I regularly book my excursions through Viator when traveling, but this experience was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. We booked a specific time slot, only to arrive and be told that the attraction was closed due to a private event. We were instructed to return after 8:00 p.m., which was not possible because we had other reservations scheduled. There was no advance notice of the closure, and our confirmed reservation was not honored. This was a frustrating waste of our time and completely avoidable with proper communication and scheduling.

Itinerary
A unique viewpoint. From the top of the panoramic terrace, your eyes sweep over the whole of Paris. The revisited Antiquity. Architect Jean-François Chalgrin was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus in a single arch, but went beyond it by exceptional dimensions (about 50 m high, 45 m long and 22 m wide) and abandoning columns. A key place of major national events. Wanted by Napoleon in 1806, the Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated in 1836 by French king, Louis-Philippe, who dedicated it to the armies of the Revolution and the Empire. The Unknown Soldier was buried at the base of the arch in 1921. The flame of remembrance is rekindled every day at 18:30.

Had a wonderful time with my daughter exploring Paris and this was one of our favorite! Be ready to climb several stairs up a spiral staircase but well worth the climb! So many beautiful views of the city!
The arc was closed for the day. We were not notified about this. Very disappointing. And a lot of walking
Great view! Very interesting perspective atop the arch.
Arc de Triump elevator was out of service and my family member with me is 80 years old who couldn’t climb over 200 steps up. A refund was not optional which is horrible! The view was cool but if the facility can’t handle disabilities than a refund should be given!
We did not have to wait in any line. Got right in and went right to the top. Went later in the night and got to see the Eiffel Tower light up from the top! Was amazing
I don’t usually have negative comments about experiences through viator but the communication was hard with this one. There is nothing special about this. You can go to each place and purchase tickets at lower cost. This does not include any guide. Just instructions on how to get to the Arc. It needed to include name of Boat for cruise. Didn’t realize until hours of trying to figure it out, that there was a link at bottom of email. When I tried to contact the person, no one was available. I did appreciate the communication of needing to change date visit due to Pope visit. Save money and visit these place on your own
Had fast entry, climb to the top a hard slog but totally worth it. No guide or audio but not really needed - YouTube for history on the monument if u need to.
Great view from the top. Can see 360 degree view of Paris.
The signage to take the tunnel and get to the site is not well explained. Signage in the tunnel is also confusing to understand what line to get into. We had a bit of trouble downloading our tickets at the site, despite having no issue earlier when we tested. The lady who was scanning tickets had an instruction sheet for Viator and we finally got the tickets downloaded to the phone. It was a bit nerve racking holding the line. Also, the elevator was not working and we had to walk up 200 stairs to go up to the first level, and another 80 stairs to reach the terrace. It was a very warm day and physically challenging. I had to stop several times and felt claustrophobic with barely any room for people to get by me in the staircase. We had no clue if we would be reimbursed if we did not take the tour due to the elevator being broken. Hence why I gave it a rating of 3. Loved the history, the meaning of the site and wonderful views. Would not recommend if medical challenges and elevator not working.
1. the ticket is more than 2x the price vs a direct purchase at the Arc De Triomphe ticket counter. 2. worse yet, the ticket/barcode sent by Viator was not valid when checked by security personnel at the entrance. maybe it isn’t a scam but for sure i paid for a ticket that couldn’t be used. 3. absolutely do not recommend purchasing tickets from Viator. i would like a refund.
We had a great experience visiting the Arc de Triomphe with these tickets. Everything worked exactly as promised — we walked right in, skipped the long lines, and went straight up to the top. The whole process was easy, and we felt like very prepared travelers as we walked past everyone waiting in line! The views were absolutely worth it. I would definitely recommend booking this way.
No guide showed up at the meeting place. We went in on our own and did not get the tour we paid for. Very unsatisfactory and very unprofessional
Hard to find the underground entry when lots of people around. Walk on the right hand side of the Champs Elleysee with the Arc on front of you. Right before the road is a red sign on the underground entrance.
If you need to take the lift, I would buy the ticket that day. After my morning and jet lag, I didn’t feel like walking up the stairs. I am not sure what the value is of buying this timed ticket for the lift. The prior reviews hinted at this problem. I didn’t take it seriously enough. My other experiences with Viator -guided and unguided- have been excellent. I will definitely try to get to the top again.
Beautiful view of Paris from the top. The elevator was broken so we had to take the stairs. Thankfully you can take your time.
This was a nifty way to get into the Arc de Triomphe. Warning in September 2026 - the elevator was broken. But if you’re willing to climb a 280-step spiral staircase (there are little coves every so often if you need to stop), the view is very worth it!
Our tickets were very difficult to find and the meeting location was vague and not locatable. No one was there and no warning the lift was out.
My ticket was for 7.30pm. I arrived at 5.30pm they told me to come back at the right time (fair enough). When I came back at 7.30 there was a notice stuck to the door saying the monument was closed. No explanation, no nothing.
We had a 8pm entry, and we were looking forward to watching the Eiffel Tower light up and sparkle. Just after the sun went down and the Eiffel Tower started to gradually begin to light up, the staff at the Arc closed the rooftop to the disappointment of everyone on the rooftop. They began ushering everyone out and people became visibly angry and annoyed several saying this is extremely unfair! This was not the experience I paid for and someone should be accountable for this!
the iconic arc de triomphe is a must-see while in paris. looking around and up at it is truly humbling. so much history and beauty. it’s utterly phenomenal! the climb up was a bit rough and i was not looking forward to it but thankfully it went relatively fast. once we got to the second level, we were able to rest for a bit before continuing up to the top which was a short climb up. the view atop is MAGNIFICENT! all of paris laid out right before our eyes. it just took my breath away. we were able to walk around and look at the city from all sides of the tower. the best part is since it is a self-guided tour, you can stay as long as you like. it wasn’t terribly crowded the day i visited and was able to take some amazing photographs. overall, an amazing experience and i’m so glad we went! if you have the opportunity, you should go. you will not regret it!
The lift has been out of service, so you need to be fit enough to climb almost 300 stairs. The view was worth it, but in the summer heat, it could be a problem for some.
Overall, a great experience. Fantastic panoramic views of the city, exactly as described. We arrived early and were able to use our reserved entry tickets nearly 2hours before the allotted time. I’m glad we did too because when leaving at our original entry time (12 midday) the queue to get in was horrendously long. Booking with Tripadvisor worked out a little more expensive as we booked for 2 adults & 2 children totalling ~ £70, had we paid on the gate the cost would’ve been €22 for each adult with free entry for the children. If booking again, I’d go direct to the Arc de Triomphe website for peace of mind to have the reserved entry or would turn up before midday when it gets busy and pay on the gate.
The Arc de Triomphe is a must see…..this was not a guided tour, which was OK. we could not find a tour package for just the Arc..,,so we added a Seine tour, before realizing the meeting points were over a mile apart. We were exhausted after climbing to the top of the Arc, so we skipped the second part of the tour.
Very disappointed to find the lift out of order. 300 odd steps for an older person not very good idea. Expensive exercise.
Great tour that we really enjoyed. Was a great experience and very enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
Wonderful guide and beautiful day, went at 5:00 and area was quite busy
The while experience was amazing.
My ticket did not work. I had to pay a second time.
The day that I booked was one of the hottest days in Paris. When I arrived, saw that the elevator to the top was out of order so only the stairs were available. The stairs were a spiral staircase and by the time I got to the first resting point, I was so dizzy and felt sick. I did not continue to the top, which was unfortunate because that was what I had paid for. When I went down the spiral staircase, I was even dizzier and wound up needing paramedic assistance because of my elevated heart rate, dehydration, and dizziness. If possible, I would love a refund for my ticket. Viator should work closely with the Arc de Triomphe and make it known whether only the stairs or elevator will be accessible at the time people want to tour. This was a waste of my money because I could not enjoy it.
I ordered the timeslot of 2:50 PM and received the ticket. It was from 11 AM to 11 PM with my time slot reserved. We got there about an hour early. They let us in and we walked right to the top. We didn’t have to wait for our assigned time so it worked out perfect
Great views! Easy to get to. Easy to check in! Not too difficult to climb stairs but if you are afraid of confined spaces & have difficulty in climbing stairs, you may want to skip because lift was out of order.
Good tour but very expensive for what you got
Excellent views! Easy entry with reservation ticket.
Was not able to use the bar code you sent me. Not happy as was cheated. Not a good experience would not recommend you for this tout.
The instructions said we could go any time between 11am-11pm. We arrived at 11:09 to find out it was closed for the day for the Tour de France. We were notified at 11:23 that it was closed. They knew for DAYS what the Tour de France’s route would be. Why wasn’t I notified sooner. I wasted precious time in Paris plus money for an Uber. Terrible communication.
Lots of issues. Booked originally for 6pm on the 26th July - then changed to 12pm due to Le Tour de France ( not agents fault ) Then arrived at L’Arc de Triomphe on time to be told it was closed all day and always is when the Tour de France is in Paris Whole process wasn’t smooth had to chase advisor a few times for tickets and confirmations
A lot of stairs to climb. This activity specifically, the tickets were given by a link to a Google Drive doc that contains the ticket barcodes. The Viator ticket that can be added to Apple Wallet is not the one to use.
Great experience! Just know it’s a self guided tour. It was better to buy through Viator though because I was able to skip the line for tickets and waiting to go up to the top. Very cool, I would do it again but I do with there was something more to help with the history other than what is posted in the Arc.
This was a nice experience, just a ticket no tour. I enjoyed touring the Arc to areas the end of the day, there was fewer people.
Our tour was cancelled the day of the tour July13th because Bastille day fireworks. What a disgrace they managed to tell me use some other time even though we were on a one day layover. Don't ever book this trip. They cancelled. Will cancel the credit card charge
We did the non guided tour, the 277 stairs to the top is well worth it, the view of the city and landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower is great from up there
Lift is out of order. Make sure you can confidently climb lots of stairs! Very beautiful view! Good historic monument.
We spent $40 on the taxi to get to the arc and when we arrived we found out it had closed 3 hours ago and we were never notified so we spent another $40 on a taxi to get back and never got to go inside. How do I get a refund or rescheduled for this morning?
A wonderful view! The best part of the trip to Paris! Tickets were sent quickly and had zero issues entering
Easy to find and the information was very thorough. Our family learned a lot and a ceremony was just outside. Beautiful tribute.
Loved it easy peasy! Worth it for me and my son. The Arc is so much m9re beautiful than you expect I had to rest half way up the stairs but they do have an elevator.
It’s a great way to see the city with a Birds Eye view. The historical importance of the Arc is well showcased and my love and I took many wonderful photos with the city in the background. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone as long as you can climb a lot of step and aren’t scared of tiny stairways.
Horrible experience. We arrived for a 1:50 booking and the site had closed at 1:45 with no warning. They absolutely refused entry.
Beautiful experience to see the city. Amazing amounts of history. The eternal flame and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is stunning and moving.
