Great place to visit Something for every age in our group . Places to sit down as well
The two adults and one teenage boy spent almost three hours enjoying the interactive Viking Planet. We learned, we played, we experienced. From the VR game to the detailed timeline, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience!
We were amazed by the fun we had. Virtual game was great and we will never forget it:-); Museum is great too, we loved the 4D cinema (we went twice) and all the other sections were perfect with digital experience. We also loved the "selfie" corners to try weapons and clothes. One of the best ever experience from a museum. I can only recommend. It is a "must" in Oslo. Especially with teenage kids:-) We purchased ticket upfront online for a time slot we wanted, no waiting time, no stress. We stayed approx 2hours. We were lucky there was no crowd and we could enjoy the museum really well. Staff was very nice and even took pictures during our Virtual game. Athmosphere was relaxed and joyfull.
Virtual reality is fun. The museum has lots of information and interactive opportunities. There are 3 short films to watch. The location is very easy to find.
We'd read mixed things about this before we arrived, but I think a lot of the negative reviews are those of people who had gone in expecting one thing and finding something else. It is very much sold on the VR aspect, but it is much more than that! We went for the combined Museum and VR game ticket - we'd recently done another VR thing back home and got the bug to try out some more. The VR game is approx 15mins, you act as a Viking on board a long ship using a bow and arrow and sword to protect your ship - although visiting as a couple, we both played separately...arguably, I think it might have been more fun to both be on one boat side by side but that's probably a technical and logistical nightmare. You don't learn an awful lot through the game, but its a fun way to approach history. Downstairs, the museum was great - so much information, presented in modern and interactive ways, which makes the information much more accessible than seeing items behind a glass cabinet in a stuffy museum. The 270 cinema experience was great to give you a real feel for life in Viking Norway, and through the other exhibits you learned about Viking battles, Norse Gods & Mythology, different roles in Viking society, items Vikings would have used from long boats and weapons to craft items and furniture. It really gave you a sense of what life was like under Viking rule. The VR experience downstairs is fairly short, and a bit of fun, to end your visit - it is certainly not the main event. Staff were friendly and helpful, the museum felt spacious and wasn't too busy on a weekday afternoon, with exhibits available in multiple languages. The gift shop was well stocked and had some different items available to a lot of the usual tourist tat you get in these types of venues usually.
What a brilliant experience. Olso is such a great city to explore… but I was seeking some historical element from our trip, and typical ‘museums’ aren’t really my thing. This experience was a great way to learn about the Vikings… in so many different and engaging ways, with multimedia videos, digital displays, VR etc… and all at our own pace. I also got the chance to ‘Ai’ myself into a Viking warrior princess and did the VR video game so I could imagine myself attacking the enemy! (I honestly enjoyed it far more than I ever expected!) I’d certainly highly recommend it!
It was a very great experience which gives you a whole perception of the viking history. The museum is very well organized - you can get an information about their normal life, used sheeps, clothes, jewellry. The VR experience was interesting as well. You can also take a photo by using different AI option to see yourself as a viking.
It was fun:) and very informative! The staff was nice and helpful. Really good for children especially for teens. There is a lot of interactive things to do.
We had a great time at the Viking Planet, learning much about the vikings and enjoying the VR experiences. Would recommend visiting!
This was a great little Museum with some very nice interactive activity. It even engaged 2 teenagers. The Virtual Reality part is quite basic but still enjoyable for a museum - Conrad the assistant at the VR part was very entertaining so well done to him
Very interesting. Glad we went! We will recommend it to others. We were part of a group tour and wish we would have had more time.
What an excellent and informative experience, not to be missed! Very well put together and so immersive, perfect for all ages.
We are three generations of one family who have just enjoyed a short break in Oslo, together. One morning the heavens opened and so we booked The Viking Planet as an indoor attraction. As one of the older generation, I was somewhat sceptical about the visit. How wrong I was!! We had a brilliant time wandering through all the exhibits. Unquestionably the highlight for all of us was the Virtual Reality showing of 'The Ambush'! So much so that I would actually advise making this your last port of call. It was an amazing experience. Truly worth the entry fee - and staffed by a group of really friendly and helpful people.
Amazing place very interactive, staff so helpful, and friendly. I would definitely recommend it. We will visit again. VR is excellent
Although recommended by Lonely Planet, we were hugely disappointed. It was very lightweight on Viking history; and while the virtual reality experience might have been impressive 10 or 20 years ago, it looks very outdated now.
Would be fun if i was a 12yo. There was nothing new or interesting, i learned nothing. The VR was kinda okay though. I dont reccomend jt for adults
Located next to the Alle Tiders shop, The Viking Planet is the world's first entirely digital museum that uses cutting-edge technology to bring Nordic history and mythology to life across 1,600 m² without any physical artifacts. The museum offers total immersion thanks to a 270-degree cinema, a virtual reality film aboard a longship, interactive warrior holograms, and a digital gaming area with personalized selfies.
This museum is a real highlight, especially for families with children. The exhibition is designed to be interactive, so children can actively participate and experience history in a playful way. This keeps the museum visit exciting and varied, without having to work your way through endless rows of vase fragments or old objects. It is precisely this successful mix of knowledge, entertainment, and participation that makes the museum a special experience. We have already been here for the third time and are thrilled every single time. We can wholeheartedly recommend this museum; a visit is worthwhile for both young and old.
Lousy. A disgrace what they present. Three non-tech games you can watch on YouTube. They last 3/4 minutes. A real scam
We start with virtual games, Buenisimo, you travel in a boat fighting the arrows with other warriors, very exciting! There is also a virtual movie with battle included, very good!
An almost totally digital space. A good approach to the world of Vikings, however, the essential is there and the films are beautiful.
Here you pay much for little! Using VR was an interesting idea, but it became too simple. Now that many have VR at home, I expect more than basic from a professional player. This will be a tourist trap.
I've been to this place with my children, and we've been literally fascinated by how the history associated with technology has been able to represent the exploits of an extraordinary people. To be redone ..
I killed 58 enemies and realized that I am super-broom in archery. The Viking Planet Museum is very small and nestled not far from the port, it’s full of empty virtual reality stuff and it’s overall very instructive. We've died several times. Once during a drakkar ride and several times during the virtual game where you have to shoot archery all the time, to protect the boat. If you want to learn more about the mythical civilization that gave birth to Game of Thrones, that’s pretty fucked! The price is correct even if the extra for the game a little expensive...
We booked for 3 people at 4:30. We arrived 8 minutes late because we got lost and at the reception they already protested! We were in the middle of the tour and it closed in our faces! But, if we wanted something to buy from the store, they would expect more! I mean, we couldn't do the whole experience! It's expensive so they can't wait for or people already inside to finish the tour! It's interesting but empathy 0. It cost nothing to wait another 15.20 minutes for us to finish the tour.
