Nikolai was amazing! He made it fun and VERY interesting with all his great stories!! He answered every question…he showed us EVERYTHING there was to see…I never felt rushed…all along he made it so much fun!!

Itinerary
Leave central Paris and head southwest by luxury minibus to the historic town of Versailles, roughly 25 miles (40km) away. Famous as the home of King Louis XIV, the town’s palace, gardens and memorials all attest to the sheer grandeur of his ruling era. First stop is the Palace of Versailles, the town’s sprawling palatial compound where Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette, once lived. At the center of French royal power throughout 17th and 18th centuries, the building oozes royal elegance and, as such, draws visitors from all around the world.
Head straight past the long lines of visitors outside the palace with your skip-the-line ticket, and head inside to experience the history and opulence of it. On a tour led by your expert guide, discover the stunning State Apartments that comprise the Hall of Mirrors and Queen’s Apartments. While walking, your guide will enthrall you with tales of the kings who lived there.
After approximately one hour exploring the Palace of Versailles, step outside to discover the magnificent gardens at your own pace. Just as impressive as the palace itself, these French Baroque gardens took nearly 40 years to complete and feature highlights such as the famous Versailles fountains and the Orangery. Following your visit to the gardens, enjoy some free time for lunch (not included) near the Grand Canal. Your guide will be happy to recommend nearby options. If the weather permits, you may also choose to enjoy a light outdoor picnic on the grass by the Grand Canal.
Your afternoon is spent at the estate of Trianon, which "is perhaps most closely associated with Queen Marie-Antoinette", where you will visit the Petit Trianon, the place where "The wife of Louis XVI regularly sought refuge." Marie Antionette’s Queen’s Hamlet is nearby, and this is the last Versailles sight to be seen before your journey back to Paris. Designed by the popular French architect Richard Mique, the retreat features a charming thatched-roof cottage, lakes, streams and even a little farmhouse. After exploring the Queen’s Hamlet, head back to your luxury minibus for the return journey to Paris.

Had a fantastic visit to Versailles with Oliver as our guide. We were very lucky to be the only two people on the tour that day and the weather was perfect. Oliver was able to provide great historical background and answered many questions that we had. The lunch location was busy but the food was very good. Highly recommend this tour for the day and hopefully you will be lucky enough to get Oliver as your guide also.
Olivia was fantastic! So knowledgeable and kind. She took the time to explain the history without boring any of the attendees.
Very interesting tour: small group, good timing and logistics, very interesting tour with a lot of history in both castles. Lunch place can be better in food quality, but it was Ok for so small price. Thank you for the great rip!
Lovely building, amazing gardens, lunch spot was ok, guide was very friendly. There wasn't enough time to explore even half of the gardens, and it was much more walking than we expected. The Queen's Village part was a lovely surprise in spite of the trek - looked like Hobbiton.
Michelle was so knowledgeable. I loved hearing her stories and anecdotes. The provided lunch was a favorite with all of us on the tour.
We enjoyed this tour very much. The tour guide was excellent who did a great job educating us on what we saw and spent just the right time at each place. I never would have gone to see Marie Anntoinettes house on our own and so happy it was on this tour as it was absolutely beautiful. We also had a wonderful lunch that was so convenient to where the Palace was. We really appreciated that we could choose what we wanted and the food was excellent! We would definitely look into taking other tours with that organization next time we are in Paris. Thank you so much.
Totally worth the money! Nick was a nice & knowledgeable guide. Lots of good information about Versailles & France. The lunch was great! I would highly recommend visiting Versailles this way.
Tour was great and the staff welcomed me when I arrived. Once we got to Versailles the queue for groups was about an hour. Once we began our guide was excellent and provided in depth details about the palace. Michael was great and he has extensive knowledge. Every part of the trip he let us know what, where and when we needed to meet. Thank you for wonderful day.
A fantastic tour visiting Versailles Palace, Trianons and the Queen’s Hamlet - so much history! Isabelle, our guide, was great - very knowledgeable, explained things really well and more than happy to answer our many questions.
Nicholas was very knowledgable and friendly! He even let us borrow his umbrella when it was raining. It was a great experience!
Isabella was our tour guide, she was excellent. She shared her extensive knowledge of the history, art, and palace. This tour is fantastic, as a note requires a lot of walking, so prepare in advance. Lunch was provided inside the restaurant, our only change would be if we could have eaten on the patio.
If you are planning to visit Versailles, this is the way to go. Olivier - our guide - is very knowledgeable on the history of Versailles and its role in French history. He not only gave us interesting facts about every room and artifact in Versailles but also pointed us to a related artifacts in Louvre. The tour was well organized . We kept the time all through the day. The drive from/to Paris was very comfortable as well.
Nicholas was very knowledgeable and made the tour so much more memorable. A beautiful part of history to learn more about!
I highly recommend this private tour which I took last week for Versailles by tour guide Nicholas. Versailles is overwhelming in sheer size and magnitude, and that doesn't even include the thousands of people lining up for tickets etc. I was happy to skip the lines and be given a personalized, extremely thorough tour of all of Versailles -- chateau, gardens, etc., which included the other chateau and palaces on the grounds like Marie Antoinette's Hamlet. Having a lunch on the grounds was very good as well, and came at the exact time for a break. Tour guide Nicholas was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and his English was perfect for this tourist whose long-lost French was spotty at best. Highly recommend this tour.
We enjoyed our guides love of the history of versailles and all of the kings and queens. The tour was wonderful. I’ve been on this tour 4 years ago and thought it might be a repeat but it was not. New information and strolling through the grounds was wonderful. I’m sorry I do not remember our guides name.
Everything about this tour was wonderful! Our guide Isabelle was so incredibly knowledgeable. I asked her some random questions. She gave us a tour on the way out of Paris and as we drove through the town of Versailles. There was not one thing we asked that she did not know. Even though the line was quite long to get into Versailles, she quickly got us in with no waiting. Once inside, she was expert at manipulating though the crowds so that we never felt encroached by them, and she would move us away when other people tried to get close and tag along on our tour. She gave us lots of information and touring and also plenty of time to shop the gift shop and wander the grounds. The included lunch was amazing and delicious. I 100% recommend this tour, and the tour company Paris Trip. I messaged them twice with questions before our tour date and heard back from them very promptly both times.
An amazing guide, Isabelle (apologies if I spelt it wrong). She literally takes you back in time to visualise the happened history
Michelle was phenomenal, her knowledge and enthusiasm was unsurpassed. Best part of my Paris experience!
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He was also very accommodating, especially in the rainy weather.
We really enjoyed this tour. It was just the right amount of time to enjoy the Palace, the gardens, have a nice lunch, then finish at the Trianon and Queen's Hamlet. Our guide was so knowledgeable and really made this tour enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Our guide was excellent, was so knowledgeable on Versailles but all of Paris!!! Very friendly and went beige and beyond to help!
Lucille our guy was very informative with lots of stories about the Kings, the wives, the mistresses of Versailles. The attention paid to the design & purpose of Palace was expressed by our guide & we came away knowing so much more. Lunch was good too.
We booked two different tours and both were well organized. Both guides were friendly, knowledgeable, approachable and personable. The tour departures were not close to our hotel so we got to experience riding the Metro trains to their office. Omg Paris peak hour trains was an experience I wouldn't want to do again. Both of the tours were small in size of participants which was nice.
Our second day in Paris for the first time, our family (mom, dad, 2 teenagers) had pre-booked this trip and we were not disappointed. Michele was our guide and warmly welcomed us, sharing her expansive knowledge of not just the places we visited, but on the way out of Paris for example, gave both historical and detailed accounts of the city’s architecture, the neighborhoods we were driving through and so on. She gave fascinating overviews on everything we were seeing and were about to see. She efficiently moved our small group (8 total) through a bustling Versailles, each with our own headset as she narrated the highlights, and gave us time to individually discover the gardens surrounding the palace. In Giverny, she got us there before the crowds hit, prepped us all with backstory and gave us time to explore the beauty of Monet’s home on our own. Again, she provided context and meaning to all we were seeing, completely enriching the experience. Lunch at Le Moulin de Fourges was a perfect rest spot, everything planned and ready for our arrival, so all we had to do was enjoy. As we were enjoying our lunch, Michele was collecting cherries from the surrounding trees as a thoughtful treat for each of us. Overall this day trip was amazing and highly recommended. Michele took it beyond our expectations. Thank you for such a lovely day!
What a great day! Michele was the best guide we’ve had as she knows France 🇫🇷 And her English is good. She was considerate of our needs and took care of us. We were made aware of interesting details that we would not have heard without a guide. Thank you Michele.
Lucille was our wonderful guide for a full day trip. We were treated first rate. Tour of castle had 10. Then we walked through gardens on our own after Lucille pointed out highlights. We included the lunch which was in a lovely restaurant BUT in retrospect we could have booked independently and saved a lot of $ and had more selections. After lunch we were driven to Marie Antionettes village. We had another smaller group tour of the home and village and gardens. That was very special. Lucille answered any questions about all of French history and helped put the kings and revolution in a wider perspective. It was an excellent way to see Versailles and all it has to offer.
Our guide Michelle was fantastic! Best tour we did the whole trip! She was friendly and knowledgeable and skipping the lines was worth every penny! Also the lunch was great which is an add on but I highly recommend it. Wear comfortable shoes the place is huge.
Christoff was a wonderful tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting historic information. We had a wonderful time on this tour. I would highly recommend this tour.
Our semi-private tour of five was one of the best I’ve had. Our guide Michelle was fantastic. She really brought to life King Louis the 14th, Marie Antoinette, and others. Understanding them helped bring Versailles to life for us. We all especially loved hearing about the village Marie created.
Everything about this experience exceeded expectations! Our tour guide, Isabel, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating! I'm travelling with my mother who has bad knees, so in order to be able to enjoy the gardens, we utilized a wheelchair for her within the palace. Isabel helped facilitate that and also thoughtfully recommended that after our walk of the gardens to the restaurant, that she would drive us to Le Petit Trianon, saving my mother's legs for the picturesque walk to the Hamlet. Versailles, of course, was as phenomenal as I had hoped. The restaurant was so charming and the lunch was delicious! It was a lovely respite in the middle of an amazing day. Le Petit Trianon and the Hamlet gave such a tremendously fascinating perspective into the psychology of Marie Antoinette! I was truly blown away by the experience!
Our favorite thing we did while in Paris. We highly recommend this to everyone. You must do the all day tour of Versailles and marvel at the beauty.
Isabelle was the best! So knowledgeable and so patient with all our questions. An excellent tour guide. We had so much fun with her showing us Versailles and Queens Hamlet. It was a beautifully done job. Highly recommend this tour. Lunch was also very very delicious!
This tour was awesome! Isabelle was so professional and knowledgeable. My family of 4 were picked up in a very nice van with a couple. We were very comfortable on the ride there. My dad asks a lot of random questions, and Isabelle was able to answer them all! Lol Once there, Isabelle guided us through the palace then let us explore the gardens at our own pace. After, we had a fantastic lunch at one of the cute restaurants in the garden. We finished the day with visiting the queen’s hamlet. Isabelle was kind enough to drop us off near our hotel. Excellent service and highly recommend this tour.
We met our personal guide, Isabelle, at the tour office. If you can, you MUST request Isabelle! From the moment we clicked on our seatbelts, our tour began - she has a friendly, conversational style that immediately draws you in and fills your imagination with the spectacular imagery of Versailles and (you don’t even know this part is happening) a thorough, historically accurate account. The day is over before you know it, and you come away with new perspectives and appreciation. This is the tour you want and need for Versailles.
We had the best day in Versailles, we got awkwardly lucky seeing we are traveling during the CV Pandemic and crowds were exceptionally light. Our tour guide Oliver, was absolutely wonderful and a wealth of knowledge. We did the full day with lunch and access to Marie Antionettes house which is a must do. The lunch that was included was quite large but also included wine which was a plus! Everything was so beautiful and such an amazing sight. The tour pick up was very easy to find and check in. Overall would definitely recommend.
Richardo was well spoken, intriguing, polite and accommodative. Most importantly he k ew his stuff and knew how to share it with the people present. Bravo!
Great tour experience with a fantastic guide. So glad we got to spend time at the Petit Trianon and the Hamlet. I recommend not doing the included lunch - probably better to do it on your own so you can order whatever you want as opposed to the limited prix fixe menu. We ended up not having a lot of time to eat because service took long.
This tour is expensive but worth it if Versailles is an important site for you. The transportation provides added tour and information time and is insurance against the frequent transportation strikes in France. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable and the length was good. If anything, I would have enjoyed more time there--especially if it had been in the summer when the gardens were in full glory. I don't know how anyone does it in just 4 hours. We had a very small group--just 3 of us--and were able to see what each of us wanted to see and ask plenty of questions. The lunch was better than I expected in a nice garden side restaurant with 3 courses and wine.
Great tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative. lunch was good, not spectacular. We were very lucky, only three of us on the tour, this was only possible because of time of year, not too many visitors in winter. my only complaint is that tour is very overpriced. I know this when I booked it, but all the other tours were booked. If you are on a budget take the train to Versailles and do the tour on your own or hire a guide when you get there
Stephanie!! Stephanie, Stephanie, Stephanie! This woman was an amazing tour guide. Couple her w/ the Versailles tour & it was a definite highlight of our entire trip. She was funny, engaging, knowledgable, interesting & full of personality. She really brought the whole tour to life. The Versailles tour was fascinating on its own. So beautiful. Hard to comprehend living that way. We had a small group & really enjoyed each other's company. Stephanie made it easy to learn - educating us while encouraging us to enjoy the scenery & the fellow guests. She did a great job of corralling us all. I don't think she stopped talking. Which was great because her level of knowledge was unbelievable. She would make a great teacher. I would've enjoyed this tour w/out her, but I'm so glad I didn't have to. Lunch was great. Truly delicious. Good wine & conversation. We had just the right ratio of tour to downtime. We got to explore on our own. I didn't think I would be as interested in the gardens, but Stephanie had so much to share, I learned more than I expected. I can't say enough about this tour. The bus was so nice & comfortable. The lines were LONG!! I was so grateful not to have to wait. More time to enjoy. At Stephanie's suggestion I watched the Versailles series afterward to relive my experience. I couldn't get enough.
We really didn't know how the day was going to since the strikes continue and are pretty bad all over. Entry to Versailles had a two hour delay - Gwen handled it very professionally, she offered to buy breakfast and gave us additional info on our tour. After we were able to enter the tour was flawless and even better than expected. She was informative, gave us tons of details not only on historical facts but daily life during the time covered. She was undoubtedly the best tour guide we had during this trip! The decision to take a smaller tour was also perfect, since we didnt have to deal with long lines and grouping everybody together was easy (we were 3 couples). Hire her, she will make your day!
A little long but I picked the full day. We skipped the lines but it was a bit too crowded for my taste.
I booked the full day trip to Versailles for myself, my twin sister and my 70 year old mother. I knew there would be a lot of walking, but didn't realizing how tiring the day would be. We started out on time from the Paris Trip office. Our guide, Roseann, was a small efficient woman with 20 years of experience with tours in Paris. She had a wealth of knowledge about Versailles and the surrounding area. After a one hour drive to the palace we toured the Palace for roughly one hour. There are a lot of stairs and some dim areas so if you have mobility issues be warned. My mother is visually impaired so had some trouble with the stairs. Most rooms are fascinating but after a few rooms they all blended together. After the morning tour ended we could either walk through the garden or be driven to a restaurant on the grounds for a nice three course. They were able to accommodate for my sister and I who are vegan. By all accounts the steak was rubbery and the salmon was a it undercooked but it had a nice ambiance. We toured the Tiranon Estate after lunch. It was where Marie Antoinette went to relax and get away from the stress of the palace. It was less crowded, pretty but not as exciting as other areas. By the end of our time walking through the gardens we were all exhausted. Plenty of people of all ages fell asleep in :Our guide offered to take us to another set of rooms but everyone was ready to go. Our guide was good at adapting to different requests and ability.] If I could do it again I'd book a half day. A full day was just too much at one time. I'd also book a golf cart to see the gardens.
Everyone told us to skip Versailles because the lines would be too long and it would be so crowded we would not enjoy it. So wrong!!! Our guide Ricardo was not only knowledgeable about the history, but he knew how to navigate the site so efficiently that not a moment was wasted on a line!!
There is so much to be seen at Versailles. It is a complex mixture of opulance, historic individuals and events right through WWI. Our group was small and very friendly. Our guide spoke with us about our destination on the 1hr drive there. He escorted us into the palace and stayed with us for about an hour and a half. Much of his talk was about the mythological figures in paintings...too much. We were then on our own for lunch for about an hour and a half. He then met us to escort us to "the little farm" Le petit Trianion. After about 40 minutes we were again on our own. "How long do you think you"'ll need?" He asked. Well our tour lasted 6 hours including lunch. 3 hours were on our own. This was the priciest tour we took in France and not worth the price.
It was our lucky day - this turned into a private tour as we were the only couple signed up that particular day. Our guide did a spectacular job of getting us to the gates and positioned for entry at our pre-assigned time. She then guided us well through the palace itself over about an hour's time. We then had time to peruse the gardens on our own before meeting at a pre-assigned time and location near the Grand Canal for a 3 course lunch. Following lunch, we were driven a short distance to the Grand Trianon an Petit Trianon. From there, I wandered on my own to Marie Antoinette's village before returning to the vehicle for return trip to Paris. Pick up was near the Eiffel Tower and very convenient to our hotel.
Guide was very knowledgeable. I wish she had slowed down her speech just a little. The perfect amount of time to see everything.
I enjoyed all the knowledge out tour guide shares with us. She was able to answer all our question with great detail. After seeing the long lines I was very thankful to have the tickets to skip the line. There were only six of us during the walk through Versailles which made it easy to listen and stay in a group among so many people. I liked that our guide gave us an hour or so to walk the gardens. I was disappointed that I didn’t get to see more of them. That had nothing to do with our tour. The gardens are so big you would have to make another trip to see all of the grounds. The lunch was excellent! The little lady restaurant was beautiful and the staff was so friendly. Our guide was nice enough to suggest a few other places to see while in Paris. She accommodated is with a drop of where we could walk and visit a few other places in the evening. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Versailles is a very enjoyable experience. From the hall of mirrors, the paintings, and the sculptures into to the gardens, statues, and fountains outside- it take a good couple of hours to make it through the tour. We had an amazing guide- Ellenor, who was a delight with an amazing amount of information. The only downside is the amount of people that they pack into the building. It also takes a while to even make it in the front door, so patience is required!
