Took this private tour with my Mom in Aug 2026. Ricardo is amazing. The tour was very thorough and educational. My Mother has limited mobility and Ricardo was able to adjust and find ways for her to see the sights with minimal walking. At the canal for example he was able to direct me to the higher level while keeping her company on the lower level. I really appreciate his accommodating her and me. This was well worth the money. He and the driver wwre very very lovely. I would definitely recommend. You can make this tour whatever you need it to be.

Itinerary
At the must-see Miraflores Visitor Center, you'll witness the engineering marvel of massive ships being raised from the Pacific and lowered when coming from the Atlantic. Your visit also includes a captivating 45-minute 3D documentary, narrated by Morgan Freeman, which traces the Canal's historic construction and its evolution into the modern wonder it is today.
Located at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, this scenic man-made causeway connects three beautiful islands. Originally built as a military defense and breakwater, it is now a vibrant waterfront destination where you can enjoy magnificent views of the city skyline and watch massive ships lining up to enter the Canal.
Discover the historic heart of Panama City in this designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in 1673, this beautifully restored neighborhood offers a journey through centuries of history. You'll wander past stunning colonial facades and picturesque plazas as your guide brings the fascinating stories of the past to life
We will pass by the lively Plaza Herrera, an important historic square dedicated to General Tomás Herrera. Surrounded by beautifully restored colonial facades, it is one of the most vibrant and charming intersections in the historic district.
Enjoy scenic views as we pass by the iconic American Trade Hotel. This beautifully restored neoclassic building is one of the most photographed landmarks in the old quarter and stands as a stunning testament to Panama's rich history and architectural revival.
Take in the sights as we pass by the striking ruins of Iglesia La Compañía de Jesús. Dating back to 1741, the remnants of this former church and convent offer a fascinating glimpse into Panama's colonial era and historic architecture.
We will stop to stroll through Plaza Mayor (also known as Plaza de the Independencia), the historic heart of Casco Viejo. Enjoy a guided walk through this beautiful main square where Panama's independence was declared, surrounded by magnificent landmarks like the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Admire the elegant facade of Hotel Central, famously known as the very first hotel in Panama. Built in 1874, this beautifully restored French-style building once hosted early canal engineers, international diplomats, and even U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt during the Canal's historic construction.
Look out for the famous Arco Chato (Flat Arch) as we pass by this 17th-century architectural marvel. These historic ruins remained standing for centuries, famously proving Panama's seismic stability to engineers before the construction of the Panama Canal
Admire the elegant Plaza de Francia as we pass by this picturesque square. Dedicated to the French pioneers who first attempted to build the Panama Canal, it features a towering obelisk and historic sea walls (Las Bóvedas) with beautiful colonial charm.

We had an amazing experience! Our driver was waiting when we exited the airport and although our time was limited he gave us a wonderful tour and lots of information on Panama. We had opportunities to take photos and we ended the tour with a tasty lunch. He was mindful of our time and got us back to the airport on time for our flight! I'm so happy we booked this trip. Our short time spent in Panama was amazing.
Fantastic experience delivered with lots of local knowledge. We had a great experience at the canal visitors center and in the old town.
Rick was a superb guide and gave us a brilliant tour of all the sights. Really interesting and great company.
Very informative about the Panama Canal and got to explore the old city . I can’t remember the name unfortunately. Such beautiful old architect.. of visiting the Panama Canal the imax movie is a must . It was so cool great for all ages to learn some history
Nice experience. The guide was very professional and provided us with good information. Recommended for family trips.
We had an excellent private tour of the Panama Canal this past Friday, and Jose was the perfect guide. Even though many places were closed for Good Friday, he still managed to give us an incredible experience. Jose was punctual, professional, and full of knowledge about the Canal and Panama’s history. He took the time to show us key parts of Panama City, sharing local insights and pointing out interesting spots along the way. His passion for his country really came through, and he made the whole tour feel personal and engaging. If you’re looking for a great private tour in Panama, ask for Jose. You won’t be disappointed!
Excellent tour! Our guide was very flexible about scheduling a time for the tour. He was very knowledgeable about Panama and we were impressed with how much we learned in a short time. We love private tours because we can hear better, ask questions, and really see the parts of an area that interest us most. First stop was the Miraflores Center. Our guide made sure to get us there at the right time for the English version of the IMAX movie. Highly recommend because it shows and explains what you see at the Canal. Again, our guide provided excellent details about the Canal history and operation. Our guide then took us to a wonderful vantage point for seeing an overview of Panama. Finally we drove through the old parts of Panama City. Our guide provided recommendations for what to see and do there. Great tour!
Amazing tour. A must. Great tour. Amazing and knowledgeable Tour guide. A must to do when in Panama!!
Our guide Rick was friendly and personable l. He has a rich knowledge of of the country of Panama and the city of Panama City. He planned out our day perfect And we were able to see so much in a relatively short amount of time. He saved the Panamá Canal for last as most ships pass through during the afternoon. He took us to a more affordable souvenir shop to help us save money as well. You won’t be disappointed with him.
Worthwhile experience: Josè was an excellent guide, picked us up right on time and van very knowledgeable and courteous. We wanted to stop at a restaurant for a traditional Panamanian meal and he found us the perfect spot. Highly recommended!
Excellent trip with Ricardo who was a very helpful guide who knew all the right places and was very informative and knowledgeable Very pleased with our trip,
This tour was booked for us over our Swiss travel agency. We expected for our guide in our hotel. Nobody picked us up, nobody called us. Even for the hotel this agency wasn‘t reachable by phone, whatsapp or mail. This is fraud, please avoid! They take the money for doing nothing!!!
After booking this tour for a same day start I waited over 2 hours with no contact despite trying 3 times to contact them. After contacting Viator I got an email that my money was being refunded. Wasted my day waiting. Horrible customer service.
Always wanted to see the Panama Canal. Enjoyed the private tour. Jose made sure we were comfortable and saw what we wanted to see!
Alfrado was our guide. He did his best but the vehicle was small for a 4 passengers. Very cramped. His English was fair and he was hard to hear in the back of the car. He was accommodating and we did get to see a large portion of the town. I wouldn't recommend this for more than 2 people
This was suppose be an english shore excursion tour. It turned out to be a google translators thats not what we paid for.Night before tour operators texted us to meet him after we exit the terminal driver would have a sign. he texed that he couldn't enter the terminal area. Told us to take shuttle bus to a hotel there no shuttle had to take a taxi. This was additional cost and lost sometime. Got minor information about Panama. Very Disappointing.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we saw places a bit off the beaten path. He was very efficient and knew when best time to see ships in the canal pass thru
Rick and his driver were great. We had little time, so we snacked in the car on almonds and toured the Canal, the Causeway, and Old Town. Rides from the airport and to our hotel were so appreciated.
SCAM!!! Be careful with this tour guide, it's a scam! We were waiting for them at the hotel lobby, already 15 minutes before the scheduled time. The driver did not show up. We contacted them via the app, no response. The receptionist called them 3 times, no answer at all. They just ghosted and scammed us. I contacted customer service for a refund. They told me the tour guide denied the full refund and said he was there waiting, the receptionist “told him we were gone to our room and didn't return their calls”. This is not true, they made up a fake story to avoid giving us our money back!!! We waited patiently for more than an hour trying to contact them! I know it's a scam and I won't get my money back, I just want to avoid other people being scammed so please stay away from these tour guides!

Just a great experience always wanted to see it and with a guide that knows what todo and when to be there you get the best of it. The city tour took me to places I would never have thought Togo see or do so very glade this is part of this tour
The tour operator didn’t show up. For some reason I only got a 50% refund which isn’t acceptable. I did not cancel this tour, the operator didn’t show up. Why should I be out of pocket for something that went wrong ( not on my part). I had received confirmation the day before that we would be collected on the Sunday at 1 from the hotel, but no one showed up. Very poor
Stash was a knowledgeable guide. Unfortunately his recommendation to start the tour at 1pm put us into rush hour traffic which caused us to miss 1/2 of what we wanted to see. We spent about 1.5 hours at the canal and the rest in the car.
Our group was over 100 persons and Rick and his team were so professional with amazing personalities and very knowledgeable !! Our transportation was nice and very accommodating! I would recommend this tour to anyone!!
Our guide Alfredo met us promptly on time at our hotel. He was a fantastic host during our tour. He was very knowledgeable having been a lifelong resident of Panama City. We saw the new city, the old city and we were able to visit some very sentimental locations. My wife’s father was stationed in Panama during World War II and we have photos of him during this timeframe. Alfredo was able to bring us to these locations which was an emotional moment for my wife. We also loved our visit to the Panama Canal.
Enjoyed the stop at the Queens house and the stop at the souvenir store. The highlight was the Miraflors visitor center and the IMAX movie on the Panama Canal. The drawback to this particular tour was the fact that the vehicle was too small for four adults to comfortably enjoy the sightseeing. It was a smaller sized suv with three of us cramped together in the back seat. The tour guide was nice enough but could have done a bit more narration/history during the ride without us prompting with questions. He was great at always being with us during the stops, we never had to hunt him down which was a huge plus.
Alfredo was the best guide. Very knowledgeable and informative. Spoke very good English. He made the day better. I would definitely travel with him again.
Alfredo was the best tour guide excellent English and really knows the ins and out of getting around Panama from one coast to the other I would highly recommend this tour and be sure you get Alfredo!!!
We had a fabulous time with Ricardo doing this trip in November 23. He met us at our hotel in the morning & we went to the Panama Canal where we joined another man with the boat. Life jackets were supplied. We had a wonderful boat trip seeing the Panama Canal & Monkey Island. Ricardo picked up some fruit for the monkeys who came onto the boat to eat it so we got nice photos. (Apparently morning trips are best as the monkeys aren't so hungry later.)We also heard & saw screeching monkeys in the trees. It was really enjoyable seeing the monkeys as well as seeing the huge container ships going through the canal. Ricardo was very friendly & informative. We also went to the Gambia Rainforest reserve & had a drink & cakes (we paid separately for this) which was a beautiful hotel with fantastic views. over the Chagres river. All in all a lovely trip. Thank you Ricardo.
Three months ago we booked a Private tour of the Miraflores Locks (Panama Canal) for 8 adults, prepaid for $500. A 6 Seat SUV showed up and the tour guide named Irwin thought we could all cram inside. My family, who came from California and New York were visiting Panama for the first time and were looking forward to this tour. We told the guide to order a BIGGER vehicle. 45 minutes later another vehicle arrived and our guide went along. We arrived at the site and were told to hurry because the only boat going through the canal was almost done. We nearly missed seeing anything. We managed to see the IMAX film but had to hurry because our group wanted to see Casco Viejo before returning to the hotel. Irwin, for whatever reason took us to two places we didn't want to go to and when he finally dropped us off at Casco Viejo asked for more money ($130) for no apparent reason except to try to extort it from us. We said no, of course. We were shocked and dismayed. I don't think anyone in our group will ever take another VIATOR sponsored tour again.
Our guide Alex was fantastic. Friendly, spoke great English and liked to laugh. Loved being only 2 of us in car got to cover more territory. Very accommodating to what we wanted to do.
We had previously booked another tour on Viator which was cancelled as we were boarding the plane to Panama. Since the original activity was scheduled for 8:00 AM the next day, I had to scramble to get this trip booked. As it turned out, we were very pleased with the guide and what he showed us in Panama. He was professional and worked with us since there was a lot of traffic getting out of the airport because of an accident. Overall, we had a good experience in Panama as a result
Andres is a wonderful tour guide. Interacted well and conversed with us even though we do not know any Spanish . He took his time to show us the areas and would make a quick stop when requested..My husband is not very talkative and he had a wonderful day out with Andres as our guide. Just a great tour... it was easy communication and an excellent tour guide.
Alfredo was amazing! He seemed genuinely happy in life which made the trip that much better. He was very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge. Even the little things, he took the time to explain in english and answer all of our questions. We recommend alfredo 😊
Alex was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He went out of his way to ensure we were pleased and comfortable. Highly recommend
Alfredo was a fantastic guide. I highly recommend this excursion. I would give it ten stars if I could. He timed the canal visit perfectly so that we could see it in action and the rest of the areas we visited gave us a great overview of where to return to.
Our guide wasn’t great on communicating with time. We couldn’t find him after the 3D video. He did his best, but wish he communicated better
I cannot rate Ricardo highly enough! He was excellent. Very personable too. I learnt a lot from my experience and from his life as well. Highly recommended!
There weren’t others who signed up for the tour so my husband and I ended up with a private tour. We rode in a crossover SUV which was comfortable. Alejandro is friendly and knowledgeable about Panama City and the Panama Canal. We were mostly interested in the canal and didn’t have a lot of stops outside of the Canal and the Panama sign. The city traffic was heavy and we opted to pass going to the church as parking wasn’t available. We were able to enjoy local cuisine at the Seafood market.
Edwin our driver and guide was very knowledgeable. We got to see everything we wanted in 4 hours. We stopped and had lunch on the side of the road. Gaucho mariscos was so good. I recommend him!
Oscar was the best. Full of information, knowledge of the city and the Canal. He took us to two surprisingly interesting old churches that the cruise line tour skipped. The oldest church in Panama City has a massive "nativity scene" as he called it. The tour and Oscar are highly recommended. We were picked up and returned to the Hilton.
This was a good tour. We spent most time in the old town and we spent an hour in the Panama canal museum which is very well done. He drove us to have a quick look at the ruins of the first city before driving to Miraflores to see the IMAX film. Our guide respected our wish not to stop for shopping.
Our guide, Edwin, hosted us on a very informative and enjoyable tour which concluded successfully with our purchase of the unique molas we were seeking!
Our driver Rick was amazing. Very knowledgeable. Very accommodating and made us feel at ease and have a good time. I forgot my shoes. He picked us up from the mall.
My wife and I booked this last minute tour because we had time after our cruise before our flight later that day after disembarking! Rick picked us up at the shuttle dropoff station at the Marinn Hotel. Wonderful tour, very knowledgeable of local history and brought us to little-known tourist spots and a great little informal back-of-a-store eatery where the locals ate… lots of delicious food at a fraction of the respective cost in the States. We highly recommend Rick who speaks perfect English!
Watching the ships going through the locks on the canal. The history was fascinating and watching the water rise was intriguing
Rick was awesome! Great knowledge and personalized the tour for us as we were not interested in the canal center. Was a great way to see Panama City (old and new).
We had a great time visiting some of the historic and modern parts of the city. We loved the Fish Market, and the most exciting thing was the trip to the canal, we were lucky to see a cargo ship across the gates.
One of the best tours we took. Ricardo is very knowledgeable and takes his time during the tour. Highly recommend!
