My dad and I went on this tour and wow. We had gone to casco viejo that week two other times and I feel like this was the first time we really got to know the real panama. Juan was super knowledgeable and kind and answered all of our questions about the intricacies of panamanian life in casco and right outside. You will have missed something big if you don’t do casco viejo with Juan!

My tour ended up being a solo tour which was great. I got to learn a lot about the city and history and enjoyed walking to places where I would not have gone by myself.
made this experience truly memorable. His expertise extends far beyond Casco Viejo itself. He provided fascinating insights into Latin American history and how it has shaped this historic neighborhood. I can’t speak to other tours, but based on this experience, this is the one you need to book. What impressed me most was the comprehensive scope of the tour. It ventures outside Casco Viejo to show you the broader context of Panama City’s tourism boom and how the city has transformed over decades. The timing was perfect, with a stunning sunset viewing and fresh ceviche that provided the ideal ending to the experience.
Juan was an amazing guide! The entire tour was ~ 2 hours. We walked through the current barrios, fish market, and the entire Casco viejo! He even showed us the best places to go for the best value. Highly recommend! We were surprised to see that he only has 2 reviews right now, best experience ever !!
Juan is very knowledgeable and I love his attitude. Very funny. Had a great time and learned a lot..
The Overall experience was AMAZING. Hector messaged us early before our tour start time and let us know where to meet. Once the tour started we took a deep dive into the history of the country. Hector was very knowledgeable and passionate about his culture. If you're looking for a tour off the beaten path, looking to connect with the true Panama, this is the tour for you. Finally we ended at the market where we had the Ceviche, I'm a foodie so that was great also. I would do it over and over again if I got the chance. Can't say enough how much of an amazing experience this was.
Our guide, Hector, was great about accommodating our requests (the type of info my parents wanted to hear more about). Although I'd already done research about the history of the area, I learned plenty that was new to me. Those interested in booking this activity should know that it includes going outside of Casco Viejo to the neighborhoods of Santa Ana and El Chorrillo, which would be considered unsafe to walk around without a guide, though we definitely walked around safer areas in those neighborhoods full of families playing and elderly people hanging out. Also, it wasn't one of those less respectful tours where people go and kind of gawk at the working class people; we just walked through some main streets and talked about the history and social context.
Great private tour as we were the only ones signed up. We arrived in Panama in the afternoon and this was the perfect tour to fill the rest of our day to kickstart our vacation. Our guide Hector offered us a historical perspective to the real Panama that your can't get in the gentrified tourist zones.
It wasn’t what we were expecting. As first time visitors to Casco Viejo we were expecting to spend the tour time mainly in Casco Viejo and see historic sites in Casco Viejo and be shown important sites within Casco Viejo.
Great historical experience! It was informative and enlightening to Panamanian culture. Amazing views and we appreciated the diversity of scenes.
The tour was amazing! We really enjoyed every moment — it was fun, informative, and very well organized. We learned a lot and had a great time. Highly recommend!
Juan is an exceptional guide — he is highly knowledgeable, kind, and just the best. This tour is thoughtful and engaging. An absolute must for anyone visiting the city.
This was an amazing tour! Juan was an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. He knew history, biology, politics and so much more and he is clearly well-respected in the community. I saw so many neighborhoods and learned so much that I never could have known nor traversed safely on my own. He made the tour safe and the final stop at the Fish Market had the best ceviche of my life! Just fantastic!
Juan grew up in Panama City and has witnessed its rapid growth over the last 20+ years. His tour is an off the beaten path view of the working class neighborhoods surrounding the gentrified Casco Viejo. You will view murals depicting social and political issues, enjoy amazingly fresh ceviche at the fish market, and get a taste for how much Panamanian history there is to learn.
Juan was an amazing tour guide! Great learning the history of Panama City, the mixing of cultures and well and some of the not so glamorous things about the city. You do go into a more dangerous area of Panama City with Juan to learn but he made us feel very safe and is very familiar with the people there.
This was one of the best tours we have ever went on. Juan our guide took us through the inner part of Panama City to let us see how the city is changing through gentrification. Informative and heartbreaking at the same time seeing the poorer sections of the city.We also stopped at the fish market for some of the freshest ceviche we ever had. If you want to really see the heart and soul of Panama City, I highly recommend.
This was a great tour to see the old city and learn about the history of Panama. It was very eye opening to experience a bit of the true local culture. People were friendly and we had a delicious sample of fish ceviche at the fish market. Overall great experience for anyone that wants to see the Panama City of old.
This tour gives you a behind-the-scenes look at Casco Viejo that you will not get on your own. We went to areas that are truly locals-only, and at the same time, saw how gentrification is happening right before our eyes. Juan knows all about the area and we learned so much. Not to mention, the ceviche was DELICIOUS! My husband truly enjoyed this tour and we highly recommend it!
The gritty but colourful Panama City tour. During this tour, I visited local areas typically overlooked by visitors. I was able to watch children playing football, to seeing some of the hidden, less curated parts of Panama City in El Chorillo, to having ceviche with locals at the fish market. Very thankful to see this much forgotten part. Truly authentic!
We took this tour one evening when we had free time. I highly recommend as it was a very interesting summary of the history and changes that have occurred in Panama over the past years. Juan was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. The stop in the fish market for the ceviche was delicious. The walk took us through parts of Panama that we would not otherwise have seen up close.
This was a great tour to see all sides of Panama and understand more of the city's history, present, and future. Juan provided an excellent overview of the social history of the Chorrillo neighborhood and surrounding area.
Juan is very knowledgeable and has a lot of pride in Panama and love for the people and culture. Glad I did it.
Our tour guide Juan was very knowledgeable and took us through some of the old town that showed us another side of the old town. A real eye opener and a bit disturbing to see how some of these people live. However this is true of any big city everywhere. We also stopped for a taste of ceviche at the fish market, very good and fresh. This was a very good tour and would recommend it for people that want to see areas just outside of old town. Not really for kids and wear closed in shoes.
Enjoyed getting acquainted with less touristic parts of Panama City. And the ceviche there is very good.
Excellent walking tour with a highly professional guide. Highly recommended. You will get to know come history of Casco Viejo while walking through its streets.
I made a reservation a week before my trip and stayed in Panama as a stopover for a whole day. I found this walkable tour in Casco vieja with description of "unique", there I met Juan and he really kept his word! A very unique and wise person, he taught me a lot about Panamanian culture and its corners that usually one as a tourist, would not do. I really enjoyed my tour and will be booking more when I return soon! Thanks for everything Juan! Keep shining! 😊
With Hector it was a great tour. Lots of info and you get to places you wouldn't have seen otherwise. The tour is highly recommended and worth every cent
