Our group loves walking tours and this was one of the best we have done in any city. Shaf was an excellent tour guide! This tour is a great combination of food, Norwegian culture, and local history and a lovely neighborhood walk. We loved each of the stops… sampling hearty stew and a variety sausages, amazing hot chocolate, one of the best waffles I have ever had, and smoked salmon bites were the highlights. Rain or shine, I highly recommend spending a part of your day with the team at Oslo Way!

Reviews
First of all. I would like to say Jack was great. But after that, my review is not so great. My husband and I have done food tours all over the world and this was the most expensive one and our least favorite. For $175 we only had three food stops that were actually not very interesting. We were pretty disappointed in the lack of food on this tour. Again, I would like to say Jack did a great job, but I would not recommend this tour to anyone traveling in Oslo.
Fantastic information re: food and culture (preservation). Delicious food and lots of variety (and filling)! Entertaining and knowledgeable guide (Shaf).
We loved our tour today in Oslo- we at delicious food and just as importantly got insights into Norway's history and culture. We loved the reindeer stew, the salamis, the waffles - all of it- and our tour guide Shad was excellent and engaging.
Great tour with Jack. Very knowledgeable and great food. Good for teenagers as well. Enjoyed touring the neighborhood too.
Shaf was knowledgeable and a fun tour guide. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our vacation.
Jack is an engaging guide and the food sampled was lovely but limited to 3 stops. I felt it grossly overpriced for the area covered and food sampled.
Jack did a wonderful job helping us understand life as a local. We walked through a beautiful part of Oslo that is off the beaten track of “tourists”. The food on the tour was very good. Next time we’re in town we plan on getting reindeer stew and waffles again We are hooked. It was so good!
Great way to learn about Norway, its history and culture, see Oslo and experience great food and drink. Shaf, our guide was terrific! Great way to start a visit of Oslo!
Shaf and Kat were very good guides, and we were able to taste a variety of foods. I appreciated that the tour was "off the beaten path" and gave us a different perspective on Oslo. The amount of food was just about right - I've had other tours where only got very small bites, and others where I was completely stuffed by the end - this one was good and we still had appetite for a late dinner. Thanks!
We loved this tour. Shaf and kat were fabulous guides, engaging friendly and informative and we were with a lovely bunch of people on the tour - 9 of us in total so small and comfortable. Great mix of sights exploring a lovely area of town, interesting history and tasty food. Highly recommend this tour - great value for money we thought.
This tour is a great way to learn about Oslo's history and culture and eat some yummy food along the way. I booked this tour only a couple of days in advance and was the only person booked - Shaf was kind enough to run the tour for me anyway which I really appreciated. Shaf was incredibly knowledgeable and the food stops were delicious. Highly recommend this tour!
Val was a great guide and provided lots of great insight into Norwegian food and culture.
Shaf was very very knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about sharing the history and culture of Norway. The tour was worth every bit of money and time. I wish we had a longer tour with Shaf. Thank you for offering this valuable experience!!!
We had a great time with our tour guide Shaf. His stories and information was fun .Getting to taste authentic local food in small neighborhood restaurants was a special experience.
Quite an amazing eating experience with Shaf! I would have never ordered the delicious foods we ate, but to my surprise, they were all delicious. Shaf provided explanations of the food before we ate. He discussed the culture and offered insights into the neighborhood we walked through. A great way to get to know Oslo neighborhoods and enjoy an amazing array of foods along the way. Highly recommend Shaf and this tour.
We had a wonderful time with Shad! He was so insightful and full of great conversation imparting Norwegian history throughout the tour. Shaf was amazing at showing us around the Grunerlokken area and took us to some great local eateries! Great tour!
Shaf was great! Loved the cider and reindeer stew. I usually don't like stew, but that was delicious.
Great tour with yummy food! Shaf is an engaging and informative tour guide. The food choices were spot on and gave a good overview and variety of popular food options in Oslo. If you need alternative food or drink options let the tour guide know in advance at booking and they will happily support your needs. Small intimate group. So glad we did this tour.
Shef, our guide, was friendly, informative, and selected a tasting experience that spoke to the history and culture of the Oslo region.
I had the most incredible tour with Shaf. His attention to detail was superb! His knowledge of the history of Oslo and his knowledge of local food was impressive! He was friendly and personable. He gave me lots of great recommendations for both dinner and drinks as a solo traveller! Thank you Shaf for a wonderful tour!
Nice blend of authentic Norwegian cuisine. While I am glad they switched up the menu to include salmon, it is a bit odd to combine that with hot chocolate. My favorite was trying new foods like the reindeer stew and whale salami with the brown cheese & aquavit jelly. The Norwegian waffle was also delicious and a great way to end the tour.
Andreas was a very entertaining and knowledgeable guide. The food stops on the tour supported the story of the Norwegian culture. The length of time and amount of food served was perfect. I would highly recommend this tour.
Let's start with our guide, Shaff! He took wonderful care of us through our brief exploration of this trendy and vibrant neighborhood. Tasty bites and a beautiful sunset were had along with morsels of thought-provoking knowledge.
Very nice experience in Oslo, our walking tour with a lovely guide was perfect, we enjoyed it a lot, and he deserves 5 stars review for his guiding skills. Thank you
Food was delicious and walk around town was informative and fun! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting to get some quick food ideas and information on the area.
The tour was informative and fun. We spent three hours enjoying delicious (and not too much) food and along the way great stories about Oslo and Norway. The walk was quite doable (stairs) and well paced. This is a great way to learn about Norwegian society snd culture.
Hated beer choice on first stop Bartender would not change for a different beer even though it was a tiny glass. Small amount of lukewarm stew and sliced meat was just ok there. Went next for a tasteless cinnamon bun and hot chocolate at a tiny stop with zero atmosphere. Last stop was a waffle ( after a cinnamon bun! ). The place only had 6 seats all infested by bees. We couldn’t even stay there to eat All 6 left tour prematurely! Who wants two desserts in a row with hardly any food on a FOOD TOUR? Insane disappointment for a lot of money With that being said, Alicia was very nice. It wasn’t her fault.
This was a great tour, the guide Shaf was very nice and he explained everything about the food, area and norwegian culture, he also answered every one of our questions. The food was amazing, they were able to offer options to a peschetarian like me, I especially enjoyed the fish cake and Norwegian waffles. 100% recommendable
Shaf was a great tour guide. Great reindeer stew, charcuterie plate with beer. Walked the neighborhood, hot/cold chocolate, cinnamon bun. Finally a waffle. Very informative. About 3 hour tour.
We had no idea what to expect as this tour had been set up on our behalf, but we were really delighted by the whole experience. Shaf is a warm, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide who went beyond the basics to give us very interesting insights into Oslo life and culture, relating to both the specific neighbourhood where we walked as well as to the more general. The food was all delicious (that cinnamon bun! those waffles!) and a great springboard for learning about what makes Norway Norway. Thank you Shaf!
We had a great time on this food tour! Isak (sorry if I got the name wrong!) was very informative and did a great job keeping us engaged and answering all our questions!
Great overview of city and lots of local food. Alicia was a great guide, enjoyed all the unique food we tasted
Good tour, good food, good guide :) It's a mix of a food and walking/culture tour, in a less touristy area in Oslo. Not the cheapest, but definitely enjoyable and our guide was so patient with us asking a million questions :)
The food was delicious and Jack, our guide, shared lots of great information about this cool area! Even the Norwegian in our group learned something new about his city.
Fun to experience restaurants you might have never tried and learned some of their history. Be open to trying new local foods!
We absolutely loved the Grünerløkka Food & Culture Walking Tour! Our guides Andreas and Erika were not only incredibly knowledgeable but also warm, funny, and truly passionate about Oslo’s history and culinary culture. They brought the vibrant neighborhood of Grünerløkka to life with their stories and personal insights. From tasting delicious local treats to discovering hidden gems and street art, every stop was a surprise. The balance between food, culture, and history was perfect. Andreas and Erika made everyone feel welcome, answered all our questions, and created a great group atmosphere. If you’re visiting Oslo and want to experience the city through the eyes of locals – this tour is a must!
Ingrid was very knowledgeable and very interesting to talk to. Food was amazing and a nice variety of choices. Also, we stopped at a few interesting spots and got some information on the area.
Andreas was a wonderful and enthusiastic guide. There was lots of food, a fair amount of walking, some hills, and it was totally worth every penny.
Our planned food tour of Oslo was canceled by the tour operator due to congestion in the city. We found this tour as a substitute and we were not disappointed. Ingrid was a very informative guide with great insight into the Grünerløkka district. The many food varieties Norwegian wild game charcuterie, wild game stew, hot and cold chocolate with cinnamon roll and finally Norwegian waffles were tasty and satisfying. No need to eat dinner.
This tour was such a fun experience…not only did we walk around an interesting neighborhood and eat delicious Norwegian food, but our guide, Ingrid, did an amazing job filling us in on facts about Oslo. She gave us a wonderful local perspective and answered our many questions with ease. We would highly recommend this tour!
Great way to see a different part of the city, learn about Norwegian culture and history, and try some quintessential Norwegian foods!
Shaf is an excellent tour guide. He is fun, knowledgeable, and interesting. (Super likable human being!) My sister and I have been on several other foodie tours in the US and in Europe. This one was unique: fewer restaurants, full size servings and not samples, and less hurried. Thanks to Shaf for the tour!
It was a great sample all foods Norwegian. Our guide was wonderful not only explaining the origins of the food, but shared a lot about the culture and history of these neighborhoods. We took a taxi from the city center as we were not sure of location, but did walk easily back afterwards.
Our guide, Shaf, was wonderful. He was knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the food. We loved our food tour and highly recommend it!
Shaf was our guide and he was excellent!!! He blended humor and intimate knowledge of the area into a fun, tasty and educational tour! The Grunerlokka area has a really cool vibe. I highly recommend this tour!
This tour was fun! It was cool to try all of the different meats. I really did like the vaffle as well. Our tour guide was good! He wasn’t a huge story teller but more just stated facts about Olso. I personally wouldn’t do this again but worth it to get a good vibe of Oslo at the start of your trip
Shad introduced us to some great samples of Oslo food and history of a specific neighborhood. The best treat of the day was waffle with raspberry, sour cream and caramel goat cheese folded in half and eaten like a taco. Yummy!
We had a great tour with Shaf and Ingrid! The food was delicious and plentiful. We appreciated that it was local Norwegian food and we started with the theme of hunted food - reindeer, moose and whale salami with Brunost cheese and flat bread. The Grunerlokka area is quite interesting and unique. Shaf is knowledgeable on a variety of topics and we enjoyed our conversations with them!
The tour started at a food hall where we got to sample local Norwegian “charcuterie” and a delicious reindeer stew along with some beer. Then we headed on a walk around the neighborhood and learned about Norwegian culture and that specific area. Best food item we had along the wall was the waffles! Would 10/10 go there again to enjoy those. Overall it was a great tour with a good mix of information and food stops. The guides were also very friendly and engaging.
