Itinerary
We start the day with pick ups in Panama City. Your day begins with a journey into one of the most fascinating intersections of nature and engineering in the world: Gatun Lake, a vast manmade lake that forms a critical part of the Panama Canal. You'll board a covered motorboat and set off on a wildlife safari through its winding channels and jungle-lined shores. As you cruise across the iconic Panama Canal, you’ll glide past enormous cargo ships and ocean liners, sharing the lake with vessels from around the world. Your expert local guide will take you off the main canal route and into the hidden backwaters and narrow inlets where the jungle comes alive. Keep your camera ready for capuchin monkeys, tamarin monkeys howler monkeys, sloths, iguanas, toucans, crocodiles, and even basilisk lizards that run across the water. The boat ride offers both awe-inspiring views and rare up-close encounters with Panama’s diverse wildlife.
Our destination is Gatun Lake, where we will cruise around islands created during the canal construction and see the abundant wildlife on its shores. We will visit the famous Monkey Islands where we can see capuchins, howlers, and tamarins up close in their natural habitat. Once we finish with our canal and lake boat ride.
In case of rain, you'll be comfortably seated indoors at Restaurante El Nacional, where the same delicious menu and cultural storytelling will continue in a stylish, colonial-era dining space.

They aren't kidding about the no bathroom thing, which starts when you are picked up. The experience was great though, and our guide knew a lot about how the Panama canal was created. We also saw lots of monkeys, as well as other wildlife. The guide knew a lot about the ecology, which made it all even more interesting. Finally, the brunch at the end was special...we had a table right on the square, with delicious food. Great experience, definitely recommend.
John was knowledgeable, professional, and made the tour a great experience. The tour was reasonably priced, the lunch was excellent, and I loved the eco-friendly focus. We had plenty of time to explore and enjoy the beautiful scenery without feeling rushed. I finished the day with dinner at El Nacional, and the food was A+! Highly recommend John and this tour! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Staff was great. John and Eliel thanks for the tour. John was a wealth of information.
Absolutely recommend the tour, it was great and fun! Our guide John was an absolute blast and pleasure to have on our tour, I highly recommend this guide.
Guide was very knowledgeable. Book with John 💯
Great experience, fun time, would recommend a friend
Guide was extremely informative and helpful!
Don't miss this experience! We chose to do the early morning (6am) trip. Our guide, Alfonso, was fantastic. We got picked up in front of our hotel and then immediately headed out to Lake Gatun. Ice water is available on board the bus. Along the way, he gave us the history of Panama and the Canal. The history lesson continued once we boarded the boat. We were able to pass alongside some large container ships that were transiting the canal. Once we got over to the "islands", we drove around looking for wildlife. In addition to the white faced capuchin monkeys, you might see howlers and tamarins. We saw a toucan flying, parrots, cranes, as well as many other birds. Alfonso was very knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions. After the tour, we went back to Casco Viejo and had brunch. They put up private tables for us outside the Santa Maria Cathedral. The brunch was simple, but traditional Panamanian food and it was excellent. Overall, it was a great experience and we couldn't recommend it enough. Thanks Alfonso for a great trip!
An amazing experience but an even better tour guide. This is a great boat trip and incredible sightseeing. Then our tour guide spend the time before our next tour walking us around town.
It started on time. John was very knowledgeable and engaging. It was truly an experience. We were at to see a variety of wildlife
The private tour is worth it! The tour operator and guide are incredibly nice and accommodating with all of our travel/logistical changes. Food was the best we had during our entire time in Panama. Enrique was a great guide and spent time to share the history and stories of the Panama Canal. Also, seeing all of the various animals was incredible.
Wonderful time and wonderful guide ,we had so much fun and learn alot about the canal i would definitely do this again
Excellent communication from our tour guides. Provided amazing information and history of Panama. Pick up and drop off at our hotel. Very welcoming very comforting. Highly recommend anybody coming from out of town.
We had fantastic guides, it was amazing to see the rainforest and animals. At the end we were treated to local food in a restaurant, absolutely delicious!
Wonderful experience! amazing scenery and great guides. Very attentive to their guests comfort and needs. Cutest Monkeys you will ever see!
Very Rushed no washroom till the end pickup very delayed due to other travellers. Could have been a bit more organized
This was such a great experience. Our tour guide Alonzo was very knowledgeable. He gave a great tour. Also, the food was amazing!
We took the early morning tour, which started at 6am. Though it was an early start, especially on vacation, it was totally worth it! We got to see the monkeys, and enjoy a boat ride along the Panama Canal. We especially enjoyed the extra history about the Canal. Overall, a great experience.
Alonso was our guide and he was fantastic! He was very knowledgable about the history of Panama and the canal. He was also great at taking us around the lake to spot different monkeys and giving us information on each of them. We ended up seeing 3 different kinds of monkeys, an iguana, birds, and bats. The brunch was delicious, and pickup/dropoff from our hotel was easy and communicated clearly. Highly recommend this tour and Alonso if you have free time in Panama!
Alonso and Yoel were fantastic. Very friendly, helpful and trustworthy. Had great insights into the canal and the animals that live in and around it. The meal at the end was fantastic too and actually pretty romantic. We loved it.
We went private which was nice. Our guide Noris was excellent and knowledgable. Included lunch is true panamanian food and delicious. The canal is a testament to human civilization and the deep panamanian history is fantastic to learn about. Highly recommended.
I simply cannot give enough praise to Alonso and his company. This tour exceeded expectations in every way. Starting out, traffic was blocked near our pick up point and we couldn’t find the spot where the driver was able to park. Alonso got out of the van and walked about a block and a half to find us and lead us back to the van. The van was clean and comfortable with great air conditioning. Alonso speaks great English and gave us a very informative and interesting tour of the Panama Canal and the history. When we boarded the boat we met our driver and began the boat ride to Monkey Island along the Chagres River. We were able to see a crocodile, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, tamarind monkeys, and many iguanas. Alonso was great at spotting the animals and directing our boat driver to a location where we all had a clear view of them. After our tour we made our way to the restaurant where we were served traditional Panamanian food. The tour description describes the meal as a “brunch” which seemed to us like it might mean a small meal where we might be able to sample a few things. We took the afternoon tour so I’m not sure what it’s like in the morning but our meal was amazing. We were given a menu and could choose from 4-5 different items and drinks (sodas, juice, or beer). The proportions were far bigger than we expected and the food was delicious, highly recommend the passion fruit juice! We left the restaurant fat and happy! 10/10 would recommend this tour and Alonso to any and everyone!
Alonso communicated all the details of the trip and itinerary to perfection. He provided us loads of information about Panama, the canal, the environment and the animals. The tour was excellent and Alonso were excellent! We had so much fun and had the opportunity to see 3 kinds of monkeys, birds, and lizards. At the end we had a scrumptious brunch with fresh fruit, it was delicious. Highly recommend!
The host was on time, very knowledgeable on the history of the Canal. Wish I say more monkeys but thats no fault of the provider
We did the Monkey & Sloth Canal Boat Safari with Casco Viejo brunch, and our guide Noris was absolutely magical. Her energy stayed positive throughout the entire experience. She was incredibly knowledgeable, vibrant, had the answer to every question, and made you feel like you’d known her your whole life. She truly made this one of my favorite experiences in Panama. The tour started with hotel pickup in a comfortable A/C van. From there, we drove to the lake and boarded a boat that took us to Monkey Island. We were able to spot three different types of monkeys and captured some amazing photos and videos along the way. Ironically, the only thing we didn’t see was a sloth , which is funny because it’s in the title of the tour and that’s the only animal not really mentioned in the tour description or brought up during the tour itself. Noris did such an amazing job that I honestly forgot about the sloths until we got back to our room. This is the only thing keeping me from giving 5 star review. After the boat tour, we headed to El Restaurante Nacional for brunch. Fun fact: it was originally the first bank in Panama, and the original vault door is still there. We were given the option of three different meals, and drinks included sangria, beer, and tea (sodas were extra). The food was great, and my sangria definitely did not disappoint. After brunch, we had the option to stay and explore the area or be driven back to the hotel. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience, and Noris was a huge part of what made it so special.
This was a wonderful tour. It exceeded our expectations. We took the 1:30 tour. A very nice, air conditioned bus picked us up and drove us to a beautiful lake, where we got onto a covered boat that could hold 15-20 people. It took us through beautiful green waterways with lush islands where we saw three different types of monkeys, a crocodile, birds, iguanas, and a basilisk. We passed two large ships passing through the canal. And we even saw a sloth on the drive back. The bus brought us back to Casco Viejo, where we ate at a wonderful Panamanian restaurant, where the food was amazing. Noris was the perfect host. We couldn’t have had a better time!
This was a wonderful trip. Our guide was Noris and she was fantastic. Extremely personable. And very outgoing and nice. Tour started with a bus ride to where the boat was. Small boat. I think we had 12 people. Noris gave us lots of history on the way to the boat and then on the boat she continued to give us history of the Panama Canal and the lake we were in. After getting through the main part of the lake we went to several islands. You don’t get out. These are protected areas but the boat pulls right up to the trees. We saw three different types of monkeys, iguanas, a basilisk, a crocodile and several birds. The boat ride was a wonderful way to spend some time. It was very pretty and Noris as well as the boat driver were very good at spotting animals for us to see. Incidentally you are seeing the animals up close. Some of the monkeys came right down to the boat. On the drive back to Casco Viejo the driver of the bus, Manuel, spotted a sloth and we pulled over to get pics. After that we went to dinner and had a great meal. The meal was included. It was a popular restaurant in Casco Viejo. It was really a great trip that we were very happy we did. We definitely recommend.
Tour guide was excellent, explained in detail about locations in panama including the canal. We saw capuchins monkeys, 2 toed sloths, bats, crocs, pigmy monkey and a ton of birds. The meal afterwards was great and they had vegan options.Ask to have John Acosta be your guide he is awsome and so was the driver manny. They were on time and very professional. It is worth the price.
This was a nice trip- we did see sloths, a few types of monkeys, iguana, and of course, right along side a massive ship- our guide- Antonio(????) was very knowledgeable
Great value and awesome tour guide. Noris really had a passion for nature and sharing her knowledge with the group.
This was an amazing experience! Noris is an excellent tour guide and gave us a lot of history about Panama and the culture. The safari was a great time and it was great to see the beautiful wildlife. The lunch in Casco Veijo was delicious. I highly recommend this tour!
The tour surpassed our expectations. John was extremely knowledgable and a fantastic communicator, We saw numerous animals which was exciting and knowing we were on waterways that are a part of the Panama Canal made it very exciting. Our tour finished with dinner at El Nacional Restaurant which was absolutely awesome. The food was authentic Panamanian and tasted delicious. If you are going to be in Panama…..don’t miss this tour.
Tour was excellent! Tour guide John was very welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable. Definitely made out trip and would highly recommend
John was really knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed the tour and were able to see several types of wildlife. Highly highly recommend!
Great experience, the guide was great and the opportunity to see wild animals in their environment was wonderful! The food in casco viejo was delicious especially the maracuya juice
This was the best experience I've had while in Panama! The company was super communicative leading up to our excursion. The guide was super knowledgeable and genuinely funny and friendly, and then to top it off the food was delicious and plentiful! This experience is well worth the price and you can book with confidence!
This was a wonderful experience to do the boat ride and see animals. Daniel was very knowledgeable, helpful, and on time. Highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide, Daniel, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. What a great way to spend our day. Plus the food was excellent!
John is amazing. Has so much knowledge about the areas visited and the canal along with local history. Offered information on places to eat etc. highly recommend this tour.
Daniel was an incredible guide. We loved getting to see the monkeys and learning about the canal. 10/10 would recommend!
So much adventure packed into a 1/2 day trip! Hotel pickup and drop off. Historical tour of Panama Canal 🇵🇦 on air conditioned bus. Boat ride through jungle to see hidden animals. And ended all with amazing dinner at restaurant with amazing ambiance.
We enjoyed seeing part of the Canal and some animals. I just thought it was supposed to last longer and that we'd see more. The brunch at the end was really good and located in the center of old downtown. Enjoyed the experience overall.
Was picked up promptly at our hotel the charge was included, and our ticket price knowledgeable staff was kind and considerate looked out for our safety and our well-being would definitely do it again. Our guides name was Daniel very knowledgeable about the rainforest. Excellent explanation about everything. Even before arriving to the rainforest, our driver notice a sloth in the tree and they pulled over so we could take pictures.
This tour was great! Our tour guide Alonso was incredibly knowledgable and so friendly. My husband and I really enjoyed that we were picked up right from our hotel in Playa Bonita and returned afterward. The vehicle was clean, comfortable and air conditioned. The boat was nice and covered so we were protected from the sun. We saw monkeys, bats, an alligator, pelicans, iguanas and lots of plant life, as well as shipping vessels. The brunch featured some y7mmy local offerings; fruit, juices and great coffee. I would highly recommend to others who are visiting!
Highly recommend! Our guide, Levy, was so nice and knowledgeable. It was a great amount of time to spend on the water, and the meal at the end was lovely. We saw so many animals and our kids (teenagers) had a great time.
Super fun, we got to see 3 types of monkeys, one of them even climbed onto our boat! Great times! :)
Great tour. Very educational and fun... the tour guide did a great job making us feel welcomed and they pick you up directly from your hotel.
This Panam Canal and monkey island tour was an excellent experience. We got picked on time at the Starbucks at the Albrook mall and from there the tour began. Our tour guide was Wuendell and he was very courteous, knowledgeable and did the absolute best at sharing a great experience. On the canal by boat (Lake Gatun) we got real close passing the big ships and also we got to see VERY CLOSE monkeys and birds of different sorts. After the trip we had a complimentary evening lunch/dinner in the old town. 100% would recommend this experience.
The experience was very nice. The tour guide was very professional and engaging and made every effort to make the adventure exciting. We saw lots of monkeys, bats, birds but unfortunately only one sloth. The breakfast was amazing! 10/10!
