Itinerary
Walk through Dotonbori street with its huge billboards, hundreds of restaurants and food stalls selling local foods including the famous Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki.
A 150 meter long shopping street lined with specialty stores with every cooking utensil and kitchen item available. This arcade with its variety of appliances, tableware and cooking accessories provides an interesting counterpoint to the nearby fresh food market at Kuromon Ichiba and can also be a good spot for picking up some unique souvenirs.
Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street is a must-visit in Osaka. This giant shopping arcade of cosmetics stores, apparel shops, and restaurants extends 600 meters. This has been a bustling center of retail since the mid-18th century when famed kimono shop Matsuya opened what later became Daimaru Department Store. The development of Shinsaibashi-suji parallels the growth and change in its host city Osaka . Walk down Shinsaibashi-suji to experience Japan's love of consumer retail. You can walk south down Shinsaibashi-suji to reach the neon-lit Dotonbori Bridge!
The most famous fish at Kuromon Market are the conger pike in summer and Fugu in winter. At least 10% of the seafood shop in Kuromon specialize in Fugu and Hamo. A lively and roofed market which stretches about 580m, there are about 150 shops and is always bustling with people. This market has everything you want. From fresh seafood, blow fish and soft shelled turtle specialty shops, to restaurants, fruit and vegetables shops, butchers, pickled goods, dried food, Japanese sweets and Western cakes.
Osaka's Sumiyoshi Taisha (住吉大社, "Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine") is one of Japan's oldest shrines. Founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism, it displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland. Only two other shrine architecture styles are also considered purely Japanese: Shinmei-zukuri as seen at the Ise Shrines and Taisha-zukuri as seen at Izumo Taisha.
Shitennoji (四天王寺, Shitennōji) is one of Japan's oldest temples and the first ever to be built by the state. It was founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who supported the introduction of Buddhism into Japan. Although the temple's buildings burned down several times throughout the centuries, they were always carefully reconstructed to reflect the original 6th century design. The outer temple grounds are free to enter, but admission to the inner precinct, the Gokuraku-jodo Garden and the treasure house is paid. In the pebble covered courtyard of the inner precinct stand a five-storied pagoda that can be entered and ascended and the Main Hall (Kondo) in which Prince Shotoku is enshrined as a statue of Kannon.
The Umeda Sky Building (梅田スカイビル) is a spectacular high rise building in the Kita district of Osaka, near Osaka and Umeda Stations. It is also known as the "New Umeda City". The 173 meter tall building consists of two towers that are connected with each other by the "Floating Garden Observatory" on the 39th floor. The observatory offers great views of the city through its windows and from its open-air deck. In the basement, there is a restaurant floor that replicates a town of the early Showa Period, while offices occupy most other floors.
Osaka Castle is certainly one of the most famous landmarks in Japan, and for good reason. This five-story castle is one of the most visually spectacular creations in the country, with a history that dates back almost 450 years!
The National Museum of Art, Osaka (also known as NMAO) is an underground museum housing a major art collection on the island of Nakanoshima in central Osaka.
Shinsekai , the New World, with it’s Tsutenkaku, the Osaka Eiffel tower, kushikatsu and Billiken , the God of wealth and money. Shinsekai is also home to Spa World, a huge bath complex with a large number of pools on a European themed floor and an Asian themed floor (enjoyed naked and gender separated).
Keitakuen Garden is a traditional Japanese landscape garden located within Tennoji Park in Osaka, Japan. Designed in the early 20th century, it features a central pond, meticulously arranged rocks, seasonal plants, and pathways that reflect classic Japanese aesthetics. The garden offers a peaceful retreat from the city, with scenic views of the nearby Osaka skyscrapers creating a unique blend of nature and urban life.

Rie was fantastic. She was on point in all of her walking tour destinations during the one-day tour, giving us a comprehensive view of Osaka. She's a wonderful person with a very warm personality and extremely knowledgeable. You would do well to seek her services while traveling this region of Japan, including Nara and Kyoto.
Great day spent with Taka. Guided us around our suggestions and informed us a lot on many historical details, along with many general Japanese cultural questions. Easy to talk with and quite a few laughs as well. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting Kyoto, particularly for the “first day” to get a feel for the city before further exploring.
Sachiko was delightful!! We did a six hour tour and got to use the metro, the tram and a train to get around Osaka (along with a good amount of walking!) The Osaka Castle was beautiful and we also had a wonderful lunch!
We have gas a great Day with our guide, Tatsuya Ito. He was friendly, patient and full of knowledge. We can advise HIM as a trustworthy and Gentse guide.
Sachiko, or guide, was just awesome and we had a wonderful day. Sachiko meet us at the cruise terminal and then we spent an entire day tiring the city.
We had a great tour with Yuki in Osaka. She did all our items and more. We had a lot of fun. Thanks Yuki
Had a fantastic tour with Yama and got great history insights and local knowledge along the way - excellent service
Had a great experience with our guide Yama. He was in contact with us a few days before the tour and confirming arrangements. He met us punctually in our hotel lobby and took us to all the areas we requested. Although we were on a shopping tour to get items for family and friends, Yama made sure he showed us important shops, streets, and points of interest. The highlight was Kuromon, the black gate market full of food and shops, where we tried several foods he recommended. I just wished we could have eaten more things, but there were just too many to sample all of them. We ended our tour in the bottom of a department store, where we enjoyed a beverage and conversation with our guide. He then showed us to our subway train and told us where to get off for our hotel. A great experience.
Sachiko or Choko Ogura is a fantastic guide who not only explained the importance but also the backgrounds and histories in details of the locations we visited. She is extremely proficient in English but is lovely lady with very helpful and pleasant nature. She guided us about what to do and what not to do. She is highly recommended and we will be definitely recommending her to our relations and acquaintances.
It was very informative, fun and professional. The guide Norifumi was very attentive and patient with us. He made the experience very educational and unforgettable..
We had a great Osaka tour experience with an excellent tour guide Sachiko Ogura. Highly recommended

Shuji was an absolutely lovely tour guide for us! He showed up early to the hotel to pick us up in the morning and was so friendly right away. He filled our day with interesting facts, laughs, and helpful information about Japan. We are so grateful to him for making it a special day and we highly recommend him to anyone looking to make the most out of their trip to Osaka.
We had a wonderful tour of Osaka with Mizu and can highly recommend her as a guide. From the very beginning, she was friendly, welcoming, and extremely well prepared. The entire tour was well organized, informative, and perfectly matched our expectations. The sights and areas she selected gave us a great impression of Osaka and its unique character. We particularly appreciated the balance between famous attractions, local culture, history, and everyday life in the city. Mizu provided us with a lot of interesting background information and explained everything in a clear and engaging way. We learned much more about Osaka than we would have discovered on our own. Her English was excellent, and communication was easy and natural throughout the entire tour. She was always happy to answer our questions and made sure that everyone in our group felt comfortable and included. We got along with her very well, and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable from start to finish. Mizu was also very attentive to our interests and adjusted the tour whenever necessary. We never felt rushed, and there was always enough time to take photos, look around, and enjoy the different places. Her warm personality, local knowledge, and enthusiasm for Osaka made the experience particularly memorable. Overall, the tour was one of the highlights of our stay in Osaka. We would gladly book another tour with Mizu and recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, reliable, and personable guide. Thank you, Mizu, for such a fantastic and memorable day in Osaka!
My teenage boys and I had a wonderful private walking tour of Osaka with our guide Yuka! After I booked the Japan Guide Agency tour through TripAdvisor, Yuka reached out to me directly about our itinerary. She was very accommodating and responsive during the planning stage, and was extremely flexible right up until the day of our tour with last minute changes. She was a wonderful tour guide and incorporated all the sights that we wanted to visit, with a lot of interesting history/facts provided along the way. She spoke very good English and was easy to understand. Would highly recommend this tour (and Yuka!) as a very efficient/immersive way to experience and explore Osaka.
Sachiko O. was our guide for the day around Osaka, and what a wonderful experience we had in this amazing city. Even with a rainy day she provided an itinerary that included history and culture with shopping and, of course, food. It provides us with a taste of a city that we hope to return to in the near future.
I just visited Japan with my family and we had a great experience walking through Osaka with Haru. He was very kind and knowledgeable and truly made the day special
A fantastic introduction to Japan! Yama (our guide) was informative, knowledgeable and fun. Highly recommend!!
There is much to do in Osaka so carefully choose 3 or 4 sights to visit. Yuki was a great tour guide and she communicated with us before the tour to find out what we wanted to see and do. She was knowledgeable about the city and its history.
Our tour guide Shuji was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and made sure we were able to see everything that we wanted while in Osaka. He even took my 5 year old into consideration and took us to the Pokémon store since he is a Pokémon fan. I would definitely recommend him as a tour guide.
My brother and I had the most incredible tour with our guide Sachiko yesterday. We learned the history of Osaka castle, saw Shitennouji temple, Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine, and Shinsekai. It was so nice being able to easily navigate the public transportation with the help of our guide. She also took the most incredible pictures and air dropped them at the end of the day. She made sure to point out several restroom stops along the way and offered to let us stop for food or drinks. We had the most incredible day and learned so much about Japanese history and culture.
Rie did a great job showing us a park with a waterfall and good places to eat outside of Dotenbori. She made sure we got on the right bus to get back to the Diamond Princess on time.
Great way to experience the key sights of Osaka. Our guide Miyuki-san took us to Osaka castle and showed us the best photo spots and also a miniature figure museum we certainly would have missed.
Kaeko was the perfect guide for Osaka! She was extremely knowledgeable and so very friendly. We were able to get a great one day glimpse into the city’s history, culture, and food. We highly recommend!
Very good blend of old, culturally diverse stops along with more modern history, a very authentic lunch spot finished off with a walk through very vibrant market district
Yuki was wonderful and an absolutely lovely person. Her enthusiasm was fantastic. I went with my husband and our dear friend and we felt we saw a lot of Osaka in the 6 hour tour. Yuki’s English is a bit difficult to understand but she led us to amazing sites and we had a fun day! My husband wrote a song for Yuki :)
A great 6 hour tour of Kyoto with Taka Sakai. He was professional, knowledgeable, relaxed and easy to be with the whole day. Given that Kyoto is so busy I’d definitely recommend this tour with a knowledgeable guide to maximise your time
We had an exceptional experience with our private guided tour in Japan, thanks to Taka. He was incredibly considerate and patient throughout the day, and never made us feel rushed—in fact, he generously spent more time with us than originally scheduled to ensure we had the best possible experience. Taka went above and beyond by helping us navigate logistics seamlessly and even made sure we got to our next destination without any stress. One of the highlights was the authentic Japanese restaurant he took us to for lunch —something we would never have discovered on our own. Communication was excellent from the very beginning. We had several emails back and forth to organize the day; Taka was able to provide recommendations and was very accommodating of my request for sites off the beaten path. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Highly recommend!
Our private Guide Yama was excellent at communicating and discussing options for our day in Osaka. He meet us at our cruise ship terminal and assisted us with purchasing tickets. He had an excellent knowledge of the Osaka history and places to eat and visit. I would highly recommend this tour for a day in Osaka
This was our first family visit to Japan & we were travelling with our young adult sons and our first stop was Osaka. We were very happy with our guide Yuka who showed us some memorable sites and introduced us to the railway system on our first day in Osaka. Yuka is very knowledgeable about the history of Japan and we enjoyed her humour & energy. Thank you Yuka our family enjoyed the tour & your company 🫶
Our guide Yama-san gave us a great tour, packed with fun facts, interesting background, and lots of fantastic food recommendations, all delivered with lots of humor. With his help, we packed in a lot of sights and experiences into our only full day visiting Osaka; we had a great time and want to return. Imagine your favorite uncle taking you on a tour of his city and you get the idea.
Tatsuya Ito was an excellent guide for our day in Osaka! He met us at our hotel at 9 am prompt which we appreciate - and spent the entire day with us! We selected the top highlights we wanted to see including Osaka castle. He was extremely knowledgeable and relatable. He did an awesome job with the history - that we carried with is for the rest of our trip. A highlight for me was just discussing everyday life with him over lunch - I loved learning what his actual life was like and seeing we are all really the same at the core! He also helped secure tickets for the cannel cruise on Dontobori in the evening so we could see the lights - and took fabulous photos all over for us. We highly recommend Ito San and wish we had known he also does tours in Tokyo and Kyoto - next time!
What a great tour... I feel like i saw all of Osaka in a day. Got tons of great photos and learned alot about the culture. Yuko is so sweet and knowledgeable. It was amazing to not get lost at the train station for once. For that alone she is worth it. I would book again in a heartbeat.
Booking this private tour with Kaeko Tanigawa on our first day in Japan was the single best decision we made for our entire trip. We were immediately immersed and acclimated to the city, thanks entirely to Kaeko's expertise and professionalism. The tour lasted six hours, and Kaeko packed every minute with valuable insights and amazing experiences. She is profoundly knowledgeable about Osaka's history, culture, and cuisine, and she answered all of our questions with incredible detail. Kaeko didn't just show us sights; she helped us settle in. She was thoughtful and proactive, pointing out the best spots for photos and local food that we never would have found on our own. For travelers newly arrived in Japan, her guidance was invaluable. Beyond the tour itself, Kaeko went above and beyond by providing us with a list of personalized recommendations—restaurants to try and places to visit—for the remainder of our time in the country. This personalized planning elevated our entire vacation. Given everything we were able to do, see, and learn, the tour was incredibly reasonably priced and offered outstanding value. We can confidently say this private tour with Kaeko was the true highlight of our trip. If you are visiting Osaka, doing a tour with Kaeko is a must!
We had a fantastic private tour in Osaka with Sachiko! She was so friendly, easy to talk to, and made sure we saw everything on our wish list. Together, we planned an itinerary that included the Tsutenkaku area, Osaka Castle and its gardens, Kuromon Market, Umeda Sky Building, Namba Yasaka Shrine, and lively Dotonbori. Sachiko was very thoughtful about helping us capture great photos along the way and made sure everyone in our group enjoyed the experience. Her local knowledge and cheerful personality made the day truly memorable!
Sachiko was an excellent and informative guide. She took the time to find out about our interests and crafted a great tour of Osaka for us. She is extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area. The logistics were well planned and very doable for us. Highly recommend!
Sachiko is an excellent guide who really tailored the tour to meet our needs. She is knowledgeable and knows the city so well.
It was fast paced, but allowed us to see a lot. Saw several shrines, temples, Osaka Castle, and shopping/local areas. The Guide, Yama, explained everything we encountered and experienced very thoroughly. He spoke very good English and added a bit of humor that made it educational and fun!
My family of 3 thoroughly enjoyed our experience on our tour of Osaka. Our guide, Yama-san , knew a lot about the sites that we selected. We visited Osaka Castle, Shinten-noji Temple, Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, Kuromon Ichiba Market, and Dotombori Street. Yama-san had great information about the history but also had funny stories from his tours and lots of jokes. At the Market and Dotombori Street, he introduced us to Tacoyaki and helped us find good seafood and real Kobe beef. 5 stars, a great tour
Excellent, knowledgeable and friendly guide who gave us a tour around Osaka We very much enjoyed the wonderful day in Osaka where we saw most of the highlights and ended with a great omikase dinner with a wonderful Sushi Chef
Our guide Miyuki Ogawa was terrific. She took us to shrines and temples as well as the shopping area and of course the foodie area. A great experience!
My husband and I very much enjoyed this tour with Haru our tour guide. He met us on time at our hotel and guided us to the four sites that we had pre-arranged with him to see. His knowledge of Japanese history and culture is excellent and he came prepared with additional visual guides to show us as he carefully explained the significance of each site. My husband and I would highly recommend this tour and Haru.
Our wonderful guide, Sachiko Ogura, did an amazing job of introducing us to the "old & new" Osaka. She was timely, knowledgeable, thorough, thoughtful. Truly made an effort to customize our day and provide an immersive experience. We learned a lot and enjoyed it tremendously. Highly recommend.
If your guide tour is Sachiko Ogura, it will be the best tour you'll get. She comes prepared and with her itinerary, but it doesn't mean you cannot change the route. We visited one of the spots one day before, so she shaped the itinerary to fit our request. The hole tour was great, and having a local to take us to each place will save you plenty time. Be prepared with sunblock and a good hat, if your visiting in August. Also, consider it could be an 8-10 km walk the hole trip.
Yoshi was an exceptional guide — knowledgeable, dedicated to the group, and very attentive to details. Each visit was well organized, and he was kind and incredibly patient. He stayed with us even past the official end time of the tour and made sure we got safely onto our return transport. 100% recommended — the best guide I’ve had in many trips!
This is a very informative tour of some of Osaka’s cultural attractions. We were able to also mix in some local markets as well. Shogo was a wealth of knowledge and great guide.
Noriko was an excellent tour guide. She was able to provide a tour of Osaka that was unique in that in avoided some heavy tourist locations to provide a more local flavor without sacrificing the standard highlights of a visit to the city. We greatly enjoyed our day with her.
This was a delightful way to get a one day overview of the major sites in Osaka. Our guide, Sachiko, was very professional, pleasant and accommodating to our requests.
Mizu was the highlight of our trip! We were traveling with our parents, my husband and I and our teenage children. Mizu helped us plan an itinerary that was engaging for our entire family with lots of breaks for the hot day. It was like visiting a friend in a new city. We learned so much, saw many beautiful sights and enjoyed some of the best food on our trip thanks to Mizu. You should definitely visit Mizu if you are in Osaka!
