Itinerary
Your Normandy D-Day Experience From the Caen Memorial to Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery, this full-day excursion takes you to five significant D-Day sites. Explore World War II history, discover the German coastal defenses at Longues-sur-Mer, and learn about the events of June 6, 1944, with your experienced tour guide.
07:30 Enjoy convenient door-to-door pickup and travel to Caen in a comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan. The journey to the Caen Memorial takes approximately 3 hours, covering around 240 km (150 miles). We will make one stop at a highway rest stop with cafés and restrooms along the way.
10:30 - 12:30 Located in Caen, the Caen Memorial is one of France’s leading museums dedicated to World War II and the pursuit of peace. Its extensive exhibitions provide a compelling overview of the Battle of Normandy while bringing history to life through the personal stories of the people who experienced the war. Highlights include: A 20-minute documentary about Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. The opportunity to explore a German bunker as part of your museum visit. An impressive collection of World War II artifacts and historical documents, including the famous Enigma cipher machine. A moving and thought-provoking documentary about the defeat of the French army in June 1940. The museum offers a fascinating and deeply human perspective on World War II, exploring military operations and political decisions alongside the experiences of ordinary people caught up in the conflict. 12:30 Continue to the German gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer.
13:10 - 13:30 Explore the German gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer, part of the Atlantic Wall, an extensive system of coastal defenses built by Nazi Germany along the coast of occupied Western Europe to repel an Allied invasion. Stretching for approximately 1,670 miles (2,700 km), the Atlantic Wall included bunkers, gun emplacements and other fortifications. The Longues-sur-Mer battery was one of the key German coastal artillery positions defending the Normandy coastline on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Its four large naval guns were capable of targeting Allied ships approaching the landing beaches.
14:00 - 15:00 Arrive at Omaha Beach, one of the most significant D-Day landing sites of June 6, 1944. Learn about the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the Allied troops who landed here under devastating German fire. Approximately 34,000 American troops landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, making it one of the largest and most challenging of the Allied landing operations. Take time to reflect on this historic beach, visit the Signal Monument, and enjoy a lunch break at one of the nearby restaurants. 15:00 After lunch, continue to the Normandy American Cemetery, located just a 5-minute drive from Omaha Beach.
15:10 - 16:10 Visit the Normandy American Cemetery, a moving and unforgettable memorial overlooking Omaha Beach. The cemetery is the final resting place of 9,387 American service members who gave their lives during the Allied campaign in Europe, most of them during the Battle of Normandy. The Wall of the Missing commemorates another 1,557 American service members whose remains were never recovered. Walk among the white marble headstones and visit the memorial colonnade, featuring the powerful sculpture Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves and maps illustrating the military operations of World War II. At the Visitor Center, discover exhibits telling the stories of the American soldiers who fought in Normandy and explaining the planning, events and human cost of the D-Day landings. This deeply moving visit offers an opportunity to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and legacy of the men and women who helped liberate Europe. 16:10 Continue to the nearby Overlord Museum
16:15 - 17:00 Located just a few hundred yards from the Normandy American Cemetery, the Overlord Museum offers a fascinating look at the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy through an extensive collection of World War II artifacts and military equipment. Explore an impressive display of tanks, artillery, weapons, military vehicles, a V-1 flying bomb, personal belongings and other historical objects. The museum brings the events of D-Day to life, offering a closer look at the equipment used and the experiences of the soldiers who fought in Normandy. 17:00 After your museum visit, relax on the journey back to Paris in your comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan. The drive takes approximately 3.5 hours, covering around 290 km (180 miles), with a short stop at a highway rest area offering cafés and restrooms along the way.
20:30 Arrive back in Paris and enjoy convenient door-to-door drop-off at your hotel. Please note that the arrival time may be slightly later depending on traffic conditions and your hotel’s location.

Gatis, our driver was kind, smart and a great driver.
What a fantastic day! Driver and our guide, Ilyan were first class all the way. Very knowledgeable and had an answer for every question.
If you want to include Normandy in your Paris itinerary, book this tour. A long day but worth it. Lots of details about D-day and WW 2. Cyrus was a weath of knowledge.
ILIYA was our very informative and delightful guide. We loved our Normandy experience and highly recommend asking for ILIYA and see for yourself how important a reminder of historic events that should never be forgotten.
Dianne was outstanding one of the best guides we’ve had so far. Will definitely recommend again!!!!!
Eli was an awesome tour guide and max was a great driver. The entire experience was extremely educational and well worth the money spent! Eli truly cares about people and the experience they have. Thank you for making this important part of American history a reality for us.
Very disappointed. Tour was canceled without any warning. We were not notified of the cancellation. We had to chase and call, and only then found out it was cancelled. No alternatives were provided for that day and we had plans for the rest of our trip. Goes without saying we were disappointed
My adult family members and I had a wonderful time on our D-Day tour with Clewel Travel. Our tour guide Anna was very knowledgeable and friendly. She took care of setting up everything for our museum and cemetery tours. Our driver, Gatis was a very safe and conscientious driver. They made our day very enjoyable and informative. Initially I had considered doing the tour by ourselves via public transportation. But, I am so glad we chose to do the tour throughClewelTravel. The distance from Paris and in between each location is much farther than I realized. The trip would have been very difficulton on our own. Our trip was relaxing, informative, and entertaining. We highly recommend using Clewel Travel.
Great guide, very knowledgeable
Dave or your guild and Gatis our driver were great. Dave provided lots of historical facts and kept us interested and often amused. He laid the foundation at each stop to help us prioritize must sees. He was flexible with time based on our requests. Gatis added to the in car conversation with knowledge and humor. Together they made sure we saw the flag lowering ceremony at the US Cemetery. This is the highlight of the day. I recommend this tour for a small group or family. They will personalize for you.
Somewhat longer walking then expected but very beautiful history was outstanding and the exibit were great
Guide David and Driver Romo were exceptionally professional
It was an inspirational day. Seeing what happened all of those years ago was heartbreaking and valuable. Uni served as our driver and guide. We had a wonderful experience with him. He is a true asset to your company. Please extend our thanks.
Eli was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable and great energy! Nikolai was a great driver and kept us on time!
Elizabeth and Alex were the perfect guides for the day! They were professional and kind and took us to all of the places we needed to see. Highly recommend!
The best experience of our trip in Paris. Maria and the driver were prompt in picking us up at our hotel and very courteous and friendly. Our driver was very conscientious and safe. Maria worked to get to know us and develop a relationship with us. She was very knowledgeable and was able to share a lot of historical information with us that gave us a deeper understanding of the struggles of France and Europe in the events leading up to American involvement in the war. She spent time setting the stage for the incredible imagery of the struggle of the Allies during Operation Overlord. This was a very moving experience for us. She was a joy to spend the day with. Thank you!
Driver was great. Friendly, but not overbearing. We didn’t get a tour guide, but driver sprinkled in interesting facts. The agenda was packed, but our driver did a great job keeping us on schedule.
Our tour guide went missing the morning of the tour and although the driver and local operator did their best in a bad situation the experience was not what we signed up for. Unfortunately due to travel schedules we were not flexible in our tour date or we would have rescheduled.
Very extensive tour Loved the area Great driving Condensed a lot sights did not have to use my wallet once
great sites visited, guide had some good information , a lot of money because no one booked the trip with us, they changed tour last minute and charged us another 320 dollars, but gave us 2 more sites
Originally set this up as a small group tour and as the scheduled day approached we were notified that my wife and I were the only ones signed up. They gave us an option to cancel or change to a private tour. We chose the private tour, then David our guide and Roman, our driver were assigned. Pick up was promptly at 730am as promised, we headed out in a Mercedes wagon. The drive was about 2.5 hrs to Normandy (bathroom break scheduled 1/2 way) and we made small talk until about an hour out when David began his history lesson. He was well versed and kept our interest all day. We toured museums, watched videos, read journals, discussed artillery, uniforms, equipment, photo exhibits, toured bunkers, monuments, beaches and the second largest military cemetary all while reflecting on the magnitude of this event in history. Worked in a nice lunch in a small town. David and Roman's impeccable timing allowed us to basically walk into a museum and enter a show moments later. We were also able to catch the lowering of the dual flags ceremony in the evening at Omaha cememtary. The day was well planned, informative and though long, was not overwhelming. Each stop allowed us to visualize all of the important pieces that put the D day campaign together. The ride back was about 3 hours and also included a break 1/2 way through. Very memorable Enjoy!

Mykita was a wonderful guide to the D-day sites in Normandy. He had stories to tell and was a great host. And, Aslan was a safe and thoughtful driver. Request them both if you get the chance. Merci!
Picked us up on time from our apartment. Everything was smooth and Vadim our driver was charming and knowledgeable
Our tour guide, David, was excellent. Really enjoyed the Overlord Museum and Gold Beach and Omaha Beach.
The driver Roman was absolutely the best your guide ever. Patient and kind. Took extra care in showing us all the attractions of Normandy.
For anyone who wants to visit and learn about the Normandy Beaches and some of the stories about that day, I would highly recommend this tour. Our guide David and our driver made for a very memorable trip!
Sit back and enjoy the country side and historic Normandy Have an excellent guide that knows his history
The guide and driver were excellent. The guide was well-informed about the history. SHe(Helen) was a great leader and her planning on behalf of the group of clients was great.
David was a great tour guide…he kept us informed of delays with traffic due to D Day celebrations…we still hit all of the stops for the tour!
We took the tour as a family of 3 including a teenager and the tour company was very accommodating to our needs, picking us up and dropping us off right at our Airbnb. Our driver, Vadim, was very professional. Our tour guide, David, was very informative and shared a lot of interesting information that we would not have otherwise known. It was a lot to squeeze into a day but he made sure to maximize our experience!
VERY PRETTY PLACES. TO VISIT Normandy D- Day Landing Beaches Small Group Trip from Parus in France-- all the places. Exactly Fabulous..that you will stay.the day tour is impressive.well ptesentation. Knolegeable and excellent..the Omaha Beach one of the most popular travellers destination ..Overload museum..it gives you a personal feeling about D- Day 16: 45 departure to Omaha Beaches ..it tajes just 5 to 10 minutes ( 5km) at the places. Then youll return at the point..
Planned this experience months in advance and was so looking forward to it ! Day of our adventure at pickup time, our driver is a no show! After numerous calls to Clewel Travel who was originally clueless about our reservation, advised us that there was an accident or something and they were unable to pick us up…offered to do it another day but were unable since we were going back home, so ended up getting a refund
Ivan was great. Perfect Day. We would do it again. Overlord Museum was the best museum. My family loved it.
The American Cemetery was an exceptional experience, enhanced by the museum visit beforehand. The day was well planned and enjoyable in every aspect.
The tour was supposed to be a live guided tour. Our guide slept on the drive out and played on her phone. We were dropped off with only a little explanation of where to go and very very basic info. It was more like a hop on and off tour or a self guided tour. The driver was good but of course he was not the tour guide and did not carry on conversation. Some of the activities on our list were skipped. It was awful.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! We were robbed of our valuables in the tour vehicle, filed a police report, emailed to follow up and no one has been in contact for assistance. Someone please respond to our emails!
Some very memorable moments but very unprofessional tour. Driver was very attentive and made sure we were always dropped off and picked where we needed to be.
We had a wonderful day visiting all the sights of Normandy. It was a long day but worth it. It has been on our bucket list and we are grateful that we were finally able to do it.
We had a great time visiting Normandy! Our driver Alexander was very nice and dropped us off at each place and let us know how much time we had there. He went into each place, bought our tickets and set us up with audio guides. He was not a guide, but a driver - a very good one! Very comfortable Mercedes and we stopped for a 10 minute rest on the way there and back. Would recommend if you’re a history person looking to see all the sites in Normandy in a very easy and comfortable way.
Valerie provided exceptional education on the drive out to Normandy. Her English is excellent and she encouraged questions and provided thorough answers. We felt we gained immense knowledge and background pre DDay. She also explained through the day later events of the war in detail. Valarie also managed a difficult dynamic through the day, attempting to meet needs of the individual in a professional and kind manner. Would definitely recommend this tour. Roman our driver was also excellent.
1st I will say that Normandy requires 2 days instead of the 1 day we had. The pickup and return were very good (despite the long traffic delay on return.) A good guide makes or breaks a tour, and while our guide was very sweet, her command of English was not acceptable for this tour. She was a little hard to hear and understand and her knowledge of the history was borderline. If you like history and want to do justice to Normandy, then this tour is not for you.
I paid for a speaking tour but the driver could not speak English. He was a great driver and did his best
We booked this tour over the others offered by Viator for several reasons - smaller group, private vehicle and extended length of time at several sites. Our guide, Rusty, was fantastic. On-time pickup at our hotel, comfortable Mercedes van (no big bus/big group to track) with scheduled stops, immediate access to sites, with movies where applicable, and a delicious lunch at a beautiful waterfront restaurant. We made two scheduled rest/bathroom stops along the route to/from Paris. Take this tour; it is worth the money for the reasons explained above.
We enjoyed seeing the movie at the Caen Museum which told the whole story for the war. Our driver was helpful and very respectful. We enjoyed the day and were glad we took the opportunity to take this tour.
Despite the rain, which really did set the stage for what we were about to experience, we had a very good day. Our very personable driver/guide, Rusty, was very knowledgeable about the events that took place during those sobering times. Lunch was provided at a very nice French restaurant in the quaint costal village of Arromanches(up to 25e each) with ample free time afterwards. It was a very long day, pickup at hotel at 7:30am and back around 9pm, but a very comfortable minivan ride. The tour company was very quick and easy to communicate with when I had questions about pickup at out hotel. I would highly recommend using them!
Our tour guide was very friendly and helpful. It made for a very long day with the drive from Paris and back, but was wonderful to see so many sites on the Normandy coast in one day. I did not realize how much was there and wish we could have had more time at each site.
We received an email that unfortunately we are only two and therefore everything is canceled. However, for an extra 100 euros, it could still be carried out. For that, we will also be picked up directly at the hotel. Well, what should we do, let's just try it then. And it was the best decision. Not a full bus, but a Benz all to ourselves. The driver Alex was super nice. Not once did he apply pressure. No waiting at the museums. When one travels alone, one also has the opportunity to express special requests. Everything is completely satisfactory. It was a great day. Travel exclusively in small groups and just yourselves. Costs more, but it is very worthwhile. And in terms of time, it is completely sufficient. Nothing is overlooked. Thanks again to the driver Alex.
We did the English tour of the Normandy landing. Very good tour planning and highly recommended to see where the events occurred. We suggest more instances of accompaniment of the guide throughout the tour to have greater historical context. Excellent and very attentive the driver.
