A bit crowded viewing the locks - the addition of the IMAX was great and gave fantastic overview of history.

Itinerary
The Amador Causeway is one of the most beautiful waterfront destinations in Panama City, connecting the mainland to four small islands at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Built using rocks excavated during the construction of the canal, this scenic road offers spectacular views of the Panama City skyline, the Pacific Ocean, and ships waiting to enter the canal. It is a popular place for walking, cycling, taking photographs, enjoying the ocean breeze, and discovering Panama’s coastal atmosphere. The Causeway is also an excellent place to stop for lunch or dinner, with several restaurants offering fresh seafood, Panamanian cuisine, international dishes, and waterfront dining. Visitors can relax at a restaurant overlooking the ocean, enjoy a meal with views of the city skyline, or have a refreshing drink while watching the sunset over the Pacific.
The Biomuseo area is one of the most distinctive places to visit in Panama City, located at the entrance to the Amador Causeway, near the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Designed by the world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the colorful Biomuseo celebrates Panama’s natural history and its important role in connecting North and South America, allowing species to migrate between the continents. The surrounding area offers beautiful waterfront scenery, walking paths, and spectacular panoramic views of Panama City’s modern skyline, with its impressive skyscrapers rising along the Pacific coast. From this location, visitors can enjoy excellent photo opportunities featuring the city, the ocean, and ships navigating near the canal entrance. It is an ideal stop for sightseeing, photography, and appreciating the contrast between Panama’s modern architecture, tropical landscape, and maritime heritage.
Casco Antiguo, also known as the Old Town of Panama City, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1673 after the original Panama City was destroyed by pirates. Its charming streets feature colorful colonial buildings, historic churches, beautiful plazas, and elegant balconies that reflect Spanish, French, and neoclassical architectural influences. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the modern city skyline, explore local shops, taste traditional Panamanian cuisine, and discover the history and culture that make this historic district one of Panama’s most fascinating destinations.
The Agua Clara Locks are part of the Panama Canal’s impressive expansion, inaugurated in 2016 to allow larger vessels to transit between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Located near Colón on the Caribbean side of Panama, this modern lock system uses enormous water-filled chambers and gravity-fed water-saving basins to raise and lower Neopanamax ships. From the visitor observation area, you can watch massive cargo ships, container vessels, and other commercial ships navigate the locks while learning about the engineering, history, and global importance of the Panama Canal. The Agua Clara Visitor Center also offers spectacular views of Gatun Lake, the surrounding tropical rainforest, and the Atlantic entrance to the canal, making it an excellent stop for visitors interested in Panama’s maritime history, nature, and world-famous engineering achievements.
The Gatun Locks are one of the most important and historic parts of the Panama Canal, located on the Caribbean side near Colón. Opened in 1914, this original lock system uses three consecutive chambers to raise ships approximately 26 meters (85 feet) above sea level to Gatun Lake, allowing vessels to cross the Isthmus of Panama between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Unlike the newer Agua Clara Locks, Gatun operates with the original lock system, using gravity to move water in and out of the chambers. At the Gatun Locks Visitor Center, visitors can observe ships passing through the locks at close range and learn about the remarkable engineering, history, and international trade that have made the Panama Canal one of the world's most important waterways.

Very knowledgeable guide. The IMAX movie is great. Up close view of the ships going through the canal.
Perfectly planned to see big ships and the lock process. Rafael is an extremely knowledgeable, friendly and excellent guide. He provides a lot of details about the canal and Panama.
Our driver Saul was a loverly guy and very informative. He made sure we knew where he would be at the end and didn’t rush us. We saw 3 ships into the locks and watched 2 of them leave the lock.
was a great experience! Our Tour Guide Raphael was very good! He was polite professional ..well informed and went the extra mile to stop to show us a sloth with added info after the tour. My only issue was that VIator needs to advertise the full price ..not the "TRANSPORT" only ..it is missleading as we still had to pay at the entity for entrance!
Great tour! So many tours feel the need to pack in too many activities, which leave me feeling overwhelmed. I took this tour because I wanted to see the canal, and that’s exactly what we did. Saul is an excellent guide. He gave an interesting narrative on the way to the canal, threw in a bit of local history, and told us what to expect once we arrived at the canal. He thoughtfully sent me an advance link so I could skip the ticket queue. Once at the canal, he checked in with me twice, making sure all was well and updated me on the ships we were seeing. Afterward, he drove us back to our respective pickup locations. BTW, he is an excellent driver. An excellent way to spend the afternoon
We actually booked this on our own directly at the location. Lots and lots of history, we were fortunate enough to arrive as a cargo ship was coming through. It was amazing to see the gates open and the water level drop. The IMAX theater with Morgan Freeman‘s voice also added a very historical touch we learned a lot from watching the movie. I say it was worth it.
This tour greatly added to my experience of visiting the canal. We arrived at a perfect time to see ships going through, were guided through lines and security, and told the best lookout points. The timing for the ships and IMAX was excellent. Plus we learned more about the canal on the drive in both directions. I am so glad I chose this tour as my way to visit.
Worth the tour to get access to the right spots for the canal. Our tour guide was super nice and knowledgeable!
Panama Canal tour and IMAX should not be missed. Fascinating marvel of engineering! The facility is beautiful and modern.
My grandson and I loved the entire experience! Panama Canal is a spectacular mechanism of engineering and a beautiful and breathtaking site that you have to see, with your own eyes, in person. I cannot describe the captivating experience enough that one can picture it. Saul our tour guide messaged me on WhatsApp ahead of time to let me know what time he would pick us up. He met us in the lobby, introduced himself and safely drove us to the Panama Canal. During the drive and the entire tour, he was sincerely warm, professional and highly intelligent and provided us with a wealth of knowledge, information and history of Panama and the Canal. You can genuinely feel the love he has for his country & culture! I would recommend Saul to anyone coming to Panama and wanting to learn more about it. In fact, I have no doubt that we were paired with the best tour guide anywhere!!! Hands down! I’ll be back soon as I am putting everything in place to relocate to Panama in the next, few short years and I would love to continue to learn more about this spectacular and beautiful country and its history.
Our guide was very friendly and entertaining. His timing was perfect as we saw 2 ships crossing. We would give him 10 stars if we could
Our tour guide, Saul, was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer our questions. Learned a lot about the Panama Canal and the vital role it plays in commerce.
Saul was a fantastic guide! I liked that we were a small group. The Panama Canal is amazing! The IMAX movie was really good.
This tour is worth the money! The pickup from our hotel was on time, the tour guide was wonderful! Highly recommend!
Saul was a great guide! He provided much information around the history and current politics around the Panama Canal. Offered pick up from several location, continued providing information during the tour and leads you to the IMAX experience.
It was a good afternoon and the IMAX video was very good. Well explained and the history and working of the carnal well understood
Rafael was a very knowledgeable and professional tour guide. The tour was very well organized and the late-afternoon time to visit the canal guaranteed us seeing it in operation. We saw three ships being transferred through the locks. A great experience and a very well run tour!
Our tour was short and sweet and perfect. First our guide and driver did everything in their power to avoid terrible traffic due to a bridge fire nearby (completely random and unrelated) just as we got there, we were able to watch a big ship go through the locks. The purchased some popcorn and drinks to enjoy during the imax movie, which was great! Then we headed back, our guide gave us lots of into on the ride there and back. A perfect excursion. I would not have wanted to spend more time there.
Good guide very knowledgeable and passionate about his country! IMAX movie was great!
Raphael was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the tour. Pick-up and drop-off was easy. Raphael made sure we knew when the ships were coming through the canal at Miraflores Center and where and when to line up for the IMax show. His presentation about Panama was very informative also. And when he found our friend's cash laying in the van afterwards, he contacted us to return it to them. Highly recommend this tour.
Good tour, fascinating learning about the Canal and watching the locks in action. Admission and IMAX fees were disclosed, but pricey when factoring in the tour / transportation costs.
Tour was good, but it make you wonder why you have to pay Viator for transportation only. You have to buy tickets for Mira locks and IMAX theater. You could ask any taxi (for $5) to take you there.
It was a good trip guide was great it next time I’d just take an uber to the viewing platform as we didn’t really have as long as I would have liked messing about picking people up was a pain
It was excellent!!! Our tour guides were absolutely 100% amazing and I will definitely book with them again
Absolutely amazing experience! The Sloth Tour in Panama’s urban area was short, beautiful, and incredibly rewarding. We spotted several sloths in their natural habitat right in the city; such a unique and unforgettable sight. Our guide, Edwin, was fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about the wildlife.
Amazing experience! We got to see sloths up close in their natural urban habitat—something truly unique in the heart of Panama City. The guide was knowledgeable and made the tour both fun and educational.
Excellent and different tour. Rafael was very knowledgeable about the area and where the sloths were hiding. We also saw lizards in the wilderness. Great day!
We were picked up on time in a clean, cool van by our guide Rafael who already knew our family by name and is fluent in English. The tour kicked off with an introduction to the history of Panama and a stop-off on the side of the road to spot our first sloth. As we made our way to Gatun lake, we learned the past and future of the Canal. We saw three types of monkeys, several sloths, many water birds and a black iguana. A great time was had by all, ages 8 to 70. Rafael took great pictures that he shared with us via what's app. We plan to return to Panama and would definitely tour with this company and Rafael again!
We had the best day, ever!!! Juan was a fantastic guide who tailored out day out to make it really special and individualised to our interests. He really knows the area, the Panama Canal history and the best spots for seeing the monkeys. We highly recommend this tour!!!
This tour had 2 highlights - the Panama Canal and Raphael. (1) Watching a massive 300 meter car carrier ship make its way through the Panama Canal was memorable. (2) Raphael’s humor and storytelling was a special treat. We only had 4 hours and, thanks to Raphael and our wonderful driver, we made the most of it.
Great trip! My sister’s family did this tour a week ago with Rafael and I just came alone and had Levy as my tour guide! Totally recommended, they love their country and want to show tourists why one should visit. Very knowledgeable and informative about history, best places to see, and how to enjoy Panama if you have just 6 hours or days. I am coming back to do other tours!
Rafael was an expert of the history of Panama, had a great sense of humor and was a delightful tour guide.
They picked us up at the indicated time. The guide Saul was very kind. During the trip, he was explaining everything to us. He accompanied us to get the tickets and then to see the canal.
A unique experience in the city. We could see sloths in their natural habitat without leaving the urban area. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Perfect for families and nature lovers.
