Itinerary
Walk through Dotonbori street with its huge billboards, hundreds of restaurants and food stalls selling local foods including the famous Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki.
A 150 meter long shopping street lined with specialty stores with every cooking utensil and kitchen item available. This arcade with its variety of appliances, tableware and cooking accessories provides an interesting counterpoint to the nearby fresh food market at Kuromon Ichiba and can also be a good spot for picking up some unique souvenirs.
Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street is a must-visit in Osaka. This giant shopping arcade of cosmetics stores, apparel shops, and restaurants extends 600 meters. This has been a bustling center of retail since the mid-18th century when famed kimono shop Matsuya opened what later became Daimaru Department Store. The development of Shinsaibashi-suji parallels the growth and change in its host city Osaka . Walk down Shinsaibashi-suji to experience Japan's love of consumer retail. You can walk south down Shinsaibashi-suji to reach the neon-lit Dotonbori Bridge!
The most famous fish at Kuromon Market are the conger pike in summer and Fugu in winter. At least 10% of the seafood shop in Kuromon specialize in Fugu and Hamo. A lively and roofed market which stretches about 580m, there are about 150 shops and is always bustling with people. This market has everything you want. From fresh seafood, blow fish and soft shelled turtle specialty shops, to restaurants, fruit and vegetables shops, butchers, pickled goods, dried food, Japanese sweets and Western cakes.
Osaka's Sumiyoshi Taisha (住吉大社, "Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine") is one of Japan's oldest shrines. Founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism, it displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland. Only two other shrine architecture styles are also considered purely Japanese: Shinmei-zukuri as seen at the Ise Shrines and Taisha-zukuri as seen at Izumo Taisha.
Shitennoji (四天王寺, Shitennōji) is one of Japan's oldest temples and the first ever to be built by the state. It was founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who supported the introduction of Buddhism into Japan. Although the temple's buildings burned down several times throughout the centuries, they were always carefully reconstructed to reflect the original 6th century design. The outer temple grounds are free to enter, but admission to the inner precinct, the Gokuraku-jodo Garden and the treasure house is paid. In the pebble covered courtyard of the inner precinct stand a five-storied pagoda that can be entered and ascended and the Main Hall (Kondo) in which Prince Shotoku is enshrined as a statue of Kannon.
The Umeda Sky Building (梅田スカイビル) is a spectacular high rise building in the Kita district of Osaka, near Osaka and Umeda Stations. It is also known as the "New Umeda City". The 173 meter tall building consists of two towers that are connected with each other by the "Floating Garden Observatory" on the 39th floor. The observatory offers great views of the city through its windows and from its open-air deck. In the basement, there is a restaurant floor that replicates a town of the early Showa Period, while offices occupy most other floors.
Osaka Castle is certainly one of the most famous landmarks in Japan, and for good reason. This five-story castle is one of the most visually spectacular creations in the country, with a history that dates back almost 450 years!
The National Museum of Art, Osaka (also known as NMAO) is an underground museum housing a major art collection on the island of Nakanoshima in central Osaka.
Shinsekai , the New World, with it’s Tsutenkaku, the Osaka Eiffel tower, kushikatsu and Billiken , the God of wealth and money. Shinsekai is also home to Spa World, a huge bath complex with a large number of pools on a European themed floor and an Asian themed floor (enjoyed naked and gender separated).
Keitakuen Garden is a traditional Japanese landscape garden located within Tennoji Park in Osaka, Japan. Designed in the early 20th century, it features a central pond, meticulously arranged rocks, seasonal plants, and pathways that reflect classic Japanese aesthetics. The garden offers a peaceful retreat from the city, with scenic views of the nearby Osaka skyscrapers creating a unique blend of nature and urban life.

Taka was super guide and very informative. Will definitely recommend him to everyone.
Sachi took account of what we wanted to see on our walking tour & made every extra effort. She knew the best spots & angles to take wonderful photos. Thank you Sachi
I had a wonderful tour with Sachiko Ogura, who was very knowledgeable and very kind. It felt like seeing Osaka with a friend! We got to see places I was interested in, with Osaka Castle being a real highlight. I really felt I got to see a lot of Osaka so easily.
Sachiko was a very experienced, friendly guide with excellent knowledge about the history of the sights that she took us to. The half day tour was a good mixture of different sights - Osaka Castle, Shitennouji temple, a rooftop garden viewpoint and Kuromon market, and the pace was ideal for us. She happily took photos of us and then sent these to us. I would recommend her to anyone 100%. Thanks Sachiko, Neil and Sheryl Buckley
It was very comprehensive and the guide was excellent. He covered the most important areas of Osaka. The Osaka Castle and food stops were highlights.
We had a gorgeous day with Yuki with a lots of Informations. We have seen all the items on our itienary and even more. It was great fun. Thank you Yuki
We had a fantastic day with Yuki exploring Osaka castle, shinkesai and dotonbori. Yuki was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you for such a memorable day.
With Yama-san guiding us we visited the beautiful Keitaku-en Gardens and the magnificent Shiten-no-ji Temple in Osaka. As an experienced guide he clearly explained what we were looking at giving us greater insight into the importance of each site in Japanese history /culture. This made for a more enjoyable experience rather than just 'skimming over the surface....'. Yama-san's interest in where we came from and our backgrounds made for a personable interactive tour. Sachiko was our tour guide and she is one of the best we have had. Not only did she show us Osaka in the rain, she went above and stayed with us 45 minutes past the tour time to make sure she brought us back to our hotel and taught us the trains to take and the restaurants around. We highly appreciate her.
I enjoyed seeing Osaka through Sachiko’s eyes and experience. She showed me what was special about Osaka, answered my numerous questions about life in this city and in Japan. The tour was long enough to see the city and although it rained throughout the day, I had a very nice time. I would recommend Sachiko and TripAdvisor to friends
We spent half a day with Sachiko Ogura seeing the Osaka castle, the garden on 16th floor, Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine and Dotonbori. Sachiko was on time (in fact, early:-) and well prepared (we have communicated in advance) and gave us an excellent tour. She can be highly recommended!
Osaka was our favourite tour in all of our trip to Japan . Yama was best tour guide !! Amazing tour and interaction.
This was a perfect tour of Osaka! Our guide Emi built a tailored itinerary that exactly met our needs and we visited amazing sites we would've never known about thanks to her. Throughout the tour, Emi was so kind, knowledgable, positive, and flexible - we enjoyed every second and are so grateful she was the person that showed us beautiful Osaka. Strongly recommend Emi and this tour if you're planning a trip to Osaka!
Sachi was a great guide. She customized our tour for us and even made a last minute adjustment due to the rain and switched us to an indoor activity to visit the Japanese museum of living which was gave us a very nice insight on how the Japanese lived way back when. She’s very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions we had. She also went out of her way to make sure our kids also enjoyed the tour. What really impressed me was that she never sat down or rested during the whole tour. Even on the train, she didn’t sit down!
Naomi was our guide and did a fantastic job. He met us at our hotel and suggested several places to visit. He navigated us to each spot, providing history and information about each location. Our time spent with him was enjoyable and I would recommend this tour to anyone!
We absolutely loved this tour. Yama was attentive, was filled with interesting facts, and he also took us a few areas that were not as full of tourists. He seemed to enjoy his work which made it really fun for us. Absolutely a kind and knowledgeable guide, I would highly recommend him to anyone visiting Osaka for the first time.
Kaeko was very good and animated in her tour which we loved.
Wonderful experience with an amazing guide! Ms. Sachiko Ogura, a kind, respectful, and knowledgeable guide made our 4-hour tour efficient and interesting. We visited several places including the Osaka castle. She provided detailed information on the places we visited in addition to attractions along the way. I highly recommend her to everyone who desires the best exposure to Osaka.
Andy was great . On time and patience with our walking tour since we had a 14 yr old with us. Very informative and picked us up and dropped us off our hotel. Thank you Andy for showing us Osaka
We had an incredible 4-hour tour of Osaka with Rie! She reached out two days in advance to tailor the itinerary exactly to our interests. She provided fascinating history at Osaka Castle. On top of that, she took some amazing photos for us. Highly recommend her for a personalized and memorable experience!
The tour guide did a good job on the locations she selected to tour. She also had appropriate commentary, but lacked offering historical facts /dates/ historical figures/ etc. that should be part of the narrative at all locations. Osaka is SO old, and the history is centuries old - it would have been nice to hear more of the history of Osaka and the influence it had on Japan in general. What REALLY disappointed me was the fact that she did not ONCE contact me directly until the day before we were meeting. It was VERY stressful to travel from the US, book this tour 6 months in advance, and not hear from the actual tour guide until less than 24 hours prior to the tour. I flew into Osaka and had no idea if I was going to have a tour or not. She needed to be more fluent in English, speaking and comprehension. Even after we indicated that we did not want to walk too much. We would have preferred 3-4 miles - instead of the 6-7 our watch indicated. We also told her that instead of subways or busses, we would pay for taxis or Ubers - she still put us on a bus that was painfully slow - and she offered no narrative of the "sights" while we rode by. My suggestion is to NEVER put your tourists on a public bus unless they request public transport only, or it is the last resort. She was a really nice person, so I am troubled to give her such a poor review, but hopefully she will respond to this criticism and improve her tour skills.
The tour was both very informative and incredibly picturesque, while also serving as some good exercise. The guide was pleasant throughout and easy to understand so the experience was a lot of fun overall. We would recommend the tour to anyone looking to see the sights of Kyoto through the lens of someone with a deep understanding of Japanese culture.
We had only half a day in Osaka so opted for the 4 hour tour with a Government Guide. We were allocated Yuki and she got in touch by email shortly after I had booked the tour to discuss the itinerary. We agreed on what we wanted to see and left the rest to Yuki. She met us at the cruise terminal and took us into Osaka to visit Osaka Castle. Afterwards we visited the shopping area and then we were on a quest to find Japanese Pokemon cards for our grandson. Yuki was informative and interesting, her English was good and we enjoyed our trip in the time that we had. Thank you Yuki
Our tour was amazing. The guide, Ms. Sachiko Ogura, was great. She communicated well prior to the tour and helped create an itinerary for a very picky tourist (me). She knew exactly where to go and how to navigate busy metro stations and streets. She was friendly and patient with us. She even took pictures of us with her iPad and sent them to my son's phone. This was above and beyond my expectations. Thank you so much Sachiko!
Sachiko Ogura gave us the tour of Osaka. She contacted me a few days in advance to share various options we could choose from. She is flexible and a teal professional. We had a wonderful tour through Osaka! Thank you Sachiko Ogura.
Yuka-san was amazing, warm, and professional! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time learning about her hometown. She taught us a lot about the history of Osaka castle and knew great photo spots! We also went to Sumiyoshi Taisha thanks to her recommendation, which was wonderful because of the scenery and the various shrines there. My favorite moment was how she showed us how to read our fortunes and follow proper temple etiquette which was important to us. We learned so much about Japanese culture and even walked away with some new phrases! It was important to us to have a guide who we could befriend and talk to, and Yuka-san was kanpeki (perfect!) Ookini, Yuka-san!
Thank you for a wonderful day. We learned a lot and had so much fun with you!
Masa was punctual and we met her where she told us. She helped us get all day subway passes so we could make the most of our 4 hour tour. We answered a questionnaire in advance so we could see what we wanted in the time we had. She kept us on schedule. She answered all our questions and gave detailed information for the places we visited. She gave interesting little tidbits besides the history. She recommended places for dinner and shopping. She also gave candy prizes when we answered questions correctly. It was a fun and informative tour.
Our tour guide Masa was incredible, she really made the 4 hours we had interesting and fun. The best tour guide we have had during our 3 weeks in Japan. The tour itself is only 4 hours, we managed to only see two out of the other choices, the Skyline was fantastic. If you have time book a longer tour. Mada spent extra time helping us at the station, very grateful
We had an absolutely wonderful experience in Osaka thanks to our guide, Sachiko Ogura. From the very beginning, she made us feel comfortable and welcomed — more like a caring family member than just a tour guide. Sachiko was incredibly patient, well-organized, and thoughtful throughout the entire trip. Traveling with family (especially with kids) can sometimes be challenging, but she handled everything so smoothly and ensured everyone was comfortable and enjoying the experience. She paid attention to every small detail and took really good care of us at all times. She showed us some amazing places in Osaka, including both popular attractions and hidden gems that we would never have discovered on our own. Her deep knowledge about Japan — its culture, history, traditions, and local tips — made the experience even more meaningful and interesting. She explained everything clearly and happily answered all our questions. What truly stood out was her warmth, kindness, and genuine care. She adjusted the pace according to our needs, made sure we had enough breaks, helped with food recommendations, and guided us like a trusted friend. It felt less like a guided tour and more like exploring Osaka with a knowledgeable family member. We are extremely grateful to Sachiko Ogura for making our Osaka trip so memorable and stress-free. We highly recommend her to anyone visiting Osaka. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and caring guide who truly goes above and beyond, Sachiko is the perfect choice. Thank you, Sachiko, for your kindness and for giving us such beautiful memories of Osaka!
Miyuki was an excellent guide. We enjoyed our tour of Osaka. She gave us a great tip to buy the tickets to Osaka castle early which save us a lot of time. Her English was very good, and she was easy to understand. I was use her again.
Shige was an amazing tour guide and companion during our time in Osaka. He explained everything clearly and made the experience both informative and enjoyable. He was very accommodating, always attentive to our needs, and incredibly polite and respectful. His subtle and thoughtful approach made us feel comfortable throughout the entire tour. Highly recommended!
Exceptional Tour of Osaka with a great guide Sachiko. She did an excellent job and gave excellent restaurant recommendations. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable.
We saw so much in the time we had. Nori explained the history of all places we visited. He was so passionate about everything, we were very lucky to have him as tour guide.
Very friendly and helpful guide. She really wanted us to have a great experience in her city. She showed us places that we may not have thought of seeing. She took great photos which was good, because I proposed to my fiancé under the Cherry Blossom trees which she captured perfectly. She made sure we took our photos from the best angles, which made a huge difference at the castle. She showed us the maze of food markets where we tasted some amazing foods and also took us to the major landmarks to help us plan the rest of our holiday. I would recommend Kiko to anyone traveling to Osaka.
Shoko San did an amazing job planning a customized tour of more quiet places for Osaka. We visited a couple of temples and a beautiful Japanese garden. Shoko was very knowledgeable and accommodating for us. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed our trip immensely. Takeshi was a very enthusiastic and positive tour guide- full of energy and ideas. We originally were planning the trip to be centered around Osaka, but we were also interested in visiting the Nara deer park nearby. Takeshi was very flexible and we ended up spending the first part of the tour at the Nara deer park. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the park, then Takeshi took us to Dotonburi where we saw the Glico man and enjoyed the busy sights and sounds of this epic food and entertainment center! Even though our tour was scheduled for 4 hours, Takeshi spent a significantly longer period of time with us! I tried to tip him after our tour was over to thank him for his service above and beyond, but he would have none of it. He thanked us for being such a nice group and felt as if he had made new friends. We were deeply touched by his helpfulness. We highly recommend Takeshi to any groups who may be looking for a great guide in Osaka!
Our guide was very friendly and personable. However, we could only understand approx. 15% of what she was saying. Communication was a real challenge. Also, time management was poor. We agreed on an itinerary beforehand by email and then it was completely changed on the day of our tour. As a result, we had only 45 minutes at the Osaka Castle (which was allotted two hours) and were literally running through the museum and grounds.
Naoki was very kind and knowledgeable He knew the best highlights of osaka castle and even got us in by skipping lines
Sachiko, is a kind and experienced guide. She arrived with a clear suggestion for the intinerary but also was open to discuss our needs and wants and adapt accordingly. Her cultural and historical knowledge was excellent, she engaged with us, rather than just"tell" us. She also went the extra mile to support us trying to buy tickets for a Sumo competition for which we were very grateful. Highly recommend Sachiko. Thank you!
Enjoyed the tour with Yama. Was able to help when we had trouble with the Suica Card. Only negative, he was quite fast and sometimes difficult to keep up with
Yama-san was great. Funny, well-informed, and a delight to travel with. We explored a Shinto shrine and a Buddhist temple and learned a lot and laughed a lot! We’d take another tour with him any day!
Yuki was very personable and knowledgeable ! She showed us around and we had a great time!!
Sachiko asked us for input and then planned an interesting four hour tour. If you only have a few hours to spend, this is a great way to see the highlights.
Sachiko was a fantastic guide! She was great with our kids and customized the tour as we went along based on our interests. She even helped set us up at a restaurant for lunch with local friends! She made getting around the city a breeze - we could never have moved so quickly through the many subway stops without her.
This as a great experience. Our guide , Sachiko Ogura, was fun, informative, and great photographer. She was able to take us to all the important places, she also personalized the itinary to our wishes.Sachiko paced everything in to make us constantly amazed. We will have lasting memories of Osaka because Sachiko was our guide . We visited the green grounds of Osaka Castle Park. We saw the enormous billboards in Dotombori, the Glico sign, the Crab sign, the funny looking statue at Nakaza Cui-daore Building, as we looked over souvenirs, We rode the tains at Osaka Station, visited the underground mall. Sachiko Oguara helped us to understand the customs of Japan as we visited temples and shrines. It was a wonderful experience.
Yama was our guide, he was a wealth of information. Great energy and positivity. He took us to all the right places, including the udon noodle joint in the market. I highly recommend him. Very gracious.
My father and I had a great time on this half-day walking tour of Osaka. Yuri was a fantastic guide — friendly, easy to talk to, and really knowledgeable. She did a great job explaining the history of Osaka Castle in a way that was interesting without being too heavy. We also really enjoyed walking through Kuromon Market and Dotonbori. Yuri pointed out a lot of things we definitely would have missed on our own and gave us helpful context about the food and the different areas. The tour was well organized and moved at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed. Overall, it was a really enjoyable and efficient way to see a lot of Osaka in a short time. I’d definitely recommend this tour, especially if you can get Yuri as your guide.
Yuma was great and very informative. Tailored our tour to what we wanted. And took us to all the right places
