Once we figured the app out, it was a great guide. Liked how it automatically went to the next story as you drove past trigger points along the way.

Itinerary
Welcome to Valley Forge, where George Washington and his Continental Army faced one of their greatest ever challenges. When he arrived here in December of 1777 and hunkered down for a long, cold winter, Washington knew his army may not survive to see the spring. It stands today as a testament to the strength and resilience of the rebel forces. Note: The tour is over 10 miles long, with more than 30+ audio stories, and takes about 1-2 hours to complete.. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.
Next, you'll arrive at the site of the Muhlenberg Brigade, where you'll hear about "Devil Pete" Muhlenberg, a former reverend who set aside the good book to pick up a rifle during the revolution.
After that is the Maine Memorial, honoring the soldiers from Maine and emphasizing how tenuous the connections were between men from the different colonies during this time.
Then you'll arrive at the National Memorial Arch, perhaps Valley Forge's most notable monument. This impressive arch honors the entire continental army who wintered here, both those who survived and those who didn't.
The next monument, a statue of General Wayne, is dedicated to another of Washington's fiercest fighters. Wayne didn't earn the nickname "Mad Anthony" for nothing!
Next, you'll visit Henry Knox's quarters, where the self-taught artilleryman turned general served as an important voice of reason during the long winter months.
Continuing on, you'll come to the Delaware Memorial and learn about how the situation at Valley Forge began to unravel.
Next up, at the huts of George Washington's personal guards, you'll get a glimpse into a secret plot to take down the Commander in Chief.
Well, here he is - the man, the myth, the legend, George Washington himself. A veteran of the French and Indian War, Washington was appointed to the head of the Continental Army by the Continental Congress in 1775, due to his extensive military experience and the belief that having a Virginian in charge would unify the colonies more than a New Englander like John Hancock. As a commander, Washington is known more for his organizational skill and leadership qualities than his tactical abilities, which are considered decidedly average. He is known as a thoughtful and analytical leader, making him the perfect choice for a war against a powerful enemy like the British.
Your route takes you next to the New Jersey Brigade Memorial, which honors some of the most well-trained, dependable troops in the entire ragtag army.
As the months drag on, one thing has become very clear to General Washington. His army, tough as they are, are not even close to ready to fight this war. They’ve barely survived their first few months in Valley Forge, and everything is on the verge of falling apart. Something has to be done. Somehow, this ragtag group of surly volunteers has to be turned into a real army, or surviving this winter will mean nothing.
Next, you'll see the stone house used during that fateful winter by General James Mitchell Varnum, one of Washington's closest advisors. Varnum is best known for bringing the first Black soldiers into the Continental Army.
After that is a monument which honors those very soldiers: the Patriots of African Descent Monument. This memorial provides a fascinating window into an often overlooked slice of history.
An optional stop takes you to the Philander Chase Knox Estate, where the Attorney General who served under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt once lived.
Another detour takes you to the Valley Forge Train Station, which has all sorts of info not only on old-timey trains, but also on General Washington.
Fans of revolutionary history will want to detour to the Washington Memorial Chapel, which boasts a replica of Philadelphia's Liberty Bell!
Behind the Memorial Chapel you'll find the Washington Memorial Cemetery, where several important figures like Philander Knox have been laid to rest.
You can also visit the Mauricce Stevens House, built atop the site of another general's quarters used during the winter of 1777.
Those intrigued by abandoned places will find lots to like at the Port Kennedy Railroad Station, a defunct station that's been shuttered since the 1980s.

Nice tour of Valley Forge with my granddaughter. The self guided tour provided a nice background while teaching her photography.
App gives no solid direction as to how too download the tour. I followed the instructions but no luck. Stopping at the visitor center I had to spend an additional $8.95 to purchase their downloadable disc which worked perfectly. I’d recommend your app too no one!
Just do it. The entire thing. So cool! At the very least make it to Washington’s Headquarters. If the exhibit inside the train station is open, it’s even cooler.
We spent several hours doing this tour. Not just an auto tour. There are points you can get out and listen to facts as you walk short trails. Most definitely greatly enhanced our enjoyment of this site. A+++++
It was very intuitive and amazing how the digital age made this event very pleasing and wonderful to experience.
We used these self guided tours in the past and were very pleased. We could not get this tour to start up and the map was almost useless. Maybe we were using it wrong, but it was difficult to start and did not provide much value. What recordings we could hear provided great information but we missed hearing most of them.
The verbal information was good but directions were hard for us. It be nice if it used maps to navigate. We have trouble hearing and got lost a few times. Kind of disappointing.
Pointless boring most of the things were closed so you just had to take pictures, we took the driving tour and we had to keep getting out of the car and walking and that's not what we wanted
Sorry to say the app was a disappointment. When it worked it was great. It was difficult to use. So I would say not user friendly. When you’re trying to drive and dealing with an app, not a good combination
The Valley Forge audio download was super interesting and easy to listen to. It gave me a great feel for what happened there without being too heavy or boring. A fun way to learn about an important piece of history, especially if you’re in the area or just curious.
The map numbers for each stop do not correspond with the audio tour numbers. It would be more helpful if the numbers for each stop were the same on the map and the audio tour. The audio tour was helpful for a first time visitor.
Was disappointed that it would stop every time I wanted to take a picture. It may take 2 hours just driving and not getting out of the car for anything but otherwise will take longer. It was a great experience! Will use again elsewhere.
Unfortunately this was probably the worst self guided auto tour we have ever used. The audio would just stop with 4-5 seconds left at a stop. No stops were identified on the tour. The audio would start way before or after the thing identified on the screen . Minutes and minutes of dead air as you drove. Worst yet, we didn’t learn a thing. This was nothing more than a $16 drive through the woods to learn nothing. Don’t waste your money.
I did not use the ticket i paid for from TripAdvisor because activating it was the most complicated thing I have ever done. The options suggested just led to more and more hassle. Nothing I did, after repeated attempts worked. I finally just deleted it and went and bought another self guided tour map direct from the Valley Forge Visitor center. It was half the price and the easiest set up I could imagine. Would love to get my $15 back from TripAdvisor.
Wonderful, informative tour! Loved that we could tailor it to our needs and timeframe instead of being with a big group. Well worth the money!!
The most memorable part was to slide my hand down the same stair case rail as George Washington. The most memorable part was to slide my hand down the same stair case rail as George Washington. The most memorable part was to slide my hand down the same stair case rail as George Washington.
This was a great experience for me because I was short on time. I was able to listen to history of the sites while driving through.
Scammed by tour company. When I went to the Visitors Center I was told the tickets I bought were fake and they wouldn’t honor them! When I complained to Viator they said it was tour operator’s fault and immediately agreed to refund my money.
Visitor center had no idea of where to start or anything about Viator tours. Figured it out then Rangers blocked the one way road for the tour so only option was to drive out of Valley Forge.
This tour felt like you were driving/walking through an audiobook. Such a fun experience!! The scenery is excellent, the tour is full of information, and the sites are incredible reminders of Washington’s efforts to save the Revolution.
Great experience. Very informative stories along the way. Go at your own pace beautiful drive. Great way to experience the park.
We went with two tweens . Loved how it was able to track where we were in the car and while walking . Explanations were just enough to keep the kids attention . It was a very last minute idea to get the app and it worked out really well we didn’t have any problems getting connected and it was easy to use.
Excellent!! The information was so interesting and seeing Washington’s headquarters was the highlight of our drive! Amazing!!
It was a little confusing with the stories directing us and seeing the signs, then switching to the map but overall we enjoyed it.
The app worked great! It began in the Viator center and gave stop by stop explanation by tapping the stop.
The road on which you start the tour was closed so we were unable to start the tour at the first stop. Following the prompts from the App we ended up starting at 22,23 and 24 then jumped to 33 then to the end. We drove around trying to see if we could pick up additional stops to no avail. Trrrible
We absolutely loved this! We were traveling as a family with our 16 and 13 year olds. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Washington’s encampment at Valley Forge. It was such a beautiful day to experience what it would have been like all those years ago. I would give this 10 stars if I could. The video option was very easy to use and was under $10. If able, plan to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenery plus the history.
There were roads blocked for entry that changed the route. Interesting narrative added to our experience
Unfortunately I never received the email with download instructions and links for the audio tour purchased yesterday
Very informative and interesting tour, really explained what went on at Valley Forge. Our favorite part what was seeing Washington’s headquarters during his time at valley forge. Most of the building is original, and it was very nicely furnished along with your expectations of what might’ve been there.
I purchased a self guided tour for Valley Forge National Park on August 15, 2023 through my cell phone. When we arrived at Valley Forge the tour would not start on my cellphone. I tried a number of times but the Tour would not start. We figured we were scammed by the website and we just did a brief walking tour of the National Park and headed to our final destination of Brigantine, NJ. Thank you Robert Neely
Great, friendly and knowledgeable guides and very scenic route Watch your head for the overhanging branches and trees though!
We had a great time learning more about Valley Forge and all the soldiers endured. We learned things we never heard about in school.
Nice self paced tour with the right info pointing out various sites throughout the park. Really enjoyed this as I could pace myself at my speed and plans
I never received my information for the app to work. I inquired as for a code and never received it.
Great little tour. Great for kids. Not too overwhelming. Hit everything just right, good information in nice blocks.
This was an excellent information and directions. It really added to the experience in a positive way.
Great driving tour - easy to understand directions. Really enjoyed it. Only thing I would mention is there was a detour that made following the directions to the starting point difficult. If there was a better way of handling that it would have helped.
GPS worked great, learned a lot from the tour. Great stories, would recommend. Haven’t heard the park service audio tour so cannot compare the two.
The app worked perfectly. It was informative however I think it could have provided more details. Although there are down times in what you are seeing, there are so many facts that could be provided during the travel time that could fill the time. More information is never a bad thing. It was definitely worth having to keep you from experiencing the whole VFNP.
We enjoyed the tour. It was a nice way to see Valley Forge. Length of tour was right. It was easy to follow
George Washington’s house was a great experience to see how he lived under the circumstances. He really must have cared for his men and country.
Very good at telling the history of each stop in the park. Difficult to get it started at first to time correctly with each stop. Would have liked to have been advised as to what exact place I should start the tape so that it picked up GPS faster than it did. I had to double back to stop 2 after going to stop 3. Good value for the $10 invested. Very clear audio and I liked the GPS feature on my car screen when I connected to media output port.
It was interesting with just the right amount of information. A beautiful park. The tour was great because you can go at your own pace and see just what you want. Because the tour is gps enabled, dialogue starts when you approach a sight.
Informational part of the tour was very interesting and I learned more then I thought I would. Commentary, you do have to get in/out of the car and walk several times or you will not get the full experience of the tour. Definitely will pack sneakers. Definitely will do another tour of this type again. You get to move/stop at your own pace and that was a definite plus.
There ARE bikes for rent, which we did, and that's a great way to get around. The park's website was not updated when we were preparing to visit, so it was a pleasant surprise. Hilly, so not for very young kids, but one of mine walked his bike up a few short hills and didn't mind. Stopped for a photo with General Von Steuben's statue. We made it out to Washington's headquarters, which was our goal, then it's a great coast downhill back to the visitors' center. Visitors' center and film are very good.
We chose this digital application (self-driving tour) over the trolley tour at Valley Forge because it was near lunch time and we (two adults) were traveling with 4 kids (ages 7-10). We felt it gave us more flexibility than the trolley would have (to get snacks, stop for a bathroom break, etc.) Also, for a group of 6, it was significantly less expensive. The driving tour matches the map from the visitor's center and the application clearly marks each stop. It was easy to figure out which audio file to play at each location and which to play while traveling from one location to another. It offers suggestions about when to get out and visit a site and when to just drive through. The directions are well timed so I recommend starting each file as you leave the stop you just visited. The audio was very clear, not only about the history of valley forge, but about directions on where to physically be on the driving trail, including land marks and which way to turn. We found it very easy to use. As another review stated, the tour does take you on a state road for a bit, but we did not find that problematic. We did the tour on a Saturday afternoon in June. There was little traffic on the roads we used. Additionally, it did give us the flexibility we needed for our children, as well as offer us guidance on our trip through the trail. I would recommend this to others, in particular those traveling with younger kids.
Interesting tour but confusing to follow. No signs. No direction to keep you on track. Hard to drive and follow a map at tbe same time
Absolutely necessary to have this if you are Touring Valley Forge.. The audio tour was great told us where to go and gave us history as to what we were looking at I wouldn’t do the tour without it very informational
