We chose this hotel mostly for the location. We were taking an outbound train to Poitiers and this proved to be a very convenient location. Our room was spacious and comfortable although there are improvements that could be made. The refrigerator did not keep food or drinks cold. There didn't appear to be any sprinklers or smoke alarms in the room and the emergency instructions were very tiny to read and not at eye level. There were no USB sockets and no power sockets close to the bed. The bedside tables were rather distant from the bed. I made good use of the desk by the window and this was the only practical space to use my laptop near a power socket. Wifi was good. The air conditioning was ok, but we were lucky to be there after the heatwaves. I am not sure it would have been sufficient if temperatures were warmer. I understand they are working to improve this. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. The shower over the bath was satisfactory but the non slip pattern on the bath surface had long since worn away making it slippery if you used much soap. There were no hand rails to assist you getting out of the tub while standing.

I had a great stay here! The location is perfect, the rooms are clean and the service is excellent. Thank you Raphael for making us feel like VIP’s 😊
The Mercure Paris Gare Montparnasse TGV is an absolute disgrace. Do not be fooled by its "4-star" reputation. The core failure here lies entirely with an incompetent management team that has completely lost control of its operations. It is useless to blame the front-line staff; they are left entirely empty-handed with absolutely nothing to help guests because management has abandoned them. The lobby is a chaotic nightmare that feels like a cheap street market rather than a professional hotel. Three flimsy desks serve as a reception counter. During check-in, the environment was so hostile that guests were literally screaming at the workers over room failures. This is a complete failure of leadership. Management hides in the back, totally unsupportive of their staff and indifferent to the chaos. No minor cosmetic feature can mask the fact that the service and management are fundamentally broken. The rooms are completely neglected and falling apart: The air conditioning is broken, the windows are boarded up like a construction site, and the soundproofing is nonexistent. The minibar is completely empty and dead. The bathroom tile grout is covered in mold, with no towel hooks and no toilet brush. This hotel is a scam trading on past glory. Management should be deeply ashamed of this operational disaster. Avoid this place at all costs.
This could be a great hotel, it just needs a refurbishment. The hallways and rooms feel very dated. We stayed in an Eiffel Tower view room, stunning view down to the tower, but it was only visible if you sat at the desk in the corner of the room. If the bed was on the other wall or even a big mirror you could enjoy the view from bed. Breakfast had a good selection. Unfortunately they charged 5€ per bag for storage, this is an expected inclusion, and just puts a bad taste in your mouth.
The hotel location was excellent and the room was as expected. However, more attention could be paid to cleanliness — the bathroom was not clean when we arrived, although the staff took immediate action after we informed them. Also, when checking out, we were informed about a new rule requiring guests to pay 5 euros per bag to leave luggage at the hotel. We did not find this pleasant at all.
