Paris Off The Beaten Track: Latin Quarter Private Tour

We booked this walking tour at the last minute on a rainy morning in Paris. Another tour company cancelled due to the rain but not Withlocals! Our guide was Anukool and he was such a great guide! First of all, we booked same day and he was so great about getting the late notice of our booking. He communicated with me to let me know when he’d arrive and I appreciated that proactive communication. Anukool really knew his history and shared so much of his knowledge in a fun and engaging way. We loved his style, his easy going nature and his ability to adapt based on what we had previously seen. We loved that he allowed us to stop at Angelina’s to get some hot chocolate since it was a little wet and chilly. It turned out being just our group of 7 and it was just perfect. He took the time to connect with each of us in some way and it made the experience that much more personal. We saw some great landmarks that we wouldn’t have seen had we not had a tour guide. I’d recommend Withlocals if all guides are like Anukool.

Lucien was a fountain of knowledge and catered for our family group of diverse ages by the information he shared. We may have walked over 7kms but it was an easy stroll filled with laughter and sightseeing.

Lucien was awesome to work with. Even before we arrived in Paris he was very responsive, gave us lots of recommendations for purchasing tickets ahead of time and great dinner spots. Once we met up with Lucien he was full of Paris history. We loved getting to hear stories and learn as much as we did and we never felt overwhelmed it was the perfect amount of detail. We also visited a basque restaurant for lunch with Lucien and the spot did not disappoint. As our day winded down he even taught us how to use the metro. If we come back we will 100% be booking with him again.

Lucien was an absolutely brilliant guide. We booked two tours with him (Latin Quarter and Les Halles originally). Not only was he gracious when I made an error on both days about where we would meet, he even agreed to change the tour to fit our needs at the last minute. Lucien had a playful wit, lovely countenance and he is very knowledgeable about the “off the beaten path” history of Paris. Our first tour was in the Latin Quarter, which gave us a depth of ancient Parisian charm. I can’t recommend him enough. Thank you Lucien!

Our guide, Maxime, was engaging and knowledgeable about the Latin quarter and the history of Paris, the Sorbonne, the senate and Luxembourg gardens and many many other points of interest. Our family enjoyed his tour very much and we highly recommend him.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and showed us many off-the-beaten track locations. However, we never got the promised coffee and onion bread.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Lucien was able to include several of the sites and museums that we were hoping to visit. He also gave us instructions on which ones were best to do on our own so that we were able to optimize our time together. Recommended an excellent lunch spot as well. My husband could’ve spent the entire week walking thru Invalides with Lucien! Overall, couldn’t have had a better day and so grateful that we found Lucien.

I had a great conversation with Gelsomina while she led me around the neighborhood, seeing a bunch of interesting architecture and getting a history lesson along the way. It was a really welcoming experience and I highly recommend it.

We had a bit of trouble finding the guide, ad the instructions said to meet at gate 1 and all gates were numbered. Once we found our guide, it was great.

What a fascinating and informative tour of Paris's Latin Quarter! My wife and I had been to Paris on several occasions and thought we had seen and learned much about the city. But our incredible guide Wan opened our eyes and minds to many historically and culturally important (and often very charming and touching) sites and information that I'll bet most tourists would miss or not understand. What made this such a wonderful tour was the very friendly and conversational way that Wan shared her encyclopedic knowledge of Paris's history and culture. We have never had a tour guide who had such a perfect balance of personality, professionalism and knowledge! We feel so very lucky to have taken this tour and to have had Wan as our guide. It was an experience not to be missed!

Gelsomina kicked off our time in Paris. She was very warm and knowledgeable. She began with the history of the Luxembourg garden, and seamlessly transitioned to the architecture of Paris. She took care to get to know the travel plans for our party, going so far as to provide suggestions for next year’s trip. She was an awesome host and would definitely recommend her for the historic tour.

This was a very good to her and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to find out more about the Latin district. It turns out we were late by about 30 minutes and we contacted Andrea and he picked up the phone every time and helped get us there. went into a restaurant and walked on some narrow streets, that Benjamin Franklin, Napoleon, Bonaparte, and many other French dignitaries at the time went to. We also went into Luxenberg gardens and toured it with taking a look at the French Senate as well. Well done.

Wan was a wonderful guide, showing us corners of Paris we didn’t know about. I’ve been to Paris often but it was still worth the tour, discovering many different angles to love this city even more. Thank you!

Wan was able to navigate our group of 4 kids( ages 7, 8 10,11 )and 4 adults very well on a hot Paris summer afternoon for a Latin quarter guide during peak tourist season . She took the time to explain things to the kids and answer any questions and made it interesting for the kids so they are not bored . She is easy to talk to and a wonderful guide . Iza was a professional and fun guide, showing me exactly the sites I requested in the more casual style I prefer (Latin Quarter and Sainte Germaine). She was highly knowledgeable and gave me lots of ideas about where to eat, where to shop and how to get around the city. I appreciated that the tour was personalized to my needs as a solo traveler. I felt more confident getting around the two neighborhoods we toured after being with a resident Parisian. I highly recommend this type of touring over the large group tours I saw roaming Paris. Iza was a delight and fun to hang out with for a few hours in Paris. I'd highly recommend her for future tours!

Lucien is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the city and took us on routes that we never could have imagined for ourselves. The man is an endless fountain of information. I believe if we were to have extended the tour to two weeks and never left the confines of the old walls of Philips Auguste, he would not have run short on interesting stories. I would highly recommend making him a part of you visit to Paris.

the guide was friendly and personable, however, his knowledge, unfortunately from our point of view was too general/common which anyone who took the most basic world history course in high school or college would have known. It did not feel like an "off the beaten path" tour giving us information that only a local could present, although the highlight was a nice street we did not know about which is Rue Mouffetard.

When he heard this was my first time in Paris he quickly adapted his tour and customized it so that I could get the most of the tour and orient myself in the city. We enjoyed a long, gentle walk throught the Latin Quarter with Anukool who was knowledgable and engaging, giving us insights into the history and flavour of this beautiful area.

My cousins and I had a great experience with Lucien. His knowledge of Paris is very broad. We covered everything from monuments and gardens, to street art. This was by far one of our best experiences while in Paris. This tour is a must do.

The guide never showed up - a huge disappointment as I had booked this as a team building event for work colleagues.

This was our first trip to Paris. Emilie was amazing!! We covered way more ground than we could have on our own (7.4 miles to be exact!) - all while learning so much. Lucien is an excellent tour guide! My family and I (2 adults and 3 children aged 14 to 10 year-old) booked 2 tours with Lucien: 1)”Skip the queue visit of the Louvre'” Lucien pre-booked tickets for us at short notice and in a very busy time of the year. It was extremely easy dealing with him to make arrangements via the app and he always responded immediately. On the day we enjoyed not only all the knowledge he shared with us but the fact that he tailored the tour for the needs of the children. We visited the medieval walls underneath the museum, a part that we wouldn't have necessary have seen otherwise. The highlights he selected for us were spot on and he managed to gave us insights of art history spanning form the classical period to modern art. All was easy to appreciate. The visit to the Louvre would have been completely different without his expertise. 2) “Origins and history of Paris”. Lucien took us on a wonderful trip to the past. We discovered traces of Romen Paris and looked at streets and buildings in a different light. My children could follow his explanations easily and related to what they had learnt in school. He is knowledgable, enthusiastic and well organised and he made our first trip to Paris the most special!

Louis was a great tour guide. We had an issue finding him at the beginning, however, he made up for it.

Anna was a great companion and gave me a lovely tour of Paris. Despite the rainy day, we saw so many of the smaller sights that I was looking forward to and I thoroughly enjoyed the stories Anna shared about each one, the history, current events and little anecdotes that really made the experience for me.

We were on our first trip to Paris and Bibiana was a friendly, helpful guide. She explained Parisian customs and history as we walked, stopping along the way to point out highlights. We felt comfortable instantly instead of that deer-in-headlights feel of a new city. And she took the best photos of us as a couple that we’ve had all week! Bibiana is a cheerful person with a strong personality and very well prepared and knowledgeable about Paris history and surroundings. For a short period of time that we share with her, we were really impressed. We really want to be back in Paris and have her with us. We highly recommend Bibiana as a one of the best tour guide that I ever met. She was puntual and help us even with our departure to the airport. If you want to be happy and laughing all the time and have a wonderful time, you deserve her as your tour guide.

My daughter and I had the pleasure of having Louis as our guide for a three hour walking tour in Paris on September 12. Louis was very knowledgeable of all the areas covered and could answer any questions we had. As I am a bit older I needed more frequent rest breaks and he was very accommodating. I would definitely recommend Louis if you are looking for a wonderful tour guide!

Lucien was our private tour guide. He was very knowledgable and informative. Without his guidance we would have Been stuck with all of the other tourist. He took us off of the beaten path through sidestreets and small neighborhoods that were less crowded and more interesting. He took us to a local restaurant for lunch that was so delicious. Christianne was a wonderful guide. She relayed an incredible amount of historic information and pointed out the best restaurants and museums. Her English was impeccable. We would highly recommend you try a tour with her.

Louis in three words: (i) Knowledgeable, (ii) Personable, and (iii) Fun! Louis is just a pleasure to be around. He gave me the type of tour of HIS city (Paris) that I would be able to give to someone of MY city (Chicago). It was great having someone along who really knows the neighborhoods and the history, and is able to point things out and tell the stories behind them. Another really great thing about Louis is that he is really good at English. Since I am TERRIBLE at French, it was enormously valuable having him tell me what things meant, and even teaching me some french sayings and what they mean, etc. This really added to the whole experience. The bottom line is this: If you want to hire a tour guide from WithLocals, I recommend you hire Louis. He is really fun (and funny!). You will actually LEARN things about Paris, have a lot of good laughs, and end up thinking what a great guy he is and that you were lucky to get him on a day he was not already booked (or in school...Louis takes his studying seriously). I cannot start my words about William without saying Tu es super!'. I hope it means you are wonderful in French. Well am sure my french has not improved but definitely a lot about Paris with the help of our wonderful friend William D true Parisian. Me and my wife really wanted an offbeat experience about the city beyond visiting the famous landmarks and William made it sure we really felt like a Parisian by touring with him in the best neighborhoods and streets. He gave us a good tour in the city with a perfect blend of history and culture. It was a perfect mix and he was very well prepared in advance by knowing our tastes before our tour. Needless to say d tour was also relaxing and chilled out and we didn't feel d pressure of being a tourist with a ticking clock. William definitely knows how to understand your tastes and then improvising it in the moment rather than following a universal recipe. Beyond the tour, it was also amazing to get to know about william as a person. He is truly an artist- A musician by passion with a very wonderful soul. We had a wonderful tour with Juliette. She showed us many parts of Paris that only the locals know about. We also got to sample some delicious desserts. It is great to have a local tour guide who loves Paris.

Thoroughly enjoyed our few hours that we enjoyed in the company of our tour guide, Mischa. The tour was at a very pleasant pace & never felt rushed. There was lots of points of interest that she pointed out along the way. We had already seen all the usual tourist spots so this tour took us to interesting areas off the beaten track. She pointed out some traditional French restaurants for lunch which we ate in later after the tour had ended. The food & atmosphere were wonderful. Thank you.

The best decision we made was setting up a tour with Lucien on our first visit to Paris. Together we planned a list of places to see and off we went. Lucien was very informative, worked with our pace, stopped when we need a drink or bathroom, took great pictures of us at all the iconic sites and all in all is a super Guy. We had the best day and totally recommend Lucien for your Paris tour!

We took a 6-hour tour with Lucien. He was as good as advertised. We saw what we wanted, heard a good historical perspective of each site, learned how to use the subway system, etc. It was a lot of walking, but unavoidable, of course. I would recommend Lucien if you are on a short trip to Paris or just want to get oriented with the city.

Absolutely excellent! I was delighted to receive emails from Isabel advising us to reschedule our tour given demonstrations in the area we were going to tour. She offered to take us that day and re route our tour or take us another day. We opted to reschedule for the next day. Isabel was most informative, fun, and easy to be with, sharing with us her favorite parts of the city at leisurely pace, that made us feel like Parisians.

What a treat to have Zoltan show us Paris. He immediately felt like part of our family. He took us to the major sites and the best little places where we found special treats that we did not know Paris had. Thanks to Zoltan for spending time with us and helping create our dream trip.

Lucien is a great knowledgeable guide with a good sense of humor. We highly recommend him. We did two tours, "Highlights" and "Latin Quarter". If you take the latter tour, make sure you bring up Francois Villon, and you will get some entertaining perspectives on student life. Lucien moves at your pace, and will tailor to your interests, so every tour is a unique experience.

Our group had a lovely time with Mischa yesterday. We wandered the streets and parks of Paris, stopping at a local chocolatier, a beautiful church, a dessert shop, and a fabulous bread bakery. She even helped find a nice bottle of wine from one of the best shops in the city. Such an enjoyable time with a great guide! Thanks Mischa! Ps: We ran into Mischa the day after our tour and she was kind enough to show us to the Je’Taime Paris art wall. We will miss you Mischa!
