We had an amazing time and the instructor was lovely, sharing her home and experience with us for the class. The food was delicious and we had a ball cooking our own famous food from Osaka! We 100% recommend. Arigato gozaimasu!
We are a german couple and this was amazing! The cooking session is at Yayo's home, which made it much more authentic than any other cooking sessions we had befor. She is so incredible nice! We had great food, learned a lot about japanese life, laughed as much as on no other day of our trip and got really good tips on brands and products, we can also buy at home, so that we can actually cook the meals at home ourselves. This is a must-do for all osaka travelers! Also important to know: This is the only activity in osaka, during which we were not asked to write a review from the guide. So the reviews of this activity are actually real. Again thank you Yayo for the best time we had in Japan. We will keep this in our memories for our whole life! Julia and Tobi
Great cooking class and you learn a lot about the ingredients too and how painstaking the preparation of some ingredients used to be. Yayo-san was also very cheerful and knowledgeable.
Know how long it will take you to get there and add thirty minutes. The meeting place is a bit hidden.
What a lovely experience, delivering each detail with great care! You'll not only leave with a full stomach and hands-on knowledge about local food but will also enjoy a family recipe and a heartful atmosphere. Definitely do recommend!
We had an interesting evening with YAYO . We cooked sadhu , Japanese omelette , pancakes and omonomazi . Fantastic and very filling
Yayo was a wonderful host and she taught us so much about Japanese cuisine and history. This was a great educational experience and well worth the time if you want to experience authentic Japanese cooking.
Made omelete, miso soup, japanese pancake, and a pastry. Thank you for hosting me.
We had a lovely time with Yayo learning how to make Okonomiyaki, Japanese omelet, Taiyaki and Matcha. We were so full after our class. Yayo was excellent at teaching us all about the food, the ingredients, and we had a good chat about anything Japan and Osaka. Thank you very much Yayo for your hospitality, we really had the best time and we will tell everyone we know about your class!
Yayo was so charming and welcoming- we had a great time cooking with her. She added a lot of little surprise personalized touches that made the experience special!
Yayo has such a great personality! She made learning to make okonomiyaki, dashimaki, miso soup, taiyaki, and matcha tea a very enjoyable experience. She even provided me with a goodie bag of filled with the recipes, a set of chopsticks, and origami cranes. I would highly recommend this cooking class.
Really fun experience with a great teacher - hostess in her home conveniently located close to the station. Food was delicious and a thoughtful gift at the end of the evening. Would highly, highly recommend!
Fabulous experience. Our host was so friendly & welcoming and the food we made together was very tasty.
Very nice, really good english, cooking and teaching skills, would definitely recommend to others that are interested in japanese and osaka cooking.
Had a great time being shown how and then making two of my favorite Japanese foods here in Osaka. Yayo was wonderful, and her home felt so warm and inviting. Looking forward to trying okonomiyaki back home on the Blackstone!
Authentic home style cooking experience with knowledgeable and welcoming host. Come learn more about this rich tradition and regional cuisines.
Loved the class!! Prompt pickup at class time with short walk to host's home. Lovely set up and menu. Enjoyed a private cooking experience, asking questions and learning about both local differences in food and traditions. Host Yayo made it special for my husband and I (food was delicious too!!) Would highly recommend!!
The location was a little out of the way in a quiet Osaka neighborhood. Highly recommend this cooking experience hosted by yayo in her home. We learned to make several traditional Osaka dishes that were delicious. Our host was so personable, and knowledgeable. We are going home with new recipes that we will cherish for years to come.
Best experience ever. Yoya was so kind and a fantastic host and teacher. Our dinner guests were so nice also and a pleasure to have had this experience with them
What can I say about Yayo? I have booked Yayo's cooking class COUNTLESS TIMES since 2023 for my clients (I'm a travel advisor). My clients always came back from Japan saying she was the best experience they had. When I went for my birthday in May 2026 I knew I had to experience her class for myself. She is worth EVERY single amazing review. She's funny, super patient and kind. She makes the class so special. Especially after telling her we had just gotten engaged. PLUS the food is out of this world delicious. I was eating Okonomikayi again for breakfast the next day lol. Thank you Yayo. You've made a special even better.
I had an amazing time with Yayo learning how to make okonomiyaki, miso soup, Taiyaki and Dashimaki. A great opportunity to learn more about Osaka cuisine !
My son and I took the cooking class ! It was in the instructors home ! She couldn't have been more nice and helpful we loved what we made . I highly recommend this experience !
The hostess was excellent about giving the history and differences of the 4 dishes we made. She was well organized and patient. The food was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommend.
Altogether an incredible experience. If you are on the fence about trying this cooking class, you should definitely just go. It's one of the if not the best thing we tried during our trip to Japan.
The class was informative and was to follow but also made very entertaining and fun by Yayo's charm. The results of the class were also very tasty and a little gift to commemorate the experience with perfectly rounded it out. We had a lot of fun and would recommend it for a chill and fun way to learn about local dishes.
Yayo was a great cooking teacher and this was such a fun experience. She made cooking Japanese food very approachable and beginner friendly. She also gave us recommendations for restaurants around Osaka which were great!
We had so much fun with Yayo! She was so welcoming and sweet (not to mention an excellent cook!). She has thought out every aspect of the experience and really does a great job explaining how to cook the dishes and letting you cook with guidance! It was so charming that she does this in her home and that her mom makes plum wine and miso for her cooking classes! This was a highlight of our trip and memories we will cherish! Ookini Yayo!
Yeyo was an excellent host and teacher!…she made the experience fun and informative. The food was made from authentic ingredients and everything we made was delicious!…I highly recommend this class!
Our cooking teacher Yayo was amazing. Yayo was so hospitable and made the class fun as well as her knowledge of Japanese cuisine. The food we made was delicious!! I highly recommend this as a great experience when in Osaka. Ookini Yayo😊
She was very thorough in her teaching but was fun and also considerate. Gave me gifts in the end which was a pleasant surprise! Would recommend!
We had a lovely evening with Yayo! Her kindness, her enthusiasm and her attention to detail made the cooking experience that much more memorable. We feel very lucky to have crossed her path during our trip.
This was by far the highlight of my trip to Osaka. Ms. Yayo was so kind, sweet, and funny! My nephew and I learned how to make so many dishes and she was so kind to give us such nice gifts, including some extra food. We made okonomiyaki, taiyaki, miso soup, matcha, and dashimaki. She was so thorough and patient. We learned so much! Definitely the number one thing to do in Osaka while you're here to get away from the hustle and bustle. Thank you so much Ms. Yayo for your hospitality and welcoming us into your home! Also thanks to Ms. Yayo's mom for all of her contributions to the meals. 1000% worth it and more for such a one-of-a-kind, authentic, memorable experience.
Incredible opportunity to cook in an actual Japanese home kitchen and an amazing cultural experience. We learned so much about Osaka and how their food differs from other parts of Japan. Our instructor was very kind and accommodating of dietary restrictions. We had so much fun and can't wait to try making okonomiyaki at home. It was a great value for the amount of learning and food you get!
A very interesting way to learn Japanese cuisine with an Osaka-style approach. The explanations are clear and the atmosphere is pleasant. The result is delicious and makes you want to cook at home.
Yayo is so kind and we had so much fun learning to cook classic Osaka dishes. The food turned out delicious thanks to Yayo's oversight so we got lunch (and dinner with leftovers) out of the session too. Would recommend to anyone.
This was an incredible experience and a delight to be invited into someones home to learn their cuisine. My partner and I had a wonderful time and left very full with leftovers to boot!
Excellent experience. Host was gracious and very informative. We enjoyed food also along with recipes.
She was great! Very authentic and local. Good mix of learning and doing. Very well balanced for what I look for in a cooking class
We had the most wonderful time with Yayo in Okayama! From the moment we met her at the arranged spot on time, we knew we were in for a treat. She took us to her lovely home, where she welcomed us warmly. We learned to make authentic miso soup from scratch, alongside delicious okonomiyaki and rolled omelets. Yayo was a delight—her explanations were clear, and she shared lovely stories about her mom that made the experience truly special. We finished with a lovely matcha. If you want a genuine, heartwarming Japanese cooking experience, Yayo is the best!

The evening we spent with Yayo and her friend Kimi (?) was delightful! It was great to be inside a Japanese home learning to prepare real Japanese foods. The class size of 5 was just right, the foods were varied and delicious, and the take away and gifts were beautifully personal and thoughtful! Most grateful!
Grateful I booked this one. Yayo is great! It is truly one of a kind experience cooking an authentic Japanese cuisine.
Yayo's cooking class was great! We learned how to make miso soup, Japanese omelet and okonomiyaki. Everything was delicious and Yayo was very welcoming. Highly recommend!
An authentic first hand cooking class to learn how to cook Osaka’s famous foods. This was excellent and a highlight of our trip! We made dinner and took home the recipes. Will be making these again when we return home, for years to come! We learned about the history of the recipes/ingredients, and got all the tips to make successfully on our own. Our teen enjoyed the class very much as well.
It was a great insight into japanese cooking culture. The teacher was very welcoming and knowledgeable. We prepared really tasty food and had a great time.
You are interested in Japanese cooking? Then you should consider this experience for your next trip to Osaka. Very kind and friendly host and a delicious meal. Strongly recommended.
What a wonderful way to try many dishes, my hostess was a 11/10 and invited me into her home. I think this is in my top 2 cooking experiences on vacation (and I have had cooking classes in Italy, Ireland, France, Peru and Mexico). Thank you again!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cooking Class YAYO in Osaka was the highlight of my trip to Japan. Yayo welcomed me into her home to cook okonomiyaki, miso soup, dashimaki tamago, and taiyaki, and even gifted me Sakura chopsticks after the class — truly the sweetest host and the best cooking class I’ve ever taken.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was truly one of the best cooking classes I’ve ever taken. Yayo welcomed me into her traditional home in Osaka for a private cooking experience, and it ended up being one of the most memorable moments of my entire visit. From the moment we met, she was warm, kind, and incredibly welcoming. She even stood outside in the rain waiting for me at the train station so I wouldn’t get lost finding her home. During the class we prepared several traditional Japanese dishes including miso soup (味噌汁), okonomiyaki (お好み焼き), dashimaki tamago (だし巻き卵 – rolled dashi omelet), and taiyaki (たい焼き). Yayo explained each ingredient and technique in a way that was easy to understand, and her English was excellent. What made the experience even more special was her hospitality and generosity. At the end of the class she gifted me beautiful Sakura chopsticks and a chopstick holder, which was such a thoughtful gesture and a wonderful memory to bring home from Japan. Yayo is truly the sweetest host, and this was hands down the best cooking class I have ever taken. She made my visit to Osaka truly memorable. I highly recommend taking a class with her if you want to learn authentic Japanese home cooking and experience genuine Japanese hospitality.
