Highly recommend this tour! Before you book, you have to book their sister tour that is done earlier in the day with Roseanne! Our guide for this tour was Brad and he was amazing, and very enthusiastic. Brad is a retired college president and has written several books on the Civil War. I don’t believe there would be a better person to give this to tour. Brad welcomed questions and was patient. We will definitely do this tour again!!!!

Itinerary
It was a “no man’s land” during the Battle of Gettysburg. Civilians on lower Baltimore Street and Steinwehr Avenue were trapped in the crossfire between Union and Confederate troops. On this tour you will hear about the tragic death of Jennie Wade, how civilians survived the battle, the fighting between the two sides in the streets, the aftermath of the battle, presidential visits, and some of Gettysburg’s early history. This tour complements the 11:00 a.m. tour (Civilian Experience). This tour covers the Southern End of town; the Civilian Experience covers the Northern End.

Great intro to Gettysburg with actual stories of the war and the townspeople. Ted was a great guide and happy to entertain questions.
Terry, did a fantastic job educating and entertaining us. The tour is much different than what you get on the battlefield. I would highly recommend this tour.
Even though it was just my wife and I participating in the tour, this didn't seem to bother Terry. He did a great job at the details he highlighted for us. We learned even more about the people who lived there during the battle which really gave the entire war a new perspective.
Excellent very knowledgeable and patient with all our questions. Went well over the expected hour. Had so much to share about Gettysburg
Bill our guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable. Learned a lot. Would do it again. Good value.
Roseanne was a fantastic tour guide. Really knows her stuff and showed us some pretty neat stuff on our tour. Great tour.
Very informative. Learned how horrible the conditions were for the townspeople that decided to stay.
Roseanne captured our attention the entire tour with her riveting stories of life as a civilian during the Gettysburg battle. I would highly recommend this tour, along with the other tour at the other end of town. Both give you the complete story of how the town’s people navigated such a precarious time in our history.
Tour guide engaged our small group and was informative. Walking was not overwhelming in the heat as he looked for shaded areas.
Jim was so informative great story teller and knew all the details of the time! And was able to elaborate on so many other topics surrounding the Union and Confederate sides. Despite the rain that came down Jim didn't miss a beat and was more than happy to keep going!
Roseanne game my sons and I am incredible walking tour of civilians’ experiences during the battle. She was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. My sons (12 and 10) loved it. They were engaged the whole time, asking questions, and raved about it afterwards.
Terry was a great guide. A wealth of knowledge and kept a great flow between answering questions and staying on point.
Bill Hartman was PHENOMENAL! Kept us all in the shade and made sure we were safe the whole time during the hottest day of the season, made the guide fun, interactive and interesting. For a one hour trip you get your moneys worth and interest especially as a first timer to the town. Would come back and do it again!
Our guide was great would do this again and reamend this to anyone who is in Gettysburg. It was raining and he had umbrella's
Very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a good time. Much better than a ghost tour!
We had Terry Hall as our guide and he was excellent! We learned a lot more of the battle that happened in town and what happened to the folks living there. He had pictures to show us and it was quite interesting!
The guide was very knowledgeable of the town of Gettysburg. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.
Knowledgeable, welcoming, thorough.
Gettysburg certified tour guide John McT was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed tour....
Excellent information, pointing out things we wouldn't have otherwise seen or known on our own. Highly recommend.
Doug, our tour guide, was the BEST! Had a ton of stories of families of Gettysburg, was incredibly knowledgable about the battle, and was able to tailor to us having elementary school kids and keep it interesting for them!
Was great, very informative and excited to describe the area. Highly recommend!
Ted did an excellent job despite the extreme cold and wind. I loved hearing the stories of everyday folks trying their best to stay safe and their courageous efforts to assist. We were sorry the weather was so cold.
Entertaining, informative tour of Gettysburg. Our guide was Brad G. who engaged us with stories/ accounts and thought provoking questions about what to do in the given situation (hint: there are no wrong answers) that pull you into the situation. I highly recommend taking this tour after the Citizen Experience to cover more of Gettysburg and get accounts from both the townspeople and the soldiers who fought.
I've taken many walking tours and have enjoyed all of them. My tour with guide Bill Hartman was top tier. Bill thoughtfully uses buildings lining a very doable walk up and back along a few blocks on Baltimore Street, and an album of old photos of people and buildings, to give folks a feeling of the dynamic events that were affecting people who lived along those streets during the July 1-3 fighting. Bill conveys vignettes involving citizens interacting with soldiers and involving soldier combatants interacting with each other (not in a friendly way). One comes away with a feeling of what it must have felt like for citizens to have confronted the choice to stay to protect property or to go to protect life -- or to have some members of a family go and not others -- even the challenge of deciding where it might be safe to go, this farm or that one? One feels for a wife and mother who must chase a sharpshooter out of the house when he is trying to get up the stairs to and use a high floor for shooting, which would make the house a target. One can imagine what it must have been like for a family to watch a young woman in their home blown up as she was trying to make bread for some soldiers. Bill's stories are not sappy or melodramatic. They capture the energy and dynamism in what was happening and are not mere recitations of facts to be forgotten in a day or two. Those stories give about as good a sense of what was happening for those three sorry days of fighting in the midst of civilians and civil society as is possible in a tour of an hour or a little more. And then there was the unplanned stop in the sculpture studio of the last living sculptor of the monuments on the Gettysburg battlefield, who was working on a huge memorial to be placed up in New York. It was wonderful to talk with him about what he does. A wonderful something extra at the end of a wonderful tour.
Great tour that expands on the fighting leading up to the battle on the hill. Lots of insight into what happened to the people of Gettysburg and how they weathered the historic battle.
We enjoyed a detailed description of the events that took place on the streets of Gettysburg. Our tour guide brought attention to many details of signs of the war that we never noticed before. It was extremely interesting.
More excellence This was the afternoon tour we did as a follow-up to the civilian experience Brenda our guide. It was just us my sister myself and brenda. Brenda was very accommodating as I have some mobility issues. She took her time and asked me if I needed a break from time to time. The tour was a great learning experience, and Brenda did an excellent job. I highly recommend taking both the civilian experience and this tour back to back.
Our guide, Rosanne, was amazing. She was informative and entertaining. She is very knowledgeable about the history and the area.
We had a fantastic time... lots of interesting stories and the guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We would go on this tour again.
Very interactive and informative walk-through downtown area Presented the township perspective of the battle.
This Rating reflects Trip Advisor and your customer service. The Tour is great and very informative. Our Guide was amazing and the town of Gettysburg has alot to do and see. Steer clear of tripadvisor and book directly with the town tour guides. They can be reached at 717-253-5737 or GBLTG.com. Lots more choices of tours as well.
Our tour guide (Karen S) was very kind and professional. She provided a wealth of information to us while also offering suggestions for places along the tour area to visit. Karen smiled while speaking to us and to those walking by. She ensured the road was safe to pass and traffic had stopped or came to a stop before allowing us to cross. We left happy and informed!
The walking tour was so informative. I would recommend it to understand what the town endured during the battle.
Our tour guide Doug Brown was great! He was easy to talk with, very personable and talked with our son to answer questions. He made it fun to learn about history. He even gave him a real civil war bullet to keep!
Brenda was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the battle of Gettysburg - especially within the city. It was interesting to learn about how this battle in the Civil War affected the town, the nation and the war going forward. This tour was a slow walk with lots of stops for talking.
Fantastic tour; really brought the stories of the town to life. Such a wealth of knowledge and answered all questions so thoughtfully.
We took our tour of the south end of town with Terry. He did an excellent job! He told us the facts and stories of all that happened in that area. Several times on the tour he read quotes from the actual people he was referring to. We really appreciated all of the insights he had to share!
Brad was very knowledgeable. He brought umbrellas to keep us safe from the sun. Very kind and thoughtful. Allowed us ample time to ask questions. Great experience!! Thanks, Brad.
John was very informative and interesting. I’m very happy l did this and would recommend it to others
This was an informative hour plus tour of the south end of Gettysburg. Learned about the dangers for civilians hiding in their homes during the three day battle. Covered about 5-6 blocks hearing interesting stories from a local.
This was one of the best walking tours! We felt as if our guide, John McTague, was an expert in his field and he made the tour special for us. Take this tour!
A great tour by someone who lives close by and who understands what really happened. Karen was very informative.
The guide was a very nice older gentleman but he was not prepared to give a tour. We had to stand still as he shuffled through his paperwork to read from it what he was telling us about. Also shuffled through pictures to show us. He also stood very close to us and when he spoke to us he placed his face very close to ours which was uncomfortable. We were the only two on this tour as the weather was bad but we had decided to make the most of it but in hindsight we wished we had cancelled.
Our guide Karen was knowledgeable, pleasant and fun! She was prompt and did not rush us. The meeting place was very easy to locate and access.
We absolutely loved this tour. My husband and I brought our 3 dogs with us. Our tour guide was very informative and personable and made it a great experience.
Bill went over and beyond and took us to a couple of unscheduled stops including the famous sculptor G L Casteel what a great afternoon we had and so knowledgeable and enthusiastic
Our guide, Brenda, did an excellent job sharing the unique and interesting history of the different battle/dangerous events the town of Gettysburg experienced during the war. Even if you've visited Gettysburg before, it's well worth the time and money spent to do this tour. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it!!
This one-hour walking tour provided a personal and humanized experience for us. Our guide, Brenda, met us as planned. As she walked us around downtown historic Gettysburg, she brought history alive telling us stories about how town locals survived the intense 3-day battle and the long months following. We saw bullet holes and cannon balls still embedded in original buildings, an old Sycamore tree where Abraham Lincoln stood on his visit, and she graciously had answers for all our questions. I highly recommend this tour for all ages.
