Yayo was a delightful and very patient instructor. She clearly enjoys teaching. The food was very fresh and delicious.
The Sushi Cooking Class with Yayo was a highlight of our trip to Japan. It was extremely intimate, the food quality was impeccable, and Yayo was a gracious, generous, and warm host and teacher. The work stations were thoughtfully set-up and the entire evening was seamless. Aside from sushi, we also prepared miso soup, Japanese omelets, matcha tea, and taiyaki. Yayo taught us about each of these dishes and provided clear instruction that was easy to follow. This sushi was some of the best that we had during our entire time in Japan; the fish melted in your mouth. We highly recommend this class to all visitors in Osaka.
This was the best dinner we had (because we made it ourselves) and one of our favorite experiences while traveling through Japan. Our host made us feel welcomed and appreciated for taking her cooking class. All her ingredients were homemade (by Mom) and purchased fresh from the fish market that morning. We were joined by another NYC family, who had experience in making sushi, so it made for great conversation. We learned so much preparing a traditional Japanese sushi dinner. I definitely recommend Cooking Class YAYO.
We had so much fun with Yayo during the sushi making course. She is incredibly kind and nice and an excellent teacher! We would absolutely recommend this course to anyone visiting Osaka.
This ended up being a private lesson, very personal experience. We learned about traditional ways and how to create delicious food! Our teacher was super knowledgeable and answered all questions. I would definitely do a different class with her again.
In a country full of phenomenal things to do, amazing experiences, and delightful outings, this was easily one of the best. Yayo is such a gracious host and an excellent teacher. We learned to make a traditional Japanese omelette, miso soup, a wonderful dessert filled with red bean paste, and sushi - the results were fantastic! I definitely recommend that you should enjoy sushi - as long as you meet that threshold, you will have one of the best experiences in all of Japan. I will be taking what I learned home with me and will add all of these foods to my repertoire. I offer the highest possible praise and recommendation, this is a must-do experience.
Yayo is a wonderful Sushi teacher. We had a fun, informative and delicious experience. Highly recommended. We laughed & we learned “hands on”. One of the top 3 best parts of our 11 days in Japan! Thank you.
It's a small class in what feels like a home. She is really nice and you learn a lot while having a great experience.
The hostess was very knowledgeable and incredibly kind! I didn't feel like there was a language barrier at all because her English was excellent. She was very encouraging and patient with me as well. She also shows you how to make each item before you try to make it which was greatly appreciated because I'm more of a visual learner. I feel like she made me a master sushi chef in the span of 2.5 hours, and I am confident that I can make everything that I made in the class at home. The food and sake was also fantastic!
My brother and I had so much fun learning how to make sushi with Yayo. Yayo was very kind as we were half an hour late due to a missed train. The little experiences she provided was amazing. We had a great time and would go again in a heartbeat. The food was amazing and we learned a lot about the different techniques to make Japanese food.
This was such a fun experience, truly a highlight of our Japan trip. The class was fun, informative and the food tasted great. Yayo was a delight, we had so much fun.
A must for sushi lovers! This is a fantastic afternoon learning how to make different Japanese foods with a wonderful host. Had excellent sake to accompany the foods we made. And the special gift at the end was a wonderful surprise
This was super authentic and the host was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met! We will definitely be back!
Yayo is amazing! We learned so much and the food was so delicious and authentic. I 1000% recommend!!
My husband and I were visiting from Hawaiʻi and had booked this before our arrival. YAYO was very patient, kind and friendly and we were most grateful for the very explicit instructions on how to catch the train to get there! Especially since it was our first time traveling on the subway, train systems, etc. on our own. We had a lovely evening learning to make sushi and were pleasantly surprised at all the other dishes we learned as well. Coming from an island state also surrounded by water, we had several things in common as Hawaiʻi has a special bond with the country of Japan and YAYO made that connection even stronger. Would highly recommend this class to anyone visiting the area. It will be a pleasant cultural experience you wonʻt regret. Mahalo to YAYO and aloha ā hui hou (until we meet again).
Quaint, delicious and incredibly homely - Yayo was welcoming, full of knowledge and anecdotes. The class was equipped with little touches that we didn’t know we needed! We had a wonderful time. Highly recommended! i’m
This is such a cute class and I learned a lot about Japanese cooking. I wish I was there to see Ayano (the doggy), but she was taking a leave of absence. I booked very last minute and Yayo was very accommodating. I did the same pairings as well and I loved every single one of them! One thing I would suggest is when Yayo asks about preferences, let her know in advance anything you would like to try in advanced, like uni (sea urchin) or hotate (scallop). Overall, I would definitely try this again!
This was a great activity and would highly recommend anyone interested in preparing Japanese food to give this a try! Yayo was patient and answered any questions I had asked. I made nigiri sushi as well as tamagoyaki served with taiyaki for dessert with shots of great tasting sake (both hot & cold) along with a locally crafted beer (Minoh Beer) – Weizen. I had gone in mid-July 2019 where it was very humid & in rainy season. The added accommodation of a creative ice pack vest helped a lot through the session as well. My only regret was not taking up Yayo’s offer of a rain coat at the end of the session as it had been raining pretty hard back then. Other than that, I had a wonderful, memorable time! Would enjoy going back in the future for a different meal to prepare. (No option to select a time before March 2020).
Visited Osaka with a group of friends, and my Boyfriend. And we all agreed to book this Class with YAYO. One of the best experiences ever. She was so organized, lovely presentation of Sushi. I still have my origami she gifted us at the end of the course. Would definitely recommend to anyone going to that area.
Great experience! Thank you, yayo! Very charming and insightful. We had a lot of fun and a very tasteful dinner!
This class was extremely fun as the instructor was very friendly and it was just me and my girlfriend whom attended. We were greeted by her dog who was absolutely lovely and friendly. The instructors English is quite good. Now, she has printed out sheets which advise you of the recipe and she explains each of the dishes, the instructions, and a bit of history or fun facts about the dish very well. She set up all the equipment and resources required beforehand so it flowed quite well when beginning the class. The class itself was very fun and we ended up making a variety of dishes. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend you give it a crack if you're keen to learn how to make some Japanese food.
This was one of our high lights on our trip to Osaka. It was well worth the money. Yayo was lovely and patient in showing you how to prepare all the dishes You have chosen. Akane her cute little dog was adorable. She sat on her chair and watched the whole time.
My family and I visited Osaka and were looking for fun activities that we could do in addition to sightseeing. This class was the perfect experience for learning more about culture and history of sushi in Japan, and specifically in Osaka! We made takoyaki, matcha green tea, and tamagoyaki in addition to a sushi platter that we ate afterwards. I would highly recommend visiting and taking this class!
As we lost our way in finding the meeting place, Yayo sensei settled us in with drinks and light snacks while we catch our breathe. Sensei played such a good host patiently walking us through each dish and guide us with our hands-on. Akane wore a very pretty kimono to welcome us at the door. She was so well behaved when we were having lessons. Despite our messing up her place, she made the whole cooking session so fun and helped us feel like great cook. We learned so much and had a wonderful time trying new yet familiar foods. We're looking forward to trying the recipes at home. We all highly recommend this experience if you're in Osaka even if you have never cook. Had just bought a rectangle pan online to try making dashimaki for my family.
we had 5 participants--learned a lot on preparation, background and differences of foods within Japan. Yayo did a great job--domo arigato gozimasu.
So nice and the food was excellent Thank you so much for teaching us and for the details !! This was awesome😸
I am quite delayed on this review, but late is better than never! This class is a blast! As a sushi-lover finally getting to learn how to make all kinds of sushi myself was both an intriguing experience as well as a delight! Yayo sensei was very skilled at teaching, even if you can't cook I would recommend the class.
This is a must do when visiting the Osaka area. The three of us had a wonderful time with Yayo, who is such a great encouraging instructor, and is so nice and sweet you don’t want to leave. The sushi was amazing and the background provided by Yayo on the ingredients and traditional Japanese customs are priceless. If you are a foodie and a sushi lover, sign up for this class.
This was SUCH a wonderful experience - every single part of it. We made a variety of different traditional Japanese dishes and they all tasted wonderful, especially after learning more about the history and background of each one. The instructions are explained thoroughly, and with photos and demonstrations. Don't even think twice about booking this experience!
This was an excellent learning opportunity, and we loved the sushi that we made! Yayo's has a passion for teaching, and she exudes a thoughtful and welcoming essence. She was very generous during the class, and we left having our had expectations exceeded. The sake was great, and the sushi was super tasty, which was awesome because we now can make it at home!
I wish I could rate this experience as 10 stars! Yayo was such a great instructor and was extremely encouraging the entire time. I learned so much and had a great experience. I can't wait to come back to Japan so I can have another lesson! Highly recommended
I had a wonderful experience with Yayo. She is a very gracious & fun host who is patient and takes the time to explain things, including the history of why certain techniques are used. Yayo also provided information to take home around the items we prepared; I will get a chance to try these with my family. I highly recommend spending an evening with Yayo!
Yayo is such a kind person and a very good cooking instructor. I loved the lesson! And as added bonus it was only me that day on the class haha :) excellent! Thank you Yayo!
This was a very special afternoon. Yayo and Akane were super sweet. Yayo is very professional, explains very well and cheers you on even when you’re not doing too well!:) I learned a lot and I laughed a lot. Overall, super great experience. I highly recommend it :)!
Yayo was very nice brought me up from the train station to her lovely house. I met Akane, a cute little dog. Akane was with us all the times, quietly resting on her spot. Yayo was a very patient teacher. She explained every ingredients using for the miso soup, sake drink, matcha (powdered green tea), dashimaki (egg), red bean waffle and sushi. I enjoyed chatting with Yayo about Japanese culture, the language and the food. She was wonderful and explained to me every ingredients traditionally made. The food are very delicious. I could not resist and ate all 10 pieces sushi I made. We took many pictures and these will be a very good memory for me. I definitely recommend Yayo's sushi class to my friends.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when Yayo had to change the location of our cooking class to her cooking studio in her house, but I was very pleasantly surprised! She picked us out at the train station and walked us back to her studio where she offered us slippers and place for our things and we were greeted by her adorable pup, Akane (who can be elsewhere if you’re not a fan of dogs- you just have to let her know ahead of time). Her place was clean and spacious and she had us all set up to go! Given the name, I expected that we would just be making sushi, but she included miso soup, a Japanese style omelet, a green tea ceremony, and a sweet dessert (waffle with red bean paste). Most of the ingredients we used were freshly made by her. Oh and did I mention we were also a given a sake tasting? Not only is Yayo sweet, but she’s an exec Ellen chef and teacher. The food was delicious and she even sent us with a little doggy bag of what we didn’t finish plus origami cranes with our names in Japanese. She made everything so personalized!! I truly enjoyed this experience and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Lovely time spent with a lovely lady and her dog! It was just me in the class which was great to have 1 on 1 and the dishes were great! Loved making the egg roll and sushi. Would recommend to many but depends what kind of sushi you want to learn. This is a very simple class and you make basic things

We had such a great time! A unique experience and a great value!

Nice experience. We had a good time.
The teacher and her dog are fantastic.
She is very kind and give attention to details.
I advice you to take this tour.
And... I love my wife...

This was definitely a highlight of our 2 week trip to Japan. It exceeded my expectations, and I am so glad we did this. I 100 recommend this sushi-making class! Yayo met us at the train station and walked us to her apartment. We had a lovely tea, and then proceeded to making a Japanese omelet, Yayo showed us how to make miso, and then we made our sushi. Beautiful, fun experience -- take this class, you will not regret it!!

This was one of the highlights of our time in Japan. Yayo is an extremely nice person who truly opens up her home to you for this experience.
