Great food tour! Street food was a highlight and Kai was a fantastic guide. She was so fun and full of information about Osaka while showing us the city.

Itinerary
Discover Osaka through golden takoyaki, sizzling savory pancakes, and crisp fried skewers on a private, three-hour walking experience. With a local guide tailoring the experience to your tastes, explore the food-filled streets around Dotonbori and Namba while learning about the ingredients and traditions behind the city’s favorite dishes. Before you meet, you’ll receive a short Personalization Form to help us match you with the right local guide and shape the experience around your food preferences and interests. You’ll enjoy 8 tastings featuring a balanced mix of sweet and savory local specialties. The suggested stops offer a glimpse of what you could explore. Your route and tastings may vary according to your preferences, chosen start time, venue opening hours, seasonal availability, and preferred pace.
Tender octopus tucked inside golden batter, a soft center, and a drizzle of savory sauce make takoyaki one of Osaka’s most tempting bites. Beneath Dotonbori’s oversized food signs, busy counters and sizzling griddles celebrate the city’s appetite for comforting, freshly cooked food. Your local guide can introduce you to specialties such as takoyaki or cabbage-filled okonomiyaki while sharing how these humble dishes became Osaka favorites.
Stone paving, intimate eateries, and the moss-covered figure at nearby Hozenji Temple reveal a quieter side of Osaka’s food district. Traditional sweets such as zenzai, a warm adzuki bean soup served with rice dumplings or mochi, offer a comforting contrast to the savory flavors of the surrounding streets. Your local guide can share the stories behind this atmospheric pocket of the city while helping you discover the available treats.
A delicate crunch gives way to tender meat, seafood, or vegetables in kushikatsu, Osaka’s much-loved breaded and fried skewers. Around Sennichimae, lively eateries offer opportunities to explore the variety behind this seemingly simple specialty. Your local guide can help you choose ingredients that suit your tastes and explain the dining customs that make these casual meals such a familiar part of local life.
Seafood counters, colorful fruit displays, and the aroma of freshly cooked food bring Kuromon Market’s culinary appeal to life. When the stalls are open, possibilities such as grilled scallops, savory croquettes, and seasonal fruit offer contrasting tastes and textures to explore. Your local guide can help you navigate the choices while explaining how seasonality and carefully selected ingredients shape everyday Japanese cooking.
The aroma of grilled skewers and conversation drifting from small eateries capture Ura-Namba’s informal dining atmosphere. This network of streets around Namba is known for its compact restaurants and izakayas, where small dishes invite you to sample whatever catches your eye. Depending on the time and your preferences, your local guide might suggest yakitori or another freshly prepared specialty while sharing what makes Osaka’s neighborhood dining culture so inviting.

We enjoyed this personalized experience. We were able to provide likes/dislikes and our guide tailored the experience. She was able to pivot to a different restaurant based on our conversation. We really appreciated the information she provided and flexibility in her approach. We recommend.
Kalid, made our food tour fun and flexible, with added historical information as we went from location to location. He took great care in accommodating our tastes and food interests. I highly recommend this tour!
We had an amazing day in Osaka, made all the more special by Kanna. She introduced us to many local dishes which were delicious and showed us some special hidden local sites. Thanks so much Kanna. Highly recommend.
Five star experience! Our guide, Taiga, kindly met us at our hotel instead of the designated meeting place, and from there, we went on a tailored food tour based on our dietary preferences and the areas we were interested in seeing. Taiga was also thoroughly entertaining and very friendly. We learned that he is very well traveled, and we had an excellent time hanging out with him, learning about the places we visited, and experiencing delicious Osaka cuisine.
This was our best experience in Osaka with our brilliant guide, Mayura Kai. Very knowledge local, former chef and restaurant owner. Great English, friendly, well paced and delicious food everywhere we went. An excellent lunch and an incredible wander through the most expansive and best basement department food hall we have ever seen. Highly recommended.
Mayura Kai was excellent!!! She clearly prepared for her clients and tailored the tour to our interest. She gave just the right amount of historical context and the food choices were excellent!
This is one of the best tours we have had - Maria did an amazing job introducing us to the local foods around Osaka and introducing us to the culture and sites of the city. The food was fabulous! We highly recommend Maria!
We loved the Osaka Food Tour. My son and I have serious & different food allergies, so this was a safer way to experience several of the food markets in Osaka. Fumiko, our guide, was the absolute BEST!
Loys was fantastic. He took both of our unique and individual preferences into account when selecting stops on the tour. The conversion was great and so was the food. He even took extra time to help us find a store we had been looking for. It was a wonderful experience and he is an awesome guide. Thank you Loys!
Maria gave us a great tour of local favorites in Osaka! She showed us hidden gems and we ate like locals- so fun and a great way to see the city!
Maria was absolutely amazing. She taught us things, explained the foods we were eating and took us to so many fun places. We ate so much food and she pivoted based on what we liked and wanted to do. Can’t say enough good things about the tour and Maria in general. She was one of our favourite tour guides in all of Japan that we had. Super friendly. Would definitely recommend her.
This tour will take you away from all the big touristic places and bring you deep into de real Japanese way of eating. We wondered true the night and stopped at several cool and authentic places
We had a really wonderful time and lots of great food that fit everyone’s requests! Our tour guide, Yukari, was fantastic.
We met Maria in a bus lane vibrant neighborhood in Osaka. Maria was friendly and inviting felt instantly comfortable. We had a great time all evening exploring the city, different restaurants and amazing food. Food is a perfect way to know the culture and people of a destination, and we are so glad that we had Maria to take us on this journey. Thank you, John, Erick, and Shawn.
We spent our time in Osaka with Maria. She was fabulous! What a warm, lovely and knowledgeable guide. Imagine being able to “rent a bestie” to show you around their home town- and it’s pretty much what the tour felt like. The tour was tailored to what we wanted to see and eat- which was exactly what we wanted and Maria was flexible too through the time we were together, so if something popped up we wanted to have a look at, she was happy to help. Definitely worth doing if you’re in Osaka.
Maria reached out to me the day after I signed up for this tour and the first one to reach out to me when I signed up for several tours in Japan. She wanted to know right away the food preferences we have so she could customize it. Now this is such customer service reaching out to client immediately! I love that she took us to places where locals eat and provided some background information. It was great getting to know the food stops and sharing food with her. This was certainly a yummy adventure!
Fumiko is terrific. Fed us till we were stuffed. Included a city tour. Even helped us get onto a train so we could get back to Kyoto without messing up. Speaks English beautifully. Fun, funny, a true delight.
A guided unique experience tasting a variety of foods that met the interests of both travellers, one adventurous and the other vegetarian. Appetizers. Desserts. Fish and meat. Fruits. Brief city tour of key spots. Perfect day and guide who is extremely knowledgeable, pleasant and fun!
Excellent food with a very flexible tour guide. It really is a cheated experience that left me completely satisfied. You won't be disappointed!
Riley was very knowledgeable and took us to delightful places we would never have found. Having a guide who spoke Japanese and knew the area saved us a lot of time
