Our visit was absolutely worth it! It was so unreal to see the craftmenship and beuty of each and every violin. The staff were very knowledgable and answered any questions we had. We were able to hear a 1668 violin played and the sound was incredible. You must visit the Museum, you will be amazed.
Cremona is simply a gem. This museum is a treasure. Very easy access for anyone with disabilities. The collection and the displays are absolutely wonderful. If you can time your visit to take advantage of a concert, all the better. Prices are very reasonable and they have a senior’s discount
This was amazing. The presentation of the exhibits. The layout was second to none. Interactive displays. Staff were exceptional. So helpful. We did the concert, outstanding. So worth it
Amazing museum focused on the history of violins and string instruments as developed in Cremona. Obviously Antonio Stradivari is a central character but are others to understand their roles. There are many examples of the best violins in the collection. Entrance is very reasonable. Note: On Sundays, there are recitals in the Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi within the museum building. On the Sunday I was here, a Giuseppe Guarneri violin Stauffer 1734 was being played by Emma Bertozzi. The performance was stunning and the acoustics are wonderful. This is not to be missed an a great value at 12 euros per person.
I did purchase a ticket through Viator as the Museum Website dates were all unavailable. So by them buy tickets made them unavailable so you are forced to buy it here at a higher price. It is an atlernative if you. "have" to attend. They also dont tell you utill the day before you NEED to print the voucher. Hopeful you get lucky and your hotel can print ot for youm Fair warned !!!
The museum is located in Cremona. If you have any interest in Violins then this is worth a visit. Of course there is a Stradivarius violin on display amongst many others. The display shows a nice history of the instrument and how it developed e.g. The modern bow was only developed in the 1700s. The international Triennale Violin making competition is held here. It's great to see the retention of these skills and their recognition.
Good for students, school groups and persons wishing an introduction to stringed instruments. Major museums throughout the world have similar displays. Small museum in modern delux building, entry price high.
Very interesting museum with lots to see. Quite busy but big enough to not get in the way whilst you tour around. Some lovely exhibits.
I’m not a violin player but I recognise craftsmanship, in fact it’s more like art. I’d wanted to see the museum for a long time and it was spectacular.
Wonderful overview of the history of the violin. Amazing collection of old master's violins, displayed so all angles could be viewed.
Led by docent Catarina, we had a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! We are not violin players or aficionados, but she made our visit informative, entertaining, and completely enjoyable. She did not charge for her one-hour tour but we gave her a generous tip to demonstrate how appreciative we were for her expertise and willingness to answer all of my uninformed questions. We were simply overwhelmed by the museum and our experience with Catarina! We cannot recommend this experience highly enough.
Very nice explanation of an employee in the treasurebox about the violin makers in Cremona. We now look with a different view at violins, the art and the development through the years. Recommended!
Amazing museum, very informative and seeing all these famous instruments was just incredible! This is a very peaceful museum and the staff was great.
We visited this museum by chance, and was very impressed by it. The violins were really interesting, even if you're not super into music. Took around 30-40 mins to look around, but well worth it if you're in the area. Not expensive at all and the shop was good too!
Anyone with any interest in music history and stringed instruments would delight in this museum. It is a beautifully designed building inside. Located in the center of Cremona (a lovely town) and with a great ratio of displays of gorgeous, historic instruments and fascinating learning displays. Performances are also scheduled on weekends.
Amazing collection of beautiful, historic instruments. More than just violins as there were a wide variety of other stringed instruments in the collection as well. The Museo also has a stunning, small indoor recital hall that occasionally hosts performances that will showcase one of the Stradivarius violins. I am not a classical music expert by any means but we were fortunate enough to see one of these performances and it was truly inspiring. It was an event I will never forget. If you love music and have the chance to attend a performance, I highly recommend it.
Amazing!!! The incredible craftsmanship and history made for a memorable visit. I appreciate the friendly and professional staff as well.
Sunday afternoon, too hot to be outside... near Cremona... the "Home of the Violin"... it would have been a sin to pass by. We were so delighted to visit the Museum of the Violin... a wonderful history lesson as well as an appreciation of the skills of mam in devising such versatile musical instruments. Do not pass by!
The artistry and craftsmanship will amaze you as you learn the history of these amazing instruments. In the tour you will learn how they are made, the materials used and the major makers. The museum has a vast collection of instruments to see.
I’m not really into classical music at all. And I never played an instrument. But I like history. And I found the violin museum to be super interesting. I really liked it a lot. And the instruments were beautiful.
CREMONA is known for its artisan workshops that have been producing high quality stringed instruments since the 16th century. We are here for a day to visit the Violin Museum (with an emphasis on Stradivari. They have a large display of violins and other stringed instruments and excellent exhibits about the history of violins and how they are made. A Great Experience!
Despite having no musical training/experience whatsoever, I found this museum to be totally fascinating. It is an attractive building and the exhibits (many of them being interactive) are extremely well thought-out and nicely displayed. Lots of interesting information on the history of the violin, construction of this instrument (comparable to a beautiful piece of furniture) and of course, displays of some incredible Stradivarius violins. Cremona is an easy train trip from Milan and I would highly recommend this museum.
Hands up, I have no particular interest in violins & came purely as a tourist ticking off must do’s in the city of violins. There are various interactive units & info stations for those with a deeper interest. Tour & audio guides are available but I was content with the QR code blurb. The building itself is attractive & the display of centuries old instruments striking & photogenic. It would have been a highlight to witness a concert or audition, but these seemingly only occur at the weekend & the auditorium is closed on other days. Staff were friendly & helpful. There is a nice cafe, which in addition to its interior seating, has tables in a beautiful, al fresco courtyard.
Seeing these priceless violins fulfilled a decades-long dream. Our guide, Clara, gladly shared so much information with us. She helped us have a wonderful experience.
We were surprised that the museum did not offer any acoustic experience. No devices to hear and compare the sounds of the different sorts of violins mentioned or on display in the museum. Also, there were no audioguides available, despite they were advertised at the entrance and warmly recommended. Overall, it was below expectations and also too expensive.
I'm sorry , I don't permited entry because no-pass for to pandemic epidemy. Grazie thank another time
A beautiful and incredibly informative experience! The collection is impressive as is well curated. Highly recommend, and if you plan ahead, you can see a concert live each Sunday at noon. Btw, tickets are cheaper in person at the museum versus purchasing them online via TripAdvisor. And they have plenty of available tickets.
Great museum with lots of fascinating displays and interactive screens. Really enlightening. Good for kids too.
As a violinist this was Mecca. So many priceless instruments under one roof! How I would have loved to hear.... and play them all.
Very interesting, great museum. Excellent and interactive displays. It's worth visiting Cremona, which is an awesome city.
The Violin museum is very interesting for any musician!! We did not anticipate the scope of the exhibits and did not allow enough time...there is so much to see (and hear!!!). Cremona is a an hour by train from Milan, and if stringed instruments are of interest to you, this is a MUST!!
In this museum everything looks top designed, but it misses passion. For me as a non-musician i could not find many interesting features. The audioguide is constantly changing its story, there is a lot of bling, but no vision in what to tell the visitor. Ten euro is defenitely too much for this modern show-off.
I was surprised to see so many Stradivari, Guaneri, and Amati violins among others. This has to be the largest and most significant collection of violins in the world! The museum is well-designed and the music hall is shaped like a violin! There is plenty to look at and is quite informative in regards to violin making.
An interesting and fascinating experience, easy to reach, no lines or issues buying tickets on-site, very friendly staff
The violin museum is obviously a fundamental step of the visit to Cremona. It is very remarkable, exposed in a modern and effective way and very usable. The limit it has, like other uniquely themed museums, is the sheer number of objects that disorients you after a while. But the best part is the Sunday concerts in the auditorium, with original Stradivarius and incredible young artists of enormous talent.
For the second time at the museum, this time in the company of our granddaughter who, like her grandparents, found the multimedia contributions located along the museum route useful. Beautiful and valuable instruments on display that in addition to being admired can also be heard. One cannot fail to emphasize the worldwide importance of Cremona’s violin making and the artisan workshops still present in the city, with students and enthusiasts who come here from all over the world.
We are not passionate about violin, but the museum is still interesting to learn about the instrument and the art of violin making in Cremona.
Museum very neat and also with very simple explanations unique and great masterpiece happy to have been there
Seen once is enough, it is interesting because it enhances the Italian product in particular our artisans, just have it. Price 12 euro/person
While anyone can enjoy it, the truth is that if you are not a lover of string instruments it may be somewhat less attractive. Inside you can see the whole process of building a violin, and enjoy a huge collection of violins from different periods, highlighting, of course, several Stradivari. Highly recommended whether or not you are in love with violins
Not to be missed if you are in Cremona, the city of the Master Luthiers and the great Stradivarius. The museum houses priceless instruments in a modern and captivating environment. To see whether or not you are passionate about music.
I wanted to see this museum, I was shocked by the beauty of its artistic works by craftsmen Luthiers. Spectacular.
MAGIC! To do absolutely! Explanations are given by multilingual staff. The staff is patient and friendly, including Enzo! Thank you and congratulations. A real pleasure this visit! especially for our daughter who plays the violin and wishes to become a violin maker. The tour is really cheap. This is a must! Not to be missed!
The splendid beam-style palace houses jewels of exceptional value, the explanation of the competent guide makes the instruments well appreciated in a beautiful environment In the end we could appreciate the concert sound of a stradivarius played by a very good violinist The brilliant idea is the possibility to give a private concert to those you love most
A nice museum but for those who do not know much about the violin and its world it is not very interesting. The entrance price I think it is high, 12 €, because we were not able to fully appreciate what we saw. I imagined a different museum, but being in Cremona, it could not miss the visit.
Auditions with instruments from museum collections. Extraordinary experience available in the Giovanni Arvedi auditorium. Ticketing system in my opinion revisable.
Well-structured museum, priceless violins there are many interactive stations. Staff very friendly and helpful to tell anecdotes about Stradivari.
Museum that becomes unforgettable if you start asking questions to one of the room attendants... it will reveal a world of craftsmanship and passion!
I was here with the school and I was not at all disappointed is a fascinating story that of the violin even for those who do not make music.
