Danny was an excellent tour guide! 10/10 would recommend
My law firm organized a tour with Beyond the Bell for pride month and we all absolutely loved it!! Danny was a phenomenal guide! The tour was super informative and fascinating. I will be bringing friends along in the future.
Danny was amazing! You could really tell he knew what he was talking about and kept our entire group engaged! Overall 10/10!
Danny was lovely, knowledgeable , engaging and far exceeded our expectations. Would definitely recommend to any!
Danny was phenomenal. Our group had an enriching experience.
My tour guide, Danny, was phenomenal. Danny is incredibly well spoken, gave extensive detail and stories. He has an incredible voice and is gorgeous. Highly highly recommend this tour.
This was a fantastic tour and one of the highlights of our time in Philadelphia. Martha was an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about LGBTQ history and the Gayborhood. She brought the stories of the community, the activism, and the people who shaped it to life in such a thoughtful and meaningful way. We learned so much about the history of the area and appreciated how Martha connected the past to the present. She created a welcoming atmosphere and made the experience both educational and enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in Philadelphia history or LGBTQ history—and if you get Martha as your guide, you’re in great hands! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Deeply researched, brilliant, and engaging tour of the history of drag culture in Philly. Loved hearing directly from queens & kings through oral history interviews that were thoughtfully included throughout. Rebecca is the best, and we all left with a much richer appreciation of how drag has shaped the city. Everyone should take this tour.
My 14 year old granddaughter who was visiting from Colorado, my daughter, her boyfriend, and I took the Philly Gayborhood and LGBTQ History Walking Tour. The three of us females had taken the Badass Women History Tour two years prior, and liked it so much that we knew we wanted to choose Beyond the Bell Tours again. Joey was our guide, and we couldn't have asked for a better person to show us different historical landmarks, relate the history of the gayborhood in Philly, and answer our questions. Even though three of us have lived in Philly for some years, we learned so much. I wish history had been taught in such an interesting way in school! We all really enjoyed this tour, and want to take more ones from Beyond the Bell Tours.
The tour was fantastic and highly inspiring! You get a great history of LGBTQ+ rights, some women's history, black history, and activism amongst all three marginalized groups. The walk is a nice stroll and not difficult at all to navigate. Would highly recommend to all!
This tour was phenomenal, I learned SO much and our tour guide was fantastic. I walked away wanting to go on the tour again to try and soak up as much of the history, stories, and facts as possible. This is a MUST activity for locals and tourists!
We had an absolutely wonderful time with Rebecca. She gave us the scoop on all the things that slay in the Gayborhood. This is a must for any traveler wishing to brush up on their gay knowledge. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
We had Rebecca, and she was one of the best tour guides that any of us, a group of ten, had seen. The tour was both educational and informational, but also interactive and fun. Loved Giovanni’s room, a great welcoming space for LGBTQ+ folks. And the murals across the ‘Gayborhood” were amazing to see, and Rebecca gave us a great history of the art.
We had a great experience and highly recommend this tour if you're in the neighborhood! We were able to start on time, walk at a nice pace and take plenty of pictures. Our tour guide was very informative, and she answered all of our questions. I'm glad to have had this opportunity to explore Gayborhood.
Did the tour with Joey today and had a wonderful time! Even as a Philadelphia native, I learned so much about the Gayborhood and LGBTQ+ history that has surrounded me my whole life. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Philadelphia for the first time or the lifelong local curious about those who paved the Queer way before us.
This tour was fantastic! Learned so much cool queer history and had a ton of fun along the way. Rebecca is such an engaging and knowledgeable guide and she really made sure it was an awesome experience! We’ll be back for more tours with her for sure!
We had a wonderful experience on our walking tour from this woman/LGBTQ owned biz. Our group was small and we had lots of time to ask questions of our knowledgeable & very funny guide - Beyond the Bell was a great way to learn more about the city’s impressive LGBTQ history in a fun and engaging way. Highly recommend!!
My partner and I took this tour to celebrate her birthday and we had so much fun - it ended up being just us and Joey so we got an excellent, very personalized tour!
This was such a wonderful tour and the highlight of our trip to Philadelphia. Joey was our guide and he was so gracious and accommodating before the tour even began. Throughout the tour itself, he provided so many fascinating insights and delivered the information in such an engaging, thoughtful, and humorous way. If you’re looking for a tour that goes beyond the familiar history and people one associates with Philadelphia, one that incorporates the lesser known yet no less important facts and historical figures of the city, this tour in exactly as advertised and you won’t be disappointed.
Our tour guide, Joey, was amazing and super knowledgeable regarding the 2SLGBTQIA+ history of Philadelphia!
Joey gave us a history tour and it was amazing. They were hilarious & insightful. Going to bring my friends to this ASAP!
Joey was hilarious and an amazing storyteller. Beyond the Bell’s tour content highlighted the neighborhood’s unique history. We really enjoyed our tour!
Amazing experience. Knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about the LGBTQ Community.
Rebecca, our guide, was able to speak thoughtfully and show us lots of wonderful spaces, including information I didn't know even after living in Philadelphia all my life.
Joey was accommodating, informative and entertaining. Our group came away with lots to talk about and think about. Thanks for a great tour!
Did a private tour of the gayborhood for a work event. Joey was a great tour guide! Very personable to talk to and great knowledge of the Gayborhood, LGBTQ+ history, and general Philly knowledge. Everyone had a great time and learned some new history. Will definitely be back to do another tour!
This was a wonderful tour of the Gayborhood. Joey was a super friendly, engaged, knowledgeable, and excited tour guide, and introduced us to so many important people and places in the past and present of 2SLGBTQIA+ Philly, including amazing local 2SLGBTQIA+ businesses to support. I highly recommend this tour, and will definitely go on another Beyond the Bell tour. Thanks Joey!
Great tour — we learned a lot, had interesting discussions, and made new friends. Would definitely recommend.
Joey was very knowledgeable about the Gayborhood, and it's history. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour! He adapted the tour to our interests.
I highly recommend this tour. I learned about lots of courageous folks and happenings in Philly. Joey provided lots of facts and made the tour interesting and fun. The murals were beautiful and we learned about the significance of buildings I would have just walked by.
The tour was so much fun and informative. It made us feel connected to the city and its history. It was clear that the tour was intentional in including women, trans people and people of color in their telling of the history. Very well done!
You will Learn so much! Totally worth your money & Time. Rebecca was an amazing tour guide. Our family had a wonderful time learning and touring Philly Gayborhood! My teen learned so much! If you are in the are do NOT skip this tour!!! I am so happy we did this tour!
I had the best time! I am a student in high school and I attended with my mom. It was so wonderful to get to discuss with Joey throughout the tour and ask questions as we went along. The whole tour was so engaging, it really flew by, and really opened my eyes to all that my history classes aren't teaching me...but should be!!
I joined Beyond the Bell’s Gayborhood tour and was so impressed by our tour guide Joey’s deep knowledge of Philly LGBTQ history. The tour covered a wide variety of historical figures and stories and offered really interesting reflections about social movements and historical evidence. The tour was welcoming and interactive. I’d recommend to anyone visiting Philly or who lives in Philly who wants to learn more about the diverse history of the city!!!
This tour was really informative and engaging. I really appreciate Rebecca as our tour guide, who explained things in great detail. This tour is highly recommended to those who are interested in gaining more insight into the LGBT history of Philly.
Joey was a great guide! He was very friendly and so very well informed - all my questions were answered! The start location was easy to find and easily accessible through public transportation, and the tour started right on time. Joey did a great job in keeping a good pace, and made sure everyone was present to hear what he was saying. I would definitely recommend the LGBTQ History tour to friends, family, and others! I can't wait to take more tours with this company!
I learned a lot. I felt comfortable enough to ask questions since I was the only one. Joey knows his stuff. The tour started right on time. I really enjoyed my time. Especially learning about Giovani’s Room bookstore.
Joey was an excellent guide. He was very personable and extremely knowledgable! Living in the suburbs, I've visited Philly and the Gayborhood many times, but I was surprised to learn just how significant Philadelphia was in LGBT history. It was a hot day, and Joey was very considerate of my comfort on the tour- staying in the shade when possible, stopping for water/bathroom breaks. I would highly recommend this tour! I'm looking forward to taking another tour with Beyond the Bell- especially the Badass Women of Philadelphia!
What a fantastic experience! I booked my tour just a couple hours before the starting time, and Joey was so gracious about doing it despite my being his only guidee that day. The starting location was easy to access via public transportation (I took the 7 bus) and he was right on time to get the tour going. He was so knowledgeable and personable, and I feel like I really got a sense of how LGBT history is intertwined with the larger history of Philadelphia-- it was worth every penny, and I would have been happy to spend another two hours picking his brain about the city's past. I'm just sad that I don't have time to do more tours with this company before my departure!
Joey and Rebecca are great guides, both personable and excited to mingle with everyone on the tour! I really appreciated the personal touches on the trolley tour and the community atmosphere of the tour itself. Got to learn about different parts of Philly history and experience the spaces themselves along the trolley route. A great date, especially perfect in time for Pride Month!
Rebecca and Joey are passionate about providing a diverse perspective of the city they obviously love! We've lived just outside of Philadelphia all our lives and had never heard the amazing history of the LGBTQ movement including the surprising meaning of an obscure and curious street sign in one of our favorite neighborhoods. An evening well spent!
I traveled to Philly on my own and was looking for ways to learn more about the city. The tour Joey took me on was fabulous - I learned so much about the pioneering LGBTQ history of the city, including some facts that impressed a friend of mine that knows the city much better than me. Joey is incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. I recommend this tour.
I learned a lot about not only LGBT movement but also civil rights protests in Philadelphia. Joey was very knowledgeable (almost human archive) and his explanation was easy to understand. Very special and exotic tour among thousands of common history tours. He was also considerate for the guests during all the time. I highly recommend this program.
This tour provided me with better knowledge of the LGBTQ history in Philadelphia. When I first moved to Philly, I had no idea how essential the city was in shaping rights for queer people. Excellent job once again, Joey!
