Parador De Cangas De Onis

Spent 4 days of our Tour of Cantabria and Asturias at this wonderful Parador. We've stayed at a number of Paradores over the years but this one is definitely right up there with the best. Special mention for all the staff who were exceptional.

This parador makes for a pretty nice stay. The rooms are fairly modern with decent beds, decent bathroom with a good shower head and water pressure, good and quiet AC, and a TV that you can “cast” to from a personal device. We stayed with a dog and the ground floor room had a covered, private outdoor sitting area where one could hang out with the pet. One negative to staying here might be the breakfast situation. It is a typical hotel breakfast buffet with numerous options and, here, presented with a slightly corporate feel. For €22/person I would have expected that the floor of the dining area would have at least been swept of the bread crumbs, etc. from the previous night’s dinner service. And since there are no other nearby breakfast options in the area, you are kind of stuck with this unpleasant situation.

A typical, beautiful Parador experience and if you've not tried it before do treat yourself. Here we ate in the bar and watched the world cup. The room for us and our dog was excellent with a door straight out to the garden. Set close to the Picos D' Europa, the surroundings are gorgeous.

Tranquil location with lovely walking along the river but too far from town to walk in. Beautiful building and restoration, interesting history, and spacious high quality rooms. High quality service but dinner service was very slow on our first night when the restaurant was full. Food mixed - from extremely excellent to a little quirky. Breakfast range huge but basics (natural yogurt) run out on second morning.
