Today’s stories are brought to you by Mark Nesbitt, who is the first to create ghost walking tours in Gettysburg. Based on his own frightening experiences living in Gettysburg for over thirty years and the ghost stories told to him by the people who actually experienced them, these stories combine town history with the mystery of the spirit world.
The first day's fighting of the three-day battle was over, it had swirled across the farm fields to the west, north, and east of the Pennsylvania Crossroads town.
Welcome to a historic Gettysburg and the Ghosts of Gettysburg battlefield tour. Schmucker Hall, or old dorm, saw its share of horrors during and after the battle, it was appropriated for use as one of the first hospitals on July 1st.
No one knows for sure where the named Devil's Den came from. But regardless of where the name originated it was never more apropos than on the second deadly day of July in the year 1863.
Just as our logic is sometimes fooled by the unexplainable sights and sounds of decades past. Is it possible that whoever or whatever it is that creates these images could be fooled by our presence?
Her roommate traveled frequently in her job for the National Park Service and she was alone in the house watching television one night. The drone of the TV had gone on for a while when she was suddenly aware of another noise in the house beside the TV.
The Woman in White has sometimes been spotted here. Although she’s more frequently seen at Spangler’s Spring, far to the right of where we are now, you can hear about encounters with her by pausing and clicking on the Learn More button, below.
The fields to the right of your vehicle are part of the Eisenhower farm. President Dwight David Eisenhower, supreme commander of allied forces during the invasion of Europe in World War- 2, chose a battlefield upon which to retire in 1961 after his presidency.
The Codori house in Gettysburg stood virtually in the middle of the site of some of the worst carnage in American history. In about 40 minutes of marching over the lush fields and fighting across the now famous stonewall.

The link did not work though I tried to open it multiple times and followed the directions given. Very disappointed.
Terrible navigating. Why was an advertisement for another tour? Tasteless to say the least... wouldn't do again. Website very difficult 😕.
out of all of the audio tours that I have used in Gettysburg, this was the most lackluster and the most disappointing. With other audio tours, there is consistent audio conversation, but this truly had a lot of broken gaps with silence. Also, at times the markers did not meet up with the destination, and the directions were not appropriate for the first steps of starting the travel. I was deeply disappointed.
Enjoyed the audio tour in the car that we could do on our own schedule. Also being able to repeat it if we decided to while we were there or again this year. Great information. Although, no spirits were noticed, we had a great time
Once we got the hang of the tour we really enjoyed it. The stories are good and mixed with history. They paint a picture which is good in a paranormal tour. So often we read reviews for paranormal tours that say "More of a history tour than a ghost tour" but you need to know the what, where, who and why to understand the ghost stories. This has that good balance of the two. Here is our tip, even though the narrator Mark N says you can veer off trail and pick it back up easily. It was our experience that although it is easy to pause and restart it, was hard to leave the trail and pick it back up.
Hard to listen in the car, charge the phone, drive and navigate. Got lost easily, couldnt find some locations. Not the best.
The tour is more about history and gore. Stories were too long. The tour would be better suited after sunset, but the park closes 1 hour before sunset.
This is a great way to discover the battlefield on your own without time restraints. You can start anywhere you want you’d like and you can use it over again.
Not many ghost stories but not bad for the price. Nice change from walking the battlefield. Good activity for a rainy day.
Was easy to use and good experience. Took a little bit to catch up our location to where it started, but was able to figure it out. Stories were good
Definitely one of the best ghost tours we’ve done to date and we’ve done many. Our guide, Janet, has a unique approach from other tours - she bases all of her information in fact. Historical records. No fluff. No drama. No embellishment. She looks to debunk stories and retold tales, stripping away hearsay and worldly explanation first. She also helped us understand more about the show ‘Ghosts of Shepherdstown’ and how much of it is rooted in fact. Definitely watch it first if you can. We look forward to returning soon for a full moon tour and maybe even an All Hallows Eve tour - if we dare!
Needed something to do last minute with my nephew while my niece was at the college for a softball camp and this was great! It was too windy to walk around but this kept his attention and was very entertaining and not too long. Thanks so much!
I was very excited about this tour based on the reviews, but honestly it wasn’t very good. This really wasn’t much of a ghost tour, rather more of a history lesson with little bits of ghost stories sprinkled in. Normally I would have enjoyed that personally, but the party I was with wanted more haunted stories than history. When it comes to all the 30 something points where there’s audio input, we expected a lot more stories. It seemed like about 60%-70% of them were just directions. The actual tour with stories didn’t even start until around stop 13 or so. Also, how was Sachs’ Bridge not a part of this tour?! Considering how active the hauntings are supposed to be there, I was shocked it was not included! Lastly, the tour specifically says to drive 25 mph throughout the drive. Mainly because if you got to the next location too fast, it would cut off the last story and begin with the next one. So we assumed that there would be stories playing for the majority of the drive, being timed out appropriately for very little down time. We were very disappointed to find out that was not the case at all. So in conclusion, if you want a real ghost tour, look elsewhere. If you want a basic history lesson with some mild spookiness to it, then this could be up your alley.
First of all I want to say that we have been to Gettysburg MANY times. This audio tour was a ghosts of Gettysburg tour and we didn’t feel we got much of that. The main thing we didn’t like was that we felt that it was very difficult to get to the start of the tour because there were TWO different Gettysburg Heritage Centers. Of course we went to the wrong one at first. I don’t think I’d do this audio tour again. I think you could find much better info about ghost sightings, etc online or on YouTube.
Was easy to use. Had both historical and ghostly stories. Very cool! We were able to do part of the tour one day and then pick up where we left off at easily the next day.
Horrible. The map wouldn't stay up. Instructions were not very clear. Wasn't a great experience 😕😕😕😕
Ghost tour was great, it rained and our tour guide Jordan made the best out of the situation. We learned a lot and had a fun time. Would recommend to anyone looking for something to do in Gettysburg.
It was a good tour that was very informative. Sometimes it did get a little hooky but all in all well worth it.
Very easy to use and directions were simple to follow. It took a minute to figure out how it worked but after we got to the first location it started on its own. This tour was excellent because it combined the historical significance of the locations around Gettysburg, but also wove in stories of hauntings and creepy stories. This was a way to do the history tour without too much of the war and battle explanations, which aren’t everyone’s thing. I liked how it instructed you to park and then just stopped playing until you’re driving at a new location. We got to go the entire way at our own pace and explore when we wanted to. WAY better than a guided walking tour in the summer heat!!
What worked was nice. And we saw parts we hadn’t earlier. However, the download was confusing to use and the map didn’t really follow the numbers so we missed 1/2 of it maybe.
The driving directions need some major work. For example it would tell us to turn left from the parking lot and then nothing else. After experiencing these a few times we just deleted the app. A few stories and sites we actually made it to was interesting and informative
We had a hard time starting the tour. Once it started it was difficult to navigate correctly. Overall it was just ok.
The overall awe of the tour. Prior to this trip I have previously visited Gettysburg at least a dozen times. Never before had I utilized a tour guide per se. The trip was very informative and professionally put together. I am now going to explore the evening/night tours.
I knew nothing of the battlefield before this tour. I had NO IDEA it was so large! I live near Yorktown, Virginia and just always assumed going there would be like going to Yorktown. It was very different. The self-guided driving tour was a great intro for me and took us all over the battlefield. It has piqued my interest to learn more. There was history mixed with the ghost stories, which I absolutely loved. We only had one day to spend in Gettysburg and this was a nice, interesting way to please all members of the family.
My daughter loved this tour. The stories of the ghosts of Gettysburg were fascinating. The tour got a little jarbled when we got around Devils Den and our location wasn’t accurate, but otherwise, it was fun!
We purchased the tour online for our visit to Gettysburg. When we got started the highlighted map on the phone, via the app, would not display, via CarPlay, on my Jeeps screen. When we did get going there were a couple of places where a story was started and not told to pull over anywhere. When we stopped at R.E. Lees monument, listened to the story we were never told to resume. We did on our own. There were 2 places where getting back on track was a bit confusing, one was at the new dorms and the other was leaving devils den and turning at wheat field rd. The Battlefield closes at Sunset, not 10:00pm as your info says.
Narrator was okay. We had a hard time getting started with the directions given. We fell this tour should not be named Ghosts of the battlefield.
We didn’t see any ghosts, but the stories and tour was very interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of history and worth the money paid.
I got to see parts of the battlefield I hadn’t seen before, including Devil’s Den and I brought my gf her for her first time here in general. She really enjoyed it and like the area as a whole.
Not bad. Good information and the ghost stories were interesting. I got a little lost halfway thru, but circled around and was able to pickup where I got lost. I don't know if i would recommend it to someone traveling alone only because its hard to focus on what is being said and being able to look at the area or building you suppose to look at while driving.
The app guided us through the battlefields at our own pace!! Additionally, we were not on the same audio tour as others which allowed us to avoid many of the “crowds”. The side “ghost stories” were intertwined with the history which made it fun! Note that you need to download the app and tour first! We did so. Still took a minute to figure out that some of the stops were actually just “navigation instructions “. Overall great experience! Would definitely do this again for other tours!
very fun because we could go at our own pace when sometimes your groups can feel rushed. the other thing is once you buy it, you can go as many times as you like
It was actually good and I wasn't expecting that for the price. It was informative and accurate....but drive slow or it won't keep up with you.
This was an excellent tour. Enough scary stuff for our 20 yo & lots of history for us. It was easy to Follow. We got a late start on the first day so we continued the next & it was easy to pick up where we left off. We loved the “Learn more” button, too!
I was pleasantly surprised by this! Self guided? Comfort of my car? GHOST? Nesbit already is a well known author, and this was really cool. I recommend it as something different to the normal walking tours.
Easy to follow directions. Enjoyed the CDs and all of the stories that went along with it. Would definitely do again.
It was okay nothing to scream about the pauses in between I really didn't care for but overall it was okay but at the end of the day it's like one and done
We enjoyed the tour but it cut off at the detour. We accidentally got back onto the tour later to finish.
It took us a bit to figure out how to get the audio to work, but I followed the troubleshooting steps (included) and it really helped. Once we got it going, it was a great tool. Helped us to travel around the battlefield areas and see it all.
I really enjoyed the stories it told while it was guiding u along. Very informative. Seeing the battlefield and all the monuments was cool plus hearing the stories of the houses around the field was very cool. Seeing Eisenhower house was cool as well
Park is only open sunrise to sunset. Purchase details to not state open park hours. Audio says 10 pm
A ghost tour of Gettysburg should be a home run. However this was convoluted and seemed like a bad mix of a tour and ghost tour which are two different things. We had already toured the battlefield, and our family wanted to hear some ghost stories. Instead we got some watered down stories that were not scary at all mixed with a retread tour of the battlefield. We only made it thru half the tour and the entire family was begging to turn it off. Really disappointed with our purchase and would encourage you to think twice. With all the history, this should have been easy and fantastic.
We really enjoyed the spooky tales. It took us a bit to get on the correct driving path but once on it, it waseasy to follow. The background music was great. The speaker had a great voice. Part of the park was detoured (Little Rountop and Devils Den) but that wasn't their fault. We listened to those stories on the ride home. One con would be that the accompanying text had a lot of errors. A big plus, was I took a picture of the Robert E Lee on Traveler statue and there was a large aura around him against the blue sky! Very scary!
It was very difficult to identify my vehicle on the map. It was marked as a blue dot, but every event was also blue. The route was very hard to follow. We got off track many times. The stories were not all that interesting. We lost service and the entire app shut down many times. We finally gave up. Very disappointing. 😞
The directions were not the easiest to follow. At the starting location it just says straight...but doesn't tell you where straight is..we ended up winding through a residential area at the start..then got on track
We had fun taking the tour at night about 9pm, we actually got an orb in one of our pictures on the battlefield. The tour is filled with lots of information and the pictures are helpful to make sure you are at the right area, along with the gps.
Excellent tour! The tour guides knowledges was amazing and she made it so interesting. Both the tour guide and the bus driver were so nice and accommodating. I’d definitely recommend others to take their tours!
The content was great. The directions were so poor that we never actually saw the landmarks. It would tell us to turn left in a street that was only on our right and then weave us through modernized neighborhoods.
Very informative, and interesting. Can’t wait to go back and do it again (when Little round top and Devils Den aren’t closed).
