottnest is spectacular. There is time after the coach trip to grab some lunch and do a bit of exploring. The quokkas don't really come out until mid / late-afternoon but we saw loads of them from 2pm onwards. With hindsight, we wish we had just booked the ferry and then travelled round the island using the frequent hop-on / hop-off buses, as we would have had control over where we stopped and for how long.
We had an absolutely fantastic day on our Day tour! Nicky was an outstanding guide and driver—professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. Greg, our volunteer tour guide, was equally amazing, sharing great insights, stories, and enthusiasm that really brought the tour to life. Together they made the day memorable, well-organized, and fun. Highly recommend this tour and especially Nicky and Greg for an exceptional experience!
very experienced and fun tour guide, who was very proud of and loved the island. It was a beautiful place to visit and unwind. Excellent!
Worst experience as my trip was cancelled and viator didn't inform me. I had to leave early today to go to the Barack jetty to know that my trip was cancelled. I had to screw up my new year day because of bad customer service by viator
All in all a lovely day! I enjoyed my time on rottnest island a lot! All was well organised and i didnt felt too rushed. I just would.have loved more information from the departure point of the ferry. I just got told to get to the railway immediately after arriving there. I "wandered" around that area for 35 min until someone came. Also it was a lot of bus driving. But for that Island thats normal and the train was fun!
I enjoyed my whole day, travelling by SeaLink Ferry from Barrack Street Jetty, Perth, to Rottnest Island, and back. The seats were comfortable. There was plenty of time before the coach tour to enjoy food and drinks from the bakery. There were many quokkas in the area, very quiet and well used to people. I loved the train ride up to Oliver’s Hill. The tour through the battery was very interesting, and I found the stairs and ramps easy to manage. The drive around the Island seeing the beautiful beaches, and seals, was appreciated. There was more time to see things around the village before catching the ferry back to Perth. The only disappointment I had was the Museum closed at 3.30, so I didn’t get to visit it.
Delay with starting grand Island tour means everything else was in a hurry. Delay due to conflicting info on check in & resulting confused pax. Microphone in bus wasn't working well
Great day out with a very experienced guide called Kevin. It was a fun day and terrific to see so many Quokkas on the island. Oliver Hill gun battery guide Bronwyn was very informative and the history very interesting. The island is beautiful and pristine and well worth a visit.
The SeaLink Ferry trip from Perth along the Swan River to Fremantle was breathtaking. There were many sights on both sides with a descriptive commentary on the way. The bus tour around Rottnest Island which had several stops for photos, was equally as good. However, our seats were at the rear of the coach so what we could see was limited in relation to the guidance. Still, an enjoyable journey just the same. With souvenir shops, cafes, bar and bakery on the island there was plenty of opportunity to browse and/or relax between tours. The quokkas and birds certainly made their presence felt. In all, the whole day was well worth the cost. We would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who is visiting Perth and seeking a great day out.
The tour guides were great, knowledgeable, friendly, but the train was under maintenance, so was the direct ferry, it took 2-2.5 hours to get to and from the island from Perth, so 4-5 hrs on ferries. I would have liked a bit more time on the island to roam around. Itinerary could have been a bit clearer, that the bus tour follows on from the train tour.
Great day and great tour. The gun battery was very interesting and included a lovely lunch. Tip - sit on the off drivers side of the bus for best photo opportunity
Great day with Sealink and the Grand Island tour including a lovely lunch. The tour of the island was a quick taste of what the island has to offer. The tour of the gun battery was exceptional and very interesting. The Quokkas were very photogenic.
Good day out, lots of variety and informative guide( Nicki/Bob😂) Very natural and covered all aspects of our expectations.
We took the Sealing Ferry from Perth CBD to Rottnest Island and return. The first almost hour was a delightful cruise down the river from Perth to Fremantle. Unfortunately the trip became a little rough during the crossing which was out of the control of the SeaLink Staff. However they were attentive to a couple of passengers who became sea sick in the rough weather. We all arrived in more or less one piece and spent an enjoyable day on the Island. We had included the round island bus trip, which worked out well on a partly rainy day. There were plenty of quokka to see in the village. Thankfully the return trip was uneventful as the weather had improved and the wind dropped.
Be prepared, there is very little information about your day if you go on a tour, nobody meets you at the ferry wharf & there's almost no signage so you're constantly asking for directions from anybody. Queueing up for the ferry home was utter chaos. The tour itself was excellent though & well worthwhile.
Excellent day, however no info about where I should go once on the island! I had to get advice from the visitor centre, then received a SMS later....not very customer focused. It still worked out well and had a great day, seeing quite a bit of the island.
We had a very pleasant river cruise down the Swan River and over to the island. Snacks and drinks were available. We landed near a little settlement with a wonderful bakery and various shops. The best part were the Quokkas, cute little animals you won’t find anywhere else. We took a railroad to see an old WWII artillery station and then a bus tour of the island. Highly recommend
Viator bundles in this tour other operators. They do not communicate between themselves. So part of our tour was canceled with out our knowledge. No one told us how to join the bus tour. A local purely by luck told us where to go. The tour bus we were to be on was full. We were then told to get the next tour 2 hours later. Then there was the return again with the onus on us to get to the right place at the right time. Thank goodness the visitors centre was open and able to help us. All and all a stressful experience but worth the effort. Next time would not do it this way.
Very good experience, from start to end. The train tour by Kevin, the tunnels walk through by Megan as well the island bus tour by Robbo..it was a day well spent. and yes the unmissable quokkas! I would definitely recommend Viator for the Grand Island/Quokka tours, a must have
It was a well organised and informative tour. The tour took us around the whole Island. The bus was comfortable the lunch was good. From the time we arrived we saw quokkas, they were every where. A tour not to miss, magnificent scenery.
What an amazing day and a must do when in Perth!! The island is amazing and the all inclusive grand tour covers everything. Lunch was amazing and they ensure you get to see the quokkas in their natural environment away from the town. Ferry ride was great, staff amazing (including skipper Jordan) and it’s great to cruise the swan river.
Excellent once we found where we had to be. A tip for tourists would be to find the train station when u first get to the island and go there… we got lost with poor instructions from clueless staff. Great tour guides. Lovely lunch. Comfortable travel and interesting info. Would recommend .. make sure u take a travacalm before journey and on way home as ferry can be a bit sickly
One of the best places we have visited … would definitely suggest to have this in your itinerary and have a great time at this amazing place
Rottnest Island is absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous beaches, clear blue waters, and plenty of wildlife. A relaxing day trip which included the ferry to the island, this took 1.5 hours, we had some free time, then joined the grand island tour, which included the historic train ride (around 18 minutes) a tour of Oliver Hill gun fortification and tunnels, lunch was provided, then we enjoyed the included bus tour around the island, stopping at various locations, like Wadjemup Lighthouse and Henrietta rocks. We were fortunate to see several quokkas in the afternoon. Overall had a very enjoyable day out at Rottnest Island.
It was very laid back, interesting and informative. Train ride was good, gun installation interesting
Excellent all inclusive trip to Rottnest Island. Nicky was very informative and helpful with all info needed. Lovely easy lunch overlooking the water and even saw dolphins. The train ride up to the Oliver Hill gun battery and tunnel tours was enjoyable and Peter did a great tour of that. Very hot day, only downfall for the day.
