Philly Chef-led Italian Market Food Tour

Jacquie was an amazing guide. We started off sharing a cheesesteak from the top-ranked place in the city, then strolled through both the original Italian Market and then the newer section south of Washington. Ended at Isgro’s which is always a treat. We never felt hurried and her local knowledge and anecdotes made the area come alive. Highly recommend!

Our guide, Alma was wonderful (and related to almost everyone at the Market!). She was so organized and we loved all of the different stops. Our tastings were delicious. She knows the neighborhood well and we enjoyed her stories. It was a perfect Saturday outing!

Jacqui’s tour was terrific. We went to all of the important local shops while she gave us a deep dive into the history of the area. But the most important thing was how accommodating she was. We were about a half an hour late due to traffic and she made up the time and took care of us so that we didn’t miss anything on the tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know a little bit more about Philadelphia and the Italian food market area.

Great area to explore with so much history. Great to chef’s perspective on growing up in that area. Disappointed we had no pasta or pizza. Minimal food tastings- the Barbados was good, but if I am on an Italian market tour…I want ITALIAN food.

Fun, casual tour of the Italian Market with great stories/history along the way! Each spot we stopped was set up for us making the tour run smooth and efficiently.

Fun and informative. Lots of different spots visited, learned about the history of the area and enjoyed stop off for snack at a few spots. All the vendors were kind and accommodating and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Philly.

Our tour guide, Chef Jacquie was fantastic! The food along the tour was exactly the food you would want to try if it's your first time at the Italian Market. We left please and satisfied. We enjoy some purchases along the way and before heading home we circled back and bought a ton of fresh produce at half the cost of our local grocery store. Also grabbed some gelato too! Book the tour, you'll love it!

We went on 4 different tours this week with our teenage grandson who was visiting us from California. This one was the best and all 3 of us enjoyed it. The food was great and so was Jackie who kept everyone engaged throughout the tour.

This felt like it was a travel back in time to the 1940’s and 50’s with the street vendors and window display at the butcher shops. Definitely feel the “old neighborhood “ vibe. Jackie was great. Lots of energy and stories having lived in the neighborhood her whole life.

Alma was a wonderful tour guide. She grew up in the neighborhood and her family owns many of the businesses, so she knows everyone and knows the history of the market very well. Plus she is super personable. Note: The name of the tour seems to be "Chef-led tour" - ALma isn't a chef but I believe another tour guide is a chef.

Highly recommend this tour! We had a great time and learned so much. Chef Jacquie is a local celebrity :)- knew all the shop owners, and taught us so much about the history of the Italian Market. We tasted great food along the way and even bought some fun things to take home. This was such a unique and enjoyable experience, you won’t regret booking it!

The tour was wonderful! The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was made better by all the locals who would stop by to say hi, giving an authentic community feel. The food was too notch! A great mix of history, eating, and culture.

We lived in Philadelphia many years ago and this tour was very informative about the history of the market and best places to shop. Food tastings were awesome from cheese to cannolis with everything in between. Alma was great! I wish I had done this tour years ago on my return visits to the area!

We decided to take the Italian Market Tour with Chef Jaquie at the last minute. As locals we weren't sure what to expect, but Chef Jaquie represented our city and the Italian Market perfectly. It felt like a stroll out with family and friends, while eating some of the best food in the city. We learned a lot of history too. I definitely recommend taking the tour and enjoying everything the Italian Market has to offer.

Chef Jackie gave us one of the highlights of our time in Philadelphia. This was far more than a food tour. It felt like being welcomed into the living story of the Italian Market by someone who genuinely loves its people, history, and flavors. Every stop was thoughtfully chosen and absolutely delicious, from the incredible roast pork sandwich at Paesano’s to the unforgettable cannoli at Isgro Bakery. We especially appreciated how Jackie blended food, history, neighborhood culture, and personal relationships with the shop owners and makers along the way. You could tell this was not a scripted tourist experience. At one point on our tour, we were standing in front of a shop, and a guy came by and told us to go back to the suburbs. Chef Jackie has the perfect rejoinder that was so funny yet sweet! The pacing was perfect, giving us time not only to eat but also to wander, shop, ask questions, and really soak in the atmosphere. We left full, happy, and carrying far more treats and pantry finds than we expected. If you love food, local culture, and authentic experiences, this tour is absolutely worth it. Chef Jackie was warm, knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about Philadelphia’s culinary traditions. We would recommend this tour without hesitation.

Wonderful tour through the Italian Market. Alma was a wonderful guide, having grown up right there! We tasted great cheese at the Bruno brothers, balsamic vinegar and infused olive oil, hand pulled mozzarella balls at a deli, chips and guacamole, an amazing pork sandwich at Paesanos and delicious cannoli at Isgro’s. So much fun and great stories.

Chief Jackie’s tasting tour of Philadelphia’s Italian Market was fabulous. The tour was a great mixture of the area’s history as well as a great introduction to the market’s vendors. It was the highlight of my weekend visit to Philadelphia, and I strongly recommend the tour! Don’t eat beforehand - you will be stuffed with delicious food throughout!

This food tour was fantastic! We always try to find a good food tour when visiting a city for the first time, and this one with Chef Jacquie was one of the best ever! Not only did we have great food at every stop but we also learned so much about the history of the Italian Market area and Philadelphia's food history. Can't wait to go back to South Philly some day!

I have lived in this area for 56 years, and have never been to the Italian Market. It was wonderful. Our tour guide was the best, knew everything and everyone on the street, and introduced me to the best pork sandwich I have ever had. I will definitely be back to the Italian Market with my family!

What a wonderful experience! Chef Jacqui led us on a fun tour through the Italian Market where she grew up. In addition to the yummy bites (prepare for lots of food!!), it was so interesting to learn about the history of the area. Her personal connections to the chefs and storeowners throughout the block made for such memorable stories. In addition, Jacqui was lively, friendly, and so personable. You will have so much fun!

Jackie and Alma were excellent guides who were knowledgeable about the area. all of the stops on the tour were excellent and after the tour, we went and spent more time shopping. Sandwiches at Paesanos were 10 out of 10! will definitely be back to this area of Philly!

Many of the places that were part of the tour typically give out samples. The chef showed up late without any apologies. The tour was definitely not worth the cost.
