Great time! Very informative. Guide was wonderful! (This website has failed to allow me to complete this survey 4 times)
We stay in the neighborhood and never noticed this before. This was fantastic. Our host Pierre basically taught us all about how cheese is made, its history, techniques and kinds of French cheese. Ended with a cheese tasting. We learned a ton and had a great time.
This was such an informative and fun experience to include in your trip to Paris. Not our first cheese class but Michael was a great guide - we learned so much more about one of our favorite foods than we previously knew. Highly recommend.
This was a very enjoyable museum experience. Tomas was very knowledgeable about cheeses and taught about cheese making and the history in both French and English. The cheese tasting towards the end was also great.
Very fun, only one hour but i learned a lot. The museum is small but many interesting things to learn from the tour.
Very fun and informative. Very much enjoyed learning the history of cheese making. The goat cheese at the tasting was our favorite!!!
Agatha was absolutely amazing and everything we learnt was super interesting. Getting to taste the cheese was a big plus and I have left with a brand new appreciation for cheese and cheese making
This is a tour that was fun and educational all at once. The Museum itself is very small and upon arrival you're really just inside a gourmet cheese shop. However, the museum part has tons of information and even educational videos and interactive exhibits. My kids really enjoyed it and my husband especially liked hearing from our guide (I think his name may have been Gabriel?). He conducted the tour in both English and French, which I think could have been better if he had just done it in one or the other (because he has to say everything twice, and makes the event longer). It was very warm inside, I'm not sure if that's intentional for the cheeses. The best part of course was the cheese tasting. It was very fun to try the different cheeses and learning about the history and making of cheese. I would recommend this but be prepared-the cheese tasting is at the very end of the tour. We ended buying a couple of our favorites and they were great!
The instructor was very personable and gave a very comprehensive class on cheeses. I thought it was well worth the time.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, We learnt alot about where it comes from how it is made: very enjoyable, we even got to try the cheeses which wasn’t my cup of tea. But the rest of our group loved it!
So much fun! Very informative and we got to each cheese! Even some stinky cheese. The English tour was really solid!
Brilliant visit, my husband and I enjoyed this visit. Lovely team of people. Recommend visiting especially if also visiting notre dame cathedral as it is close by. Thank you
Fascinating experience. I learned a lot about cheese making and the regions in France. The tasting was delicious & adding the glass of wine makes it even better!!
Great way to spend 1.5 hours in Paris! Tour guide was really informative, very funny and knowledgable. Great tasting, cute museum, very welcoming atmosphere, would definitely recommend!
Interesting tour explaining the process of cheese making and the different kinds of cheese from different regions of France. Our guide was one of the cheese makers and really knew the information well. Different but cool.
Really interesting experience to learn everything about cheese (history, origins, varieties, production process, etc)… and the instructor is very funny and knowledgeable (Agathe)
I knew a lot about cheese before attending, but I learned even more at the museum. It is a very small museum but the tour guides give a lot of good information— you can also read most of the information in the folders they pass out at the beginning of the tour. We did the tasting with wine and recommend the white wine.
Having spent a few days as a tourist in Paris, visiting the Cheese Museum was a surprising highlight! Away from the touristy hotspots, this beautiful little museum down an unassuming side street on Ile Saint-Louis was a great way to spend an afternoon. Guillaume, the extremely passionate guide stepped the group through the history and fundamentals of cheese making: young vs mature, hard vs soft as well as the overarching methods of maturation and how these alter the characteristics of taste and texture. We got to try cheeses they make and sell on site, as well as other interesting cheeses to compare to (including one that had a faint aftertaste of pineapple!) If you like food and if you like cheese, this is a no-brainer visit! I wish this independent venture all the future success.
Amazing one hour tour to learn and taste different fromages . Our guide Guillaume was the epitome of a French cheesemonger, knowledgeable, welcoming and with a good sense of humor. He LOVES his cheeses . We loved our tour and learned quite a bit about regions and different cheeses. Good and reasonable price and for and extra €5 you can add a glass of wine to enjoy your cheese tasting. We will recommend this place to our friends and family when they are in Paris .
Wonderful experience! Learn all about the making of French cheese by an awesome cheese maker. The museum is fantastic. Tasting included. Not expensive. Small and intimate setting. Leaves you wanting to know and eat more cheese! A must do activity
We randomly discovered this tour and museum in an advertisement and very glad we did! Guillaume spent time detailing our the cheese making process and history in France, with some tasty cheese a long the way, with the option to pair with wine. Great museum and gadgets to interact with. Highlight was tasting a cheese he makes in real time, or shows how it’s made at different stages, very tasty! Worth checking out.
It was a lovely experience. The guide was charming and informative. The museum had interesting equipment and interactive displays that were highly instructive. The tasting was marvelous! I recommend wholeheartedly!
Really interesting and great guide. Cheese was delicious. Gift shop was also really nice. The guide was really knowledgeable and friendly.
What a fun and informative experience. You can tell Pierre loves his craft. Definitely recommend. Tasting the various cheeses was amazing.
Fantastic! Great for cheese loving family. My kids want to make cheese when we get home. Price was great too and instructor kept kids engaged (even my anti-cheese daughter). I would try the full wine pairing next time. You can take a quiz to determine your cheese type and how to properly cut cheese. Very informative.
SO VERY DISAPPOINTING! We never got a "live demonstration of cheese making" and our host was nice, but just an inexperienced intern, who made the whole experience boring. It was a waste of over 30 Euro per person. I noticed that some of the glass domes encasing the cheeses had a big opening in the sides. I asked about this, and the intern replied that these glass domes were "broken". To store cheeses properly, and to present to the paying customer, why display your cheeses in this manner? We ordered a "glass of wine" for 5 Euros each, but the pour was not a glass, only a mere taste. I do NOT recommend this "cheese museum" to anyone. Look for a more authentic institution.
The gentleman Guillaume gave a very interesting presentation! He was knowledgeable and personable! He was engaging, fun and courteous! The map of cheeses was very educational and fun. Pressing a button next to a cheese would show you where the cheese was from and also from what animal. There was also a fun quiz to take to find out what kind of cheese you were. You can also buy cheeses and other products from the boutique! I think student groups would really enjoy that, especially if they take French in school but honestly it is great for everyone. Highly recommend.
We were disappointed in this experience due to the lack of preparation and the overall way the tour was conducted. Firstly, the museum component of the tour was extremely basic, secondly the cheese making process was unable to be shown due to not having any milk at the time. There was no format for the talk with the cheesemaker, people were turning up at all different times, there was not enough cheese for the tasting and the cheesemaker was ill prepared. The only positive was the cheeses that were sampled were lovely.
This was a fascinating trip around the cheese museum learning all about cheese making. The host was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. Experience was around one hour. We got to sample three types of cheese. Personally I think the experience was a little overpriced and it would have been helpful to have somewhere to sit as an hour standing became a little uncomfortable for me.
Quite by serendipity we stumbled upon this Paris treasure while walking from Notre Dame back to our hotel. Odd that the highlight of our trip to France was not one of our planned stops but rather this entirely unplanned and unexpected stop. The initial museum portion is interesting and thoughtfully assembled but the real attraction was the cheesemaking demonstration and explanations and, of course, the cheese tasting. And these were not 'tour quality' cheeses but were among the very best cheeses which we've found in France. As befits the serious cheese shop which fronts this location. Agathe, our tour guide and cheesemaker, was an absolute treat. At EUR20 this experience is seriously underpriced.
This was very informative. Also accessible for a Wheelchair as ramps were provided and nothing was too much trouble. The whole display was also accessible. Real cheese making happened in front of you and it explained not only the process but why the French are so particular about their cheese.
A perfect balance of boutique-like museum with a cheese making section. The tour and demonstration were wonderful! The cheese maker (I forgot his name) was delightful, effortlessly switching between French and English depending on the audience. The cheese samples ran the gamut of styles from mild to stinky. Don’t fear the stinky cheese, it was fantastic!
A pitty that the tour didn’t take place. After being paid and confirmed for a few days, we got there 20 mins prior just to find out that the museum was closed… hope all of you get better luck.
Fun and different experience. The cheese monger really knows what he is doing. You get a brief lesson on how cheese is made and then get to sample or buy at the end.
Our guide was one of the founders and you could feel his passion. So much knowledge. Loved it! Can’t wait to try their chews making classes!!! Highly recommended if you like cheese. Don’t expect a huge museum, it is a couple of rooms super interesting and lots of fun facts!
This was an excellent tour. We learned a wealth of information about the history cheese and the cheese making process. Highly recommended for folks who want to learn about French culture.
Fun spot to learn a bit about cheeses and taste a few! I loved the interactive cheese making process board and tasting samples! My favourite part was doing the quiz what kind of cheese are you!
I had remembered this while my husband and I were figuring out what to do today, so we decided to go….I just thought it was a do it yourself museum but when I got there it wasn’t but we lucked out and were there in time for the next group….um…reserve ahead, don’t be like me and apparently I did not read well at all. The man who greeted us was so nice and explained stuff to us and said he had room for us. I am not sure how big of a group they do and if there is a max. We were let in the waiting area and there was stuff to read about cheese and a “interactive” map of France. We had a nice time waiting for others and talking to people too. Our guide came and we started our tour. Very knowledgeable about cheese..(cheese is a food group…just my opinion). We learned a lot. In one area, there were cheeses under a cloche, oh man when he opened them….that gorgeous smell of cheese. Then he went and got samples of a few types of cheeses (4)…YUM! He also told us about each one. After that we were asked if there were any questions and allowed to look at information on the walls. I loved our time there, my husband did too and well of course we loved the tasting! Highly recommended.
The Living Museum of Cheese was incredible! I saw this museum when I planned my trip to Paris in July, and knew we had to go. We paid €20 per person for a full guided tour in English. There were only four attendees on the tour, so it was personalized to our countries of origin and tastes. I can’t remember our tour guide’s name (he was Italian), but he was so excited to share the process of cheese making with us. He encouraged questions and interaction with the exhibits. The tasting was great, we got to try cow, sheep, and goat milk cheese with a variety of hardness and rinds. The shop had a huge variety of cheese you could take home, including the ones from the tasting. This was a great experience and I recommend it to anyone that has an hour to spare or wants to learn more about cheese!
Excellent excursion - it was expertly presented, informative and great value for cost. We would recommend the experience to anyone with an interest in cheese. Accessible location, friendly staff and well equipped premises.
Eleanor, our cheese master, was incredibly informative and entertaining. Delicious samples as well! A must see for lovers of cheese.
We visited this small museum and learnt that it had only been open for a couple of weeks. I truly hope and believe that it will be a success. In our small group of four we took one of their English language tours and learned so much about the history and process. Our guide, Evangelina?) was enthusiastic, through and entertaining, welcoming and answering numerous questions about cheese culture and etiquette. It's only a small museum but well worth a visit. It costs €20 per person, takes a hour (and we could easily have stayed longer talking about the subject) and includes a tasting of three cheeses. At the front of the museum element, there is a stunning cheese counter where you can buy your favourites, irrespective of whether or not you take the tour experience. These people LOVE their cheeses with a passion and enthusiasm that is so refreshing. I wish them every success and will recommend others to give it a visit. Bon chance!
An excellent experience led by staff who are passionate and very knowledgable about cheese and the making process. They tailored the trip to what you wanted to know and our guide spoke excellent English - and was interested in English cheeses and our tastes. They make cheese on the premises and showed the initial process There is an excellent shop (which is accessible to all) with a mind blowing selection of cheeses to buy. Unfortunately our travel arrangements prevented us from purchasing. We would recommend the experience for all who love cheese - as we do!
Very close to the cathedral, mini museum (2 pieces) that exhibits instruments and objects in the world of cheese. As well as ads and an interactive map of France. In the second room, a cheesemaker gives us some explanations about the making (which are also in a small lent fascicle at the entrance) and we could taste 4 different small pieces of cheese. 25€ the entrance (20€ without the glass of wine), it is a little (too) expensive anyway. Too bad because the concept is fun
The Musee has only two rooms., there was no proof of manufacture or explanation of manufacture, just the tasting which was certainly very friendly but which I had trouble grasping being very hard of hearing.I found the price of 20€ and 17€ handicapped a little expensive for 50 minutes.
Another group was able to benefit from explanations about cheese making, made locally by the expert who supervises this place, passionate since his youth not very far away by the multiple ways of processing the milk of various mammals. We did not have time, participating in a game (not organized by the museum) that led us to examine precisely everything on display. I particularly appreciated the use of current technologies to present, interactively and visually, a very traditional activity: cheese making. The animator cheesemaker invited us, at the end, to a tasting of four cheeses, one of which Swiss and excellent. I'm sorry the last one was a Roquefort, a little too strong. Some of my friends would have liked a piece of bread with the cheese samples, especially Saint-Marcellin, very good but runny. I missed a glass of wine. I'll try the Norman fondue, the recipe for which was given to us.
the conference was very interesting, well led by Constance, who listened to her audience and presented the material or the different types of cheese making with a lot of pedagogy; the cheeses to taste were excellent; I think this visit is suitable for any audience from 8 years old.
The visit was very pleasant and recommended. The gentleman explains the whole cheese process, the possible ways to make cheese and its process until we eat it... Highly recommended. The tasting, exquisite and if you want to buy cheeses at their cheese shop then you get discounted. Very positive.
Very good experience. The cheesemaker was very pedagogical and both passionate and exciting. The tasting was perfectly conducted. The only disappointment is that the cheese they produce is not available for sale.
