We are so glad we chose this particular experience and the transportation that came with it. It was very easy to meet the van in London and avoid worrying about the train schedule and possibly missing the tour. Dougl was a wonderful driver who gave us fun tidbits of information during the trip to and from Oxford. Also, we have nothing but glowing reviews for Hannah, our tour guide at Oxford. Her tour was not only very informative, but she displayed a wonderful sense of humor that kept the tour fun and lively. She was also sensitive to the needs of one of the people in our group who moved a little slower. The tour itself was informative and detailed and covered quite a bit in 3 hours. We highly recommend Footprints and this tour.

One of Oxford’s oldest colleges, its grand medieval façade offers a striking glimpse into centuries of academic tradition. Covered Externally.
Known for its elegant Georgian architecture and spacious green quadrangles, the college presents a serene and timeless scene along Broad Street. Its storied history dates back to the 16th century, adding weight to its graceful exterior. Depending on availability on the day of travel, this site is usually entered if possible - otherwise an alternative College will be used.
With its ornate chapel spire and richly detailed stonework, this college creates a picturesque corner of Turl Street. Founded in 1314, its exterior reflects the enduring legacy of Oxford’s medieval scholarship. Covered externally.
A charming blend of old and new stone buildings, it is most famous for the nearby Bridge of Sighs. Its setting along Catte Street captures the cozy intimacy of Oxford’s historic lanes. Covered externally.
Its soaring tower dominates the skyline, a landmark that has welcomed visitors since the 15th century. Surrounded by lush grounds and riverside walks, the exterior radiates both grandeur and natural beauty.
Seen from Turl Street, its honey-colored walls and traditional college gatehouse offer a perfect snapshot of Oxford’s architectural heritage. Founded in 1427, it is steeped in history. Covered externally.
Housed in the world’s oldest surviving purpose-built museum building, its distinctive façade marks a place where centuries of scientific innovation are celebrated. Covered externally.
A bold, modernist contrast to Oxford’s medieval stone, the Weston offers a clean, symmetrical exterior. It houses rare manuscripts and treasures of knowledge, reflecting the city’s enduring academic spirit.
This ornate Gothic monument commemorates the Oxford Martyrs of the Reformation. Its spire-like design and intricate carving make it a moving visual landmark.
Designed by Christopher Wren, its elegant curves and classical detailing stand out on Broad Street. Historically used for university ceremonies, it remains a symbol of Oxford’s grandeur.
The college’s medieval walls, often used in filming, are visible from the street, offering glimpses of a 14th-century institution that played a key role in shaping Oxford’s identity. With your Oxford University student guide, you will hear about day to day College life.
An icon of Oxford’s intellectual heritage, the Bodleian’s exterior is a masterwork of English Gothic architecture, representing centuries of scholarship. Made up of over 20 different buildings, we will cover some of the main locations in central Oxford externally, whilst also entering the Western Library (part of the Bodleian) and Divinity School, the oldest part of the Bodleian Library/
This distinctive covered bridge, arching gracefully over New College Lane, is one of Oxford’s most photographed architectural features and a romantic symbol of the city.
Arguably one of the most iconic sites at Oxford, and part of the Bodleian Library. With its grand dome and circular form, the Radcliffe Camera is one of Oxford’s most recognizable landmarks, embodying the elegance of 18th-century neoclassical design.
Its impressive twin towers and refined façade present an image of exclusivity and prestige, reflecting its unique history as a graduate-only college. Covered externally.
A stunning example of English Gothic, its spire is one of Oxford’s tallest. From the street, the intricate stonework speaks to centuries of religious and academic history.
Founded in the 13th century, Merton’s crenellated walls and medieval architecture make it a living monument to Oxford’s earliest collegiate traditions.
This sweeping green expanse offers tranquil views of the River Thames and the college towers, a pastoral counterpoint to Oxford’s stone streets.
With its Harry Potter filming connection, and wealth of history; this is one of the best Colleges for a visitor to Oxford to enter. See it's imposing Tom Tower designed by Christopher Wren and centuries-old architecture, Christ Church is one of Oxford’s most iconic and historically significant colleges. This tour includes entrance, when you will be given a Christ Church audio headset and able to explore at your own pace.
This is the section of the Bodleian which the tour will enter. One of the most popular sites for filming in Oxford (used in the filming of Harry Potter, in multiple scenes) and even more important as the oldest part of the Bodleian Library.

I had a fantastic experience on the three-hour tour with Trystan as our guide. We covered the main sites, the information was interesting and relevant, and the tour proceeded on schedule despite unpleasant weather. Footprints as an operator was extremely professional, contacting me well in advance when there was a change in admissions at Christ Church for the day I was originally booked and allowing me to select another day (although disappointingly, even though Christ Church itself was open the day of my tour, the hall everyone had come to see was still closed to visitors, but that's not the tour's fault). I highly recommend this company and have already booked their Cambridge tour for later this year.
We had a wonderful tour with George - he gave us a lot of insights on what it was like to be a student, as well as history and inside info. He was also very kind to wait for us as we were late - parking is tough to find!
My day trip to Oxford was made easier by being picked up in London. Leanne was on-time and a good driver. She told us a bit about the drive, then I was able to sit back and enjoy the views. Her much choice was terrific and at the right volume level. She provide demographic information as we came into Oxford and delivered us to the tour starting point. My tour guide was Hannah, a recent graduate of Trinity College. Her tour was informative and entertaining. We kept to our timeline, and although it was pouring rain, she found us drier spots to stop and tell us about the university, the history of education in England, the important people who constructed and attended the various colleges. She also explained how the student are taught at Oxford, that I really enjoyed. My only knowledge came from watching Oxford based TV shows, so I learned quite a bit from Hannah. Great job!
I highly recommend this tour! My tour guide, Saga, was absolutely wonderful! She was so knowledgeable and shared the history of Oxford University in a fun, story-telling manner. There was plenty of time to enjoy each stop on the tour, and all questions were answered brilliantly. I also loved that each group was small (my tour group had only 7 people), and the tours were led by Oxford students/alumni, which was lovely.
We had a wonderful visit to Oxford. The travel was easy and convenient. Our tour guide in Oxford, Hannah, was fantastic - the information she gave us was the perfect mix of student life, history, and Harry Potter. Highly recommend!
A wonderful walking tour. Easy to find the meeting place and the ‘check-in’ was simple and efficient . Really well organised. Alex, our guide, was considerate and kept us all together (only 5 on the you which was also great) and safe. It was an easy walk with frequent stops. Alex was amazing with interesting knowledge and fun facts. She really was incredible. The time flew by. Oxford is a wonderful place and Alex was a wonderful guide. Thank you!!
Hilberto was amazing!!! Thank you for the best tour!!!
Dougal was a most pleasant guide and driver. His knowledge and anecdotes were very enlightening and entertaining. Our guide in Oxford, Hannah, was energetic and full of fun stories about the university. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
Ross was a brilliant guide and made two hours disappear like it was nothing he was incredibly knowledgeable, funny and recommended lots of great photo spots. The tour was brilliant and we got to see a lot of Oxford and the University. I highly recommend this tour to anyone thinking of taking it.
We signed up for the extended Oxford tour and we had Ross who is a PHD graduate from Oxford as our guide. He is both engaging and knowledgeable. It felt like having a history lesson on Oxford with him. We enjoyed listening to his personal experience living and studying in Oxford which is so precious. We truly appreciated that he was mindful of the time so that we had sufficient time exploring Christ church with the audio device. Overall, we would highly recommend this tour and our tour guide. Thank you Ross for the incredibly enriching experience!
Hannah was such a great tour guide on our Oxford university tour, very friendly, entertaining stories about college life in Oxford and just a winning personality that makes you like her immediately. There were so many details about the University and the Colleges that were both interesting and entertaining. 5 stars for Hannah! One downside to the your is that the Christchurch college cathedral was closed for an event.
It is a must in Oxford. It is a city that I have visited many times but the guided walk filled in the many gaps in my knowledge of the history of the colleges and university and university life.
Tour was very piecemeal with lots of wait time. Group was very large and we could not hear the speaker. This definitely was NOT the private tour advertised. I recommend you do the free tour with the Oxford Tourism Office and save the money.
Such an interesting and comprehensive tour! The Colleges and indeed the whole system of Oxford University wouldn’t be understandable without a guide, at least they make it so much more relatable, especially if the guide was an Oxford University student themselves. We had the great luck to get Hanna as our guide. She is so passionate about her tour, she talked nineteen to the dozen, and every little bit of information was remarkable, astonishing or simply funny. She was really interested in our questions, too, and answered them knowledgeably, so that at the end of the first two hours we were sad to have to let her go. The self-guided tour to Christ Church College was interesting as well, though we were quite exhausted at the end of the third hour, and would definitely recommend bringing a snack to eat between sights.
The tour was well organized and gave us a great introduction to Oxford. Having a student guide made the experience even more interesting, as we got to learn more about the history, culture and student life at Oxford University from a personal perspective. We were also lucky to have such lovely weather during the tour. Overall, it was an enjoyable and informative experience!
A fine tour at a fair price. Our guide was engaging , knowledgeable and entertaining. Knew the university. Knew the history. Shared volumes of information on both. A truly educational and enjoyable experience overall.
George was spectacular! What an incredible wealth of knowledge! The tour was engaging, informative, and I highly recommend.
Very informative and our guide Riccardo was very knowledgeable about the Uni as well as the local history.
This was a great tour. Leeann was our driver from London to Oxford and back and she did a wonderful job dealing with all the traffic. Valentino was our guide in Oxford. He was FANTASTIC! He was very knowledgeable, shared a variety of fun stories, and had an obvious love for Oxford. He was a great tour guide!
Our tour guide, Ross was just amazingly informed, friendly, and humorous. He answered all of our questions and added a huge amount of detail which came from personal knowledge since he is an Oxford graduate. The whole tour was simply delightful and actually worth more than we paid. Yes, it was that good and the guide was superb.
Our guide was very nice and passionate! It was a real pleasure to listen to him! I usually lost interest in what guides explain pretty quickly but Oscar tell stories with so much passion that I wasn't bored at all. The group was not large so it was pleasant too. All the colleges were beautiful. The interior was stunning ! It was funny to learn so many fun facts about students traditions there !
The tour was excellent. Our tour guide Ross was very knowledgeable, he even gave us a bit of extra information based on the questions that were asked. It was very informative.
The bus driver was very good and our guide Oliver was excellent. He definitely made the tour entertaining. However our pick up destination was unclear in the morning and finding our own way back to pick up area after the tour was not great. Over all loved the tour.
Ben was an absolutely wonderful guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this informative and interesting tour.
Our guide, Riccardo, was excellent. With a mixture of his personal experience and what I’m sure is the standard routine of the tour, he kept our group entertained and engaged throughout, while giving us a genuine sense of what it is like to be a student at Oxford. The combination of Oxford’s rich history with its modern student experience made this tour especially memorable. The tour was also very well organized. We started at Trinity College, where we went inside, and then visited the Bodleian Library and Divinity School, before passing by Merton College and All Souls College. Riccardo packed a lot into the two-hour walking portion without ever making it feel rushed. Our group was intimate—three of us plus another two groups of two—which made the experience feel personal and gave us plenty of opportunities to interact with him. After the walking tour, Riccardo brought us to Christ Church, where we went inside and continued with the audio-guided tour. This was a wonderful way to finish the experience, especially for my husband, who is a Harry Potter fan. Tickets for Trinity College, the Divinity School, and Christ Church were included, which made the tour feel like excellent value as well. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oxford. Riccardo’s knowledge, personal perspective, and engaging style made the history come alive, while the variety of places we visited gave us a wonderful introduction to the city and university. It’s a tour we’re very glad we did and would absolutely recommend.
This was a wonderful experience, and our tour guide Ricardo was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and friendly, he truly is the gem of this tour
Ricardo was an excellent tour guide.
We were very disappointed as we wanted to see the Bodleian LIbrary since we are huge Harry Potter fans. We were advised after booking that the Divinity School would be closed on the day of our visit and were offered a refund, but upon arrival in Oxford, was informed the entire Bodleian Library was closed, which was not communicated to us prior. Upon checking in at Oxford, we voiced our concern and were offered a refund but would have had to find our own way back to London. Since we were there, we decided to stay and our guide, Riccardo was fantastic. Very knowledgable and witty. We did get to see Christ Church, but this tour was not as advertised, so that was disappointing.
Valentino was fun, witty, and informative. We highly recommend.
Ross was an excellent guide. His enthusiasm, wit, and knowledge made for a wonderful introduction to Oxford. Great experience!
We were very fortunate to have Riccardo as our guide. Excellent in depth knowledge of his subject and of Oxford student life. Great to see the 3 colleges, especially Christchurch and the eponymous Great Hall. Even though The Bod was not possible, Riccardo gave us a very good picture
I enjoyed this tour. It went at the right pace and our guide, Ross, told us just the right amount of information. Adding on the Christ Church college was the icing on the cake! It made the tour a lot longer so have a big breakfast! If Ross is reading this, I found my hearing aids back at the hotel. Definitely a senior moment which Ross handled very well. Thanks 🤩
Oscar was our guide. He was fun and enthusiastic and made the tour very enjoyable. When I booked the tour I thought it was expensive but it included entrance to 3 colleges and Oscars time and knowledge made it well worth the money. He has not only learnt the history of Oxford but has experience living there and answered all questions from everybody in the group. Hr gave us the time we needed to take in our lovely surroundings and the information he gave us. A five star tour and guide.
I was only in Oxford for the day, and I was advised to get an organised tour as the best way of seeing a lot of places. This tour had good reviews and I liked the idea of the extended tour. Initially I was a little put off by the price, but what the heck, I was staying in the Malmaison, so I'd obviously decided price was not an obstacle. The Tour was fabulous. Very informative. It went to all the right places and ending in Christ Church was just brilliant. I can't remember our guides name, but he was Australian and did clever things in IT Science. He was friendly, engaging and seemed genuinely proud to have been part of the "Oxford experience" as a student. I am so pleased I took the advice, as this is an excellent way of being introduced to the sights, stories and history of Oxford.
Hannah did a great job today! We learned a lot about Oxford and college life with all of its history! We loved her jokes and her explanations. Also she was very open and confident. Well done!!
George was our guide today. He is a graduate of one of the Oxford colleges so was able to offer first hand perspective along the way. He did a brilliant job sharing the history and stories, and tying it all to a big picture puzzle. He answered our many questions and paced the tour in a way that worked for all in our group. This was definitely well worth the price!
Our Oxford Day Tour with Footprints Tours was a great way to see inside several colleges including Christ Church College and the Bodleian library. Tour guide Ross was fabulous! Lots of stories about the history of Oxford university and personal stories about college life from his own experience. Bravo Ross!
Our tour with Tino was fantastic! The information shared was both fascinating and entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour and hope you are as lucky as we were to get Tino as your guide!
I am writing to express my disappointment with the tour we attended. The experience was not worth the £429 we paid for our family of three adults and three children including a £69 charge for a five‑year‑old, which was unreasonable given the quality of the tour. The tour guide was a student who was new to Oxford and had very limited knowledge of the city. Having lived in Oxford for many years myself, it was clear that much of the information shared was inaccurate or superficial. The tour was advertised as an extended city tour, yet there was no meaningful city exploration, no tour bus, and no proper viewing experience. The entire group of adults and children were disappointed, and the tour lacked substance from start to finish. Several participants returned their headsets halfway through because they were not useful. Instead of an engaging and informative experience, we were left walking around aimlessly, with everyone becoming tired, hungry, and thirsty. Overall, the tour was massively oversold and severely under‑delivered. Given the cost and the poor quality of the experience, I am formally requesting a full refund. Thank you.
With two attractions closed, the Bodleian Library and the Christ Church Cathedral, I felt it overpriced. When emails came out, I was offered a chance to cancel, but I was unaware of how big those were. Tour should have been discounted.
The 3 hour tour by an Oxford student is amazing. I learned so much. It's beautiful there. Top tour I've taken.
A wonderful Tour with lots of Information and insight on Oxford University and its various colleges. Sam did a really good job explaining how it's run and what makes it so unique.
EJ gave us the best tour that you could imagine. Very informative, extremely witty and entertaining, and with lots of personal stories. The tour itself would have been even more attractive if one of the old libraries would have been included.
A great trip! Riding with Dougal was great and he gave us lots of information as we rode. Our tour with Sam was fantastic! What a great guide! His passion for Oxford and its history is unmatched. He was so willing to make our trip perfect and we appreciate it so much!! 5 stars!!
Isabella was a fantastic tour guide! Everything was great from start to finish. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the tour really enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend her to anyone visiting Oxford.
Fantastic walking tour. Rory was our excellent Oxford ambassador, winding us through key Oxford sites with stories, legends, alumni experience and historical facts. Well worth it.
Nick was very friendly, approachable, and made the trip go by fast. We did not notice how much we walked until he left, and then we felt it. Ha ha ba
Very nice driver (Leanne), more patient with delayed guests than most would have been. Very good guide within Oxford (Hanna), told us about the history, gave us insights into life in Oxford as a student and resident, was open to questions and gave the group rest stops as needed. The small group was just the right size that a few questions came up but not too many to keep the group together or stick to the schedule. If you want to improve something, an hour or two more in Oxford would have been nice though it is amazing to get a first experience of the town/university. Absolutely recommend you choosing this experience. Great value for money, best for getting a first overview of the city and university.
A great tour. Ross was an excellent guide. Would highly recommend based on our experience with him.
