Wow what an introduction to Paris. Max was so knowledgeable. We learnt so much about French history and how it intersects with the modern day. Even had time for a quick sweet treat stop. We would highly recommend this tour with Max to anyone visiting Paris.

Itinerary
Join a local guide to discover the enigmatic charms of France’s capital on this enlightening Paris city tour. You’ll start your Paris tour in front of the Centre Pompidou, Europe's largest modern art museum, nestled in an impressive contemporary building.
Located in the heart of Paris and best-preserved medieval area in the Marais, le Marais is one of the most visited ones in Paris.
The Stravinsky Fountain is without any doubt the most one of the most photographed fountains. Do not miss to learn more about it and take some photos as well.
The townhall of Paris (Hôtel de Ville) is a quite remarkable building but also historically rich. This is on the esplanade in front of it that medieval executions were carried out and that the first beheading with the guillotine took place.
Pass by the Saint Gervais church just behind the square, getting a glimpse of the beautiful inside interiors. Then it’s time to fuel up with a sweet treat. You’ll be treated to something a little different – a delicious meringue known as a ‘merveilleux.’
Just a street away is Rue des Rosiers, the heart of the Jewish community. It’s a vibrant pedestrian street full of falafel stands and delicious Jewish-influenced delis.
From there we’ll move on to Paris’ oldest and certainly most beautiful square, la Place des Vosges, home of France’s national writer, Victor Hugo.
From there, it’s only a short walk to our final destination, La Place de la Bastille, the. This is former prison that was captured on July 14, 1789, triggering the French Revolution. The area nearby is full of bars and restaurants, leaving you with plenty of options for carrying on with your evening in the City of Lights!

We had a wonderful experience exploring Le Marais with Max! He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging, making the tour both informative and enjoyable. His extensive knowledge of the neighbourhood’s history, architecture, and cultural significance really brought the area to life. He shared fascinating stories and interesting historical details, and incorporated visuals throughout the tour that helped us better understand how Le Marais has evolved over time. Max kept the tour well paced and organized, allowing plenty of time to appreciate the neighbourhood, ask questions, and take in the sights without ever feeling rushed. He created a welcoming atmosphere and was always happy to share additional insights and answer questions. His enthusiasm for the area made the experience even more memorable. We learned so much and gained a deeper appreciation for the history and character of Le Marais. We highly recommend Max to anyone looking to explore this beautiful part of Paris!
Camilla was a cheerful, informative and fun guide on our Le Marais tour. We learned so much about the area, along with many little details that we wouldn’t have learned elsewhere. She showed us the big sites but also very small hidden gems. Definitely recommend!
Dry informative small group tour. Guide was excellent and full of information and history the area. Highly recommend!
Cecelia was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable of the local history and provided us with great food and experience recommendations. She was very accommodating of my dad in a wheelchair as well! Highly recommend
We have the best guide! Thank you so very much. She took us to the train and helped us on our next tour. We loved her.❤️
Max was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. We highly recommend this Marais tour, especially since it is in a very popular area and it was great to get some very interesting insights about its history.
Camila was a perfect fit for us. The small group size helped us to communicate clearly and her depth of knowledge was very helpful in understanding the history of Paris. We would normally just walk past sites and admire but with Camille, we saw the sites from a deeper perspective. I would not hesitate to recommend Intrepid and Camila friends and family.
Wonderful tour. Cecelia was very good
The tour was amazing! I learnt a lot about the history of Paris. The guide Camilla was very knowledgeable and passionate about the city and the merveilleux was a wonderful surprise treat along the way!
Camilla was very knowledgeable, engaging and relational. We had a great time!
Excellent guide. She was very accommodating to a booking error. We needed accesible and she made it work.
Very good tour and guide. The croissant was a delicious added bonus.
Max was absolutely wonderful he really brought the tour to life, we experienced rain and max worked around this with a coffee stop. It was also his birthday which he had given up for our tour.
Max was incredible, full of knowledge and answered all questions. Thank you and happy birthday max!
Max was an amazing tour guide and we saw the best of Paris with this tour.
Camilla was an incredible guide and was more of a friend guiding us through the neighborhood than a tour operator. We loved her passion for what we were experiencing and would highly recommend her for any experience. She made our visit to Montmarte memorable. Thanks again.
Le Marais was quite an interesting area and Cecelia did a great job explaining everything.
Silvana was excellent!!! Great tour guide, so lovely and knowledgeable
Silvania was out tour guide. Knowledgeable, very friendly Great experience
I took those tour with Cecilia the same day I landed from California and it was the absolute best decision. She showed me parts of Paris I definitely would have missed and was knowledgeable and funny! If you like history, architecture, and getting the lay of the land this tour is for you. I feel ready to explore for the rest of my trip.
Thanks Max great guide with a lot of knowledge
The guide, Max was great. He was extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful. It was one of the best walking tours I have taken. Covered a lot of ground and history in the 2 hours.
This was a big experience for me as my great grandmother lived in this neighbourhood before moving to the US. Was amazing to walk the sane boulevards that she once did, and learn more about Jewish life in Paris.
We enjoyed our tour of Marais’ medieval sites very much with Cecilia. She was very enthusiastic about the different aspects of the architecture, and also very helpful in advising us on current places to explore, eat and shop.
Our tour guide, Lou, was excellent. She was knowledgeable and attentive. The pace of the tour was perfect for both an experienced traveler and elderly first-time visitor to Paris.
Excellent tour. Historical and informative.
This walking tour of Marais in Dec 2025 was very enjoyable - my host was Cecilia and I was her only guest, so it turned out to be a private tour! She had the best energy, knew so much information and we had a great few hours walking around the arrondissement, chatting and learning about the history. Such a beautiful district to explore and Cecilia made the experience enjoyable. Highly recommended... especially the sweet treat you get on the tour. Delectable!
This was an excellent tour led by Max. He was very knowledgeable and engaging. We especially appreciated his enthusiasm and willingness to answer questions. Highly recommend!
Had Celine as a tour guide. She took us through several neighborhoods and gave us just the right balance of history and culture, mixed with her favorite recommendations of restaurants, bakeries, etc. Definitely noticed details about the city I would have never on my own.
Max was excellent. He showed us around the area and told us lots of history and local tips. He was very knowledgeable and interesting. We also enjoyed the patisserie snack!
We had a great afternoon with Max Tineo. He was an informative guide with lots of information and anecdotes about the area and especially the art with his own background as an artist. He was very relaxed and happy to answer questions and do something with humour and knowledge. The area is quirky and we got lots out of it by being guided round the hidden streets and courtyards of the area. Would recommend
This tour was ok but not exceptional. We decided to do the tour because we were staying in the Marais area. The tour guide was lovely but a bit hampered by the fact that the group was largish and included individuals who didn’t have the fitness to keep up with the pace. The content of the tour was adequate but I’ve done other walking tours and I’d say this one was quite superficial.
Benoit was a super guide and really brought out the history and culture of the Marais as home to some of the only parts of medieval Paris remaining. His presentation style was easy to understand, and he really brought the area to life. We had never been to the Marais and highly recommend this tour. Loved it!
Camila is a wonderful guide — passionate about every corner of Paris. She took us through hidden details of the city, showing us street art, explaining the architecture of the buildings, and always telling us the stories behind them. She even shared fascinating facts about the trees — from fig and quince to linden and the elm tree in front of Saint-Gervais. We also learned quirky history like the old window tax, ground tax. She made Paris come alive in such a unique way!
Super highly recommended if you want a tour that feels personal, insightful and genuinely enjoyable, this is the one! The small group size made it feel very personalized, yet interactive at the same time. A lot of this had to do with our guide, Camila. She was truly outstanding; always attentive, making sure everyone was comfortable, sharing fascinating stories and insights you wouldn’t normally find in a guidebook, and presenting each place from her own personal perspective, inviting us to really observe and enjoy it. We visited incredible spots, learned so much history and hidden details, and even got to try a “merveilleux” treat along the way. Merciii ✨
A big thank you to Benoit who was my tour guide today (and just mine! I felt rather spoiled) and as other reviews mention an absolute fountain of information. There was no question he couldn't answer and his passion and interest for Paris and its history was lovely. If you prefer to explore on foot and see a city the way its locals see it you will enjoy this tour. If you have a sweet tooth you will also very much enjoy the delicious little pastry treat partway through - although you'll be tempted to come back for 10 more.
Maxi was a great tour guide! He had so much information and history about the neighborhood, he brought it to life. Highly recommend!
The guide was good but there was nothing in the tour that we couldn’t have done ourselves. It was quite dull with a lot of standing. We honestly felt it was a waste of money. No content in this tour.
There happened to be some cancellations…so lucky for me, I got a private tour with Benoit. He was a true delight giving me the lay of the land of le Marais neighborhood. He was extremely knowledgeable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I would highly recommend Benoit.
Benoît was amazing ! He was friendly and clear and organized and he knew volumes about the history of Le Marais. I don’t know that I have ever had guide who added so much to my trip.
A very knowledgeable Sarah gave us an interesting tour of Le Marais and the Jewish quarter. This included buildings from Roman times and a very moving memorial of Jewish suffering. The tour ended at Bastille, where she again engaged us with her thorough knowledge of French history.
We had a fabulous tour with Paloma. She was friendly, knowledgeable and informative but also great fun. She answered our questions and responded well to what we were particularly interested in. The tour was just what we wanted, key highlights but also unusual places off the beaten track. 5 stars - highly recommended
If you are lucky enough to have Paloma as your guide then you are pretty much guaranteed a great time. There were only three of us on our tour (plus Paloma) and so that made the tour even better as well. Paloma showed us many interesting sites and did not hurry us at all, allowing time for photographs where needed. Paloma''s local knowledge was clear to see and the tour was well worth the money we paid.
My group of four booked a small group tour, which (lucky for us) turned out to be a private tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant, sharing all sorts of local insights regarding history, architecture, and food. We'll come back and do another tour with Paloma someday!
A special thanks to Paloma, our guide, for enabling us to discover some very interesting historical sites. The histories and events were well explained and the group was captivated from the beginning to the end of the visit. A definite recommendation. Carla Brihante
we had an excellent private tour of the Marais. this was our second tour of the Marais and were surprised by the changes in the past 10 years. our guide was very informative regarding the history of the Marais as well as its current dynamics. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wishing to learn more about the neighborhoods of Paris past and present.
Palomino was our guide. She had extensive knowledge of Marais and kept our interest all the time Very good value for money.
Linda was lovely and well informed about the area. The tour was very interesting and took us to very old parts of Paris off the tourist trail. Old church and hidden gardens were a highlight
Great tour mixing history with current vibe. Excellent pastry stop. Guide was kind and knowledgeable.
