Itinerary
A recently revitalized Visitor Center is the perfect introduction to this beautifully preserved national park. Here, a self-guided exhibit and a fascinating documentary will detail what transpired on those hallowed grounds in the winter of 1777-78, how Washington’s men persevered in the face of horrific obstacles and how Washington himself grew into the legendary leader he would be remembered for.
The Muhlenberg Brigade huts in Valley Forge hold historical significance as they served as winter quarters for General Peter Muhlenberg's brigade during the American Revolutionary War in 1777-1778. These huts, constructed by soldiers under harsh conditions, provided shelter for troops enduring the severe winter at Valley Forge. Today, visitors can explore reconstructed huts and gain insight into the challenges faced by the Continental Army during this pivotal period in American history.
This striking memorial stands to commemorate the sacrifices of Washington and his soldiers while encamped at Valley Forge.
Nestled in a picturesque corner of the park stands a handsome stone home that served as the headquarters of George Washington for much of the Valley Forge encampment. You will have a chance to walk around this beautifully restored building, and if open to the public that day, see the gorgeous interior of all three floors.
There are many unsung heroes of Valley Forge, but none had the immense impact like the Baron Frederich von Steuben. The man that Washington entrusted to reorganize and retrain his weary troops, von Steuben utilized the Grand Parade grounds to transform the Continental soldiers into a lethal fighting force. A statue of the man stands on a bluff overlooking the fields of the old Parade where, as many historians agree, the American army was born.
The Artillery Park in Valley Forge played a crucial role during the American Revolutionary War, serving as a key logistical and strategic hub for the Continental Army's artillery units. Located within the historic Valley Forge National Historical Park, it features reconstructed artillery pieces and exhibits showcasing the artillery's importance in the war effort. Visitors can explore the park to learn about the training, maintenance, and deployment of artillery units, gaining a deeper understanding of the military operations conducted at Valley Forge.
This active chapel is a Gothic Revival-style memorial dedicated to General George Washington.
The Schuylkill River flows through Valley Forge, adding natural beauty and historical significance to the area. During the American Revolutionary War, the river provided a crucial waterway for transportation and communication for both the Continental Army and the British forces.

Recommend this tour for those history buffs that are interested in traveling with a smaller group and seeing this well known site. Our group of ten was led by our tour guide, Dale, who was very informative and knowledgeable. WeVenture is the local company that handled the tour, which departed from a corner across the street from Reading Terminal Market. If you’re staying anywhere in the historic district of Philadelphia it’s easy to get there on foot. Really enjoyable tour.
This was an excellent tour with a great guide. He was so knowledgeable and friendly and made for a great tour.
This was a very informative tour of Vally Forge. Our guide, James, is very knowledgeable about Revolutionary history. October was a beautiful time to go!
Jason was great. His knowledge was awesome. I feel like I got a history lesson which is what I hoped for!!!
This was an amazing tour. Our guide had so much knowledge! I learned an amazing amount of history and it was worth every penny
James was a great guide / driver. He could answer any question.
Tom was excellent very knowledgeable in all areas in history and happily took time and diverted to show me the Conway brigade I was interested in 10/10. The group of the other 3 people in this small group interacted with me so well it made a super Sunday 🤩
We found our guide, Jason, to be a friendly & highly knowledgeable tour guide and driver. He was patient with all questions and accommodated the preferences of group members. It was a memorable tour of Valley Forge.
Incredibly informative tour. Despite the story the site is beautiful. Makes you realize how close we came to never being the USA. Jason was fantastic, provided great recommendations, and went above and beyond to make our day better.
Excellent tour given by Tom who is extremely knowledgeable and relatable making our Valley Forge tour interesting from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
This is a very informative tour of Valley Forge. There are a few stops and a few drive bys of the points of interest. Our tour guide, Tom, was extremely knowledgeable about Valley Forge and history in general.
We really enjoyed our tour w/ Tom, our guide. He is extremely knowledgeable, and we had a great time spending our morning and early afternoon together. There's good time to talk during the drive to/from Valley Forge, and we were able to get a good sense of the camp. Highly recommend!
As a retired history teacher, Marty is a fabulous guide. He narrated the tour skillfully with a lot of humor as well. We loved it. Highly recommend!!
Dale was an excellent tour guide! Easy pickup/drop off for the tour from Reading Terminal Market area. Highly recommend the tour- we learned so much about Valley Forge. We booked this tour w/ coordinating pass to Museum of American History- definitely a must see museum while you're visiting Philadelphia!
Our guide was very personable and informed. He knew the subject matter so well and conveyed it in such a way that we could actually picture what had happened 250 years ago!
Jason was a wonderful tour guide. My husband and I enjoyed the ride, the history lessons and the scenery. If you like history, this tour is for you!
Rick was an incredible guide. His knowledge about Valley Forge, Washington and the Revolutionary War was impressive. What set his apart from others is his ability to answer questions and communicate. The tour itself was informative with multiple stops along the way. The only downside is that Washington’s residence is being updated, so no access to seeing inside until sometime next May. My son and I really loved seeing inside the huts. The visitor center also has lots of pertinent information.
Had a great time with Rick! He was knowledge of the American revolution and explained it in a simple manner whilst being really friendly. The tour itself was efficient and had a great time at the park. Would highly recommend!
If Dale is your guide, you will be in great company. His attention to detail is spot on. His years of experience as a history professor makes all the difference!
Thorough, on time, flexible (we spent a little extra time at one stop to watch the musket demonstration!)) James was very knowledgeable and share information with humor and variety.
Comfortable ride on the designated road thru Valley Forge National Park. Opportunities to step out at certain points of interest.
Had a great time. Very informative.
I had never been to Valley Forge before so having a guided tour really made it a great experience. Dale Russell was very thoughtful and knowledgeable. It rained off and on a bit but Dale kept everything moving. Great experience!
The Valley Forge guided tour was great! It rained off and on a bit but tour guide Dale Russell really kept things moving. He was very knowledgeable about our trip and really connected to the people in the group. I would diffinately recommend this tour and tour guide. It was definitely worth it! - Charlotte
Our guide was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I've 6a history fan, but still learned many things about Valley Forge I had never known.
Thursday, June 11th my granddaughter and I had a tour with Brittni! There are no words...truly the BEST tour guide in all my years of traveling, through the US or Europe. Brittni, started the trip like we've known her all our lives, information, fun facts, info on what we're viewing out our windows at the time. There were two other groups with us, she brought us all together through her kind personality. The stops during the tour were perfectly planned, she listened and cared about photo ops & parts of Valley Forge that were important to each and everyone of us. We Venture is lucky to have such an intelligent, personable employee. Hope to be back for another of Brittni's tours. Thank you Brittni for making our time in Philadelphia perfection.
We thought about driving to Valley Forge, but glad we didn’t. Dale Russell was our guide. He was very helpful and informative. We learned several things that we wouldn’t had we driven. He even recommended some books that will help us learn more in the near future.
Interesting historic place, great visitors center with lots of options for souvenirs, and the place to go to set up different types of tours. They show a free, about 20 minute long video narrated by Laura Linney that's very informative.
Tom is such an excellent guide and I would give him 10 stars! We learned so much and the historical stories he told were fascinating. Highly recommend this tour.
Tom Is an excellent guide. Very worth it! Enjoyed it learned a lot! It was great very informative. Very organized!
Awesome tour, Jason was the best guide! Great info, personal attention, lots of enthusiasm. Had a great, informative tour. Minivan since there were only 4 of us. Couldn't be happier. Not much walking needed.
Completed Valley Forge tour with my family in May, 2026. This was a personal tour well worth the cost of admission. Dale was our guide and expertly navigated us through the National Park. He was very thoughtful and insightful with his commentary and direction of our tour. The park was in great shape with beautiful views and monuments. This can be said about all the museums and parks visited in the state during this trip.
You don't have to book to enjoy the parks but you you will a car .It's so much to see and enjoy and the history was outstanding to much for one day. Two or three days to take your time. One of the biggest city parks in the world. And the best places to visit in the city.
Dale Russell was a great guide who provided terrific physical and historical context. He allowed extra time and was highly considerate.
Dale Russell was a superb guide. His in depth knowledge and engaging personality made for a special experience. Highly recommend!
It was wonderful. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very helpful. The ride was very comfortable and pleasant. It was a complete experience
Dale was full of knowledge about the American Revolution and specifically the occurrences at Valley Forge…. he welcomed other peoples’ insights which generated some good discussions during the drive. He was also very flexible with his time, allowing a little longer stays at interesting stops.. He also had a way of making all passengers feel comfortable… By the end of the trip, we felt like we had known each other for years! Finally, he was very friendly and had a great sense of humor.
Dale was our guide again for our tour to Valley Forge. He was wonderful. 🩷 My husband is a history buff, so Dale and he were exchanging information about the history of Valley Forge and the American Revolutionary War. The van was comfortable and Dale a great driver. We lucked out as far as the weather and were able to see all the sites of interest. The tour is the best way to see Valley Forge as traffic can be congested. We highly recommend WeVenture to book tours in Philadelphia, Amish Country, and Valley Forge.
Whether a history buff or not, Valley Forge should not be missed. Seeing the grounds alone is worth the trip. Tom was a terrific guide! His depth of knowledge was beyond impressive. His passion is clear throughout and he strikes the right balance of serious and lighthearted.
Adam was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Amazing stories of the soldiers and the sacrifices they made for our freedom. We can never repay them enough.
My husband and I LOVED this tour with Brittni! We've taken enough tours in our time, and Brittni had a wealth of knowledge combined with an engaging style. Clearly a fellow history nerd! Valley Forge is a must see for anyone interested in the birth of our nation, and if we were to recommend any tour for that experience, it would be this one.
We had a wonderful tour of Valley Forge with Tom. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the site and the revolutionary war. In particular, he shared some interesting stories about Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, Lord Stirling, George Washington and others. I would highly recommend this tour.
Dale: Outstanding narrative, patient and cordial to all, covered more than I expected . The tour was definitely worth my time and met more than my expectations. I am thrilled that I took this tour with Dale. Thank you.
We had a wonderful tour of Valley Forge with Dale! He was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and brought the history of the area to life in a way that kept everyone interested from start to finish. You can tell he’s passionate about what he does, and he shared so many details we never would have learned on our own. It made the experience meaningful and memorable for our whole group. Highly recommend touring with Dale !
Dale was amazing! So knowledgeable and personable. Just a great trip. We came away with so much knowledge and more of an understanding of the experience at Valley Forge. So glad we went!
Even pace and a nice blend of being outdoors and sightseeing. Enjoyed putting early history in perspective and seeing some of the early beginnings of the nation.
This was a great tour of several historic sites located within a beautiful and scenic national park. James was a fantastic guide and made this trip incredibly informative and engaging. In addition to having a deep knowledge of American history and the Revolutionary War, James also brought his expertise as a Philadelphia native and gave us several great recommendations for places to visit during our time in the city. The tour included opportunities to walk around the Valley Forge museum and other notable sites around this large, national park.
Relaxed and informative. Ideal for those who are interested in the War of Independence. Good Visitor Centre too.
Rick was very informative with information on Valley Forge and the surrounding areas. A safe driver as well.
