Itinerary
Our first tasting stop takes us to one of Parma’s oldest salumerie, where you’ll sample a carefully selected assortment of the region’s most iconic cured meats. From Prosciutto di Parma to other traditional salumi, each bite tells the story of local craftsmanship and time-honored techniques, all perfectly paired with a refreshing local wine.
As we continue walking, we head toward one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Palazzo della Pilotta, a vast historic complex that reflects Parma’s past as an important ducal capital. Along the way, we stop at an authentic cheese shop to taste the king of Italian cheeses: Parmigiano Reggiano. Here, you’ll learn what makes this product so unique while sampling different aged varieties.
Next, we visit a local bakery to taste one of the region’s most beloved savory specialties. At Panetteria Anna, we enjoy a delicious strip of erbazzone, a traditional baked pastry filled with greens, cheese, and herbs that represents the everyday comfort food of Emilia-Romagna.
Strolling through Piazza Garibaldi, the main square of the city and the heart of public life, we stop at one of Parma’s most traditional salumeria-restaurants. Here, you’ll enjoy a tasting of freshly handmade pasta, a true symbol of local cuisine, prepared according to time-honored recipes passed down through generations.
End with a classic local sweet from a historic shop, a proud expression of Parma’s home-style dessert tradition.

Andrea was a most knowledgeable and amiable guide. We enjoyed his whole tour. He made sure to make sure to make us comfortable and give us a great tour.
This was a very relaxed tour during which we enjoyed a range of local foods and wine as well as being shown around the old city with an interesting commentary. Sam, our guide, was very friendly and approachable with a detailed knowledge of the food and history of Parma.

Andrea was a wonderful guide. He had so much knowledge, very personable and engaging. He had chosen the best spots. Great variety in places and felt very authentic. Highly recommend this tour!
We had a wonderful food tour with Sam! She was incredibly friendly and a very knowledgeable local guide. Every stop was fantastic, and we loved getting to taste some of the best food Parma has to offer. The surprise stop was such a fun touch! We also really appreciated Sam’s recommendations for places to eat in Bologna, where we were staying next. It was so special to have a true local show us around, share the history of Parma, and introduce us to the food and culture of the city. Highly recommend this tour!
In summary, a superb experience for a Parma food tour taking in the sights of the city, the history, and the gastronomy. Sam was excellent giving her full local knowledge and her obvious personal experience. The length of the tour, at just over 3 hours, was spot on.
We never regret starting a visit to a new city with a food tour, and there's no better example than The Secret Food Tours guided Parma tour. We had a perfectly-sized group of 8, and our guide, Sam, led us to several places with plenty of delicious tastings while she provided insights into the history of the area and its specialty foods and drinks. Sam was also happy to provide suggestions to all of us for the rest of our stays. Definitely treat yourself to this!
Very informative about Parma and its food culture. It was a fun, entertaining experience. It was helpful with the guide translating the food options.
Andrea was an amazing, knowledgeable, friendly guide. Very easy to talk to and answered all our many questions. Would highly recommend this tour.
Andrea was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and we love the food on the tour. He was very social and easy to talk to.
Great tour. Nice walk and delicious food with some history. Andrea was amazing!
They had a surprise stop to eat horse meat tartare. If this had been mentioned on the website as one of the stops I would absolutely NOT have booked this tour. The tour was okay, not great, but that was a real buzz kill! I don't care if they think that's a real treat in Parma, it's not the kind of "surprise" that will get me to recommend you to my fa and friends, sorry.
We booked our tour online. First - very easy to book, and any inquiries were answered promptly, very precise instructions and links for additional help. Our guide Samantha was exceptional. Samantha was pleasant, bilingual and most of all very knowledgeable of Parma & surrounding areas. The pace of tour was awesome, a real taste of the culture, I even endeavoured in the secret dish, which I will leave for you when you book! One piece of advice - comfy shoes, check the weather and dress appropriately( personally I love the heat) and most of all come with an appetite - guarantee you will not be disappointed. Yes there is much more to explore, but this is a great intro ! Once again, a great thanks to Samantha & for the pics she took for us E.Zahra , Aug.07/26
What a wonderful time we had! Delicious food, wonderful commentary, and local information. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent tour with Andrea! 10/10
Samantha was an amazing guide. She was very knowledgeable, thorough and had a great sense of humor. It seemed that she personalized our tour after learning about us. It was a fantastic day.
Sam grew up in the area so she knows the area well. Took us to places to sample the foods of the region and they were delicious. She has a surprise treat that won’t be found on other tours and I won’t ruin it for you.
Great host with good stops along the tour
It was a really nice experience with Samantha. We were a smalltalk group of four. Great tasting spots and helpful Info about the City, history of the dishes and some Restaurants for the evening.
Andrea was a great guide! We loved learning about the history of Parma, and all the different foods we were able to try. The length of the tour was perfect, as it allowed us to still enjoy our afternoon. Highly recommend this tour!
Our tour with Andrea was lovely. He was knowledgeable, friendly, answered all of our questions, and hand selected fantastic local shops. Would highly recommend!
Nice guide, enjoyed the tastings, like that I wasn’t stuffed at the end like many food tours. Some walking of course, but not too much.

Amazing 4hr food tour- 8 different stops to sample the variety of Parma cuisine
This was an excellent tour and our guide Sam was extremely engaging and knowledgeable about Parma. We tasted many local delicacies and wine and also learned so much about the city along the way. She also made some suggestions for great places to eat in the evening and museums to visit. Would definitely recommend if you love food and culture.?
My wife and I visited Parma for the first time and did a guided food tour with Sam through Viator. I would rate our tour a 10! There are SO MANY places you could eat at, but having a local expert take you to the best places was very helpful. Plus we also learned a lot about the history of Parma! Do this on day 1 of your visit and then you’ll have great info to use on other days. Thank you Sam and Viator!
Andrea was a fabulous tour guide, blending the cultural and culinary history of Parma into an engaging and delicious tour.
Andrea is an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. Would recommend this to anyone visiting Parma or the local area.
The guide was great. The food was good and the experience fun.
Andrea was a warm, experienced guide who was very knowledgeable about food in Parma. He took us to 6 stops and we sampled several types of Parma Ham and cheeses, along with other regional specialties. The secret ingredient was a huge surprise, but delicious. My husband doesnt normally like tours but loved this one.
The tour is very beautiful and interesting. Samantha is excellent and very passionate, it was a pleasure to take the tour with her.
Great tour, Samantha has been a very knowleadgeable and enjoyable guide.
Me and my friend had a great time during our Secret Food Tour in Parma. Samantha was really passionate and engaging with us. the food selection was over the expectations and the locations were accurately chosen. I strongly recommend this tour.
It was a great tour with a truly magnificent guide. A great deal of information about the local food and products. We learned a lot and it was a lot of fun.
Sometimes you're unlucky. The first and perhaps the only day of our holiday where you could not get out without an umbrella. But the temperature was pleasant. The guide got a nice walk through the super cozy downtown and occasionally walked into a surprising shop. We were also given a lot to eat and drink: from parmeggiano (super tasty) to different types of prosciuto and cooked ham to stuffed pasta and chewy horse meat to an ice cream with two flavors. We drank a white frisante and a red lambrusco. Wine that we would never choose ourselves but that makes it all the more surprising. Everything was casual, informative and very cozy.
