This was a really fun, hands on experience where you get to see the full experience on what goes into making chocolate. Creating our own chocolate bar was very cool to do, and we had a lot of different options to add in as well (dried fruit, nuts, etc). We wrapped up with tasting a number of different Nome chocolate varieties paired with a local beer. Overall, a great experience to add into an afternoon if you're hanging around casco veijo!
Great history lesson! I tasted a raw cocoa bean! Interactive and they pair with a beer! Will def test your pallet! Awesome experience!
Great fun! Rolando was the employee who explained everything and it was a worthwhile activity.
I booked this online for $45 and I strongly recommend people with children NOT book online for them. In person, the cost for a child to attend and make a bar is $5. The store is cute and easy to find. The chocolate making class was fun and interactive. You are told about the process and allowed to eat a fresh cacao seed / pulp (tasty!) and try cacao nibs. You watch them temper chocolate and a few people in the group are offered an opportunity to try. Then you pour that chocolate into molds and are allowed to top your bar with a handful of some dried fruit or nuts. I wish there had been more interesting toppings. Cacao nibs would have been easy / cool. As it was, they had about 3 options for dried fruit (mango, pineapple, and cranberries) and 3 options for nuts (none of them are toasted). It wasn't particularly exciting. If an adult wants to make an extra chocolate bar, it is also $5. The chocolate bar then goes into a fridge to set, while you try some chocolate. The chocolate tasting was the best part. The samples are shaped like tiny cacao pods, which is cute. The chocolate bonbons are delicious. I bought extras of these to take home; the passionfruit and pineapple were delicious. The sweet sparkling wine they give you is also tasty. There's one bathroom and it is clean. Some of the prior reviews talk about fun drinks, but I didn't see any option for ordering these. There was no menu available for us to order drinks, and no one offered anything in terms of chocolate beverages.
This was such a wonderful experience. Our instructor was patient, kind even with the young child who was with us and very excited about the opportunity to make and taste different flavors of chocolate. The atmosphere was great, it was fun and interactive. I like that we each got an opportunity to take part in the process of cooling and molding our own chocolate. we would definitely recommend Nomé to our friends
The tour guide lady was very nice and thorough
Orlando did a fantastic job explaining the process and let us be a part of the tempering process! Great choice to visit
Amazing experience..i advise everybody to do this activity..the gentleman was very nice and friendly
Christian was a great host. He did an amazing job walking us through the chocolate making process and was incredibly friendly.
The experience was good and chocolate was so good.
Loved the experience. The chocolate was amazing
Cristian gave a great presentation! He was fun and personable! Highly recommend! Very knowledgeable and interactive!
Excellent experience. Rolando was knowledgeable, engaging and kept the tour entertaining. The cacao transformation to chocolate was delicious! And we were very close to our hotel so we were able to walk there and back. A great way to spend a few hours.
Learning about making chocolate at Nomé was very interesting and a lot of fun. My son enjoyed it and we learned a lot about the different chocolates of Panamá. Would recommend this!
The make your own chocolate experience was informative, but not very interactive. We arrived to our group of 6 and, after brief introductions, began learning about the types of chocolate and how it was made. As far as "making your own," it was just us pouring the chocolate (that the host had already ground and mixed) into molds and then sprinkling from a few toppings. It was really informative and I learned a lot, I just wish it was a bit more hands on.
Great. The tour operator was very informative, friendly and interactive. Totally worth going. Chocolates were great.
The chocolate making experience was educational and interactive. Orlando explained the chocolate making process from beginning to end and allowed us to see and taste the various stages. Making our own chocolate bar was lots of fun.
We had such a great time learning about the choclate making process and then making our own choclate bars!
This was one of the many fun parts of our vacation. The guide tried engage everyone and we had a fun group. The only negatives were… it was very clean but hygiene could be improved a little( he seemed to use his gloved hands for everything but not sure if he changed gloves after handling money, also when a boy’s sleeve got in the chocolate he ignored it ) and during the tasting perhaps they could have offered more plain chocolate- varieties of plain dark chocolate perhaps- instead of just fruit . All in all I would recommend it!
It was an educational and fun class, and the chocolate tasting after was great! In fact, I took the class last year and liked it so much, I came again this year!
The chocolate-making experience at Nomé Chocolate was a delightful and memorable activity. My best friend and I discovered it while exploring the area on a walking tour, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit. The experience is especially well suited for small groups, couples, and families with young children, creating an intimate and hands-on environment that is both fun and educational. One of the highlights was learning about Panamanian chocolate and participating in the chocolate-making process. The tasting portion was equally enjoyable, featuring a variety of chocolates, including beautifully crafted bonbons with rich, creamy fillings and unique flavor combinations. It was a wonderful introduction to Panama's chocolate culture and a sweet experience we would highly recommend.
I thought it was interesting. You can't help but to love chocolate. I got more knowledge on how the candy is made and how cacao % is factored and how unprepared to prepared chocolate taste and how it works. I guess I thought we would learn more hands on chocolate making but it was more show and tell. That okay I guess but I thought the price for this was a little high to only get 1 candy bar at the end. $135 was the total for 3 persons and we got to put chocolate into a form and sprinkle on toppings and that was the hands on part. Still a fun cool activity to do in Old Town Panama. Just know what your getting and don't exspect anything like a cooking class. It's show and tell and a single take home bar for $45 each. There was also tasting of tiny slivers of chocolate pieces and a sip of wine. I would sum it up to say a very neat idea but not much there regarding delivery of a hands on experience. I also wish they would have us wash our hands before making a group project we will all be eating.....
Beautiful experience with my family knowing where panamanian chocolate comes from. Our host was friendly, fun, & knowledgeable. Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to have fun & enjoy an evening with some chocolate.
Thorough explanations and the experience was immersive.
Great fun! I didn’t know Willy Wonka was from Panama.🤣 We learned the entire process from harvest to making our on chocolates with what you like (nuts, fruits, etc.) ended with a tasting of several other products filled with caramel and passion fruit. Can’t miss! 5 stars!
Wonderful experience, learning about how there is a difference betwen chocolate and "candy." The host did a wonderful job breaking down the processes and having us use our senses along the way from the bean to the finished product.
Excellent history with Spanish and English speaking guide. Got to create and take my own bar with offered toppings. Also tasted most popular flavors of chocolate at shop
This was lots of fun. After the short educational talk, we each took a turn at tempering the chocolate before making bars and adding different filings. Afterwards, we had a tasting session while bars set in the fridge. Top tip - you can make additional bars for $5 - this is a bargain price and the bars will make great gifts.
It’s something that’s fun to do. Who knew making chocolate would be so easy. Our instructor explained everything so well! We had so much fun. It was a beautiful atmosphere.. I had a great time.. and the chocolate is delicious too! Go try it!
This was a such a fun experience. There was only 6 of us but it was intimate, interesting and informative. The host also let us be interactive in assisting with the making of the chocolate. and the end they did a chocolate tasting with prosecco. The space itself was super cute ,clean and quaint. Highly recommend this experience! I ended up buying some chocolate to go!
Really interesting. Nice people working there. Super yummy chocolates! Loved it and would highly recommend.
This was a wonderful experience Juan. Was very knowledgeable and I was shocked at how long it take to make real chocolate.
Absolutely loved how relaxing and seamless this tour was. The chocolate making experience was fun in a cool, laid back atmosphere and the very knowledgeable guide (Lando) made it so easy from crafting to tasting. The downside is your handmade chocolate won't survive the heat, mine melted before getting back to the hotel. Nevertheless, do the tour. You'll also get sparkling wine and free samples. The place is absolutely beautiful too, very clean and smells good. Shout out to the couple from Cayman Islands & the besties from the USA who added their sparkle to the tour. A very small group of us made it so much easy to get undivided attention from our guide.
OK - simply ok - do it if you want to kill time and waste your money. We learnt about the chocolate making process. But putting melted chocolate in a mold and sprinkling toppings on it was very basic and not worth the price. While I loved the taste of the chocolate, both my teen kids hated it. They refuse to eat the chocolate we made amounting to $180 (for 4 tiny bars).
A beautiful interactive lesson of cocoa and chocolate making. The drink pairing and tasting was an added touch. Highly recommended.
This was a super friendly and fun experience and the making of chocolate was explained very well by Rolando. There was a large group of people and all were accommodated with patience and kindness.
Very hands on and fun. Recommend to anyone wanting to learn about chocolate in Panama. The team was fun to interact with
Host knew exactly what he was talking about and made the experience exceptional for not only me, but my 5 yr old daughter
Hi, i just wanted to share and mention about my last Friday night visit at bar with my fried before went to show that when i asked for receipt, i was only given the payment machine without the actual receipt.i need itemised receipt, so that was a bit frustrating ,waitress name believe jean. i thought it would be helpful to let you know.
My family loved this experience at Nomé. We learned all about the process of making chocolate and got to taste the cacao bean at each stage. The guide made it fun and interactive and seamlessly transitioned from Spanish to English. Getting to make our own chocolate bar was also a cool experience. While our bars cooled, we had a chocolate tasting of all of the Nomé varieties. Highly recommend the Geisha coffee flavor. My kids are 12 and 8 and really enjoyed this experience.
Great information about chocolate production. After we made our bars, we did a tasting. Well done! 👏👏
Great educational experience A+, very informative enjoyed the experience and the knowledge provided in this tour.
Chocolate shop which offers a experience and instruction in panamanian chocolates. The class lasts about an hour and a half and costs thirty five dollars person. Initial introduction and instructions and education about cacao beans and production was educational and instructive. Firsthand experience then in cooling and tempering the chocolate, and then making your own bar. Finishing with a taste of different small chocolates while waiting for your bars to cool. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
Fun experience learning how chocolate is made and then making and testing chocolates either the group.
It was a fun time. Our instructor was fun and knowledgeable. His demonstration was engaging. It was fun having a part in the chocolate bar making process. There was also a chocolate sampling at the end which would be fun for big chocolate lovers.
Everyone was friendly and spoke English. The candy bar making is upstairs but is open to shop and dining below so the acoustics made it hard to hear at times. You get to see cocoa pod and taste actual cocoa seed. Where the cocoa is grown in Panama and how it is made into chocolate is explained. Then you get to help cool the chocolate on marble table. Then pour chocolate into mold and add toppings. Next you go downstairs and get little pieces of the various chocolates that Nomé makes with varying amounts of cocoa and other ingredients and two specialty filled chocolates with your choice of water or preseco. By the time you finish the chocolate bars you made have chilled and are ready to go. We learned some new things about chocolate and enjoyed our experience!
I can say so many positive things about my experience with the Nome staff today, but then I'd be writing a dissertation, and I don't have time for that, lol. Simply put, the staff was very friendly and informative and he gave us indepth details about the entire process of chocolate making and I can truly say that I left Nome with more knowledge about Chocolate than I had when I arrived. The process was fun and educational and I would recommend them to anyone whos looking to learn the basics about preparing chocolate and wanting a fun experience at the same time. I was thoroughly pleased, please check them out! You won't be sorry!
We had so much fun. A great experience for any chocolate lover of all ages. We got to learn a lot, try some treats AND make our own bar. Super easy to get too, i would definitely recommend!
It is a wonderful experience and Rolando is great teacher! The chocolate was amazing. The place was easy to find and everyone was very welcoming.
