Had a great tour with Ryo as our guide! It was very informative and showed an eye-opening side to Osaka, you wouldn’t otherwise see.

Ryo was a fantastic guide who explained the true Osaka (I guess you'd call if the "shin sekai of Osaka") and was able to safely and familiarly navigate the area to go safely

Ryo was welcoming. He had a quiet and calm manner and weaved in some funny jokes and anecdotes into the tour. The tour took us through the 'underbelly' of Osaka which was quite surprising. It it was interesting to see a different side to the usual 'clean cut' Japan.

Wow, what a tour. Not really what we were expecting but probably one of the surprisingly better tours we have been on. Tour guide took us places in Osaka we would never have gone on our own. From the poorer areas of Osaka to the adult playground to the tourist areas, every section was fascinating, eye opening and actually quite interesting. The tour guide was knowledgeable, accommodating and articulate. Ended with dining recommendations which we used (Kuru conveyor belt sushi was entertaining, delicious and inexpensive). I do t think we would visit some of these parts of Osaka by ourselves but felt very safe in a group atmosphere and with the tour guide. It’s worth the experienced

Very interesting trip with Ryo, he knows a lot about dark streets of Osaka and pass this knowledge in most pleasent way :) our group had a lot of question and he was able to explain everything, highly recommended if you want to get deeper into culture outside the guidebooks !

Had a really interesting tour with Ryu around the lesser-seen side of Osaka. Went to places we definitely wouldn't have visited otherwise, got some top tips for dinner places and really got a better picture of Osaka as a whole city.

Matt was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and open to all sorts of questions about the tour and Japanese culture. He was very respectful of the people that he was talking about during the tour and made sure no pictures were taken in sensitive areas which I felt showed his respect for the community. He was also very thoughtful and provided some recommendations for food and art around Osaka.

Out of all of the Japan localized tours, the two I did in Osaka were the best. Be prepared, the dark tour really shows a side of poverty. Kelvin was a great guide, a really cool young man.

I was worried about getting to the meeting point on time, but thankfully the tour guide waited a few minutes after the tour start time to give everyone time to arrive. The tour was very engaging and educational. I appreciated the recommendations given by the tour guide. I hope the tour guide considers using a tablet in the future. When he had something to show us, he used papers from a binder he was carrying. Since it was nighttime, it was often hard to see these papers. In addition, I was not sure about some of the tour guide's answers to people's questions.

Really amazing experience. Sometimes Japan seems like a perfect little place so it was good to see some of the parts hidden away from the tourists. The red light district was especially crazy. Our guide gave excellent info and answered all questions. Highly recommended

Matt was an excellent guide, and gave everyone a great tour! We picked up a lot about the less well-known side of Osaka, including homelessness and the red light district - while those aren't glamorous, they are extremely interesting to learn about. Matt also answered our group's endless questions on any topic at all, and was just a very fun and friendly guy to chat with!

Very good tour with Jay, equally informative and entertaining. Very impressive depth and breadth of knowledge regarding Osaka and the different historical and political context that has lead to some of the ‘dark’ outcomes we see today.

Our guide, Jay, was incredibly informative and shared a fascinating mix of historical and anthropological perspectives that really helped us understand this part of Japan beyond the surface. He struck a great balance between being amusing and deeply knowledgeable, and he answered nearly all of our questions with thoughtful detail. We happened to visit during the quieter winter season, which turned out to be a huge bonus—we had Jay all to ourselves, making the experience feel very personal and relaxed. Even though the day was quite cold and windy, Jay was extremely considerate and made a point of choosing sheltered spots to stop and talk, keeping us comfortable while still covering everything he wanted to show and explain. Overall, it was an engaging, insightful, and well-paced tour, made especially memorable with Jay. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a deeper look into this unique area of Osaka.

EXCELLENT! Guide had extensive knowledge of areas, fielded many out-of-field questions easily, and took us (a group about 12) to some fantastic and otherwise unknown areas. A real eye-opener, and an insight to another side of Japan rarely seen.

Having done a "dark side" tour in Tokyo as well, I thought it might have been much of the same, but getting to learn about how distinct Osaka's "dark side" is was very interesting and eye-opening. Our tour guide, Matt, was excellent, and kept us engaged with interesting facts and anecdotes about the areas we were visiting. Osaka is known for being pretty gritty, so this tour was quite interesting in learning about the kind of socio-cultural issues/norms that form its dark side. Definitely recommend this tour. There were around 22 people on our tour, so sometimes it felt a little crowded, but that did not really detract from what was an enjoyable tour.

My wife and I joined the 2 hour Osaka Free Night Walking Tour with Osaka Localized. Our guide, Rico, was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to, and he showed us a side of Osaka we would never have seen on our own. We walked through the working-class neighborhoods around Shinsekai and the historical red-light district, while Rico explained the history of the area and how Osaka has dealt with poverty and homelessness over the years. On top of the social and historical context, we also got tons of practical tips about where to eat since the area around MEGA Don Quijote Shinsekai is full of great local restaurants. Overall, the tour helped us understand Osaka far beyond the usual tourist spots!

The meeting spot was easy to find. Calvin was our guide for the evening. He had a little speaker so we could hear him well. He picked good spots for us to gather around to hear him. The pace of the tour was good. Took us to places we would not of gone on our own either in the day or night. Felt safe during the tour in this “dark side” tour. Interesting information shared, including places to eat. Worth the donation we provided at the end of the tour.

A great way to explore the grittier side of Osaka. The tour was informative with respect to the socio-economic standing in Osaka, as well as bringing us around areas of the city we would not have seen ourselves. Our tour led us to the red-light district and our guide was extremely respectful with his explanations and also let us know how to be respectful tourists when exploring the area on our own.

Great experience with Jay. Shows a different side of Osaka that you would never find on your own. Cross over of history, politics, socio economic differences in large cities. Jays is a great guide, easy to understand and gave us a balanced story of Japanese life mixed with good humour. Really recommend this tour.

An interesting site of Osaka, that I would not expierience in other cirkumstances. Seeing the vibe of the "dark" side of osaka is quite diferent.

We really enjoyed our tour of the dark side of Osaka with tour guide Matt. To see beyond the usual areas experienced by tourists and to be gently and carefully guided through the history and culture of the areas explored was a valuable experience. To be able to understand the complex interwoven Cultural factors of the history of the area was something we really enjoyed and isn’t achievable without this sort of experience.

Thoroughly brilliant and detailed, our guide Jay was fantastic. The tour takes the atypical tourist out of travel bubble and throws them into the gritty parts of Osaka city and it's activities.

Did the tour with Matt, who was very engaging and knowledgeable about the history and social issues in the area. Highlights of the tour for me were the stops in Nishinari and the red light district. Felt it was an opportunity to learn about the city from a different perspective :)

Amazing guide Rico showed us unknown parts of Osaka and Japan, that’s something we couldn’t find ourselves. He was extremely polite, funny, talkative and educational. We even got some candies! Top tour, really recommend!😁

We had a great tour with Rico through Osaka at night and its "forbidden district-area". He told us so much about the history of Osaka, especially over the last 50 years, and about the decline and rise of the whole area we walked through.
