My husband and I stayed here for one night and had a great experience. Our arrived in Oslo on an early morning flight intending to just drop our luggage off before wandering the city but were pleasantly surprised that we were able to check in and have breakfast. The breakfast buffet was extensive and a great first impression of the food offerings. The location of the hotel was super convenient and while it’s on a busy street the hotel itself is very quiet and calm. Our room was well kept, clean, and comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again

Fantastic location! Our balcony opened directly facing the park's World Cup watch party. We have kids who are normally bothered by loud music, but the festive vibe was so exciting that we absolutely loved it. The location was perfect in other ways, too. The room was clean, comfortable, and featured gorgeous glam decor, and the bathroom was incredibly clean. The service was also excellent. They had our room perfectly set up for the kids upon arrival, including a crib, so we didn't have to ask for a thing! They also had extra fans in storage available to use. It was very convenient that you can rent a powerbank and umbrella directly from the hotel, and the front desk will provide a bucket of ice if you ask. Just a quick heads-up: they do offer a laundry service, but it is super expensive (see pic for prices from July 2026)!
Comfortable stay in central Oslo! The location of Karl Johan Hotel is perfect—it’s within easy walking distance of almost every major sight in Oslo, with a great selection of restaurants, cafes, and shops right at your doorstep. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and the beds were wonderfully comfortable for a great night's sleep. On top of that, the staff was genuinely warm and helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommended!
Our experience at Karl Johan Hotel was disappointing from the moment we booked. Before arrival, we received a welcome email that, immediately after the greeting, focused on warning guests that they would be responsible for any damage to the hotel’s inventory. It was an odd first impression and not particularly welcoming. Check-in did little to improve things. The receptionist did not smile or offer any welcome. He simply asked, “Are you checking in?”, requested our ID, handed over the key cards, and that was it. When I asked which room we had been allocated, he replied, “It’s written on the card.” There was no explanation of the hotel facilities or any attempt to make us feel like valued guests. The room itself had clearly not been cleaned properly. The table had a visible layer of dust, suggesting it had not been dusted before our arrival. The minibar fridge was completely empty, and there was not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room. Overall, the hotel lacked the basic attention to detail and hospitality you would expect. It left us wondering if we were simply paying for the location, given its proximity to the city centre and the train station, rather than for a quality stay.
We loved our stay at the Karl Johan Hotel for it's amenities and location. The rooms had air conditioning (which was important in this last heat wave) and comfortable beds. Everything was within easy walking distance including access to public transportation. Breakfasts were well appointed with food for everyone's tastes.
