Itinerary
Discover the history of Montmartre, as we will climb the butte or hills - starting at its base where the Moulin Rouge’s windmill still spins slowly. Wind up the hill and its cobbled streets flooded with charm to discover the houses of artists like Van Gogh and Picasso who called Montmartre home. At the summit, enter the gleaming white basilica of Sacré Coeur, and score a spectacular photo op of Paris from one of the city’s highest points. Lovers of the film Amélie, will feel at home in this district, where much of the movie was filmed. Continue to explore Montmartre's highlights that generally include - Moulin Rouge, Sacré Coeur Cathedral (with time allowed to explore inside as well), Place Dalida, Moulin de la Galette, Vincent Van Gogh’s house, The Artists’ Square, and Amélie Café. Consider an evening tour option and catch a sunset over the city if you’re lucky (depending on the season).
From our meeting point, we will start by heading towards the infamous Moulin Rouge, a cabaret known for its entertainment for a diverse public, and for being a source of inspiration for international artists like Auguste Renoir.
Next we will see Van Gogh’s house on Rue Lepic, the home of the artist and his brother from 1886.
Next we will walk through Place Dalida, a square of Montmartre dedicated to the French music icon Dalida. To this day many fans and tourists visit this secluded square to pay tribute to the French icon.
You will then have a stroll past the Jardin Sauvage de St-Vincent, a sloping piece of land which the gardeners of the city decided to leave in its fragile state to observe the ecosystem, biodiversity and wild plants. It is overridden by elderberry trees, ivy and colonies of wild insects.
From here, we will make our way to Le Clos Montmartre, a hidden vineyard tucked away in the little streets behind the Sacré-Coeur, and one of the last remaining vines in central Paris.
We will then make our way to what is known as Le Lapin Agile, a cabaret known as the home to the Montmartre Bohemian set until 1914, and whose sign remains a memorable symbol of Montmartre.
Following on, we will make our way to the infamous Basilica Sacré-Coeur, a Roman Catholic church completed in 1914 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The interior of this beautiful church contains one of the world’s largest mosaics, which depicts Jesus Christ.
After this we will pass by the Place du Tertre, a square only streets away from the Sacré-Coeur. With its many artists setting up their easels here each day, the Place du Tertre serves as a reminder of a time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art.
Next you will pass by what is known as the Espace Dali, a museum with around 300 original artworks. It is a permanent exhibition devoted to Salvador Dali and his sculptures and engravings.
We will then see the Bateau-Lavoir, one of the most famous places for artistic creation in Montmartre. From 1889 it was principally known as an artist’s residence and represented a place to live and discuss for many painters, writers, actors and art sellers.
You will also see La Maison de Dalida, the house in which the icon lived between 1962 and 1987. Located on 11 Bis de la Rue Orchampt, it is known as the location where Dalida committed suicide in 1987.
Coming close to the end of the tour, we will head towards the metro station Abbesse, which represents a masterpiece of Art Nouveau architecture. Designed by Hector Guimard, it is one of the two surviving metro entrances of the kind in Paris.

Keats was an excellent guide. I’m so glad she spoke American English as I could understand her very well. She was very friendly, nice and funny. I liked it that we Dawn the Montmartre area and that we walked to Sacre Couer.
Eden was by far the best tour guide we have ever had in all of our travels through Europe Eden was extremely well prepared and informative. She went above and beyond to provide the most amazing tour of Montmarre as well as providing insight into the history of the city and its culture
Alasdair was an excellent tour guide. He was well versed in the history and art of Montmartre. The two and a half hour tour flew by!
Tamar was an excellent guide. She took us on a long stroll up the Montmarte hill and gave wonderful historical insights of the area. Highly recommended her as a guide!
Tamar was amazing! Highly recommend!
Great tour-good context and exceptional pre-tour communication. Eden is a fantastic guide. All 8 in our party would seek her out for future Paris tours.
Historical highlights of Monmarte! Our guide shared in depth knowledge of the history and area! She had humor and great story telling.
The guide Tamari was punctual, professional, and exceedingly knowledgeable. Most importantly Tamari was personable, and patient as we had many questions about Montmartre throughout the tour. I would strongly recommend Tamari !
Hugo was excellent. Best tour guide I’ve had thus far. 10/10 recommend
Eden was incredible on our tour today of Montmartre. We took a walking tour with guide **Eden**, and it was the highlight of our trip. Eden was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, bringing the city’s history to life with vivid stories and local insights. What stood out most was Eden’s warmth and flexibility—answering every question, adjusting the pace for our group, and sharing hidden gems we’d never have found alone. The tour was well paced, easy to follow, and started exactly on time. I highly recommend Eden to anyone wanting a friendly, informative, and memorable experience.
Tamari was a knowledgeable and experienced Tour Guide who made our tour very enjoyable. She provided great detail in a friendly and engaging manner. Thanks so much for an enjoyable tour!
This was probably the highlight of our entire trip to Paris. We had an amazing tour with Tamari. She was knowledgeable and helpful and pointed out everything we needed to know. Plus she was very accommodating for our group and our multiple bathroom stops :). Overall, a wonderful experience!
A very informative and interesting tour. Our guide Tamari was excellent and provided a wonderful experience. There is a lot of history in the Latin Quarter and she really provided a great experience.
Excellent tour. Very informative. Loved the experience Great walk and beautiful photos and views
We had an enjoyable, relaxed tour of Monmartre from the Moulin Rouge to The Basillica at Sacre Couer. Florian our guide led us to interesting sites and added stories about the people and historic events that took place in this area. Highly recommended.
It was exceptionally well organized, and the views were absolutely stunning. The hike itself is an easy to moderate stroll, making it accessible for most people. We also lucked out with perfect weather. Our guide, Eden, did a fantastic job weaving in the historical and sociological context throughout the tour, which made the experience so much richer. The stories, cultural insights, and the fun scavenger hunt for the Space Invader mosaics added a unique and memorable touch. A wonderful experience from start to finish! 😊
Alastair was captivating, entertaining, his method of delivery was very theatrical and kept our attention for the full 2.5 hours. This is a must on your list when in Paris and Alastair is the guide to request 10⭐️
Keara , was wonderful. Great tour, great insight. Loved it.
It was a pleasure to stroll the streets with our guide, Tamari!
I did the walking tour of Montmarte. Georgia was the guide and she brought the whole area to life, past and present. Her knowledge was unbelievable and her stories were great. She was very contentious of the people in the group, making sure everyone had a voice and was okay with the pace. She was very approachable and wanted to make sure we didn’t leave with any questions unanswered. I hope to see her again someday.
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Tamari! It was great to learn so much about Montmarte, and Tamari was engaging, interesting and funny.
Tamari was an excellent guide. Walking and then stopping to tell us about the area and past residents. Her knowledge of the area was extensive. We thank her so much. She deserves 10 stars.
Keara was amazing! Very knowledgeable, charismatic and made the tour a wonderful experience! What a great way to spend the morning!!
Tamari was simply wonderful! Bubbly personality and very knowledgeable!
Tour guys was great very knowledgeable.
We had a fantastic Montmartre walking tour with Keara. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the history and culture of the neighborhood come alive. What really set her apart were all the local tips and recommendations she shared along the way from hidden gems to great places to eat and explore after the tour. Her insights helped us get even more out of our time in Paris. Highly recommend this tour, and if you’re lucky enough to get Keara as your guide, you’re in great hands!
Montmartre is a must see during a stay in Paris. Great walk though old narrow streets meandering up the hill from Moulin Rouge to Sacre Coeur. Our guide Maria was very knowledgeable and personable, and ensured she spent time with all. Our tour group was small at just 5 people, which was great for us, but think the maximum size of 12 would be fine.
Alasdair was our guide who gave detailed nuggets throughout the tour all the while so entertaining!
Great entertaining guide. Background in history and theatre helped with a great story about the places visited.
Maria was a warm, friendly, interesting, and knowledgeable tour guide. Her knowledge and sense of humor made for a fun and informative time.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about French culture, history and art. Made this tour very special.
We had a fantastic experience in Paris on a walking tour of the Montmartre district, with our tour guide Sophia L. She was super friendly and personable, and had an incredible historical knowledge of the area, and seemed to truly enjoy showing us around the city. Along with information on the tour itself, Sophia was happy to share with us her favorite things to do in Paris, along with food recommendations, etc. We went to several of the places that she recommended and they did not dissapoint! I also appreciated that the groups were relatively small, as there were only 5 people in total on the tour (3 from my party, and 2 from another). I'll definitely be booking with Babylon Tours again the next time I'm in Paris.
Alisdair’s blend of acting skills with a history degree combined with for an entertaining, informative view of Montmartre! We enjoyed much!
Eden was knowledgeable and informative. The tour was great despite the sudden downpour. All-in-all; a great experience with lots of photo opportunities.
Sophia L. Was everything that a great guide could have been expected. Her pacing was great and the insight she provided was both interesting and informative. The scope of the tour was perfect for the lotted time. Everything was perfect.
Maria was great. The tour was very interesting to know all about Montmartre!!!
Eden was fantastic! Great guide and very knowledgable. I highly recommend this tour.
The tour was excellent! I loved the stores and learning the history
Great guide!! Great story telling, I really enjoyed it!
Alasdair was an excellent guide, not only teaching us much about Monmartre but also making the stories fun and humorous. We would strongly recommend this tour and this area of Paris.
Our tour guide, Alasdair S, was a font of knowledge on the art, artists and history of Montmartre and made our 2.5 hr walking tour in the evening most enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to know more about the hill that was annexed into Paris. Our tour began in front of Moulin Rouge and ended at Sacre Coeur. It was gentle walking but up the hill over the course of the tour. Many stops to talk and point out items of interest made this very doable for our 50+ aged group.
“Alasdair is great! We visited with our kids and they loved it. He makes the tour truly enjoyable by helping you immerse yourself in what Montmartre was like back then, so you can really feel the town’s dynamics. He also uses light role-playing to illustrate the history, and it works wonderfully. I’ve visited France three times, and this was the first time I truly grasped the Montmartre vibe. Highly recommended.
Our tour of the Montmartre District was amazing! It exceeded expectations definitely because our tour guide, Francois, was so knowledgeable about the area’s art history, sociological evolution, and architecture. We booked a small private tour, but it ended up just being me and my daughter on the tour. Such a bonus! Francois was able to tailor our tour to what interested us most - art, culture, women in French history, Amelie, and beautiful spaces! It was a bonus that it was a beautiful fall evening and Francois knew the best little streets and locations that weren’t crowded and touristy. It helped us get a feel for what it would be like to be a local. We also learned so much about French history! It was a 2.5 hour walking tour, and Francois’s story-telling ability and delightful tidbits of information made this experience highly enjoyable! Five plus stars for sure!!!
Emma was an outstanding guide that was very knowledgeable. She connected with the group and knew a lot of information. We highly recommend this tour and Emma as a guide.
This tour was one of the best ever - our tour guide was incredible! Alasdair was engaging, entertaining but most of all extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area. He made this tour memorable and fun. We feel like we now have a greater appreciation for this important part of Paris and its considerable contribution to the arts.
A must do tour if you’re visiting the sights of Montmartre. Alisdair was fantastic!!! We chose the 5pm tour that lasted approximately 2.5hrs and it was money well spent. A million times better than wandering around yourself. If you’re lucky enough to get him, Alisdair’s story telling was next level - elevated us into the world of the 1800-1900’s - a bygone era for famous artists and iconic places around the area. Captivating tour, even in the rain - tour ends near Sacre Coeur (recommended to visit after tour with free entry)! Thanks again Alisdair for such a fun and fascinating tour - We loved it!!!
Montmartre is hills so be aware that climbing is a must. I brought walking sticks and that was very helpful.
Our tour guide Eden was very knowledgeable regarding the Montmartre area and was very accommodating of my mobility issues. She allowed for me to get up the hills at a slower pace without creating a difficult situation for the others on the tour. She also provided her cellphone number so we could meet at Sacre Coeur as I took the funicular to the top while she climbed the stairs with the others.
Excellent tour with Tamari. We felt like we truly got to see how people live and lived in Montmartre. The tour was full of interesting stories and recommendations. Highly recommend
