Dorian was so helpful and personable during our stay. At check in the children were allowed to choose a toy from a bin - they carried those turtles everywhere we went in Philly. The rooms were well maintained and while we didn’t dine on site the bar treated us well. Promissory Note will be remembered fondly. We walked everywhere from the hotel and enjoyed the flow and history of the city. Thank you for another memorable stay. My only suggestion would be to sell stamps at the front desk. This was available during our last stay and made sending postcards through the ornate mail Dropbox such a great experience for our family. We’ll be back!

The Notary is absolutely gorgeous, and the location is fantastic. I had a room overlooking City Hall and the view was stunning. The room itself was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was great, and everything about the room was wonderful. I also ordered room service and had one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. My biggest issue was the late-night service. I got sick during my stay and called the front desk around 1 a.m. asking if they had NyQuil. They put me on hold and forgot about me, so after about five minutes I had to hang up and call back. The employee apologized for forgetting about me, checked their on-site store, and confirmed they had NyQuil, but told me I had to come downstairs to purchase it myself. When I came down, there was no one else in the lobby — just the two employees working the front desk. It was frustrating that they couldn’t bring it up to my room when I was sick, especially since the medicine was already on-site and they clearly weren’t busy. I also had a long wait for my car from valet on checkout morning. It took roughly 45 minutes before my car was brought around. It made me a little late getting out, so definitely plan ahead if you’re using valet. Overall, I really enjoyed the hotel and would stay here again. The property, room, location, and views were all excellent, but the service issues kept this from being a 5-star stay.
Our stay was extremely disappointing because the hotel failed to honor its guaranteed 4:00 p.m. check-in and handled the situation very poorly. When we arrived a little after 3:00 p.m., I simply asked whether our room happened to be ready. Instead, I was told the previous guest was still in the suite, would “probably” check out around 4:00 p.m., and that it would take another hour to prepare the room. I was also told they couldn’t ask the guest to leave because they had a higher Marriott status. We had traveled to Philadelphia with our infant to visit family, so we specifically needed access to the room at the guaranteed check-in time. We ended up accepting a smaller room just so our son would have a place to nap before dinner. What frustrated me most wasn’t just the situation—it was how it was handled. The manager and staff were rude, dismissive, and made us feel like we were at fault for expecting the room we had paid for to be available at the published check-in time. There was no real apology or accountability. We were never even offered the original room later that evening and we learned the guests in it didn’t even check out until the next morning. I understand that delays can happen, but a guest’s Marriott status should not come at the expense of another guest’s guaranteed reservation. Based on this experience, I would not stay here again.
We had such a wonderful stay at The Notary Hotel! The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, with modern details and gorgeous decor throughout. Our room was spacious, which was perfect because we had a lot of stuff with us, and it was cleaned beautifully every day. The staff really made our stay even better. Tokyo at the front desk was absolutely wonderful! After a super long day, being greeted by her huge smile and sweet, upbeat personality was exactly what we needed. She was so friendly and genuinely welcoming. Mary at the bar was also fantastic! Great service, super friendly, and made us feel right at home. Beautiful hotel, amazing staff, spacious and spotless rooms, and a great overall experience. We will absolutely stay here again the next time we’re in Philadelphia!
I am extremely disappointed with my experience at The Notary Hotel in Philadelphia. When I booked my reservation, I paid a prepaid, non-refundable rate. Shortly afterward, I noticed that the exact same room was available for more than $400 less than what I had paid. I contacted the hotel and politely asked if they would honor the lower rate or provide some type of adjustment. The response I received was essentially, "Too bad, you agreed to the terms and conditions." While I understand the technical policy, great hospitality is about taking care of your guests, especially when there is such a significant price difference and the request is made in good faith. Refusing to offer any accommodation over a $400 discrepancy feels shortsighted and customer-unfriendly. What makes this even more disappointing is that the hotel's own slogan is: "Hospitality perfected, sealed with brotherly love." Unfortunately, my experience was the exact opposite. There was no flexibility, no goodwill, and certainly no sense of "brotherly love." Instead, I was met with a rigid corporate response that prioritized policy over customer satisfaction. For a hotel that positions itself as a premium Autograph Collection property, I expected a much higher level of service and a genuine effort to do what was right for the guest. Based on this experience, I would never nook here again, or at any Marriott Property, and would encourage other travelers to carefully consider many of their other better competitors that take care of their customers.
