My 10 year old daughter and I took this class and it was mediocre to say the least. The pastry chef mostly demonstrated as we observed. We took turns squeezing the shell out of a premixed bag as a group. For our own macarons, the shells were premade and we mixed the filling with pre-measured ingredients. Overall, the class was a bit boring. However, don’t miss Galleries Lafayette with great shopping, its amazing stained glass roof, incredible rooftop sign and amazing view.
Our instructor was informed and good with the kids. Unfortunately, the Galeries Lafayette did not provide any direction on how to find the class (which was in an obscure location), and the staff did not know how to help. Some seemed irritated with the question. As a result, many families were late. One even missed half of the class. This seems like an easy fix. Hopefully, the Galeries will provide updated and specific directions for families.
This experience was just OK. Kids made filling for macaroon. A lot of class was observing vs. doing! We enjoyed other activities at Gallery Lafayette after class - glass walk, rooftop, and souvenir shopping on the 7th floor!
The whole experience was amazing. All of us enjoyed it a lot. Heard about its history but when we had the experience we felt that as a first timer visitor we are happy.
The instructor was just ok, definitely does not specialize in children and this is not a child specific class. This was expensive for what it was- they do not even offer a separate set of macarons for the parent(s), so paying $60 per adult to supervise your own child for an hour while they mix butter for 10 minutes is absolutely excessive. $150 for 6 mediocre macarons - not worth it.
A highlight of our trip! The chef was amazing. Great with the kids and made everything look easy. Our macarons were better than Laduree!
We purchased tickets for 2 adults and 3 children thinking we would all get to make macaroons for the price we paid. Only the kids got to participate and they only got to mix the filling for the macaroons and nothing else. Very hard to find and no one in the Galleries knew anything about the class or where to go. Definitely would not recommend.
We attended the class as a family of four. The instructor demonstrated making the exterior of a macaron and offered guests a chance to pipe one shell. Then we were supplied with previously cooked shells and we were able to mix a few ingredients to make the filling for two types of macarons. My children seemed to enjoy it. I thought it was too expensive for not making the whole macaron.
Not worth the money for how little we actually “baked”. Expensive price tag to stand and watch the instructor make the macarons. She was super knowledgeable and nice, however the class should be long enough that attendees can actually measure ingredients and *bake*. We “assembled” four macarons which consisted of taking a whisk and mixing pre measured ingredients and then putting the filling on the two halves. Super hard to find the place. Go elsewhere unless you like paying a lot for little value.
We attended this class with 2 adults and 3 kids. It was a perfect introduction to making macarons. The instructor was very knowledgeable and great with the kids.
There is no baking in this class it’s watching, with pre/backed macarons. All we did was mix. We attended class at the end of the day at 5pm. We felt the instructor did not want to be there. I’m sure there are more authentic and interactive classes around.
Bought 4 tickets, 2 adults, 2 children, and only the 2 kids were allowed to participate. I asked twice for 4 place settings and was told no, so we'll be charging a portion of this back to our credit card as we didn't receive the services paid for. In addition, the woman's English was not great and she was very soft spoken, made it nearly impossible to understand her. Overall very disappointing
What a fun experience for our whole family. Very glad we took time to do this and we learned how to make macarons at home!
Nearly perfect EXCEPT when we arrived with our confirmed paid reservation for 6 they only showed a reservation for 5, therefore we were not able to participate.
Instructor was very knowledgeable and good with the children. Appreciated all of her tips, tips that I'll apply to baking overall.
The workshop is not really a workshop, it's more like a demostration of how to make the macaron meringue. The girl who runs it is lovely, but the experience in itself - we thought - is not really worth the money. The hands-on experience is mixing the filling and filling up 2 macarons each. My daughter thought it was dissapointing that for 2 people (1 adult and 1 child) we got 8 round cookies, so basically 4 macarons. We wrongly thought that a macaron contains both cookies :). The good thing is that we got the receipe.
The chef was so friendly, cheerful, and informative. She was excellent with children and with adults.
Wonderful presentation wonderful baker. Thought she spoke more french than necessary as it was an English class. The Quebecers in class likely spoke English. But it was wonderFul
It was so much fun. The instructor was excellent and so knowledgeable. The kids enjoyed it as much as I did. The only thing was that the location was hard to find.
I was very disappointed with this experience. I purchased eight tickets however, only four people were able to participate. Scam??? And you don’t actually make the macaron you are told how it’s made and you watch her make the dough for the cookie but then she gives you a shell to use so there’s really no cooking involved except for mixing of some butter and sugar for the inside. With that being said it is horrible that I purchased eight tickets and only four people were able to mix the icing. It was a waste of time and money and I do not recommend this experience. I have seen other more expensive ones and they probably are worth the money.
Caroline was great with my kids and we all had a fun time. Caroline, was very personable and great with all ages- and we had a sweet treat to take home :)
I bought this class for my 10 year old and my Mom and we all loved it! This is one of the best things we did in Paris!! Go to concierge upon arriving at Galleries Laffeyette for directions to apartment. The apartment is beautiful! Great environment. Caroline is fantastic with kids and adults alike!
This class was very fun and great for families and small children. Though there was not enough time to actually make our own macarons, our teacher made the shells and had some of the kids come up and help. Instead of having to let them set and bake which would take up a lot of our time, we received pre-made shells. We were also able to pipe some macarons with different shapes which was really fun. The teacher baked them and gave them to us at the end of the class to take home. She also advised us to wait until the next day to eat them. My family did wait and the texture and taste was indeed a lot better than it was the day before. In the class we made pistachio and chocolate macarons with ganache as the filling. Everyone in the class also received a recipe with the exact measurements so we could replicate them whenever we wanted. Our teacher was very helpful and gave us a lot of tips and tricks for making macarons and keeping our kitchen space clean. Thankfully, she also showed us what tools we should use to best recreate the delicious cookies perfectly. We all enjoyed the class a lot and would definitely recommend this to any family that loves baking together.
Caroline, la chef pâtissière, était tout simplement extra! L’activité était agréable et bien rodee. Plein d’infos intéressantes et des bons macarons à rapporter!
I was shocked with how huge it is and with its construction, it looks like a palace, there are the top brands, most of the products are very expensive, although there are also affordable prices in some areas. It has a great lunch, and the terrace is amazing the view it has and how well you look at the Eiffel Tower.
All fantastic attention to detail, in the French department store we admired the large cupola. An architectural masterpiece of great value, you can not help but be impressed. You can even play and hop high in the center of the dome on a trampoline, which will take your breath away. On the shops nothing to say there is only to contemplate ........ and being able, even buy....
