This was a whole day trip! It was both fascinating and fun, you walk through naval forts from colonial times while also learning local culture of the area which is just fascinating, then you relax on the beach it’s great! Ricky was fantastic! Would let him guide all of the trips, he was knowledgeable and funny and easy to talk to and understand, he’s bilingual. I would recommend you bring swim gear as well as comfy clothes! This trip started at 9 and ended at 7:30.

After driving for an hour and a half from the city, visiting Portobelo can be a fascinating cultural experience. The town's central square features a majestic Customs building, which has been converted into a museum that vividly displays the history of African people who arrived on these shores during the Spanish colonial era. Many locals are descendants of these people and represent the vibrant Congo culture that thrives in this town. The Congo culture has been officially recognized as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Fuerte San Jerónimo, close to the center of Portobelo, was the largest fortress ever built to protect the bay. San Jerónimo is the most complete of Portobelo's accessible forts and makes for the best visit.
Casa Congo is a beautiful place featuring nine rooms filled with local identity and art. Situated in front of Portobelo Bay, this public, inclusive space has been built to host training workshops, artisanal production, and artistic exaltation. Visitors can experience various manifestations of Congo art and gain a deeper understanding of the rich Spanish-colonial and African historical legacy in Portobelo.
The Museo de la Real Aduana de Portobelo, also known as the Royal Customs House Museum of Portobelo, is a captivating historical landmark that provides a glimpse into the town's thriving maritime history. Housed in a 17th-century building, the museum exhibits the town's significant involvement in global trade and its ties to Spain and other world regions.

We had a great day out with Ricky, exploring Portobelo and then at the beach. We chose this tour because we wanted a bit of variety - culture in the morning and beach in the afternoon. We were supposed to take the tour a couple of days after the earthquake but we were informed that many of the sites we would visit would be closed for safety reasons. The tour company were very helpful in allowing us to reschedule the tour for the next day. The tour gave us a chance to learn some of the history of Portobelo while looking around the town. We then went to meet our boat to Mamey Island. The boat trip goes via monkey island to say hello to a howler monkey, through the mangroves where we saw a ray, and through the mangroves tunnel of love. Once on the island we had time to relax and swim and eat the delicious lunch we had chosen from a range of options. There are very clean bathrooms on the island where you can shower and change. All in all it was a very enjoyable trip.
Riggo was an absolutely phenomenal tour guide and gave our group one of the best days of our entire trip to Panama. From beginning to end, he was knowledgeable, personable, patient, and genuinely passionate about sharing the Caribbean side of Panama with us. What really stood out was how flexible and accommodating he was. He took the time to clearly explain the history, culture, and significance of each place we visited, while allowing us to enjoy every stop without ever feeling rushed. The entire day felt authentic and personal rather than like a typical scripted tourist experience. Riggo’s knowledge and warm personality made the experience even more memorable. We learned so much about Panama’s Caribbean roots and culture while simply having a fantastic time together. If you’re visiting Panama and want an exceptional guide who will go above and beyond to make your day special, I cannot recommend Riggo highly enough. Five stars without hesitation! Thank you, Riggo, for an unforgettable experience and a truly phenomenal day!
Caribbean portobelo tour!!! A one of a kind experience. We were blessed to have the tour guide such an amazing tour guide. Jorge was amazing, he was super knowledgeable, he was so patient, didn’t rush us at all, super funny and overall so sweet. Jorge did such an amazing job telling us about the cultural and what everything we saw today represented. 1000/10 tour guide, Jorge eres maravilloso. The island of mamey was sooo beautiful. Clear and blue waters. The sun was amazing and the people were so sweet. We were also fed , which was so amazing , we had filet fish with side salad and tostones with rice, OMG, SUPER GOOD LORD THOSE PEOPLE CAN COOK!!! We were able to go into the tunnel of love which was super beautiful and finally ended off with the natural pool, Such an amazing experience 🩵🩵🩵 1000/10 experience
Aura was absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend her. She was very knowledgeable of Panama overall and specifically provided a deep dive into the history and culture of Colon/Portobelo. I look forward to many more excursions with her.
The trip to Portobelo took us 2 hours and 30 minutes. The guide was enthousiastic, but his English was insufficient; he had simetimes to use google translate. We did not see the Casa Congo or the Royal Customs house museum. The boat trip to Mamey Island was a joke, waste of time.
Very recommended if you are interested in all sides of the Panama' s history, at the same time you can swim in cristal caribean water. Riggo was the best, hope to see You again☺️
Even with heavy rain in the morning and cloudy skies all day, Aura made it a very enjoyable day. Don't let clouds and some rain keep you from enjoying swimming in pleasant Caribbean waters.
There are tours and then there is rolling with Charlie! If you want to see Panama, take a tour. If you want to EXPERIENCE Panama, roll with Charlie! We left Panama City and took a scenic drive to Portobelo and learned the whole way and back! The sites were amazing! We stopped at a natural swimming spot, a private beach, ate great food and took awesome pics! It’s what you NEED to do if you’re doing anything at all in Panama!🇵🇦
We had a great adventure! Charlie L. has an incredible knowledge of Panamá, both its history and its contemporary reality. We asked many questions and he was always ready with an in-depth answers. This was especially important as we discussed the African and indigenous presence in Panamá, specifically Portobello. Much of this his-story is not in our schoolbooks. So we really appreciated learning more! In addition, my tío, who is 80 and born in LaBoca, CZ was with us. Charlie was attentive to his needs and also swapped stories of their experiences growing up on the Canal Zone, noting all the changes over the years. I very much appreciated Charlie’s care and generosity. And the beach! Lovely and relaxing, followed by a great lunch. This private tour with Charlie L was the definite highlight of our week in Panamá! Will definitely be back!
Amazing and caring company. Roderick is a fantastic person to work with. I highly recommend. Easy and fast communication. Will use again for sure.
I gifted this tour to my mom, and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. She was picked up on time, and the transportation was comfortable and safe. The guides, Roderick and Charlie, were absolutely amazing, attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They made the entire tour interesting and fun. My mom truly enjoyed learning about the history of Portobelo, visiting Fort San Jerónimo, Casa Congo, and the museum, where she discovered more about the colonial era and African influence. She was also fascinated by Playa Blanca and the Venas Azules; the crystal clear water and scenery were like a dream. It was a day full of culture, nature, and peace. Thank you, Roderick and Charlie, for making this an unforgettable experience! Definitely the best tour to explore this Caribbean gem.
This was a wonderful private experience. We started the adventure with a prompt pick up at our designated location. We had a comfortable ride to our first stop, we even were given an opportunity about half way through the ride to go to the restroom and grab snacks and drinks for our beach day. Charlie was extremely informative and taught us a lot about Panama’s history and culture. We had an AMAZINGLY flavorful lunch, got a private boat ride to and from Isla Mamey. We even did a tour on the boat and saw even more amazing sites before we even made it to Mamey. We (2 women) felt extremely comfortable in Charlie’s care, he looked out for us the entire time. The entire day was better than we could even imagine. We hope to stick with Charlie for any future tours! Well worth the money!
Aura our guide was amazing. She is super friendly and full of fun facts along the way. So much history to soak in. I will caution this is a cash only excursion so go to ATM before hand. Lunch was so good I would have licked my styrofoam plate! Even my 13yr old tore up his food! Bring water shoes too! Isla Mamey was a little rocky in parts of water.
We had a great excursion to Mamet Island with Charlie. The trip was for my father’s 80th birthday. We were well looked after and they took especially good care with my dad getting in and out of the boat and walking around the island. Mamey Island was spectacular and the picture perfect beach to spend the day. The beach is sandy and easy to get in and out of with very few waves in the middle of the Caribbean. We definitely recommend. Highlight of the trip. And Charlie was the best guide!
The views were amazing, we took so many photos. Awesome day trip outside of Panama City. Hidden gem where locals go when they enjoy their own country. So much history. The lunch was delicious, variety of options available. The boat ride over was actually a boat tour to beautiful isolated sections as we made our way over. Much more than expected. This tour can be and was catered to our specific interests. Would do again 100 percent.
This was a fantastic day trip out of Panama City. Our driver and tour guide Roderick were very attentive and knowledgeable. We were given the option of which parts of the tour we wanted to concentrate on and where we wanted to spend the most time. We opted for equal time between Colon, Portobello and Mamey Island since it was our first visit to Panama. The views from the Forts were beautiful, they are also UNESCO sites. It was also a great cultural experience visiting the museums and church. The boat ride over to the Island was not just a straight shot. It’s a boat your we went through the mangroves and hidden coves on the way over. The Caribbean Sea side of Panama is a must, the water was clear and perfect temperature. The meal that was provided was actually the best food we had while in Panama. Everything was delicious, and there is a variety of options. Seeing all the locals enjoying the food was a great sign. There was majority locals everywhere we went which made it a very authentic experience. I know there are things I’m forgetting, It was a great day memorable day with no regrets. Highly recommend.
Our guide Aura was fabulous- professional, knowledgeable and friendly. We were excited to travel outside Panama City to the Caribbean. What we didn’t know was that Mamey Island gets very crowded on the weekends. We went on a Saturday and pretty packed. The water was also very choppy ( this is unusual), so I was nervous but have to say the boat drivers were excellent.
Had a great time visiting the Caribbean side of Panama with Aura. Lots of great sightseeing and a beautiful afternoon at the beach!
The tour was as expected, beautiful but Aura was the difference, her knowledge, patience, passion is what made the difference, thank you.
Roderick and Ricardo are the best tour guides! So informative and so much knowledge and history shared about their city. This country is beautiful on its own, but the people make the culture, and they bring the beauty of Panama to life. Roderick and Ricardo gave us a glimpse of that, and allowed us to experience it first hand. Thanks guys.
We had a great time on the Panamanian Aventures Portobelo tour. It was myself, partner, and our 1 year old son. Roderick the owner/manager confirmed the pick-up time the day before. Our tour guide was Harry. He was very polite, courteous, and very attentive. Harry shared a wealth knowledge about the history, culture, and current conservation efforts of the Caribbean coast of Panamá. He is an experienced guide and we felt very comfortable with him. We enjoyed touring/learning about Portobelo and spending time at the beautiful beach. The lunch was delicious and our tour also included ice cold water and beer (if you’d like). We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Panamá!

I enjoyed the island and the trip to Portebelo. Must visit. It was calm and refreshing to see. Thanks to our guide.
Excellent tour of Portobelo and Colón with a guide from Rigo. Immaculate organization, deep knowledge of history and narrative with passion and humor. It made the experience pleasant, authentic and absolutely informative. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to actually get to know Panama. Rigo is not just a guide, he is a man who loves his country and conveys it with love, humor and professionalism.
The tour is personalized and Carlos our guide was commenting and answering what we were interested in. The journey that lasts about two and a half hours becomes pleasant and on the other hand once you leave the highway the road borders the sea with beautiful landscapes and later there are also mountains. It's a scenic route. With regard to Mamey Island you can access it through a small boat trip of about 15 minutes and the place is unspoilt , without great influx of people but with amenities such as chairs, tables , shade and obviously a dream landscape with palm trees and a warm and transparent sea. You can also snorkel if you wish. And at noon they bring you lunch, which is very rich. The whole experience is wonderful and having a guide like Carlos is of course a great plus.
It was a great trip and Charly was a wonderful tourguide.he gave us a lot of interesting information about Portobelo and playa blanca
I gave this tour to my mom and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. She was picked up on time and transport was comfortable and safe. She was also fascinated with Playa Blanca and the Blue Veins; the crystal clear water and landscape were dreamy. It was a day full of culture, nature and tranquility. Thank you Roderick and Charlie for making this experience unforgettable! Without a doubt, the best tour to know this gem of the Panamanian Caribbean. Travel with my son on a tour to Portobelo, including a visit to the historic walled area and the beach. The tour was great and I recommend it. The service was very good, with permanent monitoring of my activities. Special mention is made of the work of Juan, the guide, who was very diligent in everything.
Complement in itinerary Good service Pending responses Kindness Ease throughout the tour
Excellent experience! We went to Columbus, all too beautiful and not to mention our Guide Aura, as the name says is Aura PURA !! we had an amazing time, my mom was blessed and the experience was unforgettable. Recommended 100% ❤️🎊
Portobelo National Park is spectacular with crystal clear waters for bathing. . Very good explanations from the Roderick guide especially about the shrine of Jesus Nazarene, the fusion of cultures in Portobelo and the explanations about the construction and functioning of the defensive wall of the city built by the Spanish.
