Victor was our tour guide for the day. He was the absolute best! Was very flexible and accommodating to our group. He also was very knowledgeable about areas we visited and specifics about Australians at war. Highly recommend this tour
Had a great day, Ollie was great, very knowledgeable and passionate about The battles for the Somme.
Wonderful experience with knowledgeable guide. Highly recommded.
The tour was great but sobering. Or guide was able to tailor the tour somewhat to accommodate people’s interests. I found the name of a great uncle memorialised at Thiepval which was moving. Not an easy day but worthwhile.
Magnificent day. Fantastic tour around the region. Perfect for everyone, especially Australians and Canadians. Thank you to Will our tour guide.
Mathieu was a thoughtful, delightful and knowledgeable guide. He was very kind and considerate to us all. And he is an excellent driver! Thank you so much Mathieu for an unforgettable visit to the Somme.
Frankie was a fabulous guide—passionate about the Somme battles and helping everyone understand how they fit in to history. He made sure everyone was comfortable and always provided bathroom and coffee breaks. The van was comfortable for 7 people. There was a nice balance between the Amiens cathedral, battlefields, and museums/visitor centers.
Excellent day tour from Paris - it’s a long day but a great tour of the Somme, Amiens and the Sir John Monash Centre. Our driver/guide Victor was enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
Victor our tour guide was excellent. Very informative and keeped the tour going nicely. Once he knew we were Kiwis made a special effort for us with a little diversion from the normal tour plan to visit the memorial for New Zealand soldiers. Highly recommend this tour. Thanks again Victor
All went well until drop off. Promised an 8 pm drop off. No anticipation of popes visit. Very stressful trying meet taxis
A must do for any Australian interested in our World War 1 history. A long day but well worth it covering many significant Australian battlefields. The highlight is the immersive movie at John Monash Centre. Our guide Phillipe was great.
The entire tour was brilliant but was made even better by the personal touch from our guide/driver, Matthew. His knowledge of Australian WW1 history is incredible. He took the time to get to know each of us and with only 7 in the group, there was no waiting around. A fantastic tour! Highway to Hell ha ha
Amazing day out. Our guide Chris had so much good knowledge of the Australian war sites. Was an amazing experience. Would recommend any Australian to do.
A great experience, our guide Chis was absolutely amazing and extremely knowledgeable.
A very moving encounter with the impact of war... not just on those in the trenches but families and innocent civilians...
Victor was amazing! Tour was very moving and well organized. Very well done from start to finish. Great day!
I would thoroughly recommend this tour, it was honestly one of the best days of my whole trip! My tour guide Chris was incredibly knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He was also happy to go off script based on what I was interested in and we managed to sneak in some extra sites beyond the usual stops, which was great! Beaumont-Hamel was a real highlight. It was so well preserved and genuinely moving. We also stopped at Delville Wood, which isn’t normally part of the tour, but it ended up being one of the moments that stuck with me the most. The tour itself was brilliant, but a big part of what made the day so special was Chris’s genuine passion for the history, it really came through and made the whole experience feel personal. If you’re after a guide who knows his stuff and truly cares about what he does, I’d thoroughly recommend this tour and Chris.
A day trip, visiting these now quiet but oddly beautiful WW1 battlefields, full of greenery and flowers was a truly sobering experience. The monuments to the never found are meticulously tended to, and the large loss of life for such small or no gains in terrain very apparent as you cover the region. Mathieu was a fantastic guide, with a passion for the subject, full of knowledge and took great care to accomodate the varying physical abilities of the group. Never rushing anyone, returning to the van to explain the history again when people needed to stay there to rest. Also a thoughtful and versatile conversationalist. Took us to a delicious lunch. Would highly recommend.
Great to see some interesting sights but a bit disappointed with lack of war history in that region on the drive and although the French guide was a lovely guy he was very hard to understand.
Increadibly moving. Made me even more proud to be an Australian than I already feel An exceptional leader and a lovely small group.
Our(my husband and I) tour of the Somme, Thiepval and the Australian Memorial and Monash centre was extremely well organised-meeting point was clearly flagged in the cofirmation emsil, pick-up was smooth and Frankie our tour guide was really excellent-knowldgeable, friendly with a nice, low key delivery, and he let the impact of where we were and what happened there during 1914-18 speak for itself. I would highly recommend this tour with this company to anyone.
My husband and I did the Somme battlefields tour with Chris on Sunday 21/6/26. We were the only ones on the tour so we had our guide all to ourselves. Chris had a HUGE wealth of knowledge and you could tell he was passionate about WWI history and history in general. The air conditioned mini-van was great and the pick up point was easy to get to. We visited quite a lot of sites and I really liked the John Monash Centre. I also liked getting out of Paris and seeing the beautiful countryside in the Somme area. This tour is very much geared towards Australians which was great for us. I had a special interest as my grandfather fought on the Western Front when he was only sixteen years old. We had lunch at a lovely restaurant in Albert recommended by Chris - the food and service was great and we enjoyed our conversation over lunch with Chris. This tour is totally worth it for anyone who has an interest in WWI, Western Front battles and the Anzacs. Thanks Chris for a great day !! Greg & Cheryl Australia
It was amazing. Our tour guide, Victor, was outstanding. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, thoughtful and fun! We learned so much and the connections to oir Australian troops.
Our guide had lots of information for us. The van was very clean and comfortable and he was a safe driver. We visited all the sites and had plenty of time at each one. It was a very wonderful experience.
The Somme battlefields tour provides an excellent background of the start of WW I and the early trench warfare in NW France before the Americans entered the war. It includes war cemeteries, an excellent Australian war museum, and a visit to Amiens Cathedral.
Clement was our guide. He shared a vast amount of information with us as we moved from one site to another to see old trenches, memorials, and other important and fascinating sites that brought the hardships, horror, and gallantry of those soldiers to life. A day well spent whose memories will last.
The tour was very emotional and yet so rewarding. Being in the fields where so many young men lost their paid the ultimate sacrifice was such an honour. I would like to mention our guide Etienne, he was so knowledgeable, informative and such a delightful young man. A credit to Blue Fox Travel. Thank you for making our day so memorable. We recommend this tour as a very informative and emotional day yet very rewarding day.
It is mainly catered towards Australian visitors as the focus was on Sir John Monash and the Australian effort. For somebody who is relatively new to the First World War, I was hoping it would be more general around WWI and that the guide would know more about the battle itself and not just little bits and facts about what happened here and there.
The tour was a very full day (12 hours) and very comprehensive - we went to at least a dozen sites and had adequate time at most. Our guide was friendly and accommodating, a good driver, and genuinely interested in the topic. He did need to read off the cheat sheets rather than know the material by heart. We had a nice lunch stop and a small but sociable group. It was more or less ideal for my needs. We went on a public holiday which did cause some challenges with finding a public toilet, and there was traffic chaos returning to Paris (no one's fault). Thanks for a great tour.
I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in WWI history, especially Australians. Our tour guide Frankie was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He went to the extra effort to help us visit the memorial graves of our two great great uncles who died in the battlefields of the Somme, along way from their small farming communities in Tasmania, Australia. It was very memorable and moving. All the sites visited were excellent as were the food stops. Frankie's local knowledge was a great asset. I especially loved the tour of the Amiens cathedral and morning tea at the nearby French cafe. Brilliant! Highly recommend.
Good experience and enjoyed the trip. We would have liked our guide to have given more commentary whilst travelling. He did an excellent job at each location, but would have liked more about other places (where we didn’t stop) when driving passed / through.
The meeting point at Cafe Dada was easy too get to. The Coffee and fresh hot croissants were excellent. We met the Owner & Manager who came to meet us as I made a special request to travel to my Great Uncles gravesite which was under 2km from one of our stops. Blue Fox understood my mission as I emailed them a month before. I did my homework years ago and was aware of the exact location at Contalmaison Chateau Cemetery. Mathew our guide was outstanding and carried a journal that had first hand accounts of Veterans who served on the Somme Battle. He also had maps so we and the two other couples could follow along. The sector we traveled was very heavily ANZAC and 9th/15th Scottish Division engaged. I was able to render honors to my Great Uncle who we never forgot. As a Veteran myself, I'm still quite moved by the experience to touch his headstone and show respect. Thank you Blue Fox
The tour covered all of the places that Australians were at in the battle of the Somme. The guide (Clement) was very knowledgeable and provided great insights to the history and events that occurred at each location. Would definitely recommended this tour to anyone who wants to know a key part of WW1 history.
We had a fabulous day today.. Our tour guide/driver Matthew has a great knowledge of the area and at the same time took a great interest in learning about our stories. Having a small group tour was ideal and the air conditioned mini bus was a comfortable ride. We learned so much today and would happily recommend this day trip.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Our guide, Frankie, was interesting and very well informed. The tour was well paced, and well worth the cost. We visited a lovely café, and an excellent restaurant/museum where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as well. Overall, the day was most interesting and a lot of fun.
An excellent & informative small group tour (7) of WW1 sites with emphasis on Australian involvement. Our guide, Frankie, was very knowledgeable & passionate about giving us insights into the conflict & made the experience quite poignant for my wife whose grandfather served there with the British Army. Tour was well paced with stops for morning tea & lunch allowing good breaks & comfort stops. We considered our day great value & learnt so much of the history of the conflict from Frankie
What a day.....Phillipe met us on time and was engaging from the start. We visited many stops that were of interest and it all came together once we arrived at the John Monash Centre at Villers Bretonneux. The sun was out and the company great. Thanks for an incredible memory! Jen and Colin, Australia
Great tour, informative well organised and detailed. We had a fine experience. Small group and experienced guide ( Victor).
Very happy with Viator , the tour guide was just great, very knowledgeable and just a great guy. Was on time. Definitely use Viator again. No problem. Regards Paul
Great full day tour of very relevant locations. Franky was a great guide.
This was a really wonderful experience. Our tour guide and driver Frankie was extremely informative and had a great rapport with Australians. His whole presentation and knowledge made the tour more special. We are so pleased to have taken this tour and well worth the expense.
It was as advertised I was happy with the travel transport and the guide was very helpful and knowledgeable
This was the most incredible, eye opening tour! Our guide was an amazing historian who knew the history of the areas we visited. He also took us to an amazing restaurant and gave us ideas of things to do in Paris.
Franki was an amazingly knowledgeable guide. Very friendly and patient. We were able to locate great grandfather on the British memorial at Thiepval. A very moving day.
We had an amazing and informative day as we went to visit many sights around the Somme. The trenches and the Anzac museum (even though we're Irish) were highlights. We had a lovely lunch and most importantly with my father, we got to see and touch the name of his uncle on the Thiepval memorial. A beautiful and sombre moment but a real bucket list item too. Will was a fantastic tour guide of real wit and charm. He was very well informed and I would advise everyone to use his services if interested in the Somme, especially the Anzac folks.
Fantastic. Matthew is an All-Star. Very knowledgeable and good people skills.
Comprehensive tour if the Somme region. Particular focus on Australian participation . But a good general survey revealing the landscape of the battles fought by all.
A very enjoyable day that covered a lot places. Very informative but still time to experience it yourself.
Great itinerary, helpful guide. Etien made it an engaging day, with interesting commentary at each stop. I learned so much. The tour was geared to the Australian experience in WWI, which I enjoyed discovering and came to appreciate.
