Started well and enjoyed learning about the generations of Italian immigrant families that started in the south philly markets area (meat/cheese/food, produce, and bakery/pastries). We were able go inside a couple of the cheese/food market stores and were given the opportunity to try the cheesesteaks from rival families but we really were hoping to try the meatballs. Unfortunately, the restaurants/bars that were recommended for their meatballs were closed on Tuesday.

Departure Point

Itinerary
Columbus Square Park is a neighborhood gathering spot in the Passyunk neighborhood in South Philly. We'll meet up and gather the group, then visit a bakery, talk about the hidden history of the invention of the Philly cheesesteak, discuss Philly's culture of public art, and get to know a lesser-known part of South Philly.
Once home to industrial warehouses, Washington Avenue has become a dividing line for the city and is home to some of our favorite restaurants in the city. We'll visit a legendary Vietnamese bakery and a longstanding Mexican restaurant with some of the best tacos in the city.
One of the longest continually operating outdoor markets in the United States, where locals still do their shopping and lots of restaurants source ingredient. You'll hear stories of the businesses in this area, and visit a fourth generation Italian bakery, a new-school Jewish appetizing store, and have a little time to shop in the market. We'll end with a glass of wine from a limited-edition series of wine made support from one of the Italian Market's oldest businesses.

The food tastings were good. There was a lot of walking from one spot to another with only one tasting that allowed you to sit down.
We felt there was too much walking in the heat and sun. We wanted more food and less walking and talking. We did want an intro to south Philly so we didn’t mind the talking, We just could have used less of it. We dropped out after two hours and went home.
We had a fantastic tour of South Philly food scene with Jackie. She was so great on the history of the area along with each place we stopped at. We loved each stop and also given some free time around the Italian Market. Jackie was so knowlegable about the history of the immigrants moving into the area from Italy and the Eastern European countries. and also how they came to the United States to make a differnce for themselves and start these new business. So many fmily business that have veen around for many generatios. I highly reccomend this food tour, especially if you are new to Philadelphia. Thank you Jackie
Matea was a fantastic tour guide with great information. Never felt rushed during this tour. The stops we made all were outstanding
Jackie was our guide, and she was great! I had been on another South Phila. Food Tour, but this tour went to different places- we tasted Vietnamese food, Mexican food, Jewish specialties, wine, Mighty Bread, and even an Isgrow Canolli! Everything was delicious, and it was fun learning the history behind the Italian Market. I highly recommend it for a fun and delicious time!
Fantastic experience! Great guide, wonderful food, and a super overview of the melting pot of Philadelphia - highly recommend!
This was one of my favorite tours I’ve ever done. Tour guide was super educational but also made the group feel cohesive. The food was delicious and I love that they gave out an additional guide to Philly restaurant at the end. The price felt very fair! Group was small, which I also liked.
Excellent tour, food sampling, and tour guide! Great background history of Philadelphia and the Italian market to provide context for the foods. Nice small group of people. And the food sampling and restaurant choices were amazing. Our best food tour in the US and internationally, hands down! Thank you!
Fun and delicious tour! Jackie was a great guide, and I really enjoyed learning things about my own neighborhood. Highly recommend for visitors and Philly residents too.
There is A LOT of walking on this tour- we clocked over 3 miles. Worth the walking though! Great selections
Walking Tour. Jackie and Alessandra were engaging, knowledgeable and fun! Wear comfortable shoes! Layer accordingly to the temperature.
Fun but 3hrs of walking! Maybe have a few more times/places to sit. Food was good - loved the cannolis.
Great walk around south Philly. We appreciated it included the Italian Market and other areas. The food tasting was large and very unique.
This was a surprise gift and I was so delighted as I love experiences over things - cannot recommend this highly enough! Our tour guide, Danny, was fun, knowledgeable, funny and clearly loves food and the people who make the food scene happen in Philadelphia. We visited a local bakery and tasted delicious sourdough treats, made several stops in the Italian market which were NOT Italian, showing all the diversity the market has to offer!! And capped off the trip at Isgro's pastries, an IM institution and then a clink of the glass at The Bottle Shop. I've lived in Philly and have never been to half of these places. Really great, informative tour!
Maddy is an excellent tour guide, very knowledgable and interesting. The food was delicious, the tour was enjoyable and well paced. The places we stopped at were diverse and captured the tone of South Philly. I'm hoping to plan a private tour with family and friends in the near future with Maddy as our tour guide.
Jackie was fantastic! She delivered a fun and engaging experience, blending the rich history of the Italian Market with delicious food. Definitely make time for this tour!
Our guide was wonderful. She added person knowledge and stories with the history of the area. Also the bites were all great!
Great experience if you want to hear about the history of the city and understand the communities that live there. The food was a great representation of what makes Philly the city it is today.
I saw this tour on Good Day Philadelphia and thought it would be something fun to do with family. Though we are from Philly, Jackie, our tour guide, gave the history of the restaurants we visited and that made our tour so informative. Jackie was a great host and I would highly recommend this tour!
Our food tour with Maddy was fun, interactive, and delicious! Had just moved to Philly and it was a fun way to get to know the city!
Lots of delicious food and opportunities to make purchases. I love that the tour didn’t go to Reading Terminal Market- so it made the tour unique.
The tour was fantastic! Covered a variety of ethnic foods in a relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of food to sample. Our tour guide, Danny, was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Very highly recommend this tour!
Our guide Danny was excellent, personable, knowledgeable and you could tell, had a passion for food. Loved the tour, the places we stopped to eat were delicious. All around great tour - thank you.
Get in line for THIS TOUR! Taste craft food with a story. Learn the background from a journalist who has dug into the story behind the food you'll taste. The tour guide shines a light on the people, the history and the reason that the food you will taste is special. It is all authentically and lovingly created, as is the tour which highlights the places you may not notice on your own. Do. This. Tour!
Danny was fabulous and the best history teacher, tour guide and food afficionado! I was solo amongst the couples and had a ball! Do the tour you will not be disappointed!
Danny was a great tour guide for our family outing. We learned about the history of 6 different restaurants, and sampled foods from each of places. I really appreciated hearing about the Italian heritage found in the Italian Market neighborhood. We also have discovered many places to eat when we return to Philadelphia.
Had such a great time on my tour this weekend. Danny was a great guide who was friendly, fun and very informative. Lots of good history on the chefs/owners, food, neighborhoods and more. This would be a great tour to do when you have out of town visitors but I also really enjoyed it as a local. All of the food was delicious, not a single complaint about any of it. I now have new spots I need to go back to plus they give you a cheat sheet of all kinds of Philly favorites to try! Thanks for a great tour!
I cannot recommend this tour enough! I’ve been living in Philly for quite some time now, but this tour exposed a different side to Philadelphia I didn’t know existed. Maddy was such a wonderful guide and is incredibly knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the city as a whole. She weaves history, culture, taste, and a few jokes to create such a unique and fun way to see the city. Also, the food you try is FANTASTIC. Every bite is delicious. Whether you’re a local who has been here your whole life or visiting the city for the first time (or second or third), go on this tour! It’ll make you recognize Philadelphia as the beautiful and diverse city it has become!
Enjoyed my Tiny Table Tour led by Maddy. Appreciated the communication ahead of the scheduled tour acknowledging the challenging hot weather expected and allowing participants an opportunity to reschedule. The tours are kept to small groups - mine was just 5 guests and Maddy. Maddy is an excellent guide and has created a thoughtful tour that gives visitors a real feel for the diversity of the neighborhood while sharing interesting historical and anecdotal information. It's evident she has done lots of research and cultivated meaningful relationships with the vendors/restaurants we visited. Through this tour I was able to see a part of Philadelphia that's not necessarily on the tourist path and really get a feel for life in that part of the city. Would highly recommend!
Maddie was engaging and knowledgeable about the food and the neighborhood. The food was not quite what I expected, but there was a wide variety of flavors.
Great tour with a lot of cool history of the South Philadelphia food scene and the Italian Market. All food pairings were unique and good. Highly recommend if you have been to the Italian Market before. Guide was extremely knowledable.
Delicious, diverse, and informative. We enjoyed ourselves even in the rain! Would recommend to visitors and locals too.
Such a great tour! We had a wonderful time and learned so much about the South Philly food scene (and some history too!) Highly recommend to both tourists and Philly natives.
Maddy is an excellent and engaging guide. Her knowledge of the area and recommendations for local eating establishments make this intimate tour a must do.
Ate a lot, learned a lot! Good variety, excellent choice of food culture. A little history, a little gossip, a little future plans. A spectacular experience.
This food tour was fantastic! Maddie, our guide, was so knowledgeable about the food history, culture, and neighborhoods of South Philadelphia. Her stops and food selections were well-planned and thoughtful and gave us a comprehensive sense of the gastronomic personality of the city. Highly recommend!
Maddie has the perfect blend of food and historical knowledge of Philly's food scene and how the neighborhoods in S. Philly evolved. Our family had a great day with her on a private tour and were surprised by each stop - some we had heard of and some we had not. There was a nice range of ethnicities in the mix and despite the cold December day, it was a nice walk around one of Philly's most iconic areas. She is a delightful tour guide and we highly recommend the Tiny Tables tour whether you're a visitor or a native!
Maddy is fantastic. She is warm, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. Whether you are a local or a tourist, you will learn something new about the Italian Market and surrounding area. The food portions were generous and delicious and the tour finished with a glass of wine (or non-alcoholic option) at the DiBruno Bottle Store. I would highly recommend this tour and will be bringing my future visitors!. Thank you for a wonderful experience, Maddy!
The tour was fun, educational, thoughtful, and most importantly, delicious. It showcases the amazing diversity and history of South Philly and its food scene in an extremely fun and approachable way. 10 out of 10, sign up immediately!
The food was delicious, and the tour was quite informative. Can't wait to revisit a few of the stops!
Excellent food tour! Maddy was friendly, passionate and knowledgeable. Everything we ate was beyond delicious. Highly recommend Tiny Table Tours!
Maddy is SUPERB! I live in Philadelphia. The tour of the Italian Market is fantastic for residents of Philly and visitors who aren't knowledge about the food scene here. I recommend this tour HIGHLY!!
I've taken food tours in many cities during my global travels. Maddy's was the best one, hands down. As a journalist, she brings a depth of knowledge, storytelling, and insight to the food experiences that just made the whole experience feel culturally rich and valuable beyond the great things we ate. That said, the food was also great, and the choice of places we stopped illustrated to wide range of cuisine that defines Philly's food scene. In short, it was a great experience. Highly recommend.
Guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and organized. Fantastic places to visit, great pace, super variety. Not your typical "stop at the tourist traps" kind of your--she was on a first name basis with all the local purveyors. Highly recommend d!
This tour was amazing. Great food and Maddy is very knowledgeable. Seamless experience and well worth the cost. I’d definitely do it again and take friends and family on it. Highly recommend!
Nothing but an excellent review on Maddys tour. Being a "foodie"myself, I was most impressed with the creativity Maddy displayed in her selection of stops. Her wide variety of different ethnic restaurants in the Italian market area of Philadelphia was fabulous. I have been in enlightened with places I would never think of trying before, but now will. Thank you Maddy!
Maddy was a delight! Food was delicious and I loved getting so much additional context on the history of all of the rich food culture that South Philly has to offer. The smoked fish was my fave :) thanks Maddy for such a good experience!
Although we have spent a great deal of time in Philly, Maddy showed us some new spots that we will surely return to. From the start we learned about some historical notes we had never been aware of and the first stop was for a sweet treat! I’ve been on several foods tours in the past and none offered quite the same experience as this one. Lots of food, insider foodie info, restaurant history and opportunities to shop topped off with wine at the end made for a perfect combination to celebrate my mom’s BD with her. If you’re new to the area or even a local, you can’t go wrong with checking out this tour.
I live in Philly, but was excited to learn about another side of the Philly food scene. Maddy is super knowledgable about the restaurants and the people who run them. What was most exciting & memorable was the neighborhood history, geography, and community context she shared. The tour was super well executed. I’m sure some things didn’t go quite as she had planned during the day but she didn’t miss a beat and made sure we didn’t notice at all. Definitely recommend and excited to see what else she spins up.
