Yuki was so knowledgeable and interesting. She was a delightful companion. Despite the journey from Osaka to Koyasan taking over two hours on subway, trains cable car and bus it was very easy and Yuki was a mine of information to keep me entertained. Koyasan was beautiful and fascinating, tranquil and interesting. A must visit. Don't be put off by the travel time and changes in transport. It is easy m, even if you are on your own as you literally cross a platform to another or cross a road to a bus stop. Well worth the effort!

Itinerary
Departure from Osaka on train to Koyasan with you guide!
The main headquarters for the Shingon Sect, which has 4,000 temples throughout Japan and more than 10 million followers worldwide. Visitors can see religious artifact, fusuma sliding door paintings, as well as a beautiful rock garden representing two dragons flying amongst the clouds.
The heart of Mt. Koya. Kobo Daishi (Kukai), the founder of Shingon Buddhism and one of the most revered persons in the religious history of Japan, rests here. Also, many prominent personalities' graves line by the approach to Okunoin for several hundred meters through the forest. Your guide will explain interesting stories about those historical characters.
One of the two most sacred sites in Mt. Koya. In the 9th century, Mt. Koya was founded on this very ground. At that time, Kobo Daishi held a groundbreaking ceremony and then dedicated his life to the construction of Danjo Garan. This sacred area consists of nearly twenty different structures including the magnificent Konpon Daito. Your guide will tell you the meaning of these structures.
The Reihokan Museum (霊宝館, Reihōkan) was built to house and preserve the religious and cultural treasures of Koyasan. The museum's entrance hall is styled after Byodoin Temple in Uji, and it has three exhibition halls for both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum's collection consists of thousands of religious works of art. The permanent exhibition displays statues, mandala (paintings representing metaphysical maps of the cosmos), and various other religious tools and paintings, the most notable of which is the scroll depicting the "Reclining Image of Sakyamuni Buddha on His Last Day". Additionally, a rotating temporary exhibition displays a seasonal selection chosen from the museum's collection.
Daishi Kyokai (大師教会, Daishi Kyōkai) is the administrative center of Shingon Buddhism, and is responsible for spreading the teachings of Kobo Daishi, the sect's founder. The complex consists of two buildings: Henjoden, a traditional temple hall, that was built in 1915 and is dedicated to Kobo Daishi, and a modern building for administration, lectures and training. Visitors can participate in a few activities at Daishi Kyokai, such as receiving Buddhist precepts (jukai) or copying Buddhist scriptures (shakyo). No advance reservations are required.
The Tokugawa Mausoleum (徳川家霊台, Tokugawa-ke Reidai) on Koyasan was built in 1643 by the third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu in order for his family to have a mausoleum close to Kobo Daishi's mausoleum. It consists of two buildings which enshrine Iemitsu's grandfather Ieyasu and father Hidetada, the first two Tokugawa shogun. The mausoleum's two identical buildings took twenty years to be completed and were built in the extravagant style of the early Edo Period with graceful sloping roofs, rich ornamentation, intricate carvings, lacquer and gold leaf. The two buildings stand side by side. The one on the right enshrines Ieyasu and the one on the left Hidetada.

Naka was an amazing tour guide! He was incredibly flexible and was very knowledgeable. He also ensured we had ample time to stop to rest, hydrate, find bathrooms, and get food (for which he recommended multiple options). He also went out of his way to help my father figure out an issue he was having with his Suica card, which significantly improved our entire overall trip!
Miyuki was an amazing guide. She was very attentive and shared all the historical details and information we needed to know. Thank you, Miyuki, for such a beautiful family day in Koyasan.

Excellent day trip from Osaka. Naka was a super guide; happy to share his really deep knowledge about Mt Koya, friendly, professional and made every effort to tailor the day to our needs. Highly recommend!
Our tour with Naka was flawless from the start when he met us at the hotel and guided us through the several modes of transport to reach Koyasan. The sheer beauty of the site was enhanced by Naka’s deep knowledge of its history and cultural significance. In addition to the highlights, Naka pointed out many small details that we would have completely missed had we done this on our own. This was a truly memorable experience.
We loved the experience. Our guide was very kind and explained everything very clearly. It’s a unique experience, and I highly recommend visiting it.
For those interested in the history of Buddhism in Japan this is a must do. Our guide Hiro is very knowledgeable and accommodating. If starting in Osaka you should be prepared to travel 2.5 hours each way and be fit enough to walk up stairs and hills. We highly recommend this tour.
My husband and I had a lovely day with Yuki exploring Koyasan. It rained the whole time which made the experience even more magical with the fog in the mountains. Yuki was excellent, sharing her knowledge on the area and it's important history. She took us for a delicious lunch at a local eatery and helped us navigate to Koyasan from Osaka city. Thanks for a great day Yuki!
This was a great tour. The train ride was very scenic. The train system is a little confusing, but our guide was very helpful navigating us. Mt Koto has lots to see and if you can do two days, if would be better.
Kazuko was very nice and knowlegable. We were very happy having her as our tour guide for Mt Koya. Such a beautiful place to visit.
Great experience. Our guide-Yuki was awesome. She helped us navigate through the trains. Her knowledge of Mount Koyasan was incredible. Going through the Okunoin cemetery, through Kongobu-ji temple, Konpon-Daito, Rokkaku Kyozo was amazing.
Yuki was an excellent guide. She was very professional, very knowledgeable, so kind and helpful. She used our time on the subway to familiarize us with Japanese history, culture, and traditions. Yuki navigated us perfectly through the intricate travel to Koyasan-such a beautiful, wonderful day, which included a fabulous vegetarian lunch!!
We had an absolutely fantastic experience touring Koyasan. Yuki clearly knows this region well and we feel as though we walked away with an immense amount of knowledge after our day with her. Yuki’s attention to detail was apparent even before our trip began, inquiring about food allergies, specific sightseeing requests and making plans to pick us up at our hotel (which we later learned was quite a distance from her home)! Our day of experience exceeded our expectations. Yuki was so thoughtful, personable and we left her at the end of the day feeling like we've known her for ages! She definitely gave us the VIP experience. Highly recommend!
My guide Yuki was excellent. So kind and helpful. She went above and beyond to help me have a great day including helping me to find a particular vegan restaurant when we got back to Namba. Koyasan was spectacular. I thoroughly recommend this trip.
Yuki was a pleasure! She was full of great historical information for all the places we visited. We enjoyed the day!
We had Nakagawa Hirofumi san guide our tour. He picked us up from our hotel and was very punctual. We then took a train to Koyasan. He had very detailed knowledge of the area’s history and of the places he took us. It is very well thought out and planned day. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you

Wonderful guide who was friendly and warn. She was an expert navigator through Osaka and out to koya san. Koya san itself was beautiful and well worth the trip. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Koya San and the history of it. Worth the trip!
My guided tour of Koyasan with Yuki was an unforgettable experience. Yuki's profound knowledge of the area's history and the spiritual significance of its temples and shrines enriched every moment. She was incredibly kind, personable, and attentive, ensuring my well-being and making the tour truly enjoyable. A fresh snowfall blanketed the landscape during our visit, adding a magical touch to this already sacred place. Maya is very attentive guide. She made our visit to Mt Koya very enjoyable. She explained a lot about history, culture and spirit of Japanese people. We had fun. Highly recommend this trip for someone who is likes walking and exploring
Our guide Emi was very prompt in picking us up at our hotel. She was very capable of navigating the train station and tickets etc. including the cable car up to Mt Koya. She knew so much about the area and the history. She was a wealth of knowledge when we went thru the very old cemetery. She was a delight. We had a wonderful lunch with her as well. She knew the bus stops to the cemetery and the temples we visited. We could not have enjoyed this as much if it were not for Emi. I would highly recommend her for any tour. She is delightful.
The whole trip was fantastic we were really pleased we travelled into the mountains to see the countryside and experience the serenity of the temples. The hall of lanterns was a highlight of our whole trip to Japan
My family and two family friends and I went to Mt Koya with our guide, Maya. Maya was very knowledgeable about the sites at Mt Koya and helped to explain the customs that we witnessed there. It was a magical and spiritual experience. I highly recommend this tour! Also, we booked a private taxi which saved a lot of time getting to Mt Koya and getting around the various sites. I highly recommend asking your guide for a private taxi.
Amazing tour with an excellent guide Miyuki. We experienced authentic cuisine for lunch and visited the most beautiful monuments in Mt. Koya. I definitely recommend this tour in you are visiting the Kyoto area.
Mt. Koya was a magical experience and one of the most impressive places in Japan. Our guide Yuka was very good as well, making the trip an unforgettable experience thanks to her explanations and passion for the place
Mr. Hideo Yoshida was amazing. He was very fast and took us from our hotel deep into the mountains to Koyasan. He had a good English and was eager to explain all the historical facts about the place. We like to walk and he was explaining what we saw even with pictures and explanations that he brought with him. Ask specifically for him to the agency.
Naka was my guide He was excellent Y have great day I absolutely recomend this tour you will learn a lot and visit the best spots in Koyasan. Thank you so much Naka
Our guide Mr. Hiro Nakagawa was exellent. Escorting us to Mount Koya: Danjo-Garan: Kompon Daito Pagoda and Kon-do Hall along with Kongobuji Temple and Okuno-in were magnificent. We learned about the way buddhism reached japan. Views and the maple tree red blossom were beautiful. 10/10!
Good experience with Eric Tanaka San, our guide. He prepared all the train ticket and tell us about Japan Shogun history.. is a fruitful walking tour. If you want to join this tour, please remember to bring water and pack your lunch or snacks, because the restaurant there is very packed and we dont have much time to queue.. Lucky that Tanaka San already mention this to us, so we are not starving.. 🤣 One of interesting part of this tour, that you need to ride a cable car to reach mount koya.. we want to thank Eric Tanaka San who make this trip enjoyable.
One of the most beautiful Temples I’ve seen in my life. Yuka our tour guide amazing. I only wish the tour on Mt Koya lasts a little longer because you spend more time arriving than in the actual place.
Our tour guide YUKA was amazing! Knowledge, kind, and a great guide! We rented a driver and a car which added to the whole experience seeing the sites
It was amazing with the help of Guide Mr Hiro. He was really superb. He came in time to pick and with us till the end. Very knowledgeble person with fluent English Language. We had a fantastic time and experience with him. This Viator tour was superb.
We had a beautiful day up at Mt Koya. We enjoyed the company of Mr Suga. He was very patient with us and went out of his way to make the trip memorable.
A very delightful and relaxing tour the tour guide mr Okazaki was on time we took a train from my hotel to the train station from where we can reach koya mountain. The fares for the train and the cable car are not included in the price of this tour so put in mind you have to pay for yourself and then tour guide. We visited three areas in koya mountain the famous grave yard with the kobo daishi grave then the main temple of shingon buddism and finally the museum. It was such an interesting and spiritualy uplifting tour if I was alone I wouldn’t have been able to go there myself because the train and subway system can be difficult for a first time tourist. The only reason I gave this tour 4 stars is because me Okazaki’s knowledge of the religious statues in the temples like the bosastsu the hotoke and the Miyuu is a little weak .overall this is one of my favorite tours I did in japan and me Okazuki is one of the nicest people I met
Excellent attention from Noriko, we spent an unforgettable excursion. Explanations very detailed and told with passion
It was a unique tour with Noriko. She picked me up from my hotel and we drove together towards Koyasan. Before that she helped me to buy the right ticket so that it could start right away. The ride goes through the tranquil villages of Japan until arriving in Koyasan after a bus and mountain railway. We started with the large forest cemetery which was incredibly quiet and peaceful. On the way in the train and on foot Noriko told me exciting stories about the individual points. After a small lunch we went on to amazing temples and in the afternoon back to Osaka, where we still ate something comfortably it was very appreciated. The tour was really great next time I will stay longer in Koyasan as there is still so much to watch:) thanks for the great insights into this magical place Noriko.
I visited Mount Koya with my amazing guide Momoyo from Osaka. The trip lasted more than eight hours. I had a really good time. Momoyo provided me with many very useful explanations and allowed me to better understand the history of Mount Koya.
