This small island in the heart of the Seine has been at the centre of Parisian life for over 2,000 years, and its skyline remains one of the most remarkable concentrations of medieval and Gothic architecture anywhere in Europe.
Step into a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and discover one of Paris’s most breathtaking hidden gems on this guided tour of the Sainte-Chapelle. Nestled within the medieval Palais de la Cité, this 13th-century royal chapel was built by King Louis IX to house precious Christian relics—including the Crown of Thorns. With a licensed expert guide, you’ll uncover the fascinating stories behind this extraordinary monument and its royal patron. Prepare to be awestruck by the dazzling stained-glass windows—15 towering panels that soar nearly 15 metres high and depict over 1,000 vivid biblical scenes in jewel-toned light. Your guide will help you decode the glass, pointing out hidden details and sharing the symbolism and craftsmanship that make Sainte-Chapelle a true marvel of medieval devotion and artistry. Whether you’re passionate about history, architecture, or simply want to experience one of Paris’s most magical spaces, this tour is sure to leave you enchanted.

Guide was very friendly. Was very knowledgeable about cathedral. Did not feel rushed. Would recommend
Do not miss Saint Chapelle when visiting Paris! It is a small gem with the most spectacular stained glass windows from the 13th century. Anton our guide was very informative about the history of France and the importance of this particular palace and chapel which once housed the most important catholic relics owned by the king.
We learned a lot about the history of Paris and of Sainte Chappel. Our guide was knowledgeable and courteous.
Wonderful tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and made our tour very interesting. The short walk around the area gave background before entering Sainte Chapell. We highly recommend this tour.
The headphones were problematic. Wld not stay on ear and cld not hear your guide. Disappointed and ruined tour..
Matt did a great job explaining what we saw. Walking around Notre Dame before hand was a surprise bonus.
Almost everyone who travels to Paris wants to see and tour Notre Dame, and they definitely should, especially now that it has been restored because of the fire. But many miss the world’s most amazing collection of original stained glass that is only a few hundred yards away on the west end of the Île de la Citè: Sainte Chapelle. King Louis IX lived in the palace on the west end of the island and he was very religious, so much so that he is the only king of France to ever be named a saint! Even though he was so religious, he was also a very wealthy king and he decided to build his own private chapel at his castle. He poured so much money into it that it took less than 10 years to complete this amazing chapel. The panels of stained glass tell the story of Old Testament books, the passion of Christ, and one panel depicts the history of the chapel’s most precious relic: the Crown of Thorns worn by Jesus. (Now housed at Notre Dame). The panel even depicts King (St) Louis receiving the crown from monks and then delivering the crown from the river, down the street to the chapel dressed as a barefoot penitent man. Our guide, Avi, had an encyclopedic amount of knowledge about King Louis IX life and the Chapel and did a wonderful job guiding us through all of it. As far as tour guide go he is a 10/10. We highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Guide provided lots of information about Ste Chappelle and the prison next to it. Stain glass is amazing on bright day.
Anthony was our guide and was amazing! SO enthusiastic & knowledgeable…..truly had a passion for Saint Chapelle & guiding tours!
Anthony was wonderful! Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Clearly he loves his job and the venue. Go.
Tour was great and very informative. It was nice to have the skip the line tickets and we got right in. No waiting in the long line.
Wonderful tour. Very informative and excellent tour guide. My complaint: Our tour was scheduled for 2:45pm, however when we started the tour we were told that our admission was 3:15pm. The tour guide asked us if we wanted to go to Notre Dame or the Palace to kill the half hour. We went to Notre Dame and even though I enjoyed it, I was annoyed we were starting the tour 1/2 hour later than our tickets calle for. We should have been informed ahead of time.
Avi was excellent... so much knowledge, but added some humor. Took questions... spoke clearly. My favorite
A really enjoyable tour, that helped our understanding of Sainte-Chappelle. We learned far more from our knowledgeable guide than we could have ever done visiting on our own. She was also really good at giving us context for what we were seeing and helping us to see some of the more important details.
Amazing! Great guide very patient and answered all our questions. Sainte Chapelle is beautiful and not to be missed.
This tour’s meeting place was not at the Sainte Chappell, but rather at a site not far away. Julie, our guide, was excellent. Her English was very good. She provided some Paris history along the way.
