My wife and I had an incredible experience touring Normandy with David! He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the history. The entire experience was personal, well organized, and truly unforgettable. Easily one of the highlights of our trip to France. We highly recommend to anyone visiting Normandy!

Itinerary
Your Normandy D-Day Experience From the Caen Memorial to Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery, this full-day excursion takes you to six significant D-Day sites. Explore World War II history, discover the German coastal defenses at Longues-sur-Mer, and learn about the events of June 6, 1944, with your experienced tour guide.
07:30 Enjoy convenient door-to-door pickup and travel to Caen in a comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan. The journey to the Caen Memorial takes approximately 3 hours, covering around 240 km (150 miles). We will make one stop at a highway rest stop with cafés and restrooms along the way.
10:30 - 12:30 Located in Caen, the Caen Memorial is one of France’s leading museums dedicated to World War II and the pursuit of peace. Its extensive exhibitions provide a compelling overview of the Battle of Normandy while bringing history to life through the personal stories of the people who experienced the war. Highlights include: A 20-minute documentary about Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. The opportunity to explore a German bunker as part of your museum visit. An impressive collection of World War II artifacts and historical documents, including the famous Enigma cipher machine. A moving and thought-provoking documentary about the defeat of the French army in June 1940. 12:30 Continue to the German gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer
13:10 - 13:30 Explore the German gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer, part of the Atlantic Wall, an extensive system of coastal defenses built by Nazi Germany along the coast of occupied Western Europe to repel an Allied invasion. Stretching for approximately 1,670 miles (2,700 km), the Atlantic Wall included bunkers, gun emplacements and other fortifications. The Longues-sur-Mer battery was one of the key German coastal artillery positions defending the Normandy coastline on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Its four large naval guns were capable of targeting Allied ships approaching the landing beaches.
14:00 - 15:00 Arrive at Omaha Beach, one of the most significant D-Day landing sites of June 6, 1944. Learn about the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the Allied troops who landed here under devastating German fire. Approximately 34,000 American troops landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, making it one of the largest and most challenging of the Allied landing operations. Take time to reflect on this historic beach, visit the Signal Monument, and enjoy a lunch break at one of the nearby restaurants. 15:00 After lunch, continue to the Normandy American Cemetery, located just a 5-minute drive from Omaha Beach.
15:10 - 16:10 Visit the Normandy American Cemetery, a moving and unforgettable memorial overlooking Omaha Beach. The cemetery is the final resting place of 9,387 American service members who gave their lives during the Allied campaign in Europe, most of them during the Battle of Normandy. The Wall of the Missing commemorates another 1,557 American service members whose remains were never recovered. Walk among the white marble headstones and visit the memorial colonnade, featuring the powerful sculpture Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves and maps illustrating the military operations of World War II. From the cemetery grounds, you can also see remnants of the German coastal defenses on the cliffs overlooking the landing beaches. 16:10 Continue to the nearby Overlord Museum, just a short drive away.
16:15 - 17:00 Located just a few hundred yards from the Normandy American Cemetery, the Overlord Museum offers a fascinating look at the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy through an extensive collection of World War II artifacts and military equipment. Explore an impressive display of tanks, artillery, weapons, military vehicles, a V-1 flying bomb, personal belongings and other historical objects. The museum brings the events of D-Day to life, offering a closer look at the equipment used and the experiences of the soldiers who fought in Normandy. 17:00 Departure to Pointe du Hoc located just 20 minutes away.
17:20 - 18:00 Arrival at Pointe du Hoc, a prominent cliff between Utah and Omaha Beach. This point was important because it was the highest land between Omaha and Utah beaches and could thus fire upon both of them. The site was a gun battery, fortified with concrete casemates and gun pits, forming part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall defences. Visiting the Pointe du Hoc You will learn about the 2nd Ranger battalion sacrifice to take this crucial gun battery on the cliffs of Omaha Beach on June 6th 1944. Many of the original fortifications and bunkers remain on the site and are open to the public, including the fire control casemate, on top of which there is a monument to the 2nd Ranger Battalion. 18:00 After Pointe du Hoc visit, relax on the journey back to Paris in your comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan. The drive takes approximately 3.5 hours, covering around 290 km (180 miles), with a short stop at a highway rest area offering cafés and restrooms along the way.
21:30 Arrive back in Paris and enjoy convenient door-to-door drop-off at your hotel. Please note that the arrival time may be slightly later depending on traffic conditions and your hotel’s location.

Wonderful day. Excellent guide and driver
Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable. The tour is a long day (14 hours round trip). Our guide had a planned schedule and he was very rigid about the schedule. We had been to Normandy before and it would have been a better day if the guide was more curious when he picked us up to see what would be our most interest since we were building on our past experience.
Very extensive trip. Well worth doing if you want a full day in Normandy. You get to see just about everything!
My husband and I wanted to visit Normandy, particularly the timing for D-Day, since we were visiting Paris. Another tour was booked by us but that provider changed the itinerary at the last minute leaving us in search of a tour for our visit to Normandy. It was frustrating to say the least! Fortunately we found Cyrus at Clewel Travel! I cannot begin to tell you how pleasant and accommodating Cyrus was! He helped arrange our tour showing us all the sites we wanted, was so pleasant and absolutely a wealth of knowledge. We could not have found a better tour! In fact, it was a blessing the other tour changed their program leading us to find the “perfect tour”! And they were far more reasonably priced than their competitor😊😊 Could not have asked for anything more- Cyrus even got us back in time to keep our dinner cruise reservations! We would highly recommend this tour! In fact we were so happy with them we booked a different tour the next day - different guide but same excellent service! Yes - this is the tour / tour company to select if in doubt. You will be delighted that you did💕❤️
Our tour guide Danil knew his stuff and gave a wealth of knowledge regarding that terrible time. The flag ceremony was particularly poignant! Be prepared tho for a lot of walking! I would also give 5 stars to our driver Vadim
We had a spectacular day with David and Vadim. Stay with me while I capture this amazing day in some detail so that you will immediately book with this company! David, our guide, and Vadim, our driver, came to our hotel in advance of our pick up time and were so kind and polite! At 7:30 am, we set off for Caen to begin our tour of the D-Day museums, memorials and sites. The van was spotless and quite comfortable and there were waters waiting for us. The museums we visited were so well done and were rich with history and memorabilia from this important event. The American cemetery left me speechless as did Pont du Hoc. The day moved smoothly and David was very specific at every stop with how much time we had and where to meet. We never felt rushed or confused. David took us to a lovely restaurant with excellent food and very fair prices. While Vadim deftly handled the driving, David shared his incredible breadth of knowledge about not only the D-Day landings but all facets of the war and beyond. It is a long drive to and from Paris but this was an epic day from start to finish and I could not give David and Vadim a higher or more enthusiastic recommendation! Be advised that this tour covers a lot of sites and it is a 14 hour journey but it is so well worth it. This private tour was well worth the cost given the outstanding service that was provided. I look forward to booking with this company in the future.
It was wonderful. The guide was very knowledgeable and he and the driver made the entire experience feel more like a road trip with friends. I couldn’t have been more pleased!!!
The tour was great. The driver and English speaking guide were knowledgeable about Paris and Normandy giving us insight on interesting sites along the way. The timing of the tour had us at the right places at the time. While I would have loved to spend all day at some of the sites, it just wasn’t possible given the amount of time we had to drive. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the highlights in Normandy, but not having the schedule to allow for a slower pace.
David was very knowledgeable and provided extra insight into the museum visits…I really enjoyed the smaller van used to transport us…got to see the real French countryside!
Tour was great. Our tour guide and driver were very accommodating. Definitely a must do tour. Restaurant they take you to has very good food and fast service.
Great experience. Our guide and driver were very accommodating. Definitely a must see tour. Lunch was at a great restaurant.
What a wonderful tour! We did 3 days with Clewel. 1 day in Paris, 1 day Normandy/Mont St Michel, and the Versailles tour with lunch that also included Giverny. David was super helpful and a wonderful kind tour guide. We had one person with an injury that needed some adjustments and everything was made to facilitate her needs for the tours to the best of ability in France. The drivers were great. The cars clean and had Air conditioner! Private tours are the way to go if you have kids. They even have car seats. 100% recommend.
Mykyta and our driver were amazing. Kept the kids entertained and told us a little of the history of each place we visited. At the American cemetery in Normandy our guide took us around and had us in the perfect spot to watch the flag lowering ceremony at 4pm. Very moving experience. Can not recommend this tour enough.
Booked through Viator. My guide was David and driver was Alex. They were both amazing! Can't say enough great things about both!!!!
Just did a small group Normandy D-Day tour and it was incredible. Huge thanks to our guide David, who was an absolute wealth of knowledge—he brought the history to life at every stop with amazing detail and insight. Also, big appreciation to our minivan driver, who got us as close as possible to each site—minimal walking, maximum exploring! Such a moving, informative day. Highly recommend if you’re ever in the area! 🇫🇷🪖👏
David was great - provided amazing knowledge on everything around D-Day and the whole war - and offered up great conversation and insights about Paris and the surrounding area as well
Booked a private tour to Normandie. Was picked up at our apartment in a Mercedes minivan. Alexandra our guide was a pleasure and pointed out spots along the way to Normandie. Stopped for lunch at a quaint little port town and lunch was delicious. Normandie was worth the 3 hour drive. Thank you Alexandra and our driver for the fun day!!!
Our tour guide and driver were wonderful and knowledgeable. They were polite and took our lead. We stopped at a lovely spot for lunch. Beautiful weather and a very profound experience
Best way to see the Normandy area. Ilia our tour guide was fantastic, the car/driver made getting around so easy. We had 1 day for Normandy and saw so much. Highly recommend
Diana our guide, and Vadim our driver did a great job. We knew this would be a long day, but at each stop we were given plenty of time to explore each destination. Our favorites were the American Cemetery, Point Du Hoc, and Arromanches. Diana did a great job telling us about each location and helped us make the most of each stop. Departed hotel on time, and arrived back in Paris in time for a late dinner.
The Cemetery and the Bunkers at Omaha Beach. Very emotional experience. The guides were on time and knew where to go every step of the way
Beware - You won't get what you paid for and you won't get a response or compensation when you advise you didn't get what you paid for. Stay away from booking this tour. I am a travel advisor and I booked it for a client with Viator. It clearly stated English speaking guide, otherwise I would have never booked it and would have booked a small group shared tour that was less then one third of the cost. Sadly my client received a driver only that only spoke Ukranian. My client spoke French and asked if he spoke french since no English and he said no. Since this was a highlight for my client and his grandson, they were so disappointed. The driver used a translator on his phone that was horrible and not translated accurately, so they were guessing what to do and how to proceed at each stop. The worst part of this is when I wrote Viator and asked for a refund since it clearly wasn't what the client paid for. I was told multiple times by Viator that they confirmed the services were provided. I advised over and over, he drove them but didn't speak one word of English. So how is this a private guided English speaking tour. They responded again that it the client received all the services. I wasn't advising the client didn't get tickets and didn't get dropped off for every sight advised as a visit. He didn't have an English speaking guide which it clearly stated on the voucher and on the website for Viator. So beware and don't book anything with Clewel travel as they knew what happened during the tour and proceeded to say they supplied the booked service. I will also no longer book Viator because they didn't back the product that they allow to be sold on their site. They finally came back and gave the client 25% refund on this service after I advised to at least refund them 50% considering they got less than half a tour a driver and no English guide.
What an amazing moment in our lives. Rustam, our tour guide, we nicknamed “Rusty” was amazing as he orchestrated our time with video prior to reaching destinations, elaborated on activities and guided us providing us ample time to experience locations. Rustam was not only well-spoken but, he was so much fun and we didn’t want the tour to end. It was not just about the tour, it was about people and here is a winner. Cheers! Paul & Kathy from Connecticut
Pointe du Hoc was amazing. Best part of the trip. Unfortunately, our guide did not speak English (which it stated they would in the description). We had hoped for someone to actually “guide” us, but our driver would take us to each point and then explain in very broken English what time we needed to be back at the car. He was very nice and the car was clean & comfortable, which is great for a long day of driving. But for the money, I don’t feel we got what we paid for.
The guides setup a full-day tour nicely, it allowed us to visit the top 5 sites in Normandy and still get us back to Paris before 9pm.
The entire day was informative and enjoyable. Seeing the sites and learning more about the history was great. Rustam was a top notch guide and went above and beyond to make sure that the trip was a great experience for everyone.
Be advised, this is not a "guided" tour so much as transport to the mentioned places. There was no traditional guide, just a driver who's English was good, but not great. He was not able to offer any information along the journey about the places along the way. Instead, you are taken to each stop, and you can browse on your own. We were expecting a guided tour based on the description of a "guide-driver". This is a fairly expensive taxi ride. That said, the stops were great, and the driver was courteous and did his best to take care of us.
While traveling to Normandy, Valerie share an enormous amount of interesting information on the history leading up to D-Day. She was professional, courteous and informative. We are so happy we took the day to travel to Normandy and Valerie was a delight!
Got to see many highlights of the Normandy beaches and American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. Our time was limited and this tour was ideal for a one day experience.
Our guide Valerie was fantastic! Our driver Roman did a great job-it was a very memorable and enjoyable day
Tour guide extremely helpful and well informed. Tour went off flawlessly. Excellent communication. Pick-up and drop-off exactly on time
We debated if we should do a private tour of Normandy as opposed to a small group tour and we're so glad we went private. Our guide Jane and her husband were amazing and provided so much knowledge and context around Operation Overlord and D-Day itself that we truly got so much more out of it than if we were left to our devices or in a larger group when you're not always able to hear or ask questions. For such an important and emotional event in history my husband and I both felt we made the right decision. I wish that every American had the opportunity to see and learn what we did on this day trip -- I highly recommend it.
Cyrus' private tour of Normandy was both beautiful and moving. I think every American should have this experience! The museum at Caan set-up the resit of the day which included viewing the American Cemetery above Omaha Beach, watching taps played at 5 p.m., then the drive down to the beach and a walk to the German bunkers over the cliffs. Cyrus' beautiful Mercedes van was immaculate and only exceeded by his warm personality and extensive knowledge of the region.
