I booked because it was supposed to be 4 hours so I thought I would see many areas, however it only lasted 2 and half hours, so I was very disappointed. The girl who took me was very lovely, friendly and knowledgeable.

Itinerary
Hidden in the backstreets of Namba, Namba Yasaka Shrine is one of Osaka’s most unique spots. Its highlight is a giant 12-meter lion head stage, said to swallow evil spirits and bring good fortune. Visitors can take striking photos in front of the open mouth, a favorite for families and groups. With your guide, learn the story behind this unusual design and its role in local festivals. You’ll also experience simple Shinto rituals, such as washing your hands at the purification fountain and offering a coin for good luck. A peaceful stop, yet full of character, just minutes from bustling Dotonbori.
Known as the “Akihabara of the West,” Nipponbashi, or Den-Den Town, is Osaka’s center for pop culture and electronics. Visitors can stroll through shops packed with anime goods, manga, video games, and quirky collectibles. A highlight is trying a gachapon machine, Japan’s famous capsule toy experience. For just a few coins, turn the knob and watch a surprise capsule drop out — inside you’ll find a fun miniature figure or item. It’s simple, affordable, and exciting for both kids and adults. Along the way, you can also peek into retro game arcades and specialty stores that showcase Osaka’s playful side.
Kuromon Market, often called “Osaka’s Kitchen,” is a lively marketplace that has supplied locals for more than a century. As you walk through its covered arcades, you’ll see rows of vendors selling fresh seafood, seasonal produce, wagyu beef, and traditional ingredients. The bustling atmosphere, the sounds of vendors calling out, and the colorful displays offer a vivid glimpse into daily life in Osaka. Rather than dining, visitors simply enjoy observing the variety of foods and the energy of the market, gaining insight into why Osaka is celebrated as Japan’s culinary capital. It’s an authentic cultural stop full of local flavor.
Dōtonbori is the heart of Osaka’s entertainment district, famous for its neon lights, the Glico running man sign, and the lively canal that attracts visitors day and night. Beyond the bright streets, your guide will lead you to Hōzenji Temple, a small moss-covered sanctuary where locals quietly make wishes. Nearby, the narrow lanes of Hōzenji Yokocho reveal hidden bars and restaurants, preserving the charm of old Osaka. We’ll also wander through secret backstreets, where tourists rarely go, to discover murals, lanterns, and the everyday life of the city. This mix of energy and tradition captures Osaka’s unique spirit.

Momo was a great guide! Awesome personality, entertaining and knowledgeable, definitely saw some hidden gems and enjoyed the tour.
We wanted something different but found the tour visited a lot of the usually places. Great for someone new to Osaka but no surprises as the tour name suggests
We found Ai to be an engaging and informative guide. She spoke excellent English and was happy to answer all of our questions.
Tour guide never showed up. Not impressed as I wasted the whole day waiting for this tour to start at 2pm
Ai is really lovely but basically this is just a drift though a few streets with (but for the shrine and temple) little of interest. It was a shame that as it was new year there was a 30 min queue for the shrine (you would expect a guide to be aware of this) which we therefore ducked but no alternative shrine was suggested. The walk down anime street was literally just a wander, no explanation of any of the specific shops etc, except a drift through the lucky dip shop. The Hozenji temple was very interesting but then we just went to the shopping street and had our photos taken by the iconic picture and the tour ended. Less than 3 hours. Not worth the 30k ¥ I am afraid.
learnt so much about Japanese culture. The stories about the shrine really stuck with me. Amazing experience!
We had such a great day with our Guide. I expected temples and history, but there was so much laughter and local flavor.
This tour gave me a new perspective on Osaka. The history of the city was shared with such warmth and passion that I couldn’t stop listening. I especially liked the balance between quiet cultural moments and the energy of the streets. I’ll remember this day for a long time!
I didn’t expect to learn so much about Japan’s ancient myths and traditions.Ai connected history and culture in such an easy, enjoyable way.
Beautiful mix of legends, history, and modern life. Ai is an excellent tour guide, giving informative and succinct explanations at every destination. This tour gave me a deeper appreciation for Osaka and Japan itself. Thanks for a great tour!
The tour was great! Ai explained how to pray at a shrine, taught us a few Osaka dialect words, and even helped me try my first takoyaki. Thank you so much for the great day.
The tour was fantastic! Every few minutes there was something unexpected — a shrine lion, fortune papers fluttering in the wind, a local cracking jokes, or a food stall sizzling.
The guide didn’t just show us places — she shared stories, legends, and meanings behind them. The tale of the lion swallowing evil spirits was powerful, and watching locals pray felt very moving. Later, we laughed over capsule toys and savored juicy wagyu skewers at Kuromon market. Highly recommended.
I totally enjoyed the walking tour with the guide. She was friendly, passionate and knowledgeable. I got a great overview and stories of Osaka. Highly recomended.
The tour was superinteresting. Ai knew so much about Osaka and was so friendly and patient. Would totally recommend!
It was full of surprises. From the calm atmosphere of the shrine to the crazy colors of Nipponbashi’s anime street, every stop had its own personality. The guide's passion and humor made it easy to connect with the city. I left smiling — and with a stomach full of street food!
It was one of the most fascinating tours I’ve ever joined. Ai took us to Namba Yasaka Shrine, where the giant lion head actually “eats” bad luck — I’d never seen anything like it! We walked through anime shops, street food stalls, and neon-lit alleys. By the end, I felt like I truly understood Osaka’s mix of humor, history, and heart. Highly recommended.
