Tony is a true local and knows the area intimately. We saw many of the major sites, with Tony providing pertinent information. Even though our walk had to be rerouted because of tv filming, we still saw a great deal.

You start the tour at Oxford's oldest college and hear a brief history of Oxford & the University. Note that we do not go inside any buildings during the tour. If you are interested I recommend you visit after the tour, where you can spend as much time as you need, rather than being rushed.
You will learn about the history of this museum & its collection, many of which were owned by famous people.
You learn about the architect, the history & what the theatre is used for, including two Oxford University historic ceremonies.
You get to see a bridge that wouldn't look out of place in Venice & how its used in an annual Oxford University tradition.
You learn all about the history of the buildings that make up the library, its links to our Kings, how its collection was created & how it is used by students today.
Probably Oxford's most photographed building. But what is it? Hear about its history, its architects & the use of its hidden tunnels.
Hear about the trial of Oxford's martyrs. Note that we do go inside as part of the tour. The entrance is free.
See a unique market full of independent traders & an amazing Galatia.
Hear about a town & gown incident that epitomised the relationship between the Towns People & Students dating back 600 years.

We had a two hours walking tour around historic oxford with Tony. We have learnt a lot, both the dry facts and the interesting stories about the sites, Tony was very friendly, knowledgeable, and added personal stories about the sites. Thank you Tony.
Great introductory tour to Oxford with fun facts and interesting stories. Highly recommend Tony as your guide!
We had an absolutely fantastic tour with Tony and cannot recommend him highly enough. His passion for Oxford is infectious, and his knowledge of the city’s history, architecture, and hidden details is outstanding. The tour was engaging, entertaining, and full of fascinating stories that really brought Oxford to life. Tony made the experience feel personal and relaxed, and we came away having learned so much while having a wonderful time. A truly memorable tour and a highlight of our visit to Oxford.
An amazing tour. Tony knew Oxford and its history and sights like the back of his hand. We would highly recommend joining Tony for a stroll around Oxford. Incredible value for money.
Tony’s very friendly, knowledgeable, and humorous demeanor put my husband and I at ease as we walked around the city like we were the friends of a local just out for a stroll. His love for the city and university shines through while he provides the history and relevance of each location. We took so many pictures and now understand Oxford in a way we never would have if we had just wandered around on our own. Thanks, Tony!
We loved our afternoon with Tony. He clearly loves sharing his extensive knowledge of Oxford, and we enjoyed spending time with him. A lovely host.
A very good experience with Anthony around Oxford colleges, amazing knowledge of the colleges, Extremely enjoyable day, even though the weather didn’t behave towards the end. Definitely would recommend this tour with Anthony, Such a pleasant fellow indeed
Being a “local”, doing a walking tour is something you keep meaning to do but never get round to doing do but the wait was worth it . Tony is such an engaging and informative guide, mixing facts about the University together with local history with added humour and enthusiasm. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.
Having just moved to Oxford, I was keen to get under the skin of the city—its history, character, and all the little stories tucked between the cobbled lanes. From the get-go, Tony had us all completely engaged. His knowledge runs deep, but what really stood out was how effortlessly he connected the dots—thoughtful, seamless, and with a good dose of humour. One moment we were taking in the grandeur of a famous college, the next we were tucked down a quiet lane hearing some wonderfully odd little story that brought it all to life. What really sets Tony apart, though, is his love for Oxford. It shines through in every story he tells. He’s got that rare knack for mixing thoughtful insight with fun, offbeat facts—so you’re learning loads but never once checking your watch. I walked away feeling genuinely more connected to the city. So whether you're brand new to Oxford or just curious to see it in a new light, Tony’s your guy. Not just a guide, but also one of the best ambassadors this place could hope for. Thanks, Tony. That was honestly such a treat.
We had a great tour with Tony & a group of friends. Lots of interesting facts & stories about Oxford and it's history. A good mix of information delivered in a friendly & chatty style with a mixture of university and city historical facts and anecdotes. The tour visited some of the most famous & picturesque areas of Oxford, even the rain didn't dampen the fun as Tony took us to the covered market where we learnt about it's history and connection with the colleges and local people. Highly recommended.
This was a really enjoyable and informative tour. Tony is an excellent guide who is very welcoming and delivers the tour in a nice easy to follow style. I particularly liked the emphasis on recounting interesting stories about Oxford and it's history rather than just delivering a rather dull list of facts and figures. Even as a local who grew up in Oxford, I learnt many new and fascinating new facts about my home town. I came away having thoroughly enjoyed the tour and feeling better informed and enthusiastic about the place that I call home.
I just went on a tour with Nigel, what an amazing guide. His was the best tour I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable, engaging and funny. I strongly recommend booking a tour with him. Thanks Nigel
I was hosting a business delegation from China and asked Tony to take us on a tour of Oxford. My guests were really happy and impressed with Tony's knowledge and level of detail that he could describe the history, architecture and context of events. They were still singing his praises later that evening well after the tour had finished. Thank You Tony for a lovely evening. I learnt things about Oxford that I hadn't known, and I live here!
The Oxford Walking Tour with Tony was really outstanding. We gained a lot of insights about Oxford and the area, heard funny and interesting anecdotes and learned a lot. Tony knows his stuff very well, past and presence, and every question got a quality answer. He is just so knowledgable about modern as well old history, knows about architecture, literature and Oxford university. Moreover he is a great storyteller and so the 90 min just flew by. Thanks, Tony !
It was such a fun tour. Small group so it allowed for more interactions and more personable. Tony had a great knowledge about the city as well. This a tour for those who don’t like the big crowds and who favor a general overview of the city.
Tony is an old friend of mine. He has a deep knowledge of the history of Oxford and its colleges, which impressed me and my wife. I worked for decades in the Tokyo office of a British company called Oxford Instruments until I retired two years ago. I have visited Oxford more than 100 times on business and have even taken Japanese clients to Oxford and Blenheim Palace. So I thought I knew Oxford well. This time, I visited Oxford for the first time with my wife on holiday and took a good look around with Tony. It was then that I realised Tony's deep love and knowledge of Oxford. I would strongly recommend anyone from any country to take a tour of Oxford with Tony, as long as they speak English. He is a kind, passionate and funny man.
We are all local to Oxford but decided that we could do with knowing more about its history and buildings, so spent a great hour and a half with Tony on a Friday evening. Going round a relatively small area in the centre of Oxford, we learnt so much that you'd never otherwise find out. Great insights and historical stories! We realised that we walk around with our eyes closed much of the time, missing lots. Tony brought it all to life and we'll enjoy our city with a new outlook and plans for new things to do. Thanks very much for a fun evening.
Excellent tour well conducted great guide lots of history thoroughly enjoyed what a tour guide unbelievable xxxxxxxxx
Highly recommend this tour, even if you live in Oxford! We had a friend visiting and decided to book a tour to show them around. Tony was a fantastic tour guide, and very knowledgeable. He tailored the tour to our group, providing local suggestions for must-do's in Oxford from restaurants to festivals, as well as historical and architectural knowledge. Having the tour in the evening meant the buildings were lit up, showing detail that wouldn't be as striking during the day. Excellent tour. A must do!
We had the most memorable experience in Oxford with Tony as our private tour guide. A few of us were running behind but he graciously waited and didn’t mind the late start. He took his time showing us around the various colleges and he’s such a wonderful storyteller. We learned so much in 4 hours and everyone was entertained by the rich history and the surrounding beauty and architecture. At the end of the tour, Tony recommended a lovely restaurant called The Red Lion where the food and drinks were fantastic. Thanks again Tony for a wonderful and memorable time!
Tony is fantastic! We had a wonderful tour and appreciated all the information, insight, and stories from a local’s perspective. Easy finding him and we learned so much about the city and Oxford University in the short time we had, which was so much better than wandering around aimlessly without knowing what things are. Highly recommend!
Tony is a fabulous guide with stories and detailed facts. Unfortunately we had significant rain during our tour but Tony continued on and we learned a lot. It was a great introduction to an interesting city. Highly recommend!
If I could give this tour 10 stars, I would. If you're on the fence: do it. Tony was incredibly knowledgeable about Oxford university and town: he was able to answer every question my partner and I had about the history of the area. We learned so much! I can't imagine visiting Oxford without starting with his tour. We were able to appreciate the area so much more than we would have otherwise. We can't wait to return to explore more of what he showed Us and we'll be recommending this tour to anyone headed to Oxford.
booked tour in advance for our group of 9 on a Saturday morning in Jun 2023 and we arrived at meeting point ox high st. Guide did not turn up and phone was off and we were on our own.
I took a tour with Tony, and I can really recommend it. Tony enthusiastically told us stories that are not found in the history book. Sure, we only got a small impression, but two hours were a pleasant length for a tour.
We had a wonderful walk through Oxford with Tony. We particularly appreciate the fact that he did the tour with us, even though we were the only guests and therefore had a private tour with him. He told us wonderful stories about Oxford and the tour was a great experience for us. We can recommend him 100%, especially to those who prefer an individual tour in small groups.
