Itinerary
Start by understanding the historic importance of the Marais, which once laid beyond the center of Paris. Today, it is at the heart of the city. Discover the Church of Saint Paul and Saint Louis before walking through the courtyard of the majestic Hotel de Sully. Continue experiencing the royal history of the Marais by exploring the pristine Place des Vosges, a public square with unparalleled beauty in Paris. Afterwards, move forward in time to learn all about the bustling Jewish community that put the Marais on the map through the 18th and 19th centuries. Wander the bakeries and boutiques of the Pletzl before strolling the shop-laden rue des Francs Bourgeois. All the while you’ll discover mansion after mansion, former homes to the nobility that once called the Marais home. Some are now museums, like the highly worthwhile Musée Carnavalet. The tour may also introduce you to both the Hotel de Ville, or City Hall, and the Pompidou Center, both architectural masterpieces from very different periods.
We will start our tour by visiting the 17th century St-Paul-St-Louis church, which was built by the Jesuits after a design inspired by that of the Gesù church in Rome.
We will then pass by the Hotel de Sully, a building built between 1624 and 1630. Designed by architects Jean 1er Androuet du Cerceau and Yves Boiret in the Renaissance style with Baroque elements, the construction of the hotel fits in a larger movement of monumental building in this part of Paris.
Next we will make our way to Place de Vosges, the oldest planned square in Paris. A stroll in the Marais without admiring Place des Vosges is like a walk on the Champs Elysees without seeing the Arc de Triomphe!
We will then walk along Rue des Francs Bourgeois, one of the longer and more interesting streets in the Marais district, known for being trendy with its numerous fashion boutiques.
Following on, you will see the Hôtel Carnavalet, one of the rare examples of Renaissance architecture in Paris, along with the Louvre’s square courtyard. Along with the Hotel Carnavalet, you will discover the Musée Carnavalet, a museum which highlights the Paris’ past and reveals the city’s diverse personality.
We will then walk along Rue des Rosières, a little street which lies at the center of the Jewish quarter.
Next you will see the Jardin des Rosiers, a little garden tucked between hotels and hidden behind boutiques. This hidden place is named to honor Jospeh Migneret, a school principal who helped dozens of students by hiding them in his home during WW2 and who was eventually arrested and killed.
Coming close to the end of your tour, you will make your way to the Centre Pompidou, the infamous contemporary museum known for its exterior that was designed in the style of high-tech architecture. The idea for this multicultural complex was to bring together different forms of art and literature in one place, as part of the ideas from France’s first Minister of Cultural Affairs.
We will end our tour at Hôtel de Ville, the building housing the city’s local administration. It has been the headquarters of the municipality of Paris since 1357.
Just next to Hôtel de Ville, you will catch a glimpse of the Église Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais, the first example of the French baroque style in Paris. A parish church until 1975, it is now the headquarters of the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem.

Insightful walk through Le Marais. There is a lot of history to the neighborhood- intriguing and tragic, all worth knowing. This is an ideal experience for getting to know the area. Alistair was a great guide! Highly recommend.
Informative and entertaining! Ad Alasdair was exceptional as a guide! 100% recommend
We had a wonderful tour with our local guide, Adrien. He has an impressive knowledge of Paris and its history, and he shared it in a very engaging and enjoyable way. Adrien was not only extremely knowledgeable, but also very friendly and pleasant to be around. He showed us sides of Paris and told us stories that we would never have discovered on our own. Thanks to him, we were able to experience the history of Paris in a much deeper and more memorable way. We truly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend Adrien to anyone wanting to discover Paris with a passionate and knowledgeable local guide. Highly recommended!
Super Guide. Highly recomended
Hugo was an amazing tour guide. We learned so much about the Marais district of Paris which was so interesting! He had a wonderful way of communicating facts and stories about the area. Whether you are Jewish or not, I highly recommend booking this tour.
Our guide Tomar was wonderful! Highly recommend the tour and if you have Tomar as your guide , you will find her full of good info, expressive and a true appreciation for Marais history and lifestyle.
Our tour of the Marais was the highlight of our visit to Paris. Alasdair (?) is an actor and he did not lecture -- he danced and pranced, did great impersonations, and kept us laughing non-stop. However, it was not all silliness - he is truly an expert on the area and had an answer for every question. We would follow him anywhere!!!
Learned a lot about the history of the Marais District through the years. Not too crowded on Sundaycam but got busy in the afternoon when the tour was ending. Tamar our guide was very personable and shared many stories..
Tamari was a wonderful guide. She gave us much background, had some cute stories, and generally made the 2 hours plus, go quickly. A good mixture of history and culture.
Tamar has expert knowledge of local history and explained everything in wonderful descriptive language. She is passionate about her subject and imparted that enthusiasm to us.
Adrien was the best guide we had in all of France. Passionate, knowledgeable, and a terrific communicator. And very patient and attentive to our needs and interests. Very highly recommended.
Alasdair Is knowledgeable and honestly one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. He is enthusiastic and just amazing. I feel fortunate To have had him as a tour guide.
Alisdaire was truly exceptional as a guide. The tour was informative, humorous and fun. The 2hrs 40 minutes flew by. There was historical information and discussion along with some pantomime and fun anecdotes. Highly recommend to take this tour with this guide
Alastair was AMAZING! We had the most magical tour with him- filled with so much history, fun facts and surprises! Couldn’t recommend this trip enough. He was wonderful and my favorite day of our trip!
Tamari was amazing, she was so knowledgeable. She answered all of our questions, no matter how off topic. I would highly recommend you take this excursion and ask for Tamari. The tour was a good balance between the community of Marais specifically and then the latter half, about the Jewish community and its history in the area.. Her familiarity with Jewish culture, history and the World War II experience of Jews in Paris opened my eyes to the experience of Jews in Paris
Our tour guide Tamar was knowledgeable, energetic and entertaining. We very much enjoyed listening her stories about Marais District and Jewish history.
We had a delightful walking tour through the Marais district this morning with our guide, Eden. She was very considerate and energetic. Her knowledge of the district was outstanding and her English was impressive. Eden was engaging beyond the usual expectations and left us with many recommendations for other points of interest. We would not hesitate to book another tour with her as our guide.
The Marais & Jewish community walking tour was absolutely fabulous…and so was our guide Tamari. She was attentive, personable, and oh so knowledgeable about the colorful history and culture of the Marais area….and she had wonderful stories to tell! Very highly recommend!

Florian was a great guide Very personable and knowledgeable
We had the most amazing guide Tamari and the tour was over the top great. I could have used 2 more hours. This was our favorite tour in Paris!!!
Florian was a very knowledgeable guide. His presentations were clearl with just the right amount of detail. It was a 2.5 hour walking tour and the time just flew by. Even though there were 11 people in our group we could all hear him well. He answered all questions clearly and I was sorry it was over. We had lunch at one of the restaurants he pointed out to us. The food and atmosphere were great. We would do the whole tour again
Entertaining, brilliantly informed
Alistair was an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly, and added a personal touch from his own experiences. Highly recommend.
Alasdair was excellent. A lot of hidden trivia in the streets
What a thoroughly enjoyable and educational tour led by Florian. I would take this tour again in a heartbeat. The tour covered all parts of the Marais. The tour group received a thorough, easily understood, yet detailed history of this beautiful section of Paris. Any additional questions tour members had about architecture, religion and general French history were answered with expertise. This is a must take tour. John G
This is an outstanding tour of the old Jewish section of Paris. You don’t need to be Jewish to enjoy this tour . Our Tour guide was very well versed in the history of Marais and how it relates to the entire history of Paris. Most importantly our guide loves what she does and it shows in her enthusiasm every moment of the tour. My wife and I love the expo.
Wonderful and educational experience! Florian was funny, knowledgeable, patient and sensitive to the impact of the stories he was telling about the historical treatment of Jews in Paris. Highly recommend!
Florian was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, personable and friendly. I would highly recommend this tour of Le Marais
The meeting point resulted in confusion for all 10 participants - everyone on this tour was given the incorrect meeting address in the booking. Happily everyone had enough time to sort out the ambiguity, and made it in time for the tour. A good reminder to arrive early in case of glitches in communication. Tamar provided interesting and historical information throughout our well paced tour.
Tamar was a terrific and knowledgeable guide who led a great tour filled with interesting sights and entertaining stories
A wonderful tour by Tamari She was informative and explained everything with compassion and humor where appropriate Would definitely recommend .

Maria was great! She had lots of great information, was easy to talk to, and moved at a great pace. Highly recommend!
On a return trip to Paris I wanted to learn more about the Marais, so I researched tours and selected this one because of the positive reviews. It exceeded my expectations. Florian is a knowledgeable, thoughtful guide who kept us entertained while covering the enthralling history of the area.
Florian G was an awesome guide. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Excellent overview of the Marais district. Hugo was friendly and informative. We learned how the area began and has changed.
Florian was an excellent guide. I really appreciate how he included stops most tours overlook and was so knowledgeable and friendly.
Eden did a fantastic job showing our family all around Le Marais. It was a very valuable trip for everyone from 9 -45
This was a very informative, fun tour. Georgia is like the Lucy Worsley of France! She has in-depth knowledge of the history, and presents it in a very dynamic, interesting way that keeps you fully engaged the entire way. You feel like you’re getting some inside information. She is also very respectful of the Jewish quarter and history of Jews in Paris. Recommend 10/10
