Bryan did a great job making the tour experience educational and comfortable. The food was superb and the time well spent. I am full and happy.
Phenomenal food and great, knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended!
Before the start of the tour: We had no problem finding the meeting point, but it was reassuring to have a phone number of someone to contact (including via Whatsapp) in case we couldn’t find it. The tour itself: We got to taste a nice variety of foods. Our stomachs were definitely full after the tour, and we had learned a lot, not only about the market and the food we tried, but also about life in Japan and Japanese customs. The guide: Bryan was nice and engaging. A big thanks for sharing your knowledge and, in particular, for writing down for us the names and a description of the foods we ate. This will be very useful for the rest of our trip.
We really enjoyed our tour with Bryan, he was really friendly and gave us good information about food. We had 10 samples in various shops of the market, come here on an empty stomach! Highly recommend
A lively, educational and enjoyable session with our guide Bryan. Interesting experience especially for those who are not familiar with Japanese food. Most raw items can be cooked (if requested) except for Tuna and Fugu sashimi.
The tour was great. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. A variety of good food tastings. We especially enjoyed the oysters and scallop.
Taka was a marvelous guide. An Osaka-native, he shared a lot of insight into the local cuisine and cooking techniques, and of course, knew all the best stalls to get our grub on! I chose this tour because I wanted to try fugu, but there’s absolutely no pressure to try it, if you’re scared or uninterested. I can guarantee that you won’t leave hungry either! Overall, it was a valuable experience and I can’t recommend it enough!
What an awesome foodie experience for true foodies. I was paired up with another solo traveler who was a chef based in Germany. Taka, our local guide, walked us through the busy seafood market stalls, negotiated with the fish mongers in the local lingo and boy did we eat a ton. Fugu, oysters, tuna, fish cakes, scallops, eel. According to Taka the cold winter is the best time of year for the freshest seafood. Arigatogozaimasu Taka!!!!!
Loved this seafood tour of the markets. The food was fabulous and guide Taca was very informative and friendly. You won’t need much for dinner and don’t bother with lunch. Highly recommend.
Taka was a friendly, informative guide. We tasted many different types of local seafood in a casual, relaxed setting during our 2 hour tour around the covered market.
A unique market experience in Osaka. A nice selection of seafood samples with interesting informative descriptions by Taka.
We had a fabulous tour of Kuromon fish market. Taka was a friendly and informative guide who gave us confidence to try lots of amazing new and delicious food. There was so much to see and taste and it was a truly enjoyable experience, can definitely recommend!
Food tour was great and the favorite tour of our stay in Japan. It definitely fulfilled the family's need for sushi, trying everything from fish cakes to sea urchin and pufferfish. Our guide was very friendly and patient with our 2 year old, who tried everything as well, and was amazing with pointing out all the unique things in the market to see if we wanted to try it. This will be a highlight of our Japan trip!
Very informative tour with tasty food. You can try authentic Japanese food. I highly recommend this tour. Five stars!!
Adam was an amazing tour guide. Relatable, friendly, and knowledgeable! Definitely would recommend this trip and Adam as a tour guide!
This tour is great value for money. Anna was my guide and if I could give 6 starts for her expertise and service I would! The team at Osaka Food Tours are amazing, from their communication in the lead up to it, and on the day (I got lost and they called, found, and collected me so I didn’t miss out - legends), to the quality and variety of the food, the knowledge about Osakan culture and Kuromon’s history, and the candour my guide Anna had with the market owners. It was genuinely heart warming and made the experience feel more like a mate taking another mate out to introduce them to a new city. LOVED IT! Thanks Andy and Anna x
We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Hikaru, was personable, knowledgeable and especially accommodating to our dietary restrictions. The stalls we visited were a good representation of the food of Osaka. My only complaint was that I would have liked a stop for something to drink (tea, coffee, beer).
Hakuru was amazing! Our whole group rated this tour as their experience for the trip. We tried soooooo many different Japanese foods, and Hakaru did a great job of explaining the food and history of the market. 10/10 would recommend.
Hikaru was excellent! His background as a chef, coupled with his engaging personality, meant the whole group (including some teenagers) had a great time and learned a lot. We do food tours in most places we go, and this was a really good one!
Having a knowledgeable guide to show us around the Kuromon Market was a great experience. Our guide knew the answers to all of our questions, and showed us all of the best places to find the food we were looking for. And everything we tried was delicious! I was grateful for the opportunity to try lots of different foods that I might not have gotten to try otherwise. For me, the highlight was the tuna.
The description undersells just how good this tour is. Anna is full of energy, humour and knowledge about food. She knows the market and sellers like close family. There were so many amazing things to try. You won’t leave this tour hungry. Best market tour Ive ever done.
Fun tour, great guide. Very knowledgeable about Japanese customs, culture and language from a visitors point of view. Took us to spots we would have never found or tried on our own.
This was a tour no foodie should miss while they are in Osaka. Our guide, Anna, was wonderful - she happily answered everyone's questions or sourced the answers she did not know off the top of her head from the vendors themselves. She was upbeat and kind, and took special care to pick out staple foods for us to try that we might not try on our own (which is the best part of food tours!). We learned a bit about the history of the food we tried, how to identify proper Kobe beef vendors, and different cuts for tuna nigiri. She even took us to a stall that supplies the seafood for Michelin star restaurants! Overall, an awesome experience to have while visiting "Japan's Kitchen."
Fantastic tour! Hikaru was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and patient. He even added on a couple of additional food samples based on our interests. The market was amazing but having a guide like Hikaru to help you know what is authentic versus touristy was all the difference. Highly recommend!!
Great food tour! Really lovely variety of different seafood in the market and the perfect amount of food. Our guide Hikaru was so friendly and answered any questions we had. He was very adaptable and made sure any requests were met. Would definitely recommend!
Really interestig tour around the Kurumon market. Hikaru clearly knew his stuff and had a real passion for Japanese food and culture. The food was all delicious!
Bring your foodie sense of adventure. Mike gave us a fantastic tour of Kuromon. Lots of tips and insights into the market, Japanese food and Osaka/Japan in general. The tour provides the opportunity to taste a variety of foods - all were delicious. Great value for money. Loved the opportunity to try foods that I probably wouldn't have ordered. Would absolutely recommend if you want an introduction to traditional Osaka & Japanese food.
Mike conducted us on a very enjoyable afternoon tour of the Kuromon Market. His commentary and insights were interesting and informative. We really appreciated the opportunities provided for tasting much of the wonderful cuisine available at various market stalls. Thanks Mike for the great experience and we would highly recommend this tour to others.
The tour company somehow attracted a brilliant group of folks. The same had happened on a previous, night backstreet tour, which I would also recommend. The tour guide Adam was great fun and well spoken in English and Japanese. He gets you trying foods that you otherwise might not! It’s not too long distance wise and flat n easy on the feet. You can fit this tour in, with other things on a busy day in Osaka The food was fresh and fabulous. Just as we had hoped. I would really recommend this tour over others and congratulate management for an excellent product.
My family and I had a wonderful time on the Kuromon Market tour with Anna. The food was fabulous and the seafood was so fresh! We were very impressed with the high quality of food we sampled and we were very full by the end. Even our picky teenage son enjoyed the food. Anna had a great personality which took the tour up another notch! She was a wealth of knowledge and provided many insights we were unaware of before the tour. Overall, the experience was excellent and we 100% recommend this tour.
"Anna's guided food tour at Kuromon Ichiba was an absolute delight! Her charm, deep knowledge, and genuine passion for Osaka cuisine shone through at every moment. We explored the market, where each food stand we visited was a treasure trove of flavors and history, lovingly run by local families. The portions were generous, and every bite was a taste sensation, showcasing the best of Osaka's culinary traditions. Anna's insights and anecdotes added an extra layer of richness to the experience, making it not just a meal, but a journey through the vibrant flavors of Kuromon Ichiba. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to discover the heart of Osaka's market cuisine!"
Matthew did a great job taking us through the market to try a variety of sweet and savory bites. He was open to our pace and kept checking in on how full we were. I'd recommend this tour!
Amazing experience. The best part was our tour guide Anna who didn’t only provide us a tour of the market and the foods but also gave us insight into the local culture - where to go out to experience live music, how to say common phrases in the local dialect, and she had strong connections with the families running the food stalls. Anna made the experience feel immersive, enjoyable, and not overly touristy. We got more out of this tour than we expected. 10/10 thanks to Anna!
Our guide Anna was knowledgeable, kind, funny and a pleasure to explore with. She showed us the real market under the tourism layer and I’d follow her anywhere!
Anna was an amazing tour guide. She was clearly very knowledgeable about Japanese food and clearly had wonderful relationships with the various food vendors. She provided many opportunities for us to sample various types of food as well as explaining the historical and cultural significance of the foods. Anna was a gem -would highly recommend this tour!
Anna was an amazing tour guide ~ funny, informative, and spoke great English! We tried many different foods from the market, and they were all delicious!! We had a great experience and highly recommend this tour!
The tour was fabulous, a real foodie heaven. We got a great insight into the many tasty offerings at the market and will now be able to return there with confidence. We tasted amazing tuna, fish cakes, eel, pickles, rice and so much more. We felt it was great value and our guide Higuri (?) was very entertaining and informative.
Michael was a great guide who helped us not only try some great seafood, but also meet the vendors. We learned about what we were trying and how it is brought to be. My most memorable food rhat I sampled was the Otoro Tuna which is so buttery smooth. Simply the best.
Had a fun afternoon in Osaka at the Kuromon Markets Tour! Good value for money, small group, knowledgeable guide who took us to some amazing stalls, and clear communication about meeting point etc. the day before. Would definitely recommend for foodies who want to try something new!
We had a great tour with Michael with lots of delicious food. Our tour was on a holiday during golden week, which meant there were a few shops that were either closed or closed early. Luckily, Michael pushed us along quickly to get us where we needed to go. Michael did a great job of showing us around, explaining the complexity of the Japanese language, and sharing some of the interesting folklore of the market. My only minor complaint is that Michael talked a bit fast, which made it hard to retain a lot of the information he shared. Still, it was a great tour!
Incredible! Taka was such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. I was amazed at how many places we visited within the market, trying a huge range of delicious seafood and other treats. Taka was accomodating for allergies and gave us advice for how to manage this in Japan. We arrived hungry but left absolutely stuffed. Couldn't recommend more! Okini, Taka!
The tour was amazing and our guide, Anne, a real foodie. She shared a lot of details about japanese food and get us to try top dishes.
Having a food toor with a local chef is a treat, highly recommend for the beginning of your journey so you know where to dine
Excellent tour, lots of interesting background information, very knowledgable guide who introduced many interesting and yummy foods. Tour ends near Doguyasuji where you can shop for beautiful knives and kitchen tools.
I highly recommend this market tour. We did around 4 similar tours while in Japan (including the Tsukiji in Tokyo), and this by far was the best experience, most informative, and overall best deal. Anna was an excellent guide and provided loads of information and delicious bites of food for us to try. I really appreciated that she discussed the significance of each of the different dishes and gave us pointers on how to identify high quality and authentic products on our own. I also loved that she had relationships with all of the vendors we were visiting and the tour focused on the mom-and-pop stalls within the market. There was more than enough food for the people on our tour and we left completely full, so I would recommend eating sparingly (if at all) prior.
Lots of variety of seafood. Tasty food Great tour guide very friendly Great information provided about food and history
Thank you Anna for a fantastic tour of Kurumon market. We had a wonderful time trying things we would never have tried by ourselves. We are a family of 4 with one fussy eater and Anna did her best to find something for them to eat. She helped us with specific requests including Kobe beef, and with restaurant recommendations too. It was lovely to see her interact with the multi generational family stall holders and we were happy to be able to thank them and to tell them it was delicious in our faltering Japanese. What happy and wonderful people we have found 😊
My wife and I took the Kuromon Market tour right after the end of the New Year holiday week. This was a great time because the market was busy but not packed like sardines. Our tour guide Adam made sure we were comfortable and ready to walk when we met him at the nearby subway station exit. Adam took great care of us, making sure to check for allergies, dietary restrictions, and ethical concerns. My wife and I are adventurous eaters, but were a bit intimidated by not understanding Japanese or the local customs. While he helped us navigate the market, Adam offered some history of the market as well as tips on good foods and market etiquette. We got to sample fresh tuna and fugu, grilled eel and scallops, pickles, fish cakes, and more! The hour-and-a-half long tour ended with a sake tasting while Adam told us more about life in Osaka and some good options for day trips and meals. It was a wonderful time and I wholeheartedly recommend the experience!
Great tour, lots of samples and food to eat, all very tasty! The highlight had to be the fugu - which was carefully prepared, of course. Our guide knew all the top spots, I’d highly recommend!
