Good: beautiful hotel in a beautiful, peaceful location. It's easy to reach from the center of Oslo by train. The staff are welcoming and helpful.
Bad: like most of Norway, fresh produce is hard to come by. The vegetables served at breakfast were moldy most days.
Good to know: rooms are small, and the pool is freezing cold. If those are important parts of your vacation, take this into consideration.
Also, the sun sets late and rises early, and the curtains in the room do not block out the light. I'd recommend a sleeping mask.
Above Oslo we found this jewel of hotel, the views are spectacular and every morning a motivation to get up early 😇. One day starts with rain and fog, another time the sun and neverending views over the Oslo Fjord welcome you 🌈.
Travel to the city center by Metro Nr 1 (10 Min. walk to the station Voksenkollen, then 36 Min. train ride with a view) or by Uber (25-35 Min.).
Hotel is a bit worn-down but still charming, breakfast varied, Restaurant cute, nice for a dinner, the hotel bar has Havanna 😎 and plenty of sofas and armchairs, hotel is very popular for business meetings.
Personal sometimes a bit sparse (in cleaning up/filling up breakfast) but always helpful.
Overall clearly recommended, visit 18-22 Aug 2026.
Voksenåsen hotel is located up on the hills with a magnificent view over Oslo and the Oslo fjord. The facilities are great, the restaurant is good and the breakfast has everything you'd want. However, it need to be mentioned that you have to pay for the parking. Given that you likely will need a car to get there it should be included in the price. The room has no air condition.
Don't miss this place! What a unique and beautiful hotel. The art is breathtaking. The light within the hotel is so inviting. I couldn't stop exploring each area, so many lovely spaces. The history about this hotel made my heart melt! Look it up and, if you are going to Olso, definitely consider this place. I hated to leave! A real treat.
Very disappointing stay😢😢😢
For the price we expected much better from a 4-star hotel.
*The room was dusty, and I had a strong allergy reaction during my stay.
*The room was not cleaned even once during our 3 nights.
*There was also no elevator and no luggage service to help guests with their bags.
*The bathroom was very small. The toilet was right next to the sink and the shower.
*The Wi-Fi was also very poor.
*The breakfast had fewer and fewer options each day.
*The staff were not very friendly. One trainee waitress was not welcoming, did not smile, did not greet guests, and on one occasion did not even respond when I said “thank you.” which made me feel unwelcome.
* The most upsetting moment happened at breakfast. The waitress told my husband, in a rude manner, that we should not take a half croissant because we might keep it for lunch later. Honestly, it was only half a croissant left from my meal and I simply wanted to avoid wasting food. The way the situation was handled made me feel as if we were being treated with suspicion over something completely insignificant. I never expected to leave breakfast in tears 😕😢😢
Overall, this hotel did not meet the standards I would expect from a 4-star hotel.
I would not recommend this hotel.
