We stayed 1 night after visiting Highclere castle. The superior king had a comfortable bed & the room updated was modern & clean, it was in a one story annex that had outside patio & no stairs. The standard double room was also comfortable & clean but looks in need of a new carpet & bed. The pub is on a country lane, not walking distance to shops or main town. There is a restaurant that has a good menu, we didn't eat here so I can't comment. The drinks in the bar & staff were very nice & friendly. Perfect stop for a budget overnight stay.

Stayed here for a family wedding which was being held about 15 minutes away. Great location, peaceful with nice views around the area. Large garden area with picnic tables if you want to sit and enjoy the sun or just be outside. Plenty of parking available. Rooms are well kept and come with pretty much everything you need or may have forgotten such as body wash/shampoo. There are limited plugs around the needs do you may want to consider bringing an extension lead if you need to plug in more than just a phone, which can be plugged into the table lamp which has 2 charging ports available, however if like myself you need to plug in medical equipment (CPAP) this would be helpful for you. Definitely recommend staying here though and if we need somewhere in the area again (or maybe just want a night or 3 away from home) The staff and team are brilliant and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, nothing seems to be too much trouble for them either. Thank you all for an amazing stay, at will be back at some point that's for sure.
Rooms were okay, but there was a terrible smell of sewage right by our room. The bathroom was very old fashioned and basic. Breakfast was okay, but inly bacon sandwich included...I expected a full English for that money.
Power went out in my room multiple times. . Used my electronics for rest of holiday at other places and power didnt go out once. Room was filled with all you need including tv, bath and a nice bed. Food was a tad bit simple but considering prices were good for pub food. Continental breakfast included included in room booking. The normal breakfast menu looks better but that costs extra and you get the continental with your room. Id rather not have the continental included in room and be able to pick another breakfast for the money saved.
Having previously been a regular at The George and Dragon in 2009, I was excited to revisit with my children. Whilst there has clearly been some changes made, it is still a good place to pop in for a pint and meal and, weather permitting, soak up some sunshine in the surrounding grassed area at one of the several picnic tables. I feel that some of the vintage charm the pub had in 2009 has been lost in terms of the decor eg - dried hop vines removed, television added to the bar area, older decorative pieces removed, skittles alley replaced with more accommodation, but this is just my personal taste and had no impact on the quality of the food and service. However, there have been some great improvements made to the bathroom facilities. We all enjoyed our lunch which was served relatively quickly (there were a quite a few others there at the time), portions were reasonable as well. There is plenty of car parking available on site for all vehicle types. There are several rooms available if you would like to stay the night. Certainly worth popping in to the George and Dragon at Wolverton Townsend. We had a great time and was fantastic to see some of the locals we first met there 17 years ago are still regulars there.
