Such a fantastic experience! Chie is brilliant, very knowledgeable, and very personable. So welcoming, friendly, and organized! She filled every part of the class with local stories and history which made it so much more fun. The whole tour felt very well-paced, with enough time to hear stories and ask questions, and the group cooking was well-run and easy to follow. Everything was delicious and filled with laughter! We had a group of 8, which was a perfect size. Extremely worth the price and time. If you want to learn more about local flavors, daily life in Osaka, and a bit of history, don't miss this tour!

Itinerary
In Osaka, food isn't just sustenance — it's identity. For centuries this city was Japan's trading hub, shaping a culture where cooking is learned at the kitchen table, not in a restaurant. Locals call it kuidaore: eat until you drop. They live by it. This class puts you inside that culture. Starting at a neighborhood supermarket — the kind local moms actually use — you'll pick up fresh ingredients before heading to MagicalTrip's studio to make three iconic Osaka dishes: Okonomiyaki — savory pancake with cabbage, pork belly, bonito flakes, and okonomiyaki sauce. Niku-sui — rich beef and tofu soup in a light dashi broth; a hidden gem most visitors never discover. Yaki-Gyoza — crispy pan-fried dumplings with seasoned pork and cabbage, golden and juicy. Sit down and enjoy the meal you just made, paired with three handpicked local sakes chosen to complement each dish. Recipes are downloadable after the tour, adapted to recreate these flavors anywhere in the world. Solo travelers, couples, families, and groups all welcome. No cooking experience needed — every step is explained in English, and you'll leave with the skills to bring a little Osaka into your kitchen back home.

We had the best cooking class with Kiyomi Kojima. The food was delicious and Kiyomi made the day so great. We honestly had such a good time. I would highly recommend this experience. Thanks Kiyomi for making our last day in.Japan so lovely.
It was very interesting, super tasty and Kiyomi was very, nice, funny and had a lot of interesting facts about food but also about Japan to share. I would definitly recommend this cooking class :)
Niko was awesome! She was energetic, fun, and a great conversationalist. We went grocery shopping to make okonomiyaki, gyoza and beef soup. The tips she provided were very valuable. She made sure to engage everyone and encouraged us to ask questions about Japan or Japanese culture. If you like to cook, would definitely recommend taking this class. Thank you Niko for a wonderful experience!!
Great food, informative experience in a friendly setting
The super market shopping was good. Location was fairly easy to find and the kitchen was not too warm or cold. We actually prepared everything from scratch which was nice
Very nice learn about Japanese food and culture. Very accommodating and asnwered all my question about everything.
Great experience and worth the money. Had a nice time and learned a lot. Really interesting. Our guide was really helpful.
Fantastic experience, great lessons in cooking and a very delicious meal at the end! As well as a good tour of some of Japan, had an awesome time
We booked this last minute on a free day during our trip to Osaka. We were a party of four and total group of 8. The meeting spot was easy to find. We were lucky enough to get Chea as our guide and teacher. She provided understandable insight into Sake, tea and matcha, along with purchasing the grocery items for our cooking class. Along the walk she discussed various shops with really great discounts. We had a amazing sake tasting and she gave us a brief but easy to remember history lesson. Then we cooked - it was very easy to follow the instructions and everything came out great! There were a few food and drink (n/a) accommodations that were asked about and quickly taken care of without any exclusion. After cooking and eating we went to the nearby Michizane shrine where we were provided even more history. The best part of the 4 hour experience was when the teacher/chef wrote our names in Kanji and gave us definitions that were really spot on. It was above and beyond our expectations. After touring for 14 days all over this was by far our best experience!!
Chie was such a great teacher! Made the entire experience very wholesome and informative. I learned so much about Japan and I really appreciated the experience. Thank you!
Really fun experience. We learned not just some great recipes, but also a bit about Japan cuisine and culture in general. Eri was super friendly and attentive. Totally recommend this experience if you en joy cooking and learning while having fun.
We had a great time, learned a lot about Japanese home cooking and daily life in Japan in general. The supermarket where we bought the ingredients was the nicest we've seen in Japan so far. Yumi is a delightful host. Very knowledgeable and helpful. The lunch we prepared for the two groups (6 in total) was very substantial so come hungry and don't expect to eat for a while afterwards. We would gladly do it again.
Niko was absolutely fantastic ! One of the best cooking classes I have done. She is so warm, kind and such a great ball of energy. We cooked some delicious meals, laughed and chatted a lot ! We were certainly like a mother and daughter duo. A very fun and most certainly a memorable experience. Thank you Niko my adopted mum from Osaka !
My friend and I have had such a wonderful time. We had plenty of time to shop and cook. Our guide Yumi was so friendly and answered many of our questions. Thank you Yumi
Fantastic experience, very informative and generous.
What a wonderful way to experience Japanese culture though food!
I had a great time with Mari learning three classic dishes to take home from my trip to Japan. The dishes were broken down in to easy steps, which made all of the dishes accessible and easy to recreate at home. This is a fantastic cooking class, can’t recommend it highly enough!
I 100% recommend this during your trip. We had a great time with Emi, she was so lovely and welcoming and more than happy to share more about live in Japan and tips for our stay. We really enjoyed going to the supermarket with Emi, it gave us an insight into everyday live and we were able to compare it to supermarkets back home. We were constantly asking questions about unfamiliar produce which Emi happily answered. The cooking studio itself is right by the supermarket. It’s a beautiful, spacious, professional kitchen area. We really enjoyed getting away from the hustle and bustle of Osaka for the morning and learning to cook like the locals. The food was absolutely delicious and we’ve been cooking the recipes at home ever since we returned. Thank you so much for this experience and a special thank you to Emi!
Loved this cooking classes! We got to go to the supermarket and we made everything homemade! I didn’t think I was going to like it but everything was enjoyable! I now have to have my miso soup homemade now lol!
The cooking class with Tony was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Tony met us with a smile and a relaxed vibe. He took us to a local supermarket to buy our ingredients for lunch and took us through popular food and drink enjoyed by him and other locals. Tony also took us to a local shrine, explained the culture. We made an offering and said a prayer. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. Enjoying some music, my husband and I did a sake tasting. Tony explained the differences with the types of sake and we did a blind tasting! The food was absolutely delicious and Tony was an excellent teacher! We could have hung out with Tony all day. Thank you so much Tony for a wonderful experience that our family will fondly remember for a long time. I can't recommend this class and Tony enough. i can't wait to try and make the recipes at home. Thank you!
Akko was fantastic host & we learned so much & we were sooo full & satisfied at the end. Highly recommend
Was amazing G very Joyce and tasty and friendly !
Niko is such a treasure! We learned so many things while we toured the market to gather our supplies, cooked amazing food together, and had a blast joking and exchanging stories the entire time. We made okonomiyaki, gyoza, and nikusui; everything was fantastic and was very easy to learn with such a wonderful teacher. Niko made us feel so at home in Osaka, so much so that she is our Osaka Okan Niko! I've never felt more welcomed in a new place than after meeting Niko, she truly makes you feel like part of her family. The only thing you should consider is which day works best for your schedule, you can't miss this experience.
We had a really great time with our guide Kiyomi where we shopped for ingredients and cooked together and got loads of infos about japanese cooking & culture. We enjoyed every minute of it and would definitely do it again.

This is one of the best experiences that my husband and I signed up for while in Japan. Emi was such a delight! I highly recommend learning from the pro, Emi - We were lucky to learn a bunch of tips, fun facts, and cooking techniques from her. When we visit again, we’ll be booking another experience with her - Without a doubt ♥️
Amazing class! They take you to a local supermarket and explain the different products, then show you around the area. After that, you get to taste sake and take part in the cooking, which was a fantastic experience. We’ll definitely be trying some of these authentic recipes when we get back home. Highly recommend!
It happened I had a private lesson. I really enjoyed it - I could ask a lot of questions during the supermarket visit and cooking phase was great! Thank you :)
Mari is an amazing host, she took us to the local market for ingredients, then back to the studio where made three different dishes, all of which were delicious. She is so kind and welcoming, we would recommend this cooking class to anyone interested in Japanese food! Thank you mari!

Mari-san was very friendly! This was the perfect way to start our first day in Osaka. We loved chatting and relaxing with her while eating all the food that we cooked. She guided us well, while still giving us a hands-on cooking experience. We appreciate Mari-san for going above and beyond, taking the extra time to answer all our curious questions and more. We learnt a lot and made wonderful lasting memories. We highly recommend this activity to others looking for a simple authentic cooking class.
Fun Japanese cooking class, Niko made us feel welcome and was very helpful in cooking traditional Japanese dishes. Fun stories throughout cooking and made new friends.
Linda was a great teacher. The grocery trip was a great immersion in daily culture. All dishes were approachable and delicious. Highly recommend.
The most amazing, joyful experience cooking with Niko & our group! We will definitely be taking these recipes home to share with our family & friends 🧡
My Japanese cooking class with Niko was hands down one of the highlights of my trip! From the moment we arrived, Niko made us feel completely welcome and at ease. The class was the perfect balance of hands-on cooking, cultural insight, and fun conversation. We learned how to prepare several authentic Japanese dishes from scratch, and Niko explained each step clearly while sharing fascinating stories about Japanese food culture and traditions. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and the final meal we enjoyed together was absolutely delicious — honestly better than some restaurants we visited! If you’re looking for an immersive, memorable experience (not just a tourist activity), this is it. I’d recommend Niko’s class to anyone visiting Japan — whether you’re a beginner or already love cooking. Arigatou gozaimasu, Niko! 🍣
The name of the business is so applicable to our truely wonderful experience. After getting to know our hosts, we went shoping in the local market to select food. The preparing the dishes was so much fun. Our hosts were the most genuine and nicest people. The food prep and cooking was so enjoyable. The layout of the cooking area is very nice and clean. The class was educational and so much fun. We definitely worth our time to learn these recipes. We highly recommend Magical Trip for a great time and amazing food.
