Itinerary
Historical context and tropical fruit tastings (guanábana, borojó, orange with raspadura, tamarind sweets) Start your journey at Mercado San Felipe Neri, an emblematic site whose name honors San Felipe Neri. The current building is a rehabilitated gem that preserves the essence of Panamanian popular commerce since the mid-20th century. Begin with a sensory introduction through tropical fruit tastings. Enjoy natural juices while learning about guanábana, prized for its medicinal properties, and borojó, known as the “fruit of love” in the Darién region. Taste refreshing orange with raspadura, the artisanal sugarcane sweetener that has fed Panamanian campesinos for centuries, along with traditional tamarind sweets.
Continue into the heart of the market, exploring the animal products section and learning about the importance of using the whole animal in subsistence gastronomy. Here, you will be introduced to Sao, a pickled pig’s foot dish with deep Afro-Caribbean roots that arrived during the construction of the Canal and became a staple of popular celebrations.
Then experience the Panamanian table at local fondas, where workers traditionally enjoy their “plate of the day.” Taste a variety of dishes including bistec picado, bacalao with coconut rice, plátano en tentación, and guacho de mariscos, a thick rice soup representing the fusion of sea and land.
Walk toward the seafood market while discovering the historical area of the old fiscal checkpoint, where goods entering the city were once controlled. Observe artisanal fishing boats and learn to identify key species such as corvina, red snapper, tuna, and mackerel.
Near the entrance of Casco Antiguo, stop at a traditional kiosk to enjoy ceviche, either corvina or octopus marinated in fresh lime, paired with a local Panama Beer or Balboa.
Continue to La Playita, where you’ll enjoy a refreshing raspao with condensed milk while discovering the striking contrast between the historic Casco Antiguo, founded in 1673 after the destruction of Panamá Viejo by the pirate Henry Morgan, and the modern skyline of Punta Paitilla and the Cinta Costera.
From there, walk through Avenida B and the famous “Sal Si Puedes” passage, once a crowded and labyrinthine hub of Asian and local commerce. Cross through Plaza Santa Ana, which in the 19th century served as the political and social center of the arrabal, the area outside the walls of Casco.
End your experience at the historic Café Coca-Cola, the only café in the world outside the United States that was authorized to use the brand name in its early years. Opened in 1875, it has hosted politicians, intellectuals, and figures such as Che Guevara. Close with hojaldres and tortillas de maíz, accompanied by a national coffee. With this, the journey comes to an end — with the heart full of history and the palate full of Panama.

Catherine was warm, welcoming, and deeply knowledgeable. She shared the rich history of the neighborhood and its culinary traditions as if we were taking a walk with a good friend. Our most favorite parts were the food stalls at the Mercado de San Felipe and the personal connections. Thank you Catherine for a wonderful experience.
Oh, I had the best time! I’m gluten free, so navigating a different culture and language in Panama City was challenging. Cathy is a trained cook and I learned so much about the foods of Panama. The ceviche was especially amazing. We came back after to bring some back as fresh as possible. You can feel her love for food, her country and for sharing it with people.
Great tour. Catherine was very knowledgeable and and food was amazing!
Catherine was awesome. The tour was a good pace and had amazing food.
The Panama food crawl was great! We had a great variety of foods to try, and everything was very flavorful. Our guide was amazing—very passionate, knowledgeable, and informative. You could really tell how much he enjoys sharing the food and culture of Panama. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend this food crawl! Highly Recommend Cathy!!!
This food tour was my favorite part of my Panamá trip. Cathy was a pleasure and full of pride in her country and made sure that my group and I got the most authentic Panamà food experience. We went to a local grocery store, fish market, and food court area to learn about how the foods are sourced, what chooses to be stocked, the routines of fresh fish being delivered, tried some food and juices, and even got a chance to shop for some things to bring back with us to the states (my whole group bought some hit sauces lol). We also went to the Coca-Cola restaurant to try some food, learned the history, and had some Coke too! Like I said before Cathy, herself, was a pleasure. She was so sweet, full of pride, and just amazing. Definitely one of my favorite tours I’ve ever had in life and she was one of the best people I’ve met. I wanted to take her back to Florida with me lol. Definitely book this tour for your next Panamà trip, if you haven’t done so already. I also heard she hosts cooking classes or she cooks for the tourists and that’s something l definitely want to do the next time I’m there. I left with a new friend and more than enough knowledge about Panamà.
Great walking tour with Cathy. She was very informative and patient with our group. Our last stop at the Coca Cola Cafe was a perfect ending.
Katherine was an excellent guide for our food tour around Panama City! We got to try lots of traditional Panamanian food and hit up some interesting spots. I would highly recommend her tour; she’s great company. We learned a fair amount and got some good samples around town.
What a wonderful experience sampling Panamanian cuisine! Catherine was so knowledgeable and personable and we had such a fantastic time. This experience was one of the highlights of my trip.
Cathy is an amazing tour guide, and she provided a great experience, filled with the little touches that makes these tours worth going on.
3 hrs of walking and tasting typical Panama food. Bring family and be ready to walk and shop if you want not mandatory.
CATHY IS THE BEST TOUR GUIDE EVER !!!!
Cathy was wonderful. She knows many of the vendors at the markets and the history of Panama. The tour was very relaxed. We went at a comfortable pace and she adjusted for food preferences. Cathy has a passion for learning about people and worldly perspectives. I am grateful for her willingness to share about her own experiences and the home she loves. I would happily do this tour again.
Had a great time with Cathy. She was knowledgeable and friendly. Great food and conversation. Highly reccomend!
This was a great walking and eating tour experience. Tanya was friendly, knowledgeable, and communicative. She found us easily at the market. The tour began with a walk through the meat and fruit and vegetable markets before sampling some food. We then went over to the seafood market where we sampled more food. Finally, we walked through parts of Casco Viejo and had gelato at a lovely local shop. Overall, great experience!
This was an excellent tour. I highly recommend it. We went to local markets and tasted locally sourced food. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and mixed information about local foods and customs with history. We “tasted” our way thru neighborhoods and had ample time to learn about the Panamanian culture thru its good! ! Sat down for a local beer and ended in the historic Cocoa Cola Cafe. Excellent experience!
Catherine provided us an education of Panamanian food and history. Along with showing us around many foodie sites in old town Panama.
Catherine was a good guide. She was knowledgeable about the area and Panama. She was personable and hospitable. I will recommend her to my friends and family that visit Panama.

The Tour was wonderful and Catherine the Toyr guide made it a wonderful and personable experience. It was 10 out of 10 experience and I would recommend it to anyone coming to Panama for the first time especially the Casco Viego area. It wasn’t too long and it wasn’t too short.. Caroline was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The tour didn’t feel rushed. It moved at a moderate pace for everyone..

The chef wonderful, so much knowledge about panama foods, spices and restaurants. Especially liked the fish market and fine chocolate shop.
This tour was amazing. From the knowledge of the tour operator to the food, it was great from start to finish. We would do this tour again.
Catherine was fantastic. Great tour, great food, great company! We really enjoyed seeing places we wouldn't have gone on our own.
You will experience the REAL Panama with Catherine - an energetic, insightful, and knowledgeable tour guide. Catherine will ensure that you visit all the highlights and TASTE the city: fresh squeezed juices from fruits you’ve likely never seen; smoky roasted pork, grilled chicken and traditional bacalao (salted cod fish); your choice of ceviche (we didn’t know there were so many different types!). A well-paced three hours learning the history of the country and the people but with sweet treats! Catherine was warm and embraced us like family; because of her, we have a wonderful appreciation for Panama. Muchas gracias, Catherine!!

With all of the restaurants in the main tourist areas, it would be easy to visit Panama and completely miss the great flavors of local food culture. Catherine did a great job taking us to various markets and street food vendors, and painted a fuller picture of life in Panama, its culture, and its food. Highly recommended!
At the outset, our tour guide, Catherine, was absolutely amazing Welcoming, engaging and knowledgeable, our culinary adventure began at the oldest food market in Panama, albeit modernized since its inception. The smells were virtually intoxicating. Starting with an array of local exotic fruit juices that joyfully awakened our taste buds, we graduated onto tidbits of fruits encased in the ubiquitous sugar cane indigenous to Central America. These resembled jelly candy, but with an unusual flair. Strolling onto an outdoor seating area, Catherine ventured back to the market returning with goodies including “sopa de carne con vegetales”( meat soup with vegetables), hot and delicious, along with plantains of some sort, something called bollo (sp?) presumably made from a combination of corn meal and whatever else that simply enhanced the offerings. Already reaching a state of belly fullness, we took a lovely stroll through parts of Casco Viejo onto the fish market and the nearby fishing boats. Catherine then introduced us to ceviche, the citrus “cooked” raw fish, calamari, shrimp, “mariscos”, which accompanied by a cold Balboa ( the national beer) set off yet another tasteful delight. Finally, we capped off the tour with another stop for cappuccino ending a perfectly lovely gastronomical adventure.
Excellent tour, good food, excellent tour, super good spots!!! 100% recommended And I recommend Catherine to you
