This hotel is absolutely gorgeous, but blink and you might miss it! Set along a busy street in Shadyside, this hidden gem awaits. If this hotel was in the city, or in the water, you wouldn’t be able to book it. Plus, the boxed breakfast was actually amazing. I will say, the gym does exist but is a dungeon. Note there was no microwave in my room and there’s a bar but no food. I’d definitely stay here again. Details, details, details- loved all the stained glass and old world design touches re: iron doors and finials.

I hesitate to post this review since I almost want this to remain a secret, but we recently attended their Oaktoberfest event, and it was AWESOME. The food was super delicious (the apple cobbler was too tasty!), we had maybe too many beers as it was all-you-can-drink oktoberfest beers (great selection of 4 kinds), we watched football games on in the main bar, the music was amazing (fantastic band!), everyone was very friendly, the hotel itself is really pretty + great ambiance, ... i could go on and on. I didn't know what to expect since I only happened across this event since i was specifically checking out their website, but we were very pleasantly surprised at what a great event it was. i'll be sure to subscribe to be informed of future events at The Mansions on Fifth as well. We will also plan to do a staycation here sometime too!
I was very disappointed with my stay here; the hotel was quite beautiful and historical with a nice window view but this far from made up for its flaws, especially considering I paid over 300$ for one night here. Firstly, the place has absolutely barely any amenities and the only breakfast option is a 15$ croissant with some fruit. The TV in the room was a smart TV but access to apps like Netflix ect were blocked and only a few television channels were even available. There were no features for babies or toddlers, even the trash cans in the room had no lids and were the smallest I’d ever seen. There was no free water, no microwaves in the room and although the room I booked was listed as having ‘shower over bath’ there was no bathtub just a shower (which I’d specifically looked forward to having a bath). The staff were the kind of people who see you struggling with luggage at the door and do absolutely nothing. They also saw my husband struggling with our large suitcase downstairs (the elevator is way too small) and did not bat an eye whatsoever. I feel like the historical beauty could be balanced somewhat with actual modern features to provide a more 300 dollar a night experience. The staff also need to learn some kind of etiquette.
We thought it would be interesting to stay in a mansion rather than a regular hotel. This is a beautiful building. Our room was the only one available, the presidental suite. The room was spacious. Unfortunately there is no restaurant so dining is out of the question. Breakfast is offered as a box breakfast for $15. It is really quite Motel 8 like. As for the staff, they lacked the caring and quality that an inn of this potential should offer. Service is not part of the vocabulary.
For sure the place is very historic architectural was very nice, lots of antique pictures all very nice….. except two things that I did not like. Breakfast was none satisfactory, everything is on croissant like sausage, egg, and cheese felt like all was done on a microwave but not only was not satisfactory for $15.00 the lady server didn’t seem very happy to be there and the order was all wrong. I was there for my son’s wedding, so apparently at the bar they don’t carry Corona beer luckily I had one left that I brought down to the party….so this lady at the bar notice I had it, so she immediately came to me from across the room at the party and with a strong voice said “you cant have that in here” and ran to this other guy that was across from my table and he came to me and said “ sir you can’t have that in here” and took it from me. Myself im thinking, people pay big money to do a wedding at least have a little bit more professionalism when you are talking to customers. I feel that, that should’ve been handled in a way better manner and professional.
